I was really excited for this and was prepared to suspend my disbelief to immerse myself in the story, but it just ended up being too quirky, ridiculous, and unrealistic for my taste. This book will definitely the right audience, it just wasn’t the right book for me at the time I tried to read it!! I’m glad I tried it. I could see myself going back to it in the future.
It has zombies, vampires, lots of spicy & tension filled moments, and would be perfect for the Halloween season. I would recommend this to anyone looking for those vibes!

This book was AMAZING! I absolutely adore Olivia Dade and everything that she writes, but this has become my new favorite! Zombies, vampires, and plus sized badass FMC's- oh my! This book packed a punch from the very start. Edie has to save bro Chad... she couldn't live with herself if he died. So the book starts with her fighting off a zombie with the greatest weapon she has... a burrito. Obviously, this plan isn't well executed and she's SURE this is how she dies, but then in comes bro Chad to the rescue. Even better... he demands she joins him in his bunker for safety. This bunker though? Top notch. Very fancy. Soon Edie realizes bro Chad is more than he seems and that his name isn't even Chad. It's Gaston. Yes, GASTON! And Edie is sure to create movie quality songs about him with that name. Thus starts the romcom I never knew I needed. The touch her and you die vibes from Gaston have you immediately interested in learning more about him and why he so quickly ensured Edie's safety. This book had everything I wanted and more- it was funny and the tension with the main characters was PERFECT. Did I mention it also had my blood pumping because ZOMBIES?! I didn't want this book to end. If you want to deep belly laugh out loud AND cry- then this is the book for you. I cannot wait to reread this again. It has quickly become a top 2025 book for me!

I always enjoy Olivia Dade's writing. Her books are easy to read, and I love the plus-size representation! While this isn't my favourite from Olivia Dade, I thought this was a fun, quick read. The post-apocalyptic setting was interesting, as I haven't read many post-apocalyptic romances. I liked Edie, and I thought Max was a pretty good love interest. I didn't love how insta-lovey their relationship was, though, and I lost interest in the story around the middle and mostly skimmed from about 65% through the end. Overall, if you're looking for a post-apocalyptic vampire romance with plus-size representation and insta-love, you might enjoy this book.

Olivia Dade delivers exactly what the title promises: zombies, romance, and plenty of comedy. Edie and Max’s banter is sharp, their chemistry irresistible, and the mix of apocalypse chaos with swoony romance is pitch-perfect.

This is a light-hearted zombie dystopian future! There are dark themes about society breaking down, roaming groups of people and the constant threat of zombies but at the center is a humorous romance between two neighbors.

The title of this book really said it all!
It had the zombie vibes, the romcom aspect and serious laugh out loud moments! Very enjoyable book!

I'm someone that forces myself to finish a book even if I'm not vibing with a particular story. I really don't like to DNF books. In the case of this story, it was just really unavoidable for me. The primary reason being that it was overly descriptive.
I thought this was going to be such a highly rated book for me because the opening scene with the burrito was gold. It really did start off with the action, very reminiscent of zombie apocalypse shows/movies. I did quite enjoy that aspect. However, I really needed more dialogue from the characters. This is actually the first time I've ever encountered a problem like this, so I did try to continue and push through. The descriptions of literally everything just became too much for me and quite frankly it was distracting because I was more focused on when the next dialogue scene would pop up than the actual story. I don't know, it just felt like too much inner monologuing for me if that makes any sense? Not to mention, the dialogue that I did read felt very awkward to me.

This story has plenty to enjoy. The banter between Edie and Max is quick and fun, and the world they live in is interesting. The book mixes romance, horror, action, and comedy, though it doesn't always pull it off. Some emotional scenes feel a bit rushed, and sometimes the chemistry between Edie and Max gets lost in all the details and plot.
If you want a light adventure full of familiar tropes and a bit of the supernatural, this book is a good pick. It might not be the most original, but it has enough heart and humor to keep you entertained for a weekend.

A super cute, super fun romance book. I genuinely enjoyed the authors writing style and the way the story flowed.
Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the eARC

I loved the main characters but the supernatural bits were a little much for me. It was tough to keep up with the zombie stuff and also the romance. If you’re into supernatural, funny characters, then this one will be for you. Edie was funny and sweet, and her vampire man seemed like quite a catch also.

Zomromcom's premise first got me hooked. I've read some of Olivia Dade's work, so I knew that her banter would be right up my alley. However, I just couldn't really get into this book. From the jump, you're in the middle of a zombie outbreak with very little backstory. While I like the characters (and grumpy x sunshine is one of my favorite trope pairings), I found the romance a little too fast for my liking.
Overall, the writing is solid, but the lack of world building brings it down a little bit.
Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Who’s getting it on while zombies are running amok?! Idk but it just works. This book was SO fun and had me cracking up. Whenever Edie went off in song for Max, I couldn’t help a cackle. I loved the French speaking zombies and the foodstuff packed with preservatives (iykyk!) There was so much going on but it was paced perfectly especially with Max’ ego & sense of fashion.💅🏼 it was just an amazing time reading this book & sign me up expeditiously for book 2.

Such a fun read with a unique take on zombies! Not only that, but there's fun banter and a grumpy x sunshine dynamic. This was a quick read for me and while there was a background apocalyptic theme it was pretty lighthearted all things considered. I do think a bit more background and world building really would have brought this to the next level. Though the zombies are somewhat explained this was a key point that I was fairly confused about at times.

I wanted to like this one, it had a cute premise of a lady who fights zombies with her vampire neighbor. It started off okay and I switched to audio since I felt like it was moving sort of slow. The narrator pretty much yells the whole time as the FMC is yelling but after a little while it starts to make it hard to listen to. The story itself is slow pace and randomly they seem to decide they like each other. There are plenty of fun jokes but overall it was just hard for me to get into. I got to about 64% and I had no real need to continue on with the story. The characters felt static and it just wasn't for me.

Somehow the zombies are loose, her only neighbor- the recluse- isn’t what she thought, and a woman must step out of her guilty, grief-stricken past and come out swinging- a cleaver, no less- if she wants to survive. Olivia Dade has plunged into the paranormal romance genre with both feet and lots of her signature sassy humor.
Edie’s world changed twenty years back when a government experiment went wrong and the zombies they created got loose and slaughtered her parents and nearly everyone else who lived inside the walled containment zone- and, oh, all things supernatural came out of the closet and announced their existence, too. Since then, Edie has clung to her family home inside the closest walled zone to the underground zombie containment, seeing her soap-making business take off, and occasionally looking askance at her neighbor, Chad, the weirdo crank next door.
But this all changes when the zombies get loose once again, no alarms go off, and her heroic attempt to save the oblivious Chad’s life with a tin-foil wrapped burrito- don’t ask- lands her hiding out with Chad and learning his real name and a whole lot more. How did the secure system locking down the zombies and the fail safes protecting humans and everyone else not work? This couldn’t have been an accident and Edie needs to do what she can to save others- not like the last time when she hid and people she loved died horrifically. Chad, ahem, Max takes some persuading that sticking their necks out for others is a good idea, but he won’t let her go it alone since her survival time would be seconds against that zombie pack and though he says he doesn’t care about anyone, but himself- he won’t let her go it alone.
ZomRomCom starts with an exciting and hilarious opening scene and then steps back for a little explanation of the world and the characters. Comedy is the equal of the paranormal romance as the situation for Edie and Max becomes clearer. Max is something of an enigma for much of the books though its obvious that he’s all talk and trying to protect himself because he’d been hurt in the past. Edie’s not typically a leap before she looks person, but when it comes to the zombies, she can’t be rational. She’s got a huge case of survivor’s guilt because she’s alive because her parents sacrificed themselves to protect her.
I liked seeing this pair gel as a team even as they worked out what was going on and what they could do about it. Most of the book because of the strong dose of humor feels less thriller and more cozy, but the zombies are a big threat- agile with low-level cunning. I enjoyed how Edie seems to make friends and they bring together a rag-tag team of humans and supernaturals to combat the zombie threat. The climax was huge and a nail biter.
ZomRomCom ends on a satisfactory note, but shows where the series will go and who will get their story next. I’m hooked and will eagerly pick up the next Supernatural Entanglements’ book. Those who like their PNR laced with lusty humor need to put this perky zombie rom com on their book stack.

Thank you so much to Berkeley for the ARC and my apologies for not getting my review in sooner. Zomromcom was a fun read, I love a paranormal romance and zombies, and found it cozy and amusing. I wish there was a bit more world building but the humor and dialogue made up for it. I will definitely be reading more Olivia Dade and recommending this book for my paranormal romance readers this fall!

I really wanted to like this one - I love the idea of a plus size main character. I don't know if it was the type of book, or the writing, but either way it wasn't for me. Maybe I just don't like zombie books? I wouldn't tell anyone not to read it, I think the style just was not meant for me. The overuse of colloquial language took me out of the story, and it was just weird? A sheepskin thong, really? I cringed through most of what I was able to read. I had to DNF unfortunately after just a few chapters. but am rating what I read 2 stars objectively based on the writing. It was rough.
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“Well. Maybe he wasn’t in his earlyish twenties after all. And maybe he wasn’t an elf or a fae either, as she had been theorizing all evening. His refrigerator contained nothing but blood bags. Discreetly packaged, of course, but definitely unmistakably blood bags. Not-Chad- her closest neighbor, the guy with whom she was currently locked in an underground lair- was a freaking vampire.”
I always appreciate Olivia Dade’s attempts at trying something different, and the way she represents plus-size women in the romance genre. Still, the execution on this book was extremely poor. In a paranormal romance, I expect some semblance of world-building or at least providing me with enough information that I can understand what is going on. Zomromcom throws you into a zombie attack immediately, with no context on how we arrived at this post-apocalyptic world. Plus, for being a world with zombies, things seem pretty normal except for the zombies. Maybe I’ve watched too much Resident Evil, but I was expecting the world to be a little worse off.
That aside, the dialogue was cringeworthy. I found the banter between Max and Edie to be strange and juniorish, which rubbed me the wrong way, as Edie is supposed to be in her late thirties. Some parts made me laugh, but they were few and far between. After suspending reality enough to be okay with the lack of world-building and the hodgepodge of mystical beings, she throws insta-love into the mix with these two characters. It just didn’t work. I want some meat and potatoes to the couple’s romance. I adore it when we get to see how they fell in love in the moments they are together, and I really missed that here. It’s in those little moments when I can connect with their relationship and really root for them. I also think Max should have had some more reservations because Edie is human, and he should feel more conflicted regarding their relationship, but apparently it’s easy peasy lemon squeezy in his world. Overall, this was a big miss for me.
If you enjoyed paranormal romances by authors like Ali Hazelwood and Kimberly Lemming then maybe give this one a try. It may work better for you than it did for me.

this was a fun read! A great book for people who want a paranormal read for Halloween but not too spooky. The romance was cute and steamy and overall it was funny.

This was a fun read! Definitely enjoyed reading this to get into the fall/spooky mood. I loved the humor.
