Happy pub day!!!! I love everything Kate Alice Marshall writes and I was excited to read this one. Eight tragedy survivors enter a reality competition show. They walk in to an abandoned town and the gate closes behind them (GASP). Who will survive?! It had some twists and turns. I wish it gave me a little more but I still enjoyed the book. If you like The Compound, competition shows and YA books check this out.

Thank you @netgalley, @penguinbooks @vikingbooks and @kmarshallarts for this advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book had an interesting premise! I have to say, Kate Alice Marshall is an auto buy author for me and she’ll continue to be! I love her adult thrillers and was so excited to try this book!

I think the main difference I noticed with this book is it wasn’t as emotionally taxing as her adult novels. But man, was this a fun ride!

Part survivor story, part murder mystery, who will still be standing at the end?

This starts off very fast paced and suspenseful but overall, it felt very long and dragged out. I didn't realize this was a YA thriller when I requested it but it definitely reads very young so just beware if that's your favorite.

We Won’t All Survive is a twisty YA thriller by Kate Alice Marshal. I was really intrigued by this concept and knew I needed to read this book. A group of survivors invited to participate in a survivor like reality show, and they start dying one by one. Yes, please. Though I loved the concept, this books execution at times fell short. The pacing of this book felt off at times. I felt like there was too many characters, because I felt some of the characters weren’t developed as much as I wanted them to be. For me good character development enhances a locked room thriller. I did enjoy the setting of this book, an abandoned town added to the creepy atmosphere. This is a solid thriller book that I would recommend to young adult readers. Thanks NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was so good. I’m so happy I was approved to read this one early by @netgalley and I’m kicking myself for not picking it up earlier. This is a must read for those who love squid game but want it a bit darker.

Kate Alice Marshall is one of my favorite adult thriller authors, but this is the first YA thriller I’ve read by her and it was just as amazing her other books!! This story was SO good and captivating, and even when I thought I had it all figured out, there were still surprises! I loved Mercy and several of the other characters (I can’t say who without spoilers), but this was an amazingly layered thriller with a beautiful message about the importance of community. I loved it!

I was so excited to have received an eARC of We Won't All Survive by Kate Alice Marshall!
I love Marshall and her writing never disappoints.
These characters were brought to life and the author’s writing and descriptions of the characters and scenery were really well written.
An extremely well written YA thriller with an intricate plot and skillfully drawn characters. It’s a real page turner with twists and turns that seem to spin out of control. The ending was just amazing.
It grabbed me from the first page and kept me guessing.
Kept me turning the pages late into the night.

I tried really hard to read this. Too hard, probably. Try as I might, I could not. I tried on my computer, and it would not load, no matter what I tried. I even downloaded the app, but the font was so tiny on my phone (with no way to increase) that I simply could not. Please, publishers, please just give us an EPUB so we can "send to Kindle"! I will buy this when it comes out because I love the author's other books, and if I can I will update this with a real review.

I went into this novel, not knowing that it is YA. I have read all of Kate Alice Marshall’s adult novels but did not realize she had YA novels. At first I was a little skeptical because I do not usually read young adult, but decided to get it a try because I love this author so much.

We Won’t All Survive is about the reality tv show, ‘Who Survives’, which features eight kids to band together in an abandoned town to try and survive for six weeks. The prize is one hundred thousand dollars, and Mercy, a mall shooting victim with a bullet lodge near her spine, needs that money.

As the game begins, all the players realize they are victims of huge traumas and are all survivors already in their everyday lives. After the very first night in the town, a player is found dead and no one has any idea of who could be behind it. Things quickly turn from a reality show to real life survival mode, and they have to figure out who is behind the terror as players drop dead daily.

While I don’t feel like the story was necessarily slow, but it was. I for some reason could not fully get into it. I’m thinking maybe the YA factor had something to do with it.

I will say the ending did surprise me, I had not figured it out, and coming from a young adult perspective it had just the right amount of suspense and not too much gore.

That being said I do not think I will remember much about this book at all, nor will I highly recommend it. It was an ok time for the moment but nothing to write home about.

Thank you to Net Galley and Penguin Group Publishing for an advanced readers copy of We Won’t All Survive, in exchange for an honest review, it was an honor!

I didn't like this one as much as I've liked her previous books, I think because it was YA, but once I got interested, it was a great plane read in that I didn't want to put in down. I thought the characters were all pretty likable and I didn't really know who the killer would be. Fast-paced, locked-door thriller that's an easy binge.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

It has been two years since Mercy Gray was hailed a hero for saving lives during a mall shooting.. She still has a fragment of a bullet lodged in her back, a mountain of medical debt, and guilt for ignoring her sister’s warnings about the sweet boy next door. So when billionaire turned TV host Damien Dare recruits Mercy to compete on his new survivalist reality show, she jumps at the chance. This is her chance to pay off those medical bills, and send her sister to college. But when she and the other contestants arrive at the off-grid location, something isn’t right. The set is empty. Then gates close without warning, trapping them inside. When one of the contestants winds up dead it first appears to be a tragic, accident. Soon though, more contestants start dropping like flies. With time and resources running low, surviving this show takes on a whole new meaning. Mercy must figure out who to trust. Before she’s next.

This YA thriller kept me captivated from start to finish. It was very fast paced, and it kept me guessing as to who was behind everything. I had my suspicions, but they weren't confirmed until almost the very end. This is perfect for fans of Karen McManus, Holly Jackson & Sara Shepard.

I was approved for an ARC of this on NetGalley, and I devoured it over the weekend!

It’s a locked room mystery with plenty of danger and plenty of suspects. It starts out kind of slow to set the scene, but once it starts going it really goes! I could not turn the pages fast enough. I needed to know what happened! The short chapters really helped with the edge-of-your-seat feeling.

I liked the way trauma history played into the story for each of the characters, and the development of the main character, Mercy, who was a survivor of a mass shooting, although it left her with plenty of scars. The overall theme of survival and teamwork were very timely. I also really liked the found family aspect of the story.

This publishes tomorrow, so don’t wait to get your hands on a copy! And let me know if you enjoyed it as much as I did!

I first discovered KAM when I read (and devoured) "What lies in the Woods". Needless to say, she has set the bar high when it comes to thrillers!

Imagine signing up for a reality to show and ot ends up turning into a fight for survival. Sound interesting? Then you should give this book a chance!

Mercy Gray is a survivor of a mall shooting that has left her scarred and changed forever. When TV host Damien Dare gives her an opportunity of a lifetime to compete for a life altering prize, she can't say no. After all, nothing could be worse than what she went through at the mall years ago, right? Think again!

This book is full of secrets, thrills, and will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out the mystery. While I can't say I enjoyed it as much as What lies in the Woods, it was still very enjoyable and kept me guessing and engaged until the last page.

We Won’t All Survive by Kate Alice Marshall

Thank You NetGalley and Penguin Group for a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This is a fast-paced, unputdownable Young Adult thriller (I didn’t realize it was a YA when I requested it, but no regrets!)! Billionaire Damien Dare recruits eight people between the ages of 18 and 20 to participate in a survival style reality TV show. All the contestants have had a harrowing experience in their past. Once such contestant is Mercy Gray. She survived a mall shooting and was able to get some people to safety. But she has a bullet lodged close to her spine as a souvenir from that fatal day.
Presently, the contestants have all arrived at an off grid abandoned ghost town where the game is to take place. The winner receives $100,000. Now, they are all locked into the game, but no one from the game crew is there. It’s completely abandoned, except for the contestants. But slowly, one by one, they begin to drop dead. Someone is killing the contestants, but who? Is there someone else there, or is one or more of the contestants not who they say they are? This is an edge-of-your seat, fast-paced survival style thriller! Look for it when it’s available July 29, 2025!

Eight teens/young adults are invited to take part in a survivor-type reality tv show, where the director, Damian Dare, believes that an apocalypse is imminent and only the young adults will be ready to survive. All of the teens who come have already faced some sort of trauma, whether it is being at a mall shooting, being trapped for hours in an enclosed space, or having to survive out on the water for days, which is exactly what Dare is looking for. After the teens all arrive and have tried to get a sense of what is happening in the remote desert ghost town of Landry's Gap, they realize this is not what they signed up for.
This book was a quick read but it was twisted and troubling in the way that made me just want to finish it up already. If survivor stories are your thing, this is recommended. High school and up.

I’ve only read one of Kate Alice Marshall’s books before. It wasn’t a home run for me but I enjoyed the writing and the story and knew I’d pick up another one of her books when the time came. I got the opportunity to read this ARC and I wasn’t disappointed at all.

WWAS follows Mercy, two years after being touted as a national hero for saving lives in a mass shooting at her local mall. Bogged down with trauma, medical debt, and the need to send her younger sister to college, Mercy signs up for a survivalist reality show composed of other young adults with unique histories of their own. Things go awry very quickly with practically an abandoned set and the body of a competitor.

This book impressed me. I love stories that are YA but in the vein of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, where it still feels to me like a compelling read as an adult. This definitely qualified. I really enjoyed the setting and the camaraderie and conflict of the participants. I was legitimately rooting for those kids. This was a book I blasted through because I had to know what was going to happen next. The biggest bummer for me was I could only read it on my phone (which I can technically do but I hate it— publishers, some of us are supposed to spend time off of screens, or with an e-reader which is at least more gentle on my optic nerve).

Despite my screen gripe, I’m really glad to have gotten to read this eARC in exchange for the honest review. Thank you @netgalley and @penguinbooks! We Won’t All Survive by Kate Alice Marshall drops TOMORROW July 29th!

Thank you to net Galley for an ARC in Exchange for my honest review!!

Mercy signed up for a survival show to help pay for her sister's college, she feels it’s her fault her savings are gone. Mercy was shot during a mass shooter event, where she saved her sister and several others. After draining their savings account to pay her medical bills Mercy is determined to win it back. However when all the contestants show up to the location, it’s clear something is not right, and someone doesn't want them all to make it.

I love Kate Alice Marshall’s adult books so I was VERY excited to get this ARC. This was my first teen book of hers and I was really surprised how well she wrote teen. She is right up there with Karen McManus and Holly Jackson for me. It did take me a minute to get into but I have been reading a lotttt of locked room mysteries (obviously, you can tell) so I felt a little burnt out by it. However I still think it worked very well. Unfortunately to me it was pretty obvious who the bad guy was, but she still had a few twists and turns that got me. She does a good job of making everyone look trustworthy while also making everyone look guilty, it does sort of keep you guessing and second guessing throughout the book. This was not my favorite of hers, I do prefer her adult novels, but as a teen thriller I think it was pretty good!!

Synopsis ✒️
Damien Dare is a billionaire running a reality survival show. He recruits Mercy and other young "survivors" (victims of past trauma) to compete in challenges and ultimately bring home a cash prize. Things take a turn when the gates abruptly close, and one of them winds up dead.

Thoughts 💭
This one had me interested the entire time. The setting is a creepy ghost town in the middle of nowhere. There's no way out and no contact with the outside world. Each character has an interesting background, including some sort of traumatic event. The goal is to prove that the trauma they survived makes them more capable of surviving in general. People slowly start ending up dead, and you're not sure who to trust. I had an idea of who I thought was doing things behind the scenes, but there was enough doubt that I still wasn't sure until closer to the end. This one was fun until the last page!
