The blurb: "Papa's job in the military has taken Esmerelda and her family all over the world—and yet she's never lived in the United States. Now she and her family are moving to San Antonio, Texas.
Although many of her extended family members live there, Esmerelda is unsure it'll feel like home. Even more, she's unsure she will fit in. Gradually, music and her sweet abuela spark bravery and the realization that home is not always a place—it's familia."
I enjoyed the unique story of a military child and her relationship to her family members. I think this is an informative book that can stimulate discussion when a child has to move to another city, state, or country.

A adorable picture book with bright and realistic illustrations about how military children emotional cope with relocation. It’s really exciting to see a new addition discussing military children experiences and more happy to see it was represented by a Hispanic family. I loved how Esmeralda connected with her family in Texas thru culture, food and music. It also carry the message that with love and patience everything is possible!
As a military spouse I’m perfectly aware of how difficult is to move frequently, especially for children. Leaving behind family and friends and finding a new place to call home can be challenging but it also offers new opportunities. Reading and discussing thru other children’s experiences can be very helpful, It gives hope to those little ones, allowing them to see the positive side and expect the unexpected.

Great illustrations hook me every time, and this book did not disappoint. Love the military aspect, as there are millions of children whose parents are deployed or active military. Their return is a very special occasion. Cute and heart-warming. Will definitely recommend.

This is a beautifully illustrated book about a family returning to their home town after living overseas. Esmerelda has never lived there and is so worried about moving. This is good for children who will be moving, especially if they will be moving to be near family.

Welcome Home, Esmerelda is a sweet story about a young girl who has lived abroad and away from family for a long time. Now that she’s returning home, she’s nervous and overwhelmed as any child would be. But as soon as she arrives, her grandmother ensures to bring her into the fold.. Who wouldn’t want to return home where there’s a party, great food, music, and family. This was a sweet book for readers who are apprehensive about moving or returning home after a long time. The illustrations and colors were lovely and very vibrant. I loved the little vignettes within to show all of the activities she undertakes.

Esmerelda is a young girl whose father is in the military, so she's used to frequently moving around. But when he tells the family they're moving back to San Antonio, she's nervous: what if she never quite feels at home? Her older sister seems to know all the family already: what if it's awkward when *she* finally meets everyone?
Luckily, with a lot of love, patience, reassurance from her Abuela, and the comforting music of Selena, Esmerelda discovers that her heart can feel at home no matter where she is.
This is a beautifully illustrated story of overcoming your nerves and celebrating your family and culture! Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.
