Thank you to NetGalley and the author/publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I’m so excited to be reading this book as an arc I love this series so much! This book follows Demi god Rosie who we were introduced to in the last book. We have plenty of star studded appearances from past characters we love really making this series come full circle. The plot for this installment was 5/5 but I fear the romance brought it down a bit.

While this series absolutely needs to be read in order, I did not feel I was lost without rereading the books again. There were plenty of moments artfully inserted to give you a glimpse of ‘previously in Tanria’

The pros are that this plot was actually my favorite out of the three books. Rosie and the gang get stuck in Tanria when the portals malfunction and there’s a lot of emotion involved as each character comes to term with it.

The cons are unfortunately the romance. The FMC Rosie is my least favorite. I think she would have shined as a side character like in book 2. Maybe it was the underwear obsession haha. Adam was kind of 1 dimensional. He isn’t fleshed out as a love interest besides the fact that Rosie is attracted to him. They delve into his back story a bit later but he still is never given much personality. If you don’t care for the Insta-Lust trope this one may not be for you. Whoever said this book should’ve been about Duckers and Zeddie nailed it.

Sad to see this series end, would still absolutely recommend all the books series and hope to read more from this author in the future.

I have loved the past two books in this series, but with all the love this one is my favorite.

Rosie and Adam are both individually my favorite people now, but as a couple they were just so fun and enjoyable to read while also being full of depth and profound moments that I just wanted to keep them in my pocket forever. I also so appreciated getting to see everyone come back (there is a 10 yr gap from the 2nd book) but especially Ducky and Zeddie whom at this point feel like my little siblings from seeing them in each book and how they've grown and change.

I have read a lot of books by now and so I often know a general book plot and trajectory (and enjoy it just the same), but I swear with every book Megan Bannen proves that I still don't know and the places that her books and plots end up is such a delightful surprise to have absolutely no idea where it's going or where it could possibly be going. For this book at no point did I know where it was going to go and it was utterly delightful beginning to end (well until I realized this is supposed to be the last book THEN I was very bummed - still am). As always the writing is beautiful with a complex but easy to follow world building unlike any I've ever seen before and witty dialog left and right. It blends the humor and joy with deeper themes and poignant moments that really give the best of everything.

This book was just so fun to read and contains everything that I crave in cozy fantasy but done so much better than anything I could have expected. Please let there be so many more cozy fantasy books from Megan Bannen in my future - please. I can only reread this book so many times!

Every time I think that I've found my favorite Megan Bannen story, she drops another one and I'm absolutely sucker punched into somehow loving it even more than the last.

I thoroughly enjoyed the progression of Rosie and Adam's characters throughout this story, as well as the adjacent growth and understanding of fan favorites Duckers and Zeddie.

Though I lament that this series is over, I think Bannen brought it to a beautiful and well-rounded close, one that was emotional and satisfying across the board.

I'm not crying, you're crying. Seriously, I was not expecting this series to end with the third book and after finishing it, I'm not ready to say goodbye to this loveable cast of characters.

Set in the quirky and fantastical world of Bushong and Tanria, the final installment's romance is a close proximity romance featuring resident Tanrian Marshal and demigod, Rosie Fox and the inventor of the Tanrian portals, Adam Lee. The latest adventures take place approximately ten years following the events of the Undertaking of Hart and Mercy and delves more into the traditions, religion and lore of the Old Gods, the New Gods, and everything magical in between. When the portals between Tanria and Bushong start breaking down, Rose and Adam find themselves in a thorny situation stuck in the abandoned prison of the Old Gods.

All of our favorites are back with scenes featuring Hart, Mercy, Twyla, Frank, Zeddy, Duckers., and of course the best glitter spitting dragon Mary Georgina. Bannen excels at the cozy romance in that you simply want to give everyone a giant hug and sit and laugh around a table with them listening to their stories and gossip. The dialogue is witty, the romances are heartwarming and mildly spicy, and the characters are so realistic they jump off the page and into your heart.

Although technically this could be read as a standalone, I would not recommend it as the worldbuilding is fairly well established by book three and the author does not waste much time describing the events of the previous novels. Anyone wanting to read these, should just simply buy all three and start with Hart and Mercy because trust me...you will devour all of them in record time.

Perfect for middle-aged fans of cozy romantasy who like to see older women featured as a love interest.

Even though I am far from ready to say goodbye, this was the perfect ending to a perfect series.

In this Tanrian adventure we follow an immortal Demi-god Marshall Rosie whose motto is act first, think later. When the portals to get into Tanria break down Rosie must team up with Adam, the closed off inventor of said portals to fix them and save Tanria.

I absolutely love this whimsical fun world Megan Bannen has created and I am so sad this is the final book in the series. I was so excited that we got to have glimpses of many of the previous books characters. I adored the friendship between Duckers and Rosie and how they interacted. I also really enjoyed the lore that we got in this one and the old gods, even the Trickster.

The first half was a bit slow but I was having so much fun with the banter and being back in this world I didn’t mind much. While I liked the grumpy-sunshine aspect, the romance felt rushed at the end and I just didn’t feel like Rosie and Adam had much chemistry. I was much more interested in what would happen between Duckers and Zeddie to be honest.

Overall I really loved this book, it was hilarious, heartwarming, and even had me tearing up a little at the end. I had a fantastic time reading it and would do so again.

Megan Bannen did it again with the third and upcoming book of the Tanria series! It’s another 5-star read for me.

In this book, we follow the story of Rosie who is an immortal demigod who is patrolling Tanria for a very long time. After a hundred and fifty-seven years of existing, life began to lose its luster. She felt trapped in her infinity.

Until Dr. Adam Lee, the portal’s inventor got trapped inside the Mist with her. But Rosie is noticed that Dr. Adam wasn’t telling her everything so she is determined to crack his cold exterior up.

It is such a satisfying conclusion to the series! I am totally in love with all the elements of this book and how humorous it is.
I highly recommend this for all fans of the series and if Megan Bannen.

Thank you so much Net galley and the publisher for this advanced copy. All opinions are entirely my own.

Rosie is a demigod, same as Hart Ralston from the first book in the Tanria series. She is partnered with Penrose Duckers (formerly Hart Ralston’s partner) and together they are part of the Park Security team patrolling Tanria, a magical area entered via portals. If you have not read the other books in the series The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy and The Undermining of Twyla and Frank, I would recommend reading them first.

The story begins with Rosie, Penrose, and an engineering investigating a portal through the mist into Tanria that is on the fritz. Rosie seems something within the technical workings of the portal that Penrose and the engineer can’t see, but while attempting to point it out to electrocutes herself! Don’t worry, she is a demigod, so she isn’t dead for long. The higher ups are not happy with the incident. They are calling in the original designer of the portals, Dr. Adam Lee, and Rosie and Penrose are assigned to escorting him around while he fixes the portals.

It becomes evident that something is awry with all the portals and an evacuation of Tanria is called for, and everyone gets out except of course Rosie, Adam, and two others (I’ll keep it a surprise who others are).

While trapped in Tanria, something blossoms between Rosie and Adam. After many things happen (spoilers so I won’t tell) they do get their happy ever after.

I enjoyed this book, though I think the first in the series is still my favorite. I feel like the relationship between Rosie and Adam developed too quickly. I still enjoyed their story very much. There was funny banter between the two. It was also nice to get tidbits of information on the lives of the characters from the first two books while still focusing on Rosie and Adam. Overall, I think it is great story that is well worth the read!

One of the things I loved about the first book in this series, is that it is a quirky little romance that is also about death. This third book, Rosie's story, is a quirky little romance that is also about what it means to not be able to die.

If you're a fan of the first two books, you will also love this conclusion to the story. It will make you laugh. It will make you cry. It will make you glad you got to be a part of this cast of characters' world for awhile.

A whimsical and hilarious fantasy!
This was another great addition to the Hart and Mercy universe. It was full of found family, redemption, forgiveness, love and learning.
The various side characters and their own stories wrapped up nicely within the story as a whole and nothing fell out of place or loose.
It was such a fun read!

Holy Moly! It’s the end of a fantastic series, and I will miss this one so much.

Tanria was definitely one of my absolute favorite worlds, and I was so happy to get to explore it much more with these two loveable characters! Rosie felt so relatable, with her constant energy, almost existential dread of her loved ones, and having a need for purpose & maybe…..very nice things. ✨ Adam was certainly one of the most surprising characters I’ve read in a while, especially the reveal of his purpose in the plot. He was a stern, monotone character at first & he progressed incredibly well in my opinion. Love does that, doesn’t it?

This book had me laughing, crying, and smiling the entire ride, especially with its almost hilariously perverted tone.

All in all you’re given a tremendously fun time with lessons of grief, family being blood & who you choose in your life, and taking life for granted. I loved it, and will definitely recommend it!

Thanks Orbit & Netgalley for letting me have this arc in exchange for my senseless blabbing.

This series is one of my absolute all-time favorites. It is whimsical and good-hearted and just so much fun to read. I was beyond excited to have the opportunity to read the third installment and experience Rosie and Adam’s story. This felt lower stakes and a bit slower than the previous books but included so much of what I love — it’s both serious and lighthearted at the same time as Rosie tries to come to terms with her immortality. This book was moving and sweet and fun, and it ended the series on such a peaceful and complete note.

In this final installment for the series, I found myself wishing it didn't have to end because Rosie is by far my favorite character in any fantasy series. This was a very well written series with a fantastic conclusion!

This is a phenomenal third installment in the series. I’ve adored each of the previous books, The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy and The Undermining of Twyla and Frank, and this one is just the icing on the cake. I would not suggest reading the story out of order.

In this novel, the immortal demigod FMC Rosie Fox serves as a Marshal in Tanria. Alongside her partner, Penrose Duckers, whom we’ve come to know and love from earlier books, she is tasked with escorting the straight-laced MMC Dr. Adam Lee as he attempts to repair the portals between worlds.

The humor is spot-on, the characters are incredibly endearing, and the flirtatious exchanges between Rosie and Adam are truly swoon-worthy. While the story delves into heartfelt moments and addresses serious themes, it maintains an overall cozy and fun fantasy vibe.

Each book in the series explores different romantic tropes, making it hard to pick a favorite. However, this installment stands out as a fantastic addition. I will definitely revisit and reread the series, and I’m excited to see what Megan Bannen has in store for us next.

Spice: 3.5/5
Plot: 5/5
Writing: 5/5
My Enjoyment: 5+/5

Oh how I have adored this series with its banana plants plots, dragons, gods, epistolary elements, humor, and the most memorable cast of characters. I tend to put off the final book in a series because I loathe goodbyes, but want a wonderful, satisfying, and heartwarming final installment this was.

I love Rosie Fox and Penrose Duckers with my entire being. I have been rooting for Duckers from the very beginning and love how he has charmed the pants off of us readers in each book. His partnership and camaraderie with Rosie warmed my heart and I giggled endlessly over their teasing. Rosie with her long legs, red hair, and wicked grin is the woman of my dreams. She has such an enormous heart brimming with love and loyalty for her people, and I love how she finally got her HEA.

Adam with his stoic, buttoned up exterior was the perfect complement to Rosie’s “yolo” (just kidding she’s immortal but you get it) filter free, grab live by the dragon horns way of living. It was cute seeing these two interact and try to hide their very obvious feelings from everyone. I do so desperately wish we had gotten Adam’s POV. I would love to have had a peek into his brain and feelings for Rosie earlier on.

I absolutely loved this book! It was well written, flowed with the past two books in the series, and I just love all these characters! I read it in a day, so clearly, it was engrossing. I'm sad the series ended but it ended so well. I loved how well paced it was, how it drew emotional reactions out of me. It was so good. I loved it.

This book did not fail to make my smile and laugh. Like all the books in this series the dialogue and enjoyable characters made time breeze by. One of the best parts of this series is unraveling of the amazing world they take place in. I loved all the books in the series and I cannot wait for more from this author

I have had the absolute best time reading this series, and this story was the perfect way to end it. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam follows not only Rosie Fox, but Penrose Duckers as well. Throughout the other books, Penny-D is a favorite and I loved getting more of him!

In this book, we get introduced to Dr. Adam Lee (aka Dr Sassafras), who has so much depth to his character and I loved everything he brought to the story. I really enjoyed how more of the history and mythology of the world is explored. Because with that, we also get more insight into the characters.

Rosie was hilarious, and I had so much fun with her point of view. Her friendship with Penrose Duckers is so wholesome, and I treasured their interactions.

Overall, this was such a fun time and I wish I could live in this world purely for the wacky chaos of it. Read if you love: paranormal, cozy, nonsensical fantasy, and want to have a good time while you’re at it!

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam releases July 8, 2025.

Thank you Orbit Books (via Netgalley) for gifting me with an eARC, all thoughts expressed are my own.

A great conclusion to a fun and heartwarming series! I would rate the first book 3.75, second book 4.25 and this one 3.75 as well.

In this final installment of the series, we get Rosie, who we have met before, a demi-god who is partnered with Duckers, and new-to-us Adam, a mysterious scientist. I admit I was more excited to see our past characters, Hart & Mercy, Twyla & Frank, Duckers & Z, etc., more than I was intrigued by Adam. Adam seems to be cut from a similar cloth as many mysterious protagonists - a man of few words and even fewer expressions. I've read a lot of these men, and I found myself not particularly interested in unraveling his past. Nevertheless, the central storyline was still gripping, and I love the world of Tanria.

The relationship between Rosie and Adam also didn't blossom as authentically for me as Hart & Mercy's through their letters, or Twyla & Frank's through their many years of friendship. They had no real meaningful past and Rosie seemed to instantly be attracted to Adam. Though at least her self-awareness was refreshing. Bannen is excellent at creating character voices, as each one of her protagonists felt different, unique, but still relatable.

If you loved the past two books, you won't be disappointed by this finale, as it brings together many of the beloved cast and finishes strong. There is more lore revealed in this novel, but I like that it still leaves Tanria with plenty of mystery and questions- all left to the reader's imagination. I am sad that it's over! Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy!

3.5/5

This was such a unique book with such a unique premise (and it turned out super cute and fun)!

This book follows Rosie (a demi-god) and Adam (a portal inventor) have to work together to fix a portal, but they up trapped together when things go south.

And we have a grumpy/sunshine situation on our hands with Rosie trying to break through Adam's tough exterior. And, of course, it eventually works. But this is definitely a very slow-burn grumpy/sunshine, it takes Adam most of the book to open up. And because of this, I didn't feel like they had a whole lot of chemistry. It was still cute though!

And this is single POV for those wondering.

There would've been some more oomph to this for sure, but overall, I still had a fun time reading it and being in this fantasy world that doesn't feel too fantastical but it still super whimsical and fun.

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be up at the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.

If Megan Bannen has no stans, I am dead.

Adored diving back into Tanria with this book. We get to check in with Hart & Mercy, Frank & Twyla, and the rest of the gang in Eternity, and hang out with the dragons in Tanria. Duckers is such a wonderful continuation throughout the three books - I loved that he got his subplot in this one. This book and these characters bring a whole new lore and mythology to the universe, while still existing in the same world. Lovers of the first two books will not be disappointed!

Rosie & Adam both feel alone in the world, and without spoilers - find out maybe they are ~not~. Unlike the first two books, almost all of this one takes place in Tanria with its mystic plants and dragons, and - with a red-eyed, immortal FMC - it feels fully fantastical and romantical (not a word but I like it) from page 1.

The only thing I bumped on was the number of mentions about their sizes. I LOVE the flipping of our typical fantasy "giant immortal man loves tiny teenage girl," and that not only is Rosie big, but Adam is small - I just would have been okay with fewer mentions of both of their sizes throughout once established.

This book is for people who love mythology, fantasy, dragons, found family, and strong FMCs.

Favorite spoiler-free quotes:
- "All she could do was be, and that was her least favorite thing to do."
- "Fuck it. I'll do it for science."
- "Dry as a desert wind and every bit as hot"
