There are so many quirks and aspects to love about this book! This storyline has all of my niche interests rolled into one: the setting and cityscape of Attack on Titan, with concentric walls surrounding a major city; ALL the monsters and supernatural creatures that are found in True Blood; millennial-coded jokes and running gags that had me giggling out loud; and terrifyingly fast, brain eating zombies, the likes found in 28 Days Later. All these contribute to a romp of a story! Now all that being said, this book was a bit off the mark for me. The romance cadence just didn’t seem to be as balanced or as intriguing as the rest of the plot elements. There’s an almost immediate intimacy between our FMC and heroic MMC, and it was just missing a drawn out yearning. I realized it diminishes all of the great aspects of this book, because I could not relate or believe the romance that was rapidly unfolding. I wish the intimacy was delayed more, as I really enjoyed all other aspects of the storyline itself, especially the comedy aspect! Thank you to Olivia Dade, NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for this ARC!

This book was so much fun. I absolutely loved Edie - she’s lived through a literal nightmare and is still witty, optimistic and a total badass. And Chad (also known as Max…but really Gaston…Edie’s verses of the Disney song are worth the read alone), who is the snarkiest, most honest, also hilarious vampire. And the cast of characters the come across to battle the zombies are all excellent too. There is a lot of funny, silly humor in here. For me it balanced the intense literal zombie hunting perfectly well. And the serious moments between Edie and Max were all the more heartfelt in the midst of humor and gore. But that ending?? When is the sequel?

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC

This book had so much potential to be a really fun book but it was unfortunately hindered by the fact that the author did not let the weirdness of her book be explored above surface level, in passing. This world could have been the background to a really cool story but we weren't given enough of it to fully appreciate it and it left me feeling as though we were getting told information on a whim and that it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Example: the no soulmark scene - soulmarks were never mentioned at all up until this point and we don't even get enough detail to appreciate it. And don't get me started on how the unveiling of all the nonhuman beings that exist in this book is handled. I felt like I was being gaslit by the author throughout the first 150 pages of this book which is so disappointing because this was one of my most anticipated reads for 2025 and I usually really enjoy Olivia Dade's books. Overall, this was just a big disappointment.

This book was so much fun !
It is book is set in a post zombie-apocalypse.
Zombies are supposed to be safe now until
A breach occurs ,

I lived the Romance and felt like the jokes were on point !

Characters were well written and fleshed out .

Ahhhh a cliff hanger , so I hope there will be another book in the series.

Highly enjoyable!

*3,5 rounded up

this book is set in a post zombie-apocalypse world, where zombies are now supposedly contained. when a breach occurs, the characters are faced with tough choices about their survival and the survival of their neighbors.

this was a fun read (although some jokes got a little tired after the third repetition) and had a good zombie appearance ratio for me (who is not a zombie fan). however, i thought the romance had little development from knowing each other to being in love forever, and the ending was super abrupt. i understand ending in a cliffhanger, since it’s a series, but this felt like there were paragraphs missing.

This book was a hilarious, heartwarming, and delightfully undead surprise! I didn’t expect to laugh this hard in a zombie apocalypse, but ZomRomCom delivers the perfect blend of humor, horror, and heart. The romance was quirky and adorable, the zombie chaos kept things exciting, and the banter? Top tier. If you're into love stories with bite (literally), this one is a must-read. Totally un-dead-ably charming!

I really wanted to love this book. Fat representation vampires and zombies. How could it not be amazing. It’s supposed to be a romantic comedy. The comedy is definitely there. Edie was funny and lighthearted. Max’s dry humor/not hipness made me giggle. Romantic comedy not so much. The romance went from non existence to basically insta love. Maybe if it was dual pov it would have worked better but it was very much lacking in building the romance.
Also the world building was weak. I didn’t know it was the beginning of the series going into it but still as a first book trying to build a world it seemed all over the place.
The side characters were almost more enjoyable than Edie and Max. I’m not sure if I would continue the series.

This book is just oodles of fun yet steamy zombie killing adventures. I really like how quick we get into the action and the banter between our leads is so good.

Zomromcom is exactly as wild and ridiculous as the title promises and I mean that in the best way. It’s a chaotic, LOL mashup of zombies, vampires, and romance with a surprising amount of heart and even a bit of gore. Edie, our burrito-wielding FMC, finds herself unexpectedly entangled with Max, a brooding vampire who enters the scene in a literal sheepskin thong. What follows is a zombie conspiracy, a string of hilarious and oddly touching moments, and a slow burn that is worth the wait. The banter? Sharp. The apocalypse meal names? Hysterical. And Max’s total deadpan delivery of the most unhinged lines? Chef’s kiss.

I especially loved that Edie is a curvy woman in her late 30s and it’s treated as… normal. No body shame, no need to prove her worth, she’s out here saving the day and falling for a vampire while doing it. That kind of representation felt so refreshing. My only minor gripe is that the emotional connection between Edie and Max developed a bit too quickly to fully believe, but hey, maybe near a zombie compound, love moves faster. This book doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither should you. It’s weird, fun, and a total vibe.

Zombie outbreak? I totally get it.
A vampire added to the mix? Hmm.. maybe I can get past that.
Fae & witches randomly contributing to the plot? You lost me there.

I'd say this was truly hilarious to begin with. The romance, banter, & the setting was comedic even when the MCs were surrounded by zombies.
Edie & Max had a grumpy × sunshine thing going on with a lot of sizzling steam, as one can expect from Olivia Dade. I found the nicknames that Max gave Edie to be really cute.

This book is filled with silliness & occasional eye-rolling moments. Read if you're in mood for something light.

Thank you Berkley for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

This cute little story had me giggling and crying! I love Edie and I love the references to the 90s. A quick read about an unlikely duo trying to save the world.
You’re plunged into Edie’s world where zombies and other supernatural beings exist and the first thing she does is attack a zombie with a burrito. How iconic. I love Edie and her sassy personality and her resolve to be the nicest human she can despite the world she lives in. I also appreciate her dedication to food lol.
Edie and her neighbor’s zombie killing adventures are comical but they make quite the effective team. The characters they meet along the way are funny and genuine and I only wish we’d had more time with them. Hopefully many will be featured in the next installment of the Supernatural Entanglements Series.

Here’s the changes I made: This book? Unhinged. Hilarious. Hot. And I was so here for it. Zom Romcom is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud, action-packed delight that reads like a B-movie fever dream—in the best possible way. There are zombies (obviously), but also vampires, demons, witches, trolls, and more paranormal beings—all causing chaos, cracking jokes, and occasionally making out. Olivia Dade balances it all with her signature charm and wit.

Edie and Max are the kind of main characters that make you want to jump into the book and third-wheel their apocalypse. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the slow-burn tension (mixed with life-or-death stakes and actual explosions) only makes their romance hotter. One moment they’re dodging zombies with a grudge, the next they’re locked in a heated stare that had me blushing.

And then there’s that twist. I gasped. Legit had to flip back and reread to make sure I didn’t miss something. So smart, so satisfying.

Oh—and don’t even get me started on the Gaston references. I will never hear that song the same way again. It’s living in my head on a loop, and frankly? I’m not mad about it. 😆

If you’re looking for a wild, steamy, ridiculously fun paranormal romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously (but still delivers all the feels), Zom Romcom is your next must-read. Just maybe don’t read it in public unless you’re okay with cackling loudly in front of strangers.

Meet Edie, a burrito wielding-slash-custom soap maker-slash-zombie fighter alongside Max, her fashion influencing vampire neighbor who begrudgingly comes along to save her neighbors because if all of humanity dies, he will too.

Their witty banter and chemistry make them a team you are rooting to beat the zombies. She’s charming and has a heart of gold for everyone, while he’s got the ego as large as a you’d expect from an immortal. She’s the sunshine that sings made up disney lyrics to the song Gaston and he’s the grump that has to defiantly (and lovingly) listen to it.

I wanted to love you Zomromcom. At times I liked you.
I feel like the writing sacrificed flow and clarity in exchange for cramming jokes every other paragraph. And, to be honest, the humor just wasn’t my cup of tea. I liked the characters but was equally exasperated by them. It’s hard to take anything seriously when our main character’s pov isn’t taking anything seriously. It could just be a preference thing.
I’d still recommend it to lighthearted book readers for its originality.

Edie is living in a world post zombie apocalypse, in a neighborhood adjacent to the last zombie stronghold. Most of the surrounding houses have been deserted following the last zombie escape leaving her with a lone neighbor, Chad, more interested in food and partying. After defending Chad from certain death with a burrito, Edie's world takes a turn when she finds out 1. the zombies have escaped their prison and 2. Chad isn't really a bro, he's a centuries old vampire named Max. Buckle in for Edie and Max stop the next zombie apocalypse.
I want to start by saying, I'm an Olivia Dade stan. This book joins her others in feeling like an early 2000's rom com in a book. I love the dynamic that she created between Edie and Max, it was fun and sweet and believable, even with a zombie apocalypse occurring in the background. There were cute moments, there was adventure, and there were a few good twists and turns. I always enjoy Olivia's books and this one was no exception. I also think this was a great addition to the paranormal romance genre and a good entry book into what I'm assuming will be a series of interconnected standalones.

Olivia Dade's writing is really hit or miss for me which is something I forgot after really *really* enjoying her 3 most recent books. An issue I've had in some of her previous works is that I will feel a disconnect between the writing style/voice and the word choice, it will feel like words were randomly swapped out with cooler sounding ones pulled from a thesaurus. I don't know why I have this issue with only some of her works but it was definitely the case for Zomromcom.

Other than the writing, the story itself was just doing too much for me. I signed up for a fun paranormal zombie killing romp which this story definitely is, but it also was talking a loooot about youtube and content creation and getting in the weeds of that in a way that I just wasn't having fun with.

The final nail in the coffin for me was that the humor wasn't landing, there were scenes where I knew I should be giggling or smiling about but that I just found bland or annoying.

I'm bummed I didn't like this but ultimately it wasn't for me.

This was my least favorite Olivia Dade read to date. I’m a big fan of her work and I love the paranormal romance genre, but I felt the world building lacked conciseness and the characters were hard to relate to or like. Typically she does a dual POV for her romances and not having that POV really made a difference because I really disliked her MMC. I found the FMC incredibly annoying. There were so many repetitive jokes and lines that I’m sure were hilarious to other people but I just couldn’t get into it. I found the writing in this to be the weakest and even with a cliffhanger I don’t care enough to read the sequel. Incredibly bummed. I think a cozy fantasy where she’s able to lean into that romance aspect while not taking away from a high-stakes fantasy plot would fit her writing style really well.

🎧 ARC + ALC from Berkley Romance & PRH Audio (Thank you)

Listen… this book is exactly what the title promises…a zombie romantic comedy with chaotic charm, undead antics, and surprisingly sweet moments. I had a great time.
Between Edie (our delightfully deadpan leading lady), Max/Chad/Gaston (you’ll understand when you get there), and a whole cast of quirky weirdos, it’s impossible not to have fun. I even found myself chuckling out loud, which isn’t easy to pull off these days.

Don’t overthink it. Just toss it straight onto your fall TBR and enjoy the zombie shenanigans with your favorite sweet treat in hand.

Tropes & Vibes:
• Small town chaos
• Satirical celeb culture
• Cinnamon roll love interest
• Found family (but undead)
• Genuinely laugh-out-loud moments
• Autumn vibes & Halloween backdrop

Would I recommend?
Absolutely. This is a cozy spooky-season read for romcom lovers who want a little bite with their banter. Olivia Dade’s signature warmth and wit will not disappoint.

ARC Review: Zomromcom by Olivia Dade
Pub Date: August 5, 2025

Thank you to @berkleyromance for the eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

You guys this book is SO FUN!! I had just an absolute romp of a time reading it and seeing what would happen next.

This book follows Edie, who finds herself in the midst of a zombie breech with only her "bro dude" of a neighbor as a companion...or so she thinks - she soon finds that Gaston "Max" Boucher has been putting on a persona and is actually a very old and very grumpy vampire who knows a thing or two about killing zombies. Edie is determined to alert authorities to the zombie breech and Max just can't seem to let her do that alone. As they try to figure out how to survive, they also try to figure out their feelings for each other.

While I can understand this book certainly will not be for every reader, I just had a blast! It's one of those books that you absolutely need to turn off your brain to read - you are just plopped into the world and have to figure out the world building as you go. In a book like this, I really prefer that versus a huge info dump. This book was also so funny particularly given that there's a zombie apocalypse happening at the same time. I just loved the silliness of it all.

Listen - does the world here always make a ton of sense? Not really! But it just did not matter to me whatsoever. This is a world full of zombies, vampires, fae, trolls, witches, elves, and beyond. It really didn't have to make sense!

So if you can turn your brain off and just enjoy the ride, I highly recommend! It's really a blast and the humor was perfect for my mood at the time.

While I did love the witty banter and comedy of this story, something about it didn’t check all the boxes for me. I did enjoy the premise and idea, but felt something was missing to make me fully love the characters their love story was choppy and questionable at times.
