I had a lot of fun reading Sadie and Noah's love story. I have absolutely no D&D experience beyond random things I've picked up from pop culture references, and I was able to follow the plot and the game. It made me want to play, myself.
The writing was great, the story was emotional at times but also super light hearted. I will absolutely be looking out for more books from this author, the way she tells a story just got me hooked from the start.
All of the side characters were fun and interesting, hopefully we'll get to see them again in other stories.
Thank you, Netgalley and Random House Publishing—Ballantine, for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review! :)

This was a first D&D read for me and I don't think it disappointed. While I was a little lost (because I have almost zero knowledge of D&D), I caught on fairly quickly because the author did a phenomenal job explaining everything-- So don't let the D&D element deter you from reading! During the sessions, I felt like I was fully immersed into the game. The fact that we got to see the point of view of the campaign that they were doing and se how they interacted in real life vs in the game. ALSO The witty banter in this book UGH *chefs kiss* And Noah and Sadie's chemistry was insane.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for giving me opportunity to review and read this ARC <3

Accidentally gave feedback on the wrong book!! Ugh moving to the top of my TBR, full review coming soon!

Dungeons & Dragons has taken the world by storm over the past couple of years. Once something only geeky nerds used to play, now almost everyone has HEARD of it, if not played it themselves at least once. (I was a pirate rogue!) As such, there's a lot of references now to the game in popular culture. I know of at least two other contemporary romances that have to do with the game. Despite being very heavily entrenched in Dungeons & Dragons, you don't need to know the game in order to enjoy Roll for Romance. The story takes place both IN GAME as their characters, and in 'real life'. You get to see both main characters gain confidence in playing DND, and grow into themselves a bit more. (At least with Sadie, anyway.)
This is an adorable, tooth-achingly sweet book. There's no real villain, nothing goes wrong. AND BEST PART -- SERIOUSLY, BEST PART -- THERE'S NO MISCOMMUNICATION. I can't tell you the last time I've read a contemporary romance without some stupid miscommunication in it. Both Sadie and Noah are very open with each other, and though there's some worrying and anxiety on Sadie's side, Noah was always very up front with her.
If you're looking for something without like any stakes at all, please read this one. It's cute. It's funny. It's surprisingly spicy? There's ONE good sex scene, and it's much hotter than I was originally expecting, so props to Lenora Woods there. The characters are all nice enough, but they're fairly flat and one dimensional. Which is fine for background characters in a romance novel - no one's here for the background characters, I don't think. I do wish we learned more about Noah's family (or lack thereof), because we see a decent amount of Sadie's mentioned.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It's a quick, easy, enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it!

Sadly this was not for me. I found the writing very simplistic, and the way the D&D plotline was executed was not well done in my opinion. It detracted from rather than added to the story, and it was hard staying engaged with the constant shift between storylines.

Thank you to Net Galley for an advance copy in exchange for a fair review.
Boy do I wish this was better. I thought the concept would be great as a massive ttrpg player and romance reader on paper this is perfect. In reality its boring every character in this book has as much depth as a piece of notebook paper. Sadie and Noah have no chemistry to me, but also nobody has any chemistry with each other. The side characters were incredibly forgettable, they barely existed.
the best part of this was the dnd campaign, that is where the author's writing shined and had fun. Though the entire ending of the campaign I felt cut out any tension to the story. Also with out saying the spoiler there is a moment that happens at the dnd table that as a DM of close to 10 years I would never handle it that way especially without discussing with players at the start of the campaign what would be done in that case. It was a bad vibe.
Also Liam he best friend comes off as a dick a lot.
Would not recommend, the author should stay with the fantasy writing aspects not the conteporary.

Roll for Romance is a fun, geeky romance with a creative "story within a story" twist. The D&D sessions were seamlessly woven in, making the fantasy elements just as engaging as the real-world romance. The side characters truly shine, bringing humor, heart, and a strong sense of camaraderie that made both worlds of the book feel more real.
While I struggled to fully connect with the main character at times, I appreciated the moments that explored her mental health—though I wish that aspect had been developed further. Still, this is a charming, heartfelt read that celebrates friendship, storytelling, and the magic of rolling the dice.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Having never played DnD, I was excited for this to see how it was written. I liked the split narrative of reality and in game. The characters in both were so much fun! Can't wait to see what this author does next.

This was an adorable and quite nerdy book. I loved the D&D storyline and what a big part of the story it was. Even for people that aren't into the game, it would still be a great story. Cute with a little bit of stream and very likeable characters!

This reminded me of an adult version of Dungeons and Drama by Kristy Boyce. I loved this one, and it's making me rethink my rule of not dating D&D nerds.

I don't always enjoy romance novels, but this is 100% the best romance novel I have ever read. I loved that we were able to follow along with Sadie's life outside and inside the D&D campaign. I couldn't put this down. I thought the game was interesting and fun, Sadie was relatable and cute. I can't stop talking about this!

I feel like I just rolled a nat 20, and will thinking about this book for a very long time. I am a huge fan of D&D, and ABSOLUTELY LOVED this story. The way the campaign was weaved in was masterfully done. I also enjoyed the little side story that Sadie and Noah would write with each other.
Each character was so well written that they felt like main characters to me. These people feel like my best friends. I need another book immediately. I have to be back in this world. I want to go to Alchemist. I want to go to Ren Faire. I will definitely be buying this book for my D&D group. (Don’t even get me started on the dedication for this book because it had me crying)
A million stars and Heroic Inspiration for you, Lenora.

Roll for Romance is the first romance I’ve read featuring DnD, but it definitely won’t be the last! While I’m not a regular DnD player, I spent many hours playing it with my best friends a few years ago. This book made me feel so nostalgic for that time!
I loved the back and forth between real life and the game. I was initially worried that it would take me out of the story, but the way the two parts were weaved together made it so easy to follow and stay invested. The characters were entertaining and endearing, as well. I absolutely adored Noah! Sadie was a great FMC, and I found myself to be invested in her job struggles and life.
The reason this is a three-star read for me is that, unfortunately, I did find myself getting just a little bored about a quarter of the way through. It was never boring necessarily, but I just wasn’t finding myself racing to read more which is what I wanted. As a massive mood reader, this might’ve just been a case of right book, wrong time.
All in all, this was an enjoyable read, but I’m not sure that I’ll be rereading it in the future. That being said, if you love DnD and want to read a cute romance, please give this one a try!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Random House for the free ARC in exchange for my review.

Thank you NetGalley and Lenora Woods for the arc of Roll for Romance. I truly enjoyed Sadie and Noah's story! I gave it a 3 star rating and minimal spice.
Sadie leaves NYC to bunk with her buddy Liam, after burning out with work. She joins his Dungeons and Dragons game where she meets new friends that have similar interests. Through the D&D game, she meets Noah, who is a free spirited soul, enjoying life. I've never read a book like this. We get told the story through what is happening in Sadie's life as well as how the D&D game is progressing. I love the back and forth between reality and the D&D game, while intertwining reality into the games (like when Noah and Sadie would flirt via their characters). It did read slow during the middle of the book.
I think the romance could've been kept closed door. I don't think it added anything extra to the story and felt a little weird. I do feel like they had more of a connection towards the end of the novel.
Overall, I'd recommend this book for a fun, light hearted read.

I’ll start with the disclaimer that I don’t really know anything about D&D - or at least I didn’t before reading this book.
Even after getting a grasp of the bare basics, the immersive D&D sections jarred me out of the story every. single. time. I felt like I was reading two different books.
That aside, I liked the book alright, it reads a bit like a Hallmark story - woman leaves big city for a small town and is charmed by the life and people - but who doesn’t love a Hallmark story?!
Thank you Ballantine and NetGalley for the ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dell Publishers for providing me with an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was really excited to pick up Roll for Romance—the cozy, nerdy romance vibes and the adorable cover immediately drew me in! The setting of a love story centered around tabletop gaming is so fun, and I really enjoyed the lightheartedness of it all.
The story has a lot of charm, and I can see it being a perfect fit for readers who love sweet, tropey romances with a gamer setting. The gaming elements, found family vibes, and warmth of the story will hook readers right away!

This is a fun, easy read and I love the cover.
Unfortunately around 23% in, I simply became bored and I was forcing myself to read. I truly think this has a lot to do with my mood of reading, but I was also hoping for a bit more depth from the characters. It was cute, but I am sad to say I don’t think it’s for me. I will likely end up getting this in stores if I see it and recommending it to others as I do think it’s a good book, I just personally am not into it currently.
Thank you for the opportunity to sample and read this eARC in advance. I am leaving this honest feedback voluntarily.

This book has the most incredible blend of contemporary romance and fantasy lore, it truly captivated me from the moment I started reading.
Our main character Sadie is playing D&D for the first time while she stays with her college roommate Liam for the summer, and he recruits some other first time players.. including a handsome, charming Bard named Noah. Sadie’s character Jaylie, and Noah’s character Loren begin to spark an in game romance on their adventures, while they also start to spend more time together outside the game.
This book has the most entertaining back and forth between the storytelling of real life Sadie and Noah in Heller, Texas; and the fantasy storytelling of the D&D campaign. I felt like I was truly reading two stories at once and going back and forth between both was just so much fun.
This book is not only perfect for people who play and love D&D, it’s also perfect for people who have never played before. It’s a fantastic introduction into the D&D world, and you will learn the lore and how to play alongside Sadie and Noah.
This book was funny, tender, romantic, and the spicy scenes were SO GOOD.
The ending also had me tearing up because I just loved the characters and the world so much, I truly didn't want it to end.
Thank you so much NetGalley, Penguin Random House, Dell , and Lenora Woods for the chance to read this arc, I can't wait to get my own copy on release day!

I have nothing negative to say about this book! the vibes were there the entire time. I love how the author paints such a wonderful picture in every scene. not even just with the dungeons & dragons campaign, but with how she describes the real life portions too! I loved this book and it had the perfect romantic component, but not too much.
will definitely be buying a physical copy when it gets released!!!

I don’t play D&D but I love the vibes! Naturally, I wanted to read this book. I’m so glad I read this book because it meshes the story telling of the D&D campaign and the actual story so well. I was worried it would be too much jumping around, but it wasn’t at all!! I loved getting to see the main characters develop individually and in their relationship inside and outside of the campaign. Sadie, sweet baby angel Sadie, you deserve the world. I kind of wished we got to see her and her bestie together a little bit more, but I loved their supportive dynamic with each other! Also are we getting a book two with liam??? OMG and noah, you would love mirrorball by Taylor Swift i just know it. Oh! And their slow burn romance???? Had me begging for their relationship to develop and giggling when they would have their small casual touches here and there! I just loved everything about this book from Sadie reconnecting with herself and figuring out what she actually wants in life, to finding an amazing friend group, to the nerdy aspects of our main characters. Please Lenora i’m beggingggggg for moooorrreeeee!
