I am kinda speechless which is a problem because I’m supposed to be writing a review for this ALC. But what it comes down to is that I love the Tanrian Marshals series so much and I’m so sad it is over but what a way to close it out! This was such an incredibly satisfying series with characters I adored, amazing banter, beautiful depictions of love, and adventures that had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t have imagined a better ending for these characters I have grown to love so much.
Rosie and Adam were absolute perfection. I loved Rosie’s humor and nonchalant attitude about her mortality. I loved that even though she knew she was going to outlive her friends, it didn’t stop her from loving them. Her friendship with Penrose (Penny-D is seriously the cutest nickname ever) made me giddy. They were each other’s ride or d!e bestie.
I loved watching the tightly contained Adam slowly but surely come unglued when it came to Rosie. His history was so fascinating and made him a perfect match for Rosie. Both were so focused on helping others that it wasn’t until they were forced together for this mission that they were able to face their feelings and think about what made them happy. Both of them having an appreciation for the finer underthings in life was such a cute commonality.
I’m not going to lie, when I realized that this was the last book in the series and it wasn’t named after Penrose, I was a little worried because I have been waiting for his and Zeddy’s book since meeting them in Hart and Mercy. But this book was like two in one because Rosie wasn’t the only one to get her HEA.
I really enjoyed the audiobook. Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life.
I’m going to go stare into space for a while as I think about how much I have loved this series. I seriously can’t recommend it enough. I think it is time for a reread because I am not ready to leave Tanria yet.

This was a fun end to the Tanrian series! The trilogy was a bit of a roller coaster, with Hart and Mercy soaring above all the others, Twyla and Frank dropping in quality, and then Rosie and Adam ending solidly if predictably.
It’s rare that we get to see an immortal woman in love with a mortal man, and this book spinning the trope on its head was fun. Rosie is brash, chaotic, and bold, and her motto of “act first, think never” tells you right away exactly the kind of chaos you’re going to get throughout the book.
It takes a while to meet our romantic interest, Adam, which was an interesting choice. This sets the book up to be not a romance, but a story about Rosie grappling with her endless life. She is finally beginning to understand that immortal means forever, and she is increasingly discomfited by her eternal life.
Adam was an interesting character for her to unravel: stoic, guarded, analytical, cautious…and not to mention short. I loved that he said he was 5’5”, and when Zeddie choked, he was like, “…in shoes.”
The premise of the story felt like a mix of the familiar old west setting of Tanria, mixed with a lot of Adam and Eve/Garden of Eden imagery. And then, toward the end, when they are grappling with their long lives, it felt a lot like the end of the show “The Good Place,” with two partners who know the end is coming, but they can take their time to get there before they choose to meet it.
I can’t say I loved this book. I really wanted to. Hart and Mercy gripped my whole soul when I read it, and I really hoped this one would recapture that magic. Instead, I will just say that this was a solid female-led fantasy with a featured romance. I loved returning to this world, I loved the dragon cameos, and getting to spend more time was Duckers and Zeddie was an unexpected delight. (I do wish Duckers and Zeddie had gotten their own book instead of just playing the background romance across three books. I absolutely would read a separate book about them if you ever want to write it, Megan.)
The frequent modern colloquialisms felt especially out of place in this book. It’s been a while since I read Hart and Mercy, but I don’t remember such modern, casual speech there. It still felt old-timey. Whereas here, Rosie, Duckers, and Zeddie all use some very modern phrases that felt heavily Gen Z and Gen Alpha influenced. It fought against the world building.
Maybe my favorite relationship to watch was surprising: Rosie and Hart connecting over their immortality. While Adam was a lovely partner to Rosie, Hart’s gruff but kind presence in Rosie’s life, compounded with his understanding of what it’s like to believe you’re immortal was really special to see.
Honestly, at the end of the day, Adam and Rosie’s romance was instalove. Which also feels odd in a story about an immortal. SPOILERS AHEAD! She’s so quick to say she loves him. They actually know each other for maybe a week when she realizes. I mean, I’ve been there. In an intense situation, love can form quickly. But the more I thought about it the more I questioned it. In many ways they are drawn to each other out of necessity, and the dire situation feels reminiscent of the desert island plot line: “we’re stranded here for who knows how long. Maybe we should just repopulate the earth.” I mean, that’s NOT the vibe, but it’s not an extreme stretch to get there…
I have complicated thoughts about this book. But I did read it incredibly quickly because I didn’t want to put it down. So as usual, Megan has written something fun and addictive. If you don’t look too closely at it, you’ll have a great time with it.
Thank you to the publish and NetGalley for granting me an advanced reader copy of this book. I’m sure many will have a lot of fun reading it.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam offers a whimsical return to the magical world of Tanria with charming banter and a classic opposites-attract setup, but it doesn’t quite recapture the magic of its predecessor. Rosie’s weary immortality and Adam’s tightly-wound pragmatism make for an intriguing dynamic, and their slow-burn romance has some genuinely heartfelt moments. However, the pacing drags in places, and the emotional depth sometimes gets lost in the overly quirky tone. While fans of The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy may enjoy the familiar blend of fantasy and rom-com, this installment feels more like a pleasant detour than a standout journey.

That's it. I am packing my bags and moving to Tanria.
But seriously, this series has been an absolute joy to read and I am so sad to see it it. But, Megan Bannen sent us off with a warm-bear hug from Rosie Fox and a sweet word from Dr. Adam Lee. The world of Hart & Mercy is perfect for fans of romantasy looking for a quirky twist!
The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam has:
x Tall Girl Rep
x Top-tier banter
x An endearing cast of characters
x Stoic falls for Sassy
x Finale of a Trilogy
Thank you so much to Orbit and NetGalley for an ARC of The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam. Pub Date; July 8, 2025

Thank you NetGalley and Orbit Books for the opportunity to read this book! This was one of the greatest love stories I have ever read. I cannot thank Megan Bannen enough for writing this book. The way that Penny-D and RoFo banter and love one another as friends no matter what is something that is very underrepresented in media. I have loved ones in my life like this and I cannot wait for them to be able to hold this book in their hands, and for others like us to rejoice. And that isn't even touching on Adam and Rosie. Theirs' is a love story that needs to be told. I do not want to put any spoilers in here but the way they are present for one another is astounding. This is love in such a good hurt kind of way. Also the Trickster. I have no words for the things that happen, and as someone who has an amazing dad in my life I was left with no words. Thank you for this. May it heal those children who need it.

Almost as good as the first book, and better than the second! Part adventure story, part slow-burn romance. Loveable main characters and well-developed side characters who bring dimension to the relationship and plot. The FMC and MMC are good foils for each other, which also helps with their individual development.
The plot was fun, with just the right amount of “oh no!” to keep things interesting.

This one was an emotional roller-coaster. 🥹 I cried within the first 20% and then for most of the last 20%. 🤷🏼♀️ Megan Bannen somehow managed to capture the magic from book 1 (The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy), formulated another unique story (but with many characters we all know and love!), and deliver new personalities that are lovable, and dare I say, all too human? Thus comes the end to our time in Tanria, and it feels like Bannen gave them (and us) a beautiful send-off. 😍
4.5⭐

Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio, Orbit Books, & Megan Bannen for this chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is the third book in the Tanrian Series and I do not believe you should read it as a standalone. As a favor to your brain and heart- I truly believe a person should read the whole series. There is so much you won't appreciate without the lore of the first two books.
Each love story in this series has been so different from each other. It's taken us on such a ride through perspectives and priorities but still the spirit of this dystopian land has been the same. Everything is so witty, snarky, and perfect.
Rosie and Adam's story was everything I didn't know I needed. And getting MORE Zeddy and Ducker's?!? They have been the gift that keeps giving since book 1. I related to (and found comfort in) the examination of grief and the passage of time.
Narration was VERY well done. I especially liked the second narrator when they came in- they were used so wisely to put us in the second story!

I absolutely loved The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy, so I was really excited to return to this world, even though I hadn’t read the second book in the series. Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite land for me the way I hoped it would.
While I appreciated the unconventional nature of the main character and the fact that it was a reverse trope, the romance didn’t quite click. The chemistry between the leads just wasn’t there for me from the beginning, which made it harder to get emotionally invested in their relationship.
Some sections also felt like they dragged, especially the scenes focused on repairing the portals. That part seemed to stretch on longer than necessary, and it took me out of the story a bit as I found myself waiting for it to move forward.
That said, I still enjoyed being back in this world, and I admire the creativity that the author brings to her writing. While this one wasn’t a perfect fit for me, I know others will enjoy the quirky charm and magical setting she’s known for.
Thanks so much to Orbit books and the author for the ARC through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Our final journey into the world of Tanria could not be more perfect. Marshal Rosie Fox, daughter of a god, cannot die and distinctly feels time stretching on before her. When the portals that allow the outside world to enter and exit Tanria go on the fritz Dr Adam Lee, their inventor, is called into fix them. It should be an easy fix but a shadowy plant seems to be getting in the way and soon Rosie, Adam, Penrose Duckers, and Zeddie Birdsall find themself stuck in Tanria with not much hope to get out. Will Adam be able to get them home?
Oh my god the way I love this series and this book. I cannot even begin to describe it. Rosie is the foul mouthed, no nonsense heroine of my dream. Adam is a short king with tons of history. Together they are everything. This book felt like such a satisfying way to wrap up this series. I’ll miss this world and the characters so much but feel so glad that Megan Bannen gifted them to us.

4.25 Stars!
This was such a fantastic conclusion to a wild series I have absolutely loved.
Rosie Fox. The Demigod. The Myth. The Legend. I have been waiting to get her story since the first rumblings of her existence in Undertaking. She is just so much fun! I absolutely loved her dynamic with Duckers (YES!! WE GOT MORE DUCKERS!). I loved who she was and her confidence, but also the quieter moments where she wasn’t as sure.
Adam was so complex. He was truly such a vast person squished into a tiny body. He balanced Rosie so incredibly well. The way they fit together made me giddy.
I LOVED getting to be back with everyone we have already come to love in this series. Hart and Mercy. Twyla and Frank. MacGuire. The families. Everyone! It is also just a world that is fun to exist in. I loved getting the chance to explore more of the lore and the history of it all.
Penrose Duckers is everything. I will do anything for him. The way he has bounced around and popped up in all these books has been a delight. He has been on his own journey in these 3 books and I have loved watching it through the eyes of the people who love him.
I did feel like I went on a bit of an existential journey with Rosie. In true Bannen fashion, she balanced her silly goofy world with deep, thought-provoking themes. What is it like to be immortal? What is it like knowing you can’t die? Or when you do, you will always come back. How does that shape you as a person and how does that affect how you live your life? So many questions. So many things explored.
I was not ready for this journey to end. I was more nervous about it than I thought I would be. This has been such an incredible ride with characters and stories I will remember forever.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

I'm so sad this will be the last time I transport through the portal to Tanria...
Thank you @meganbannen and @orbitbooks_us for the #gifted copy to travel all over the US to visit some grateful bookworms. [PUB DATE: July 8, 2025]
I have the hardest time finishing series because the characters end up feeling like family to me & I don't want their adventures and the world they live in to go away. "The Undertaking of Hart & Mercy", "The Undermining of Twyla & Frank, and "The Undercutting of Rosie & Adam" will always have a special place in my heart.
This was the best & coziest way to close out a wonderful series. From cameos of old favorites to a little flare of mystery, I was immersed the second I cracked open the spine.
There's something about a quiet male love interest that does something to me & I can't explain it. Adam is a silent romantic. He will instantly crack your heart open in the best way. He's protective. He's intelligent. He's got a heart of gold. I adored him.
I loved the mystery of the creepy vines taking over our favorite fantasy world. It had me hooked. I needed to know what was going to happen! Trust me, you'll be addicted too.
My favorite favorite favorite part about "Rosie & Adam" (aside from the romance, I can't get enough of the joy that is love) was the look into the God's and Immortals that share the world with the humans. We get a glimpse at these legends in the first two stories, BUT Megan opened the origin story doors open for us, and it's awesome.
If a mix of cozy fantasy and a romantic story with dragons sounds like your jam, then order the entire series. These are my favorite escape books. They are guaranteed to bring you joy.

Such a fond, heartfelt, and bittersweet farewell to the world of Tanria and Eternity! It’s got all the greatest hits from the previous books (including my main man Duckers, all grown up now) and ties to story with a beautiful little bow!
Demigod Marshal Rosie Fox, the tallest immortal lady in town, has a secret crush on quiet and aloof visiting Professor Adam Lee, a short king with an emphasis on king. When things go haywire, the two end up stuck in Tanria with no way out - and just a hope and a dream of ending a curse, saving the old world, and getting out with their lives (shouldn’t be too hard, they are immortal). Through gentle moments, easy banter, overcoming fears, and finding joy, the two are able to… hey I’m not gonna say and spoil it!!
This truly felt like a love letter to the series, and felt like a perfect ending. I’ll leave this with something Adam tells Rosie in a poignant moment, “you don’t have to feel brave to be brave,” a lesson we all should take away from this book!!
Thanks so much to Megan Bannen, Orbit, and NetGalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.

I'm really sad that this series is ending. I have really enjoyed Megan Bannen's worldbuilding and characters. Hopefully she comes back to it someday! There is less romance in this installment than previous ones, but I'd still classify it as in the romance genre, as there was definite yearning and "why am I so interested in his body and what he thinks and why can't I stop thinking about him" storylines to keep any romance reader interested.
This was a truly funny, sweet, and genuine end to a series I'm very sad to see go.

3.5 Stars
Megan Bannen's The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam caught my eye with its adorable cover, and the book largely delivers on that initial charm. While I haven't read the first two books in the series, I appreciated that this installment stands well on its own; references to other characters were light, ensuring new readers won't feel lost.
The world-building, with its unique and quirky setting of Tanria, truly shines and makes me eager to delve into the previous books. I also found the use of contemporary slang surprisingly effective, adding to the book's distinctive voice.
However, the central romance between Rosie and Adam fell flat for me. Their connection felt forced, and despite their interactions, I struggled to believe in their feelings for each other. The lack of chemistry made it difficult to invest in their story, and as a result, the plot often felt boring. I had hoped for more excitement or a stronger sense of urgency given their predicament in Tanria.
Instead, Duckers and Zeddy completely stole the show. Their relationship was far more engaging and compelling, making me wish they were the main focus.
I experienced the book through both ebook and audiobook formats. While the female narrator did a commendable job, the audiobook didn't fully immerse me in the story as other audiobooks have.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit for the ARC.

Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy.
First I would like to petition Megan bannen to reconsider the fact that this the last book in this world. I love this place. Its so creative and original in comparison to a lot of other books in the romantasy genre. Its also true romantasy where the plot and romance are very intertwined. But if she is serious about moving on, this was a good finale. Rosie was a very minor character in previous books but her demigodness and her partner duckers plus tanria were very well known. The newest person is obviously Adam Lee a mysterious new character who invented the portal tanria. Like the last book it's only from Rosie's pov. It also takes place entirely in tanria. And it's so fun. I loved seeing more of duckers and zeddie together. The world of tanria is creative and delightful.
The only negatives I have would be is while I liked this more than the second book, it just isn't going to be better than Hart and Mercys book. Rosie wasnt my favorite character but I did like her story. Also there was a weird Jesus like element to Adam which was... Odd? Not my fav. But I would reread this and totally, 100% recommend this series for any one who loves historical romance and loves fantasy.
4.5 stars

This series has been such a delight. A little bit weird, but so much fun.
This book follows Rosie, a demi god, and Adam, who is much more than expected. This book had a great plot, with plenty of adventure that kept me hooked. I loved the fact that Rosie was tall, and Adam was shorter, we don’t see this enough in romances!
The cast of side characters was so good, seeing my favorites from the previous books was such a treat. Rosie was a hoot, and I loved her relationship with Penrose.
I’m sad to say goodbye to this series!

Thank you net gallery and orbit
I love this series. It’s so fun, quirky, and cozy. This book follows Rosie and Adam as they try to save the Tanria forest and each other. Rosie might be my favorite character of this series. She was really funny, carefree but also knew who she was. She loved her friends fiercely. I laughed out loud multiple times, especially the banter with her and Duckers. I also like getting Duckers and Zeddies story. I love the dragons. I enjoyed Adam’s story too. How the vines changed the first time Rosie showed him kindness, which meant the world to him.
The narrator did an amazing job. The different voices she used for all the characters were great, especially Gobbo. I really hope we get another book from this series. It’s such a fun world and make me feel like a warm hug.

Here’s to another vibrantly coloured book making me cry. 🥂
What an absolutely adorable, whimsy, cozy, macabre romantic fantasy fantastic Megan Bannen created with this series. 🥰
The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I loved Rosie and Adam. I loved Duckers and Zeddie. I loved the throwbacks to Hart & Mercy and Twyla & Frank. This was just a complete win, win, win of a book.
Go spend some more time in this bananapants world and pick this one up on July 8th. 🌿
Many thanks to Orbit Books, Megan Bannen, and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

The romance in this book was more laid back and it felt like it took a backseat especially in the beginning. I thought this was a fantastic wrap up to the series
