This is a tender and emotionally layered friends-to-lovers romance that delivers heart, depth, and real-life stakes. Pippa, a midwife guarding her heart after a painful divorce, and Lachlan, a doctor burdened by the fear of a hereditary disease, are both commitment-averse. Their mutual attraction leads to a no-strings-attached “three-date rule,” a seemingly safe arrangement—until an unexpected pregnancy forces them to confront their deepest fears and desires.

Roberts does a brilliant job exploring vulnerability, choice, and the courage it takes to embrace love when the future is uncertain. Pippa and Lachlan’s chemistry is undeniable, and their emotional growth throughout the story feels both authentic and rewarding.

This is a wonderful pick for fans of workplace romances with real emotional stakes, rich character development, and a satisfying blend of romance and realism.

Midwife's Three-Date Rule by Alison Roberts is an enjoyable, heartwarming, friends to lovers story between colleagues. After being hurt by her ex-husband, midwife Pippa has decided to avoid relationships and romance. Lachlan, a doctor and the new Head of the Department, avoids getting serious with anyone; especially knowing he could be carrier for Huntington’s disease. Attracted to each other and able to relate to their shared avoidance of relationships, they create the ‘three date rule’; three dates, no expectations, and then return to being friends and co-workers. Except, the unthinkable consequence happens from their sparking, sizzling chemistry during one of their dates; Pippa becomes pregnant. Lachlan is devastated, to say the least; fearful of passing on a death sentence to a child. With this life-changing news, Pippa and Lachlan have so much to discuss, debate, and decide. A wonderful, medical, workplace romance.

The Midwife's Three-Date Rule its the first Harlequin Medical Romance that I have read. Pippa is a midwife in London, whose new supervisor, Lachlan, a talented obstetrician, is her romantic interest. Author Alison Roberts uses the dating rule of the novel's title to weave an enjoyable romance. The Midwife's Three-Date Rule focuses on the romance between Pippa and Lachlan. This novel is without graphic sex, which makes the romance more fun. Most readers have good imaginations, or at least I do.. The characters are enjoyable and the plot predictable, but still a nice romance.

Set in a obstetrics ward, Pippa is a midwife and Lachlan the new head of the department. They have an instant attraction but Pippa has a rule. She’ll only date the same person three times. Lachlan doesn’t want long term relationships either and is really attracted to Pippa so he’s cool about the three date rule. But their attraction becomes deeper than they had intended. Then a surprise happens that changes both of their lives. Will they cope together or will this tear them apart?

This is a sweet engaging and endearing book. Many patrons look for books without graphic sex or violence and this is for them. Set in an obstetrics ward it is interesting to read about the medical aspect and to meet some of the mothers birthing in the ward. Although Pippa has had miscarriages in the past but they aren’t described and none of the babies being born in the ward are lost so this is not likely to trigger women. It is just a charming book.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
