I have read all of A.R. Torre's books and enjoyed every one of them. A psychiatrist, Joe, is married to a homicide detective. Both are attractive and seem to have it all. They made a conscious decision not to have children, which was a good decision. Their love for one another is envied by all who knew them. But as you may expect, they have secrets - ones that they share and some that they do not share. All I can say is fasten your seatbelts; it's going to be a wild ride. Nobody does it better than A.R. Torre.

I absolutely JUMPED at the opportunity to read A.R. Torre's upcoming thriller because I love every book of hers that I’ve read. It definitely deserves the buzz it’s getting at Thriller Book Lovers, The Pulse. I love Torre’s short chapters, unhinged characters, and unimaginable twists. Her book, The Last Party, is my favorite of hers so far!

A Happy Marriage contains Torre’s most unhinged characters yet! Told from multiple points of view, this novel explores the depths that some people might go to in order to have “a happy marriage.” LA Detective Dinah Marino adores her psychiatrist husband, Joe. They always put each other as their top priority and base their relationship around mutual trust. But Dinah has a long buried secret that cannot come to see the light of day… not if she can help it.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, Torre throws another twist into the mix and kept me flying through chapters. Get ready to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride!

This thriller is a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat read that keeps you guessing until the very last page. The plot is tightly woven with clever twists and unexpected turns, and the tension builds masterfully throughout. The protagonist is compelling and easy to root for, while the antagonist adds just the right amount of menace to keep the stakes high. The author does an excellent job of balancing action with psychological depth, making the story both suspenseful and emotionally satisfying. If you're a fan of thrillers that combine smart writing with heart-pounding suspense, this one is not to be missed.

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for early access to A Happy Marriage in exchange for my honest review!

Dinah are Joe are happy married, but both have secrets. This domestic thriller will keep you hooked from the beginning! So unhinged!

I did think that it was a bit over the top, but that didn't take away how good the plot was.

"A Happy Marriage" by A.R. Torre is an incredibly satisfying thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The author masterfully weaves twists within twists, making it a thrilling ride from start to finish. While the sheer number of characters might be a bit overwhelming at times, Torre uses multiple POVs to add depth and dimension to the story. Just when you think you’ve pieced everything together, another twist slaps you in the face, leading you down yet another suspenseful path. The tension builds steadily throughout the book, making it hard to put down. If you’re a fan of thrillers that challenge your perceptions and keep you guessing, this one is definitely worth your time!

This book is fast paced and so many secrets to uncover!! I was hooked from the very first sentence! Seriously, this story is dark and unhinged and I couldn’t put it down!

I LOVED the dual POV for Dinah and Joe and the short chapters. She is a detective and he is a psychiatrist…and that’s really all I can tell you. The twists and turns are wild so I highly recommend going into this one blind!!

First I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for the ARC of this novel.

I love a good, quick, twisty thriller and this was a good one by A.R. Torre. This thriller had me hooked from the first chapter and I devoured the book in 24 hours.

I have to say I thought I had this book totally figured out in the first couple chapters and it went in a totally different direction then I was expecting and that it always a great surprise. I love it when a thriller catches me off guard.

Or the three main characters none of them was super likeable. I know we were suppose to feel bad for Jessica and I did but she just felt a little flat to me. I couldn’t bring myself to care too much about her.

I think overall this book started out really strong but the second half felt a little off and just so out there I didn’t get the satisfying ending that I was hoping for.

But I still enjoyed the book and will definitely recommend it to all my thriller girls out there.

3.75/5 stars rounded up to 4 for this review.

Review of A Happy Marriage by AR Torre

Thank you so much to @thrillerbookloversthepulse and @alessandratorre4 for the advanced digital copy of this one!

I always enjoy this author’s thrillers and I have to say this one did not disappoint at all. I read it in one day because it had so many great twists. The characters were highly dispecable but I was one hundred percent there for it. It’s out June 24!

Synopsis:
Los Angeles homicide detective Dinah Marino may have a complicated relationship with her family, but her psychiatrist husband, Joe, makes her feel safe, secure, and happy. She couldn’t want for a more loving or trusting man. But throughout their ten-year marriage, she’s been keeping a secret from him—a secret she’d take to the grave.
Dr. Joe Marino loves his wife more than anything in this world, but there are things he’s learned to keep close to the chest—including a few dead bodies. When a missing woman tied to his wife’s latest case is admitted to his hospital, doctor-patient confidentiality lands their marriage on some new and uneven ground.
As Dinah digs deeper into her case, tension works its way inside their picture-perfect home. Now the carefully constructed lies between them don’t just simply threaten the delicate balance of their marriage—they could kill.

This was my first book from this author, although I do have couple of others on my Kindle TBR. I am now moving those to my "Must Read" list! This book is insane and very disturbing. One must also be willing to suspend all belief. Not a problem at all!! Just go for it! You are in for a fun treat! The story is the very definition of psychological thriller! I would love to meet most of my favorite authors, but I think I will stay far, far away from A.R. Torre! What must go on in that mind! And I mean that in the most flattering way!

Thank you to NetGalley, A.R. Torre and Thomas & Mercer for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I will post my review to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Instagram and other retail and social media sites upon publication day of June 24, 2025.

This novel explores the complexities of a marriage between a detective and a psychiatrist, where lies and secrets threaten to unravel their relationship as they are forced to confront the truth.

This book did not disappoint! The reading experience was fast-paced and suspenseful right from the beginning. I found myself easily finishing it in a day, but the plot was so twisted!

Approaching this book without any prior knowledge was the best decision. The main character is morally ambiguous in many ways, and I was taken aback by how the story unfolded. I was not expecting this unlikely pair to be okay with committing so many wrongdoings while believing they were actually doing good. The outcome could have gone either way from the very beginning.

The plot was captivating and well-crafted. It presented a thought-provoking situation - what would I do in their shoes? I was left with numerous questions upon finishing the book, but I suppose I can come up with my own answers since it did not leave room for a sequel.

If you enjoy a fast-paced read with some predictable twists, filled with suspense, then this book is definitely for you.

Thank you, Thomas & Mercer, for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow - this one was definitely different and not what I expected based on that title . I love the way this author slowly unravels the story and how expertly she reveals the twists. The ending was also very unexpected and quite satisfying

I’m not even sure how to begin describing what I just read. My heart was racing, and my hands were sweating the entire time. A Happy Marriage is not your typical thriller—this book was absolutely incredible. I was on the edge of my seat, barely breathing as I turned each page. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in just two days!

Dinah, a devoted detective in LA, appears to have the perfect marriage with her husband, Joe, a psychiatrist. Their relationship is everything to them, and they work hard to keep it flawless. But when Dinah delves into a complicated murder case, things start to unravel. Something doesn’t feel right, but what exactly is it? As the case progresses, Dinah is forced to make difficult choices and question how much she’s willing to sacrifice to keep the life she’s always wanted. Get ready—this is the moment you’ll need to buckle up for the wild rollercoaster ride ahead!

This book is absolutely unputdownable! An intense psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. With multiple points of view, shocking twists, bite-sized chapters, and complete chaos, it’s one of the most binge-worthy reads I’ve had in a long time. AR Torre masterfully balances suspense with psychological depth, creating a narrative that feels both intimate and perilously thrilling.

If you love unpredictable characters, mind-bending twists, and jaw-dropping revelations, make sure to grab A Happy Marriage when it drops in June! You won't want to miss it.

Another day of loving the concept but not the execution. This started off strong but then quickly went downhill. It was pretty obvious what was going on and one of the main characters was just so...dumb. I'm sure her naivety was supposed to be humourous but it just made her frustrating to read. I had more questions than answers at the end. I loved A.R. Torre's previous books so I can't wait to see what she does next. 2.5 stars rounded up.

This was a bit too twisty and neither character had redeeming qualities and I could not engage with the storyline. .

A Happy Marriage gives a new spin on the phrase “happy marriage”. I went into this novel expecting a devious spouse but got so much more! Dinah is a detective and her husband, Joe is a psychiatrist who dote on each other but both are keeping secrets from the other. When they find they have a common interest in a new case, things start to kick into high gear only to unravel.

a.r. torre has done it again. i devoured this in less than 24 hours because it was just. that. good.

addicting, intense and all around unhinged. the perfect bingeable domestic thriller!

i really enjoyed how the characters seemed so happy with themselves and their internal dialogues when in reality they were so disturbed. they felt the things they did were justified.

although joe and dinah seemingly are okay with how they wound up, i wanted something a bit more dramatic especially with how many victims they had. they were true manipulators and gaslighters - making this a very addicting thriller. and happy that jessica was Ok in the end.

Ooh!  What a deliciously twisted little book!

Go in blind y’all.  I absolutely devoured this thriller!  It had everything- unreliable narrators, multiple POV’s, twists galore, and super short chapters, and mass chaos. One of the most bingeable books I’ve read in a while. AR Torre does a brilliant job of balancing suspense and psychological depth crafting a story that feels intimate and dangerous.

Y'all... this plot!

A.R. Torre does not disappoint when it comes to some wild plots and drama. I am struggling to talk about this one without giving anything away. All I can say is just read it. I gave this book 4 out of five stars because it had a great plot, likeable characters, and short chapters (y'all know how I love my short chapters).

I think this would be a really good book for somebody in a reading slump and just needs something different. It will definitely take you on a wild ride and get you out of the slump!

A.R. Torre has done it again! I was glued to the pages of this twisty thriller and shocked with how everything played out! The blend of police procedural with domestic and psychological thriller is done perfectly. It’s not often that the work life and home life of a detective get equal parts of the spotlight but that’s exactly what you get in this one. Both storylines are equally thrilling and Dinah Marino is definitely a character I won’t forget soon! I’m so glad I got to read this one with my booksta besties and we all loved it!

Homicide detective Dinah Marino presented with a case of murder and missing person. Renee Bishop was found dead in her home while her daughter, Jessica, seems nowhere to be found.
Dinah's husband, Joe, is a psychiatrist who runs his own psychiatric clinic. Joe had a backstory of helping Dinah to get through her darkest moment of her job.
The story starts very strong in the very beginning, but unfortunately, the plot is just underdeveloped. I feel that i need to have more background stories about Dinah, Joe, and also the additional characters, Oley and Freddie. (I feel like I need a prequel of this book)😁
However, the writing style really got me hooked to keep reading, and I can still describe this book as a page turner as I finished this up just in two sitting.
