I loved this. Slow burns are my favorite and the author did it so well. As someone who loves books (clearly), reading about libraries and the idea of being surrounded by books in general made me so happy. Ingrid and Macon's relationship evolved in a meaningful and realistic way. I usually wish for dual pov books, but I genuinely didn't need dual pov to feel the yearning. I related to Ingrid's anxiety a bit too much, haha but it only helped in letting me feel more connected with the story.

I was thoroughly pleased with the entire book! I was hooked in from the beginning and it held my interest throughout. I was a big fan of the author's previous book, Anna and the French Kiss (what do you mean it's 15 years old now?!?!?!), so I was not surprised that I enjoyed this even more. The characterization was great and I had a great time reading it, which was exactly what I was hoping for.

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and Stephanie Perkins for the ARC of this book! All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

@gfgirlreading:
Macon is grumpy, but so kind and attentive. Ingrid is of all of sunshine. This is a slow burn.
I loved the bookshop and the library and how Macon and Ingrid made his house their own. Loved it!!!!

Overdue has to be one of the strongest contemporary romances I'll read this year. It follows Ingrid at the end of her relationship with her long-term boyfriend Cory and the evolution of her friendship with coworker and crush Macon. Ingrid and Macon (and even Cory, to some extent) are well-developed and interesting, and they're not the one-dimensional, blandly perfect main characters found in much contemporary romance. They are surrounded by a diverse and delightful array of friends, coworkers, and family members, and the book has several interesting plot elements beyond the immediate scope of their relationship. The relationship develops slowly and realistically, and the payoff is satisfying and hopeful.

And I've gotta say, I love any book that throws in some digs against January 6 insurrectionists. Take all my money, Stephanie Perkins!

First I would like to give a huge thank you to @netgalley and @mcmillianpublishing @st.martinspublishing for an e-arc of Stephanie Perkins debut adult novel. This story was everything I needed and more.
I was a huge fan a Stephanie Perkins when she came out with the “Anna and the French Kiss” trilogy. When I saw she came out with her 1st adult novel I knew I needed to read it and it didn’t disappoint.
In this story we had two main characters: Ingrid, the fmc is someone who always showcases a bubbly personality on the outside but on the inside is someone who doubts herself and struggles with confidence in herself and her abilities. She was in a relationship with someone for 11 years before putting their relationship on hold to see if they were right for each other. Then we have the mmc Macon who comes off always grumpy, but we find out along the way is the one with a lot of pressure on his shoulders. While they are both friends and coworkers Iggy knows she wants more from Macon but when he rejects her she tries to find what she is looking for
This story was the perfect amount of slow burn proving that the best relationships begin with a friendship.
This story was honestly too cute.
My overall rating is a 4.25 stars

I really wanted to love this book. I really did. By the time it got where it was going, I had lost interest.
Partly because I just couldn't find a way to like any of the characters.
Partly because in the last 6 weeks I have read a book about a married couple that takes a year off to see other people and decide if they want to be together any more, and a book about a cute librarian in a small town that gets dumped and falls in love with the bartender ex boyfriend of the woman her fiance left her for. And another book about a couple "taking a break"

I just couldn't get into this one, and honestly the main character was REALLY unlikeable to me. I couldn't figure out why the whole town seems to love her so much.

It's probably not a bad book, it just wasnt for me, and I don't think it's all the books fault.

A superstar-level romantic slow burn that hits all the right notes. So much fun to read—every moment was perfectly paced and irresistibly charming. Bonus points for having the cutest cover ever. Total win.

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did, usually the whole ‘let’s break up and see other people’ trope feels unreal and weird in stories and I usually shy away from books with it, or I don’t like them.

But this book was the exception! It was really well done, felt entirely plausible, and also it was only the beginning of the story, when you take the plot as a whole. So if you’re like me and tend to dislike that plot device, don’t let that deter you from checking out this book.

Aside from that, this book was a great example of a slow burn friends-to-lovers style. I think one of the things that really helped make this story as good as it is, is that it is also a story that has lots of relatability in it. Whether that is characteristics of main characters (Macon and Ingrid), or the side characters, who are all really well fleshed out for their supporting roles, it all works. It feels like a story that we could see ourselves in, whether main character or friend or coworker. And a last note, I loved the pacing and writing style. There was not cheesiness or mush, the writing had just the right amount of imagery to paint pictures in my head, and the dialogue was realistic and at times funny.

I give this book a 4.5 star rating, and can’t wait to see what the author writes next… hopefully more stories like this!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest review. Thank you for the opportunity.

The homage to booklovers so cute!! It’s a slow slow burn book and they burn but slowly! Why it it take Macon so long to tell Ingrid who knows but he loves loves her!

This was a great slow-burn romance. Initially, I thought it was too slow, but as I went along with reading it, I had needed all the back-and-current-story to appreciate it .
Ingrid and her boyfriend Cory have been together for 11 years, but when her sister gets ENGAGED, they have big thoughts. They decide mutually to take a break for a month, to see what else is out there, and get together after that and decide to marry or split. Disastrous dates for Ingrid, much growing up and finding herself. At times, the cringe was so bad I could feel it myself for Ingrid, with some of her adventures in dating. The slow burn is with Mason, her coworker at the library.
Over all, this was a lovely, heartwarming little romance. I loved all the characters, and it would be great to get some romances, prequels, whatnot, with some of them.

The premise of "Overdue" was a lot of fun. What if you and your significant other realize that you aren't ready to marry but you don't want to break up permanently either. What if you had a month to break free and follow your heart wherever it leads you? Would a month be enough? Can you truly go back afterwards or is there something better waiting for you? All of these are issues that the main character Ingrid faces as she and her significant other Cory take a temporary "break". Ingrid has harbored feelings for her coworker Macon but Macon isn't going to risk his heart unless it's for keeps. Meanwhile, Ingrid is rebuilding her life in many surprising ways! This romance has a lot of layers.

I love the characters, the premise, the tension and the setting. It did feel a little lengthy and drawn out and I wanted to slap Ingrid and Macon so many times but after all, it was a lovely story.

This was cute, but I just don't think I was the intended audience for it! A great escapism book. I loved the homage to book lovers, and the realistic look at what dating is like these days.

Very cute. Who doesn't love a librarian who is looking for love? A little slow to start, but it got there. 3.5 stars

Very sweet heartwarming story. There were points I was stressing for the main character. Loved that they were both readers.

Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Stephanie Perkins for early access to Overdue.

An elegantly written story of personal growth and self-discovery, with a slow burn romance. Perkins does a phenomenal job of evoking Ingrids emotions throughout the story. The romantic story line does a beautiful job of showing the depth of friendship in romance and the outcome is well worth the wait. Lastly, Perkins description of working in a library and the literary world is spot on.

"Overdue" follows Ingrid Dahl, a librarian in a smallish town, as her life totally changes during the last year of her 20s. She starts the year stuck in a long term relationship that is going nowhere and at a job she only mostly tolerates. On its surface it should (could?) be boring, but the execution is flawless and I was totally into it. Ingrid is an exceptionally well-drawn protagonist; even when she is meandering through and not making decisions, I found myself rooting for her rather than being frustrated. Her terse, protective work best friend Macon is wonderfully real too. All the characters are. I've always enjoyed Perkins's YA books and this first adult novel really shows how her highly readable writing style can translate to any genre.

Ingrid and her longtime boyfriend (11 years), Cory, decide to take a break from each other for a month to see what happens.
Ingrid is a librarian, and she works with Macon and wants to have a relationship with him during the 30 days.
It’s slow at the beginning of the book. I am giving it 3.5 stars.
Tropes: grump/sunshine, age gap, friends to lovers, small town romance
Thank you to NetGalley, and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What a joy to read an adult novel from Stephanie Perkins. Her YA series, starting with Anna and the French Kiss, remains one of my favorite series of all time. I was so pleased when I got to read Overdue early! I enjoyed the pacing of the novel and the growth of the characters (and the house!). Overall, I can’t wait to recommend this to friends. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the arc. I am so pleased to have read this.

I loved this sweet romanace story by Stephanie Perkins, who is a new author to me! Ingrid and Cory practically grew up together and have been a couple ever seen their late teens. They decide to take a break from each other for a month and date other people to make sure this is their meant to be rest of their life relationship. What follows is a sweet story of Ingrids ups and downs as she struggles with more then just her love life but her life in general. Such a sweet story, and I would love to read a follow up!

Such a cute romance by an author new to me and I hope to read more by her! I enjoyed this story of a couple who decide to take a dating break and find out what else is out there before returning to each other. You have to read it yourself to see what ends up happening to Ingrid and her boyfriend. I highly recommend this read!
