[Thank you to Dell Romance at Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion]

This is one of the most unique books I’ve read in a while! Woods seamlessly intertwines two worlds: the real world and the fantasy story being played out in the DND campaign.

As someone who has never played DND before, the initial swap into that world threw me for a little bit but once you realize what’s happening, it’s pretty easy to follow. There are some slow parts of the book, but I think it makes it a cozy read.

I found it easy to relate to Sadie, someone who’s burnt out from her career in NYC. Recovering in Heller gives her the freedom to rediscover her love of art, make friends, and figure out what she really wants.

The romance was so sweet! Sadie and Noah are instantly drawn to each other, often flirting through their DND characters, but it’s a slow burn. Both are both unsure what to do or where to go next in life, over the course of the story they’re able to figure things out. There’s no big drama so it felt realistic.

Cute! Loved following the characters in and out of their D&D Campaign.

This story centers around Sadie, a woman whose work burnout from working NYC led her to move in with her best friend, Liam in Texas. There she rediscovers her passion for art and at the suggestion of Liam, starts a D&D campaign where she meets Noah and a slow burn romance ensues.

I enjoyed this novel because Lenora Woods actually immersed us in the D&D campaign through a fantasy narrative and gave us two storylines to follow. Sadie as a main character was enjoyable and I found myself relating to her trying to find her way in this world after dealing with being fired. The romance between her and Noah had me kicking my feet at times as they continue to flirt and dance around each other in almost every single interaction and the slow burn is real.

For those looking for a cozy slow burn, this is it as there is really only a handful of spicy moments. Ultimately, I gave this 4 stars because I did find the pacing to be inconsistent at times.

Unfortunately, the book didn't resonate with me, and it's not about the quality of the writing, but rather the lack of connection with the story. I'm not familiar with D&D and have never played.

In my opinion, the book might appeal to those already familiar with D&D, but for me, it was too much information.

Another D&D player romance which has become one of my favorite types of reads. This romance was different, not only did we get Sadie's point of view, but also her D&D character, Jaylie. The pacing was slow, but it made up for it by the immersive storytelling of the D&D game. I loved every second of it (even though I skipped the smut scenes). Noah and Sadie romance is nerdy, sweet, and honestly the cutest couple by far.
I highly recommend if you are a fan of D&D and nerds being nerds and falling in love.

I love when there's a parallel to a game in the book that's so strong they're blurred. That's her life now, and she needs to decide which life she wants to continue, New York, or Texas. Such a sweet romance.

Definitely a super interesting way to write a story! I don’t know anything about DnD but the dual pov (?) between the real world and the game world was fun and different!

It felt a bit insta-lovey but when you know you know I guess. There’s a lot of realllly small details about almost everything packed in here, which makes this a dense info packed read, not necessarily my favorite (readers can fill in gaps/ we don’t need to know exactly how she tied her shoes for example). Overall I liked this though!

Perhaps I am biased with how this book is D&D related, perhaps I'm just a simply girlie who has an affinity for males who look like Gale in the cover? Who knows. But one thing's for sure, I stayed UP for Noah and Jaylie.

This book dives between two different stories, just in case anyone is wary of that—the way it's done makes sense, and I find it interesting, I'll say that. Any more and I would give out spoilers. 😭 It's recommended for people who have not gotten the chance to try their hand out in D&D because the sessions are made easier to understand, which I find very considerate.

The FMC, Jaylie, is not a teen (thank goodness!!), which made her current situation much more relatable. I do believe that she can still be a stronger FMC in a way that I know the author knows how, but she honestly felt a little meh to me. But boy, oh boy, Noah... what a character.

OH, and THAT scene?! THAT scene, yeah. MHMM I thought they were done and it would be fade to black but nOooooOOo, they kept going!!! Which, thank you, Lenora, for that. Truly. My gauze-filled mouth did not appreciate the way I had to wiggle around so much in bed throughout that whole scene, but you know what? I rolled a Nat20 in Dexterity. 😤

Would I recommend this book? ABSOLUTELY!! Especially for people wanting to see the hype in D&D, as well as for my fellow hopeless, adventuring, romantics out there. The book is currently available for pre-order, so feel free to grab one as it also includes their lovely characters. 🥹🥹

AND BEFORE I CLOSE THIS OFF—DOES THAT MEAN IN THE END ONE OF THEM IS CANONICALLY A WARLOCK BECAUSE HELL YEAAAA THAT'S MY CLASS!!!!!!

Lenora Woods I hope your pillow is always cold on both sides!! What a delightful story, 4/5 stars ⭐️
I am fairly new to reading D&D inspired romance books but this was lovely!! I felt the pacing was a bit slow but that did not deter me. I love the relationship between Sadie and Noah and their D&D characters.

Sadly this was a dnf for me about 20% in as I found it a bit slow, and the writing I personally didn't feel invested in. I personally love D&D or cute romances and unfortunately this one did not grip my attention.

Thank you for the arc!

If you are a fan of D&D I feel this is the perfect book for you! Geeky, comical, and all around a cozy good time. I'm new to arc reading so I'm used to physical books but I didn't realize how fast I would read this one. Noah is such a cinnamon roll and gives me Gale vibes 😅 I will be getting a physical copy just so I can annotate but this book is definitely re-read worthy! Thank you again for the opportunity! It made this Rogue cleric elf happy 🥰🖤

What is there to say other than that I love love and I love role playing. Either there has been an upswing in the number of dungeons and dragons, or general nerdy, romance books written in the past year or I am just becoming aware. Either way, sign me up and keep 'em coming. I am also a big sucker for a narrative within a narrative, so LOVED this book. Chef's kiss, etc. Please read this.

This is a fun, sweet story of romance and found family. And Dungeons & Dragons. I’ve read D&D as a storytelling device before, but it’s used so uniquely here. Their game play is told in its own world as its own story, and it’s pretty cool. A nice, quick read. Thanks to Dell for the ARC.

Roll for Romance was a cute and geeky read that felt like getting two stories in one. The mix of real-life romance and tabletop adventures concept was super fun, that said, I found myself skimming the D&D campaign sections and wishing for more time with Sadie and Noah, whose relationship had a lot of charm.

Overall, it’s a fun escape with plenty of nerdy heart—especially for fans of romance with a twist!

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc!

From the moment this one was announced I knew I HAD to have it. As someone who loves all things nerdy (with the backlog of convention badges to prove it), I felt that this book was made for me and I WAS RIGHT.

ROLL FOR ROMANCE is a warm hug of a romance for the fantasy girlies and the ones who are hitting that quarter midlife crisis wall. Sadie is such a lovingly well-drawn protagonist, and watching her struggle with what she wants out of her future while she falls in love with Noah was such a joy. The found family themes here are so strong, both in and out of the campaign, and I adored our cast of side characters. Highly recommend this one, whether or not you know D&D!

This book just wasn’t my vibe. It was too in the weeds with d&d. I think fans of the game would be in heaven!

Roll for Romance feels like a contemporary romance and fantasy romance double feature all rolled into a single book

Not only do you get to see Sadie and Noah fall in love via their real-life interactions but you’re also thrust into the D&D story where you see their characters flirt and interact as well. It makes for a unique experience.

What’s to love…
- nerdy romance and plenty of D&D
- healthy communication
- cinnamon roll MMC
- Red-haired MMC (we need more of these)
- small-town Texas setting
- Story within a story
- self-discovery/self-love journey
- Slow-burn
- found family

What didn’t work for me…
- What didn’t work for me is probably going to be the reason so many people absolutely LOVE this book. I am not a huge story within a story fan, so this was hard for me to get into. Each story is so well done and I would gladly read more from this author! Actually, I’d LOVE a cozy romantasy from this author, the world she creates with the game-play is lush and her writing style is easy to fall in love with.

Roll for Romance is an insanely cute contemporary romance with a bit of magic thrown in.

While the contemporary romance itself is a bit formulaic to me, the D&D elements in it definitely added to the entire story. I loved jumping back and forth between real life and the D&D campaign.

As someone who loves both D&D and romance novels, this story felt like coming home. Not only do we get the sweetest love from Noah and Sadie, but we also get the story of the adventure their characters go on when they sit at the table and play. The dual story telling was so fun and added so much depth to all the members of the party both in game in and out. It felt whimsical and real all at once. Can’t wait to purchase when it releases later this year!
