Thanks to Netgally and those involved for the arc!

Olivia Dade does it again, folks. Her witty humor, charm, and sexy characters all fold into one little zombie clocking burrito of a book that had me laughing the whole way through.

The main duo is a classic optimistic/cynic pairing both wielding passion and trauma from their past in (relatively) realistic ways. I mean, how realistic can a vampire be. But Edie and Gaston/Chad/Max truly had a dynamic that worked.

It brought humor and light to this otherwise relatively depressing world. Living in a world constantly in fear of something right outside your doorstep is a dismal existence to be sure.

Is the Romance fast? Absolutely. Forced Proximity at its finest. But im a sucker for "he falls first and harder" type stories so I was all in. Max didnt fool me for a second with his "I don't care about you" vampiric bs.

I also simply appreciate Olivia Dade for her continued inclusion of plus sized main characters, and how they aren't all the same type of plus sized. They all have different features and assets unique to them, and are idolized for them instead of being shamed for them. I also appreciate that Edie isnt ashamed of herself at all (which she shouldn't be). Being a plus sized woman is just simply who she is, and she's okay with that.

I am excited for the inevitable sequel. And not just because I live Olivia Dade novels. This world was fun to learn about as we moved along the plot and I look forward to seeing how Edie, Max, and the Merry Men of supporting cast members handles the outcome of the ending (no spoilers. Go read it yourself when it comes out).

Absolutely hilarious, this books had me laughing out loud nearly every chapter. It has everything; zombies, vampires, fae, witches and magic. Grumpy/sunshine is my all time favorite trope and these charters are perfect, highly recommend for a late summer or fall read!

Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

Edie Brandstrup was having a pretty good day, until she noticed her frat boy neighbor, Chad, about to get chomped by the first Zombie she's seen in the neighborhood in years. As she runs to save him, with only a foil wrapped burrito, she quickly finds she's being saved by him and his Really Big sword instead. Thus begins one of my favorite romcom's in decades. Edie and Gaston "Max" Boucher (yes, Gaston NOT Chad) take refuge at his place to wait out the current attack. Edie quickly find out that Max is actually a super old and super good looking vampire...and he's been secretly keeping her safe and protected for years. Who can resist? Now the two begin to uncover a very sinister plot to release the remaining zombies on the population, so the two unlikely heroes must try to save the world. But what happens when they start falling for each other at the same time?

Oliva Dade smashed this book out of the park. It is hilarious, spicy, action packed and chock full of amazing versions of the Gaston song. Trust me, you want to sing all of them out loud. I can only bet the audio book is going to be great. Some of the lines in this were so good, even besides the Gaston songs...like Edie "Curling up like a humiliated shrimp." Such a great simile. I requested this novel without actually reading the description and I was not sad. Not only did I get a grumpy/sunshine pairing with a vampire to boot, but I was also overjoyed with a plus sized heroine and a cast of post-apocalypse survivors who were equal parts scary and delightful. Given where this story ended, I look forward to the next.

I didn’t know what to expect with this book and it was craziness and witty banter lol.
I really loved Edie and Max’s chemistry and just how they would bounce things off of each other, then he’s a vampire and everything gets even better. All of the singing had me dying of laughter, thank you for the opportunity to read this book and I’ll definitely be telling people about it.

I absolutely loved the banter between Max and Edie! Her sarcasm and his brooding was just absolutely comical. I honestly did not expect to enjoy this book, but it was surprisingly amazing. I laughed SO much while reading this. I also teared up during one moment. This book was EASILY 5 stars for me. Hysterical, smutty with a bit of suspense. All the great vibes with amazing characters to back it up!

I received this ARC from NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

I LOVE Olivia Dade’s books and this one was no exception. It might actually be my favorite of hers so far.

Not only does the story include Zombies, and everyone is living in a post zombie war world, but it has come to light that all other supernatural beings you didn’t think existed actually do. Fae, vampires, witches, trolls, all of them have a place in this brave new world.

This book made me laugh, constantly. I was constantly finding myself chuckling at Edie and Max’s antics. Between her way of getting under his skin and his feigned annoyance and condescension they were the perfect, hilarious, pair. Despite Max’s attempted indifference, despite Edie’s fears, I loved watching them together so freaking much.

And I really loved watching Edie charm everyone along the way. She was sweet and caring and truly just wanted everyone to be ok.

As usual, the plus sized representation was spot on in the book. It’s one of my favorite things about Dade’s writing.

And we’re definitely getting a sequel about this ragmatag bunch, which is thrilling.

This book made me realize that as an author you can literally build your world whoever you want. I loved how many supernatural creatures and beings were canon in this book, it made everything so much more interesting not to mention its taking place during a zombie apocalypse, and the zombies themselves are genetically engineered creatures that the government lost control of. The banter between the two MCs literally kept me giggling and kicking my feet. In general this book made me laugh so much. I just had so much fun reading and I can’t wait to continue this series!

Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the chance to review this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I really, really wanted to like this book, especially since I’ve loved every other work by Olivia Dade. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into this one. Despite the high stakes of a zombie apocalypse, the overall tone felt somewhat too cozy and lighthearted given the dire circumstances.

The world-building didn’t unfold quickly enough for me. I struggled to grasp how life functioned in this new reality full of vampires, zombies, and any other supernatural being you could imagine, which left me feeling disoriented as I encountered each new aspect of the world.

Love love love a plus size FMC and there was so much promise in Edie. She was funny and relatable, but I found myself wanting more chemistry between her and Max. And Max. Oh Max. I wanted to love you. I’m here for a protective vampy love interest but he was somehow too mysterious and not mysterious enough. The reveal of his outfit when he first appears was hilarious and so intriguing! But he was so stoic, any affection for Edie came out of nowhere.

I love the idea, there was just something missing for me in this one.

I really wanted to love this story but I kept losing interest :( it was a fun plot idea but I have a feeling I was just in a slump. I hope to revisit this eventually before it releases!

Zomromcom follows Edie, who jumps in to save her human neighbor during a sudden zombie breach, only to find out he’s actually a grumpy, centuries-old vampire named Max. He insists on keeping her safe in his bunker, but Edie refuses to sit back while others are in danger. As they work together to stop a sinister plot behind the zombie attacks, they find unexpected allies and even more unexpected feelings. Amid all the chaos, Edie and Max’s connection grows, forcing them to face whether love is worth the risk in such a dangerous world. This was such a good book and kept me engaged the whole way through. It was a super cute romance with a fun and different setting that made it so entertaining to read. So fun!

I always enjoy Olivia Dade’s romances, and this is no exception! It’s an action-packed zombie-slaying romance, and Dade does a great job of combining the supernatural horror and romcom elements to make an engaging story. Definitely be aware that there are lots of zombies, and a fare amount of danger and gore, so it’s not going to be for everyone. But Dade is so good at crafting romances, I could totally buy into Edie and her handsome and seemingly vapid neighbor falling for one another once they get thrust into a very scary zombie attack.

The book has a satisfying ending, while also giving us a good sett up for the next in the series — I’m definitely looking forward to it! Recommended for fans of paranormal romance, as well as those new to the genre.

The thing I love about every Olivia Dade book is the authenticity. You can tell she has fun writing and really loves every book she writes. With this one in particular, it was such a fun, campy ode to paranormal romance. I think Dade managed to throw together just about every single paranormal romance trope in one big I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-falafel melting pot, which might not be everybody’s jam, but I loved it. I do think the quirkiness of the characters might have been a bit much at times- fighting off zombies with a burrito, hiding out from zombies in an abandoned pottery barn, the main character frequently bursts into song to tease the love interest, and the love interest has an underground batcave-esque lair. It can be a lot, but that’s part of the fun. The plot and action scenes were a bit choppy, but I really admire Dade for her ambitiousness with her first paranormal romance, and I’m looking forward to a potential sequel! Grateful to Olivia Dade & NetGalley for the eARC!

I couldn't get past the writing style. I really wanted to enjoy this book, I just couldn't get into it.

ZomRomCom by Olivia Dade is a fun, silly, and cozy paranormal romcom that leans all the way into its title. Right from the first chapter, you’re dropped into a post–zombie apocalypse world and introduced to Edie—a burrito-wielding pacifist who accidentally saves her super-bro-y neighbor “Chad” from a zombie attack. What follows is an unlikely team-up as Edie enlists Chad’s help to warn other zones about a potential zombie breakthrough.

The banter between Edie and Chad is hilarious and brings a lot of levity to a plot that, on paper, is all about saving people from a zombie invasion. Their dynamic plays with a quasi-grumpy-meets-sunshine trope, and I was definitely into it. We love an elder vamp who wants nothing more than to protect their human obsession— hello Edward Cullen vibes!

Edie and the zany supporting cast of supernatural characters were easily my favorite part. The plot gets increasingly ridiculous in the best way possible, and the world-building is totally vibes-based, but for a fluffy paranormal romcom, that worked for me. You just have to be ready to go along for the ride and not take it too seriously. Also, based on the ending, I think this will be a series, which is fun!

Overall, this was a fun read, even if it wasn’t a personal favorite. If you’re new to Olivia Dade’s work, I highly recommend checking out her Spoiler Alert series. I'm obsessed with all three of the FMCs in those books! I think what Olivia Dade does best is mix romance with nerdiness, so if you're into that, you'll love her writing.

This book was, in a word, just plain fun. I didn't know what to expect with a PNR from an author widely known and loved for her contemporary romances but this was, in typical Olivia Dade fashion, witty and fun, engaging and joyful and imbued with her trademark warmth and humor even as it made some pretty interesting social commentary regarding a fictional world filled with supernatural beings that felt oddly parallel to our real world.

I adored the two MCs, Edie had a really traumatic backstory and was desperate to find meaning in her parents' sacrifice, not realizing that she herself was the meaning and reason and legacy. And Max, er, Gaston, or Chad, whatever he chooses to go by, was truly one of a kind, an egotistical vampire with a secret soft heart that solely beat for Edie. I adored their banter and romance and the way they were all too willing to put themselves repeatedly in harms way to protect the other.

I really enjoyed the world Olivia built in this first book and the cast of characters she introduced and I can't wait to see how the story unfolds in the next book.

She brought a burrito to a zombie fight.
He brought three centuries of repressed desire.
Together?
Apocalypse’s hottest disaster duo.

Zomromcom is undead perfection—sharp, steamy, and laugh-out-loud funny. Olivia Dade delivers a delightfully unhinged paranormal romance that balances laugh-out-loud moments with emotional depth and sizzling open-door chemistry.
Edie is the ultimate heroine: plus-size, prickly, and full of chaotic heart, while Max (a.k.a. Gaston, a.k.a. Chad) is a brooding vampire who’s equal parts lethal and lovesick. From tablecloth cuddles in abandoned malls to lye-based zombie traps and blood-soaked sacrifices, this book is a wild, romantic ride.
If Warm Bodies and Spoiler Alert had a very spicy baby raised by What We Do in the Shadows, it would be Zomromcom. I need book two yesterday.

✨ Review ✨ Zomromcom by Olivia Dade

Thanks to Berkley and #netgalley for the gifted advanced copy/ies of this book!

This was such a delightfully fun, campy zombie-vampire adventure. I laughed so much - Edie’s processed foods, Max’s modeling clothes, the many iterations of the Gaston song - so ridiculously funny and unserious!

The story centers on Edie and her neighbor Max ("Gaston") and their attempts to flee from a zombie breech and seek help. It was a little long and meandering, but I still loved it all. To top it off, in classic Dade fashion, she provides us with an epic plus-size FMC, and Edie’s the plus-size loveable zombie-hunter of my dreams.

If you love paranormal romance that doesn't take itself too seriously, give this one a whirl!

Thank you, Netgalley and Berkley Publishing, for the chance to read and go on this fun ah adventure.

There was so much going on and so much happening. In a good way. This kept me thoroughly entertained.

First: PLUS SIZE FMC FTW. I love reading about fmcs that are my size. 😊

The banter in this was excellent, IMO. I loved the silliness and the back and forth between the two. After all...NO...ONE...(*Max screeching in the background*).

This world is...different. It seems confusing at first, but things get explained as you read, and things make more sense as you go.

The plot was a fun mix of things. Apocalypse, Supernatural, Action, Romance, Comedy, even a little Found Family.

And Edie and Max's romance? I fell in love with them. I want to be their third, that's how much I love them.

From the moment the burrito-wielding heroine launches herself at an attacking zombie, this steamy speculative rom com delivers! The banter sparkles, the sexy blood-drinking sizzles, and the grounded character motivations keep this novel as relatable and resonant as Dade's non-speculative work. The open ending that hints at a sequel is icing on the cake. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a hilariously spicy fall read!
