I read Murder in the Appalachians in one day because it is so suspenseful, and I couldn't stop reading it! Be prepared to be pulled into Emma and Logan's story from the first page until the last. It's a story about searching for the truth. Emma is searching for the truth about her brother's death. She's convinced that this homicide isn't what it appears to be since he was working on a cold case when he was killed. Being shot at and chased only confirms her theory. It turns out that the cold case indirectly involves the disappearance of Logan's sister years ago.
I loved Emma and Logan! They're both strong characters with real struggles. Logan struggles with PTSD, yet he puts others' needs ahead of his own. Emma is a brilliant investigative journalist, so there's no way she's going to let her brother's murder get mishandled. Emma and Logan are in constant danger, but they seek refuge with one of Logan's friends who is a veteran in his 70s. A few other vets live in the house too. I absolutely loved these guys! They're funny and tough even though they're all senior citizens by now. It's characters like these guys who make a good book even better.
I highly recommend Murder in the Appalachians! It's got well-written characters and a suspenseful mystery that will keep you guessing! If you're a fan of Love Inspired Suspense, you won't be able to put it down!

This book is full of action, suspense, and just enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. The author brought the story to life with her words and you felt like you were there. If you are a fan of clean romantic suspense, you will love this book.
I received a complimentary copy from Harlequin via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Emma is absolutely put through the wringer! She is shot at, pursued, and then attached again and again. And that was just in the first two chapters!
Something insidious surrounded her brother’s death and as she and the local doc, Logan, relentlessly try to suss out the clues their lives are constantly in the line!
Both Logan and Emma are dealing with their own demons and inadvertently wreak havoc in many people associated with them.
I held my breath during one part, heck I was starved for oxygen as I read, because I found myself doing that a lot.
It’s action packed drama, insulated in sadness and reckoning, but also has the realization that life is to be lived and not just be full of recriminations and regret.
My favorites were Huey and the vets! That’s the part I held my breath the longest with.

Secrets, murder, cold case, conspiracy - hang on it’s a thrilling bumpy ride from cover to cover.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from Harlequin and Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

An action-packed romantic suspense. Many questions about various murders eventually all get solved. Several surprises. Quick read. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

I had never read a book by Susan Furlong until this one. Murder in the Appalachians was a first-rate murder mystery. It had edge-of-your-seat action and suspense with a cold case that will take you in circles. Just when you think you have it figured out, look out. Good job, Susan!!

Emma Hayes goes to her brothers' cabin after has died. She is looking for anything that tell her what he was working on before he died. He was a police officer killed during a traffic stop, but she knows it was actually a murder. When is at the cabin a man appears and is trying to kill her; she does get away and local ER doctor Logan Greer finds her. When he finds out who she is he decides to help her find the truth. Logan is also keeping secrets from Emma along with the police department.

This was a fast-paced Christian romantic mystery/suspense that immediately drew me in and made for a quick read. Emma’s twin Daniel has been killed in the line of duty as a police officer. The case seemed closed, but Emma feels something is off, especially after finding a notebook hidden in Daniel’s cabin. After she’s chased by a stranger and injured, ER doctor Logan comes to her aid and immediately makes it his mission to protect Emma and help her find out the truth. It becomes clear Daniel was reopening an old cold case and those involved will stop at nothing to keep Emma from getting too close to the truth. While this was a short novel, I still really felt connected to the characters and thought it was intriguing.
Thank you to Harlequin for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Susan Furlong does a great job of combining Christian beliefs with an exciting murder mystery in Murder in the Appalachians! I enjoyed following the main character, Emma, as she searches for information on her brother’s death. Along the way, Emma finds much more! This was a good read!

⭐⭐⭐⭐
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Emma an investigative journalist is shocked to find out that her brother was shot and killed in his line of work during an “accidental road rage incident” but she believes it was something more and it had to do with the last voicemail her brother left her before he died, Emma thinks this was a planned murder. And she will stop at nothing to find out the hidden truth, but with that desire to question she runs into situations that will either mean life or death, can she really discover the truth?
The theme of this novel was powerful, reflects about how God can handle our anger and rage because He is bigger than our temporary emotions, His word is eternal, and Emma goes through so many emotions and spiritual warfare and to see how Christ was able to turn that heart back into flesh was beautiful!
The romance was so pure and adorable, Logan has such a heart for God and it’s just great to see. He becomes someone who leads by example, James 1:22-26 not just hearing the word of God but acts on it, and Emma is able to see this and is inspired because he also had a tragedy in his life, but even still he never takes his eyes off God. Their story is adorable!
As always thank you to Susan Furlong and Netgalley for this ARC stay blessed everyone 😊🙏

Page turning, fast paced action from page one. Murder in the Appalachians by Susan Furlong has strong characters with multiple plot twists to keep the readers on the edge of their seats.
Releases Apr. 1st. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Susan has written an amazing story with this one. There’s so much suspense, a lot of mystery that keeps you guessing, and a sweet romance that slowly develops. I couldn’t stop reading and was excited to see how it all ended. As someone who loves romance, I thought that would be the part that kept me reading, but honestly, the suspense had me hooked. I was so focused on figuring out who did it… she really pulled me into the story!
The story follows Emma, an investigative journalist trying to figure out who killed her brother. In doing so, she accidentally brings a criminal out of hiding, putting her life at risk. Many people think her brother’s death was an easy case to solve, but Emma knows there’s more to it. As she gets closer to the truth, the more danger she’s in. While running for her life, she meets Logan, a veteran struggling with PTSD and guilt over the death of a patient. He’s in the mountains trying to clear his mind, but once he sees Emma is in danger, he can’t just walk away. With his own sister’s unsolved case still haunting him, he wonders if he can also uncover the truth behind it. As they work together, they start developing feelings for each other. But Emma is only staying until the case is solved, and then she’s returning to DC. Logan has a big secret he knows he’ll have to tell her eventually. But none of that matters if he can’t keep her safe from the people after her.
This story is a real page-turner. The romance felt real and sweet, and the mystery was definitely my favorite part.
I rated this one 4.5 stars, rounded up to a 5!

Four and a half stars.

"Murder in the Appalachians" is a Christian book of suspense, mystery and romance. Emma is an investigative journalist and her brother is or was a detective. He had been looking into an old, closed, murder case. Now her brother is dead. The murderer's in prison, so what got him killed? Emma uses his police notebook in her search for clues. Logan, an ER doctor helps protect her as she investigates. . Interestingly, Logan’s sister went missing during that same event. As they work together, they become close and thus romantically involved
I found Logan and Emma interesting and most likable characters as they supported each other and built each other up. The story also explores the loss of loved ones and the difficulty of moving forward in life.
I recommend this engaging novel of romantic suspense filled with mystery.

This book takes the reader in a suspenseful ride where they are unsure who to trust and what is going to happen next.
It's interesting that both Logan and Emma are dealing with the disappearance or murder of their siblings. Logan is also such a noble guy as he continues to help Emma even though he hardly knows her.
The excitement and suspense abound in this book. I can't say anymore without ruining the surprises, but check this book out!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

Who doesn’t love a good mystery and suspense filled book? This book is well written with enough twists and turns that keep you captivated. This book will be released on April 1, 2025.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All words are my own.

"Murder in the Appalachians" is a Christian romantic suspense. Emma's an investigative journalist whose detective brother was looking into an old, closed case. The murderer's in prison, so Emma had to figure out from his police notebook just what got him killed. ER doctor Logan helped protect her while she investigated, and he had an interest in it as his sister went missing during that old murder. They came to admire each other as they worked together.
The main characters were engaging, interesting, and generally reacted realistically to events. The suspense was created by ongoing attacks on Emma, some intended to be deadly. Emma and Logan supported each other and built each other up. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this interesting romantic suspense.

Oh I love me a good mystery and these suspense books are great! The story was well written, the plot well thought out, and the characters were engaging.
