ADHD book tries to keep readers’ attention

I started reading Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Russell A. Barkley, PhD several days ago but this book is so full of words that I got bored real fast.
I was at first offended that this title’s publishing company, Guilford Press, designed this book by encasing some pages in an outlined gray box.
Any idiot who was diagnosed as clinically hyperactive in the early 1970s knows that the little box is some educated doctor’s way to getting the reader to keep his eyes in the box and on the words.
Ok, I admit that this little psychological trick works.
I mean, I remember having a real difficult time reading until seventh grade when the speed reading craze hit the classroom with these funny little projectors that took a page of text and highlighted one line at a time at sequentially faster and faster rates of speed.
And I admit that after that class I got a book marker and underlined each individual line as I read.
And I admit that after a while I didn’t fall asleep after five minutes – and ultimately learned that I needed glasses.
But still…..I forgot what I was talking about.

Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Russell A. Barkley, PhD is a book written for the ADHD adult. It is not only incredibly informative, it is also put together in a way that a person with ADHD can manage it. Taking Charge of Adult ADHD takes into consideration the personality traits of a person like myself – and of those with ADHD.
Information is put together in lists, bullets – and yes – boxed information that offers the reader a ‘change of scenery’ so to speak from the dull monotonous layout of a normally published book.
Its contents are well thought out and insightful. Taking Charge of Adult ADHD offers a place for those who think they might suffer from this affliction to feel at home.
Now. I wonder if this company is interested in writing a book about left-handed crazy creative people like me.
