This was certainly a book that I read. I’ve never read Olivia Dade before so I didn’t necessarily know what I was getting myself into. I felt like the plot/dialogue was trying to be ridiculously funny but instead it felt very juvenile but with a fair amount of smut thrown in.

I actually really enjoyed the setting the book was in. A post-apocalyptic world where zombies are actually supersoldiers that were genetically fucked up to fight the supernatural creatures that popped up (vampires, werewolves, fae, etc.). I feel like that is a very unique storyline that I haven’t seen before.

Despite the unique world building, the delivery was not my favorite. The two main characters fell in love way too quickly for my liking and were way too horny for one another with little chemistry in my opinion. The side cast of characters weren’t as developed as I would’ve liked them to be, though I admit I am used to more in depth/longer fantasies where the reader has more time to fall in love with side characters.

Overall, I felt like this was a quick read with some funny parts, but might not be something that I would recommend or continue as it is a series.

<i>Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!</i>

this had me giggling start to finish. A romcom with supernatural characters...... immediately yes. The banter and quirky characters were top tier, so incredibly entertaining! also side note, who doesn't love a little plus size rep ON THE COVER?!

Overall super entertaining and would definitely recommend to readers that aren't too critical about plot structure and just want to have a 10/10 enjoyable read.

I usually love Olivia Dade’s books but this was definitely a flop compared to her other stories. I wanted to enjoy it but there was too much going on with not enough follow through. It felt like they were throwing every supernatural being, pop culture reference, and very cringey side plots at the wall, just hoping that one would stick and make this book enjoyable.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the wonderful opportunity to read this amazing book before its official release!

Disclaimer for other readers: I read purely for vibes and I super vibes with this book. I hope anybody that picks up this book after me enjoys it as much as I did if not more.

If you're looking for supernatural romance with a bit of mystery, a lot of humor, and a wide range of characters this book is it. Look no further because Zomromcom is one of the absolute best. The bees knees. Bees knees covered in glitter. From the first chapter alone Zomromcom cemented itself on my list of most enjoyable reads that I truly wished wouldn't end and immediately want to reread.
The romance didn't have me kicking my feet and giggling but Max's name is going to go on my list of the best book boyfriends for expressing his feelings through actions more than words.
Where the romance was a little lacking, the humor more than made up for it with the best references in the right spots at the right time. Every little joke and callback to something great was put to great use and made the book 10 times more enjoyable.
I can't wait to see how the mystery unravels and what other adventures of unfortunateness the characters will experience. Thank you so much for this great read, Olivia Dade!

This is a delightful and fun read. There is some really fun banter and humor between our main characters and they have a great dynamic together, and there definitely is a quirky feel, but at times it felt like it was almost overly done trying to be too wacky.

The beginning felt somewhat choppy and fragmented, and though we're given some world building I still found myself with questions, but since this is supposed to be a fun romcom it gets a pass and I just read it for the vibes. And the story does flow better as it progresses.

This was a fun read at some points but it mostly fell flat for me. I didn't feel like Max and Edie had any real chemistry and the comedy parts got a little repetitive (such as singing the Gaston song, it was fine the first 2 times but I lost count how many times it happened now and got annoying). The Characters in general were fairly bland, except I did enjoy Edie's quirkiness. But the side characters were introduced so fast that I lost track of who was who. I didn't know what to fully expect from a zombie romcom but I was excited for this.

Absolutely Loved Zom Romcom!

Olivia Dade has officially become a new favorite fantasy romcom author for me with Zom Romcom! This book was everything I didn’t know I needed—sharp, hilarious, and full of heart.

The banter between the main characters was next-level exceptional. Every interaction crackled with wit, chemistry, and charm. I found myself laughing out loud and grinning through entire chapters.

I adored that the story centered on a confident, complex, plus-size FMC. It’s so refreshing to see representation handled with authenticity and love. The MMC was such an egotistical delight—his arrogance was written in a way that somehow made him irresistible, and watching his walls come down was one of the best parts of the book.

The world itself was such a treat—familiar yet altered, full of quirky pop culture references that made it feel alive and just a little unhinged in the best way. I didn’t want it to end!

If you’re looking for a romcom that blends fantasy, humor, and swoon-worthy romance with a big dash of snark, this is it. Highly recommend!

Have I said how much I enjoy (and devour) Olivia Dade's books? No? Let me continue.

I had such an amazing time reading this. I love that Olivia has dipped her fingers into the urban fantasy realm but keeping true to herself and what she writes best. I really didn't know what to think when I got the ARC for this book - I was deep into my Last of Us binge watching but I knew that this wasn't going to be that. This was what I think Warm Bodies would be if Warm Bodies were for an adult audience (and with vampires).

While writing this review, I saw someone describe this book as "here for a good time, not for a long time" and honestly I could not agree more. This was such a fun read that I will be recommending it to everyone. Prepare to get sick of me (but not in a zombie way).

Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and Olivia Dade for the ARC!

3.5 stars. This may well be one of the daftest books I've ever read! So a government facility creating zombies as super soldiers (honestly the most believable part of the entire story) suffers a breach and many people who live in the surrounding area are murdered before the army or whoever can put the zombies back (because they don't want to destroy their investment of course!). Twenty years later, enter Edie, a soapmaker - she lives just outside the zombie prison because her parents were brutally murdered in their family home and she wanta to keep hold of her memories of her family. Being ripped apart. In the house she lives in. Anyway, there is a ridiculously hot guy called Chad who lives across the road from her (despite nobody living within about 5 miles because ZOMBIES. So when zombies escape from their confinement zone (because of course they've just been hanging around for the last 20 years) they turn uo at Edie and Chad's street and she tries to save his life with a burrito.

It turns out Chad is not in fact a dudebro but an ancient vampire. Who is madly in love with his soapy neighbour. Then witches and other supernatural beings appear.

It was entertaining but I found the "banter" between the two main characters really awkward and the sex scenes quite cringe. Of course this old vampire is apparently the god of sex so expect multiple orgasms and wanting to wash your eyes after reading.

All in all, not enough Zombies, romance that was insta love (no thank you) and the "com" was very basic and not funny to me.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked some of the quirky stuff and the suspense of the story kept me engaged. There were some parts of the book that I thought were random and strange. Like her singing that one song that was making fun of Max...it got old after a while.

Maybe this book wasn't for me. I am not someone who likes a lot of paranormal books and there were too many different species in this book for me to keep track of. I think fans of paranormal romance books will enjoy this one.

And who doesn't like a vampire sex scene? The sensuality of the vampire drinking the partner's blood always makes for a different twist to spice things up!

Thanks Net Galley for the eARC for an honest review.

Zomromcom is a cozy, grumpy/sunshine paranormal romance sprinkled with humor and a nice amount of spice. I really liked the plot premise and the plus size representation but the world building felt really rushed and some of the dialogue and banter was off putting.

I found this book to be less RomCom and more action/adventure Rom…but that doesn’t have as nice of ring to it.
Olivia Dade shines when it comes to character interactions and banter. I loved the dynamic between the two main characters, and even enjoyed all the side characters they were introduced.
Where this book fell flat to me was the world building, I felt the set up of the zombies and how the zones were explained to be clunky and overly complicated. The most disappointing part to me was the quickness/insta love of the main characters, I just couldn’t buy into their love story.

Thank you to Berkley for making this available as read now and giving lots of early readers the opportunity!

I really wanted to enjoy this one more than I did. I sometimes struggle with Olivia Dade's writing, but other times I absolutely love it. This is a really interesting premise but unfortunately it just did not work for me. I appreciate the plus size representation and generally liked Edie as a character. I just did not enjoy the cringey banter between Edie and Max at all. Most of it was just a bit too left field for me. I enjoyed the first half where we spend time with just the two main characters, and I enjoyed the side characters less in the second half. The romance was a bit too quick and nearing insta-love territory. However, I think this will work really well for some readers, especially those looking for a paranormal romance for summer-ween! If you like silly banter, fun characters, and zombie outbreak settings, this could work for you.

DNF'd this one unfortunately. The plot is just too far out there for me! I really tried, so I'm curious how the whole book was for folks that finished it.

This book had me laughing, crying, and kicking my feet like I was starring in my own chaotic romcom. Except this one comes with zombies, secret bunkers, and a vampire named Gaston (yes, really).

Edie Brandstrup is the kind of heroine you root for from page one. Fierce, loyal, and so determined to protect others that she literally throws herself into danger. And then there’s Max. Gaston Maximus Boucher, the grumpy, sword-wielding vampire neighbor with centuries of brooding energy and a heart that somehow grows three sizes every chapter. Their banter? Top-tier. The kind of witty, chaotic dialogue that has you grinning at your Kindle and rereading lines just to laugh again.

The chemistry? The spice was SPICING. I was absolutely not prepared for how much tension Olivia Dade packed into a zombie apocalypse. She still delivered swoony moments that had me sighing out loud.

But what surprised me most was how tender this book was. Yes, it’s a hilarious rom-com full of wild, action-packed moments, but underneath all that is a story about choosing connection in a broken world, about loving fiercely even when it’s terrifying.

If you love grumpy/sunshine dynamics, found family, slow-burn spice with emotional depth, and a dash of apocalypse absurdity,

My thanks to Netgalley, Berkley Publishing Group and Olivia Dade for the eARC in exchange for review of this book.
When I first opened this book and started reading, my first overwhelming thought was simply this, "Olivia Dade, how I've missed you!"

Seriously, the banter, the quips, the overall feeling just left me smiling because I've read a lot of books by Olivia Dade, so by now when I get to read her books, I know what I'm going to find. It's the reason I keep going back and reading more books by Olivia Dade. These books end up almost comfort reads, the kind of books that I randomly think, yes, I'm going to read that again RIGHT NOW, because it fits the mood I'm in. I've been looking forward to Zomromcom since the book was announced and for me, it did not disappoint.

Zomromcom is about Edie Brandstrup, who lives in the Containment Zone, which means she lives near a compound that keeps a horde of zombies from attacking the general public. These zombies were created by the government, and there are a lot of protocols in place to keep the people safe from another breach. The book opens when Edie is just returning home for the day to find a zombie on its way to attacking her neighbor. She runs to intervene and is surprised when the man she thought was a little dim not only manages to save them both, but also turns out to be a vampire. Max wants to keep Evie safe in the shelter he's created in his home but Edie is the type of person to go out of her way to save other people, which means diving headfirst into danger to warn their neighbors before it's too late and the zombies destroy everything that gets in their way.

The plot is straightforward, what is given in the synopsis is exactly what we get. I respect that because nothing bugs me more than starting a book based on a synopsis that turns out completely different than what I wanted to find. Edie has a goal, save as many people as possible. Max's goal is to keep Edie safe. The government created zombies to be weapons, but they carried their development too far and lost control of their creations which resulted in a massacre when the zombies got loose twenty years before the start of this book. When the zombies needed to be contained, supernatural creatures came out of hiding to help drive back the horde and save the world. Which is how vampires, witches, telepaths, fae, trolls and other manner of creatures are now a part of the makeup of this world.

And this world is interesting. It goes without saying that zombies are a large part of practically everything nowadays. There are movies, shows and books dedicated to zombies and the people who have to deal with a world in which zombies exist. As a result, for a new "zombie" book to stand out, it needs to do enough to stand apart from what has come before and Dade's book manages to make enough tweaks that made me invested in the story but also left me with so many questions, questions I hope will be answered in sequels to this book (yes, sequels, plural, because I think there is enough here to at least be a trilogy, if things can work out that way). The motivations behind the creation of zombies and the reasonings behind their apparent escape are the points that drive this book, and for me there was not a dull moment in this story. It moves fast because Edie and Max have a countdown, they have to stop the zombies and warn the world in a matter of days. Even when the characters had to take some time to rest and heal, it did not feel like a slog to get through the book. In fact, by the time the ending hit, I knew it was going to leave me wishing for more pages. The book just worked for me in keeping my attention, making me smile and laugh at Edie and Max bickering, and making me care for every character that they meet along the way.

The best way in my mind to describe this is that trope, how does it go? The grumpy/sunshine trope. Edie and Max fit that perfectly, so if you're familiar with romance novels, that is what you can expect. The characters are introduced with ease, allowing readers to learn a lot about Edie and Max with just a few pages of their being in the same vicinity as each other. What I enjoy about Dade's books is the quick wit shown in the dialogue. The pace of the book goes quick, mainly thanks to the rapid back and forth between Edie and Max. Even the side characters are given enough development that I hope we get to see more of them in the next installment. Nothing felt superfluous, or out of place. Dade even adds in a fun tidbit, which is that Max's first name is Gaston, which automatically makes Edie think of the Disney villain and the song that goes with that character. And because Edie is that type of person, she makes up so many iterations of that song to bug the heck out of Max that it is a beauty to behold, laughing the whole time while managing to sing along with her because come on, almost everyone knows that song.

Honestly, I want to go back and read this again. I want to talk about this book with people who like zombie movies and romances. I respect the fact that Dade took a chance and tried something new with a supernatural romance. If there are more books by Dade like this one, I need to find them asap.

Rating: 9.5 Stars on my ratings scale. Why not 10? Because it just ended and I want more already. And I have no idea when I'll be able to hear Edie sing another "Gaston" song to Max, which is a travesty, if I do say so myself. Olivia Dade, I salute your "Gaston" songs by the way. If there was ever the perfect villain song to incorporate into your work, you chose the best one by far.

Thank you to Olivia Dade and NetGalley for an advanced copy!! Dade is always a fun relaxing read. It's nice to see bigger people be love interests and main characters that aren't just a joke. This has a decent mix of supernatural, romance, and even some world building (there is a map). Now, if I can get a story with one of the trolls next.

Once again, I find myself conflicted while writing this review. (This has apparently become a theme for me lately).

I marked some things as spoilers that don't necessarily spoil the plot or anything, but they are just hilarious moments that stood out. Some people may want to discover those moments for themselves, but others may be intrigued by their mention in this review and be like "Yep, that sounds ridiculous, this book is totally for me!"

This book was fun. A fun storyline with fun banter and fun characters. I mean, the banter was fresh and laugh-out-loud funny and broke the tension throughout the whole book. It was enjoyable in that sense and really showcased the personalities of all the characters in how they interacted with each other. I can think of countless moments in this book where the banter was just so.. normal.. despite a not-so-normal situation, and it really lightened the mood. Plus, it's not often you get a strong, broody alpha male who uses perfectly timed, sassy sarcasm throughout the story. <spoiler> I mean, CHAD EXISTED FOR THREE YEARS AS AN AVOIDANCE MECHANISM?! I love the commitment to the bit </spoiler>

My one qualm, if you will, is that the banter and levity that I loved was written at a level that sort of took away from everything else. It overshadowed the main plot and became almost tedious at times. There were times when the book <i> needed </i> a serious moment, whether it was an action scene or an emotional one, but the banter/puns/dialogue took away from that and cheapened it. <spoiler> The Beauty and the Beast songs started out hilarious, but by the end of the book, they were cringey and I found myself skipping over those parts. </spoiler>

Overall, I did enjoy this book. I think it's definitely a mood-read, though, and I recommend going into it when you are looking for something light, fun, and a bit cheesy. The humor, the characters, and the concept were entirely over-the-top at times.. <spoiler> (Zombies that speak french? "I can't believe it's not falaffel"? Macrame underwear on a vampire's OnlyFans? Deadly counterfitters who love to bake?) </spoiler> But I think that's what made this such a unique read.

I really alternated between 3 and 4 stars for this one, but ultimately, I do love how fresh this book felt and it's unlike any that I've read before.

This was really fun! I thought the romance elements were fantastic-- I liked how Max didn't fall into the brooding vampire stereotype, and I really enjoyed his interactions with Edie. Edie is strong, funny, and I loved her ribbing of Max. I thought the world was really interesting-- I love how she incorporated all sorts of magical creatures, not just zombies. However, I did wish that some of those elements had appeared earlier in the book, because it felt like I was getting a lot of information and new characters in the back third that would have been cool to learn earlier. Still a really cool read, excited to see where the next book goes!
