Suggest reading if open door romances are your jam

4.5 ⭐️ This is book is for “grown folks,” for sureee!!! The narrators were TOP TIER!. I LOVED both the FMC Tanika and the MMC Gideon! I always enjoy Tati Richardson’s work & this is no different!

4.5 - “I know i need you. I’m going to come home to you.”
This was a really cute mature read with both the MCs being 40+. We have Gideon wanting to love again and Tanika finally realizing what she’s been missing. Outside of finding love there’s so much more that comes with this story. You have grief, issues with a parent, A1 friend group, the spice is very much hot, career drama, and them being sneaker heads sealed the deal.
I love the story around the glasses giving magic/paranormal aspect and what they do for Tanika. It’s like the opposite of rose colored glasses. Not only is she having issues seeing at her sports reporter job but has yet to notice there’s more to life than work. Until these glasses also make her see certain people for who they are. Gideon is ready to move on but maybe not as soon as he thought. Sometimes things happen or people come into your life showing you how much you haven’t let go. In order to love this new phase in your life completely you must cherish what you had and know there’s never any replacing it. While making room to fully embrace the new path that has been set.
Favorite scene was the talking dirty phone sex. Is was funny and cute. (You’ll see what i mean when you get there.)
Thank you Tati Richardson and Row House by Spotify Audiobooks for an ARC. Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L Wood did an amazing job with the audio.

Such a unique and quirky romance
This breath of fresh air writing that immediately invited me in sets the perfect tone for the little sprinkle of magic in the book. I love reading contemporary romance like this, with a dash of magical realism. It only amplifies the magic of what the romance genre is.
Richardson's writing never fails me either. She makes really fleshed out female leads, and here we get a female sport anchor. We get a fine and fabulous female lead in her 40's with a zaddy optometrist falling for her.
I need more stories like this in my life. Narration is wonderful as well! Love the dual narrators!

Tanika Ryan is a big-time sports reporter, known for her Thursday Night Football spot and her keen interviews. She's worried she's losing her touch, though, because she's missing lines on the teleprompter. She's also lost her spot on TNF to a younger, hotter woman, and she's been relegated to fly fishing and lacrosse (but thankfully not yet hockey). It's not her blood pressure, it's not her diet, but it can't possibly be that she needs glasses... can it? On a drive home, she hits a fire hydrant because she can't see, and immediately schedules an appointment with an optometrist. Said optometrist is a hot, nerdy cousin of one of her best girlfriends. Gideon Miles is a widower, and hasn't been on the dating scene since his wife died two years ago. But there's instant chemistry, and once Gideon gives her the new glasses, he asks her out. But Tanika's high stress job with frequent travels isn't conducive to a real relationship, is it?
I enjoyed Tati Richardson's debut, The Build Up, and was excited to pick up her sophomore book, Losing Sight. This was SO MUCH fun and I absolutely devoured it. This is a great romance with a touch of magical realism/fabulism.
The banter, the sports references, the friendship between Tanika and her friends were all great. But really, any romance with main characters over 40 is such a joy to read. There's a plot with Tanika interviewing a 28-year-old F1 turned stock car racer who wants to date Tanika, and she gently but firmly says they are in very different places in life, and I felt that in my bones. I cheered for all the characters all the way through, and had a really good time doing it.
The audiobook is fantastic, and I highly recommend listening; I was riveted. I was equally delighted to read the eARC with my eyes as well.

I finished this audiobook in one sitting. This book is very grown and sexy. Gideon is a top tier book boyfriend and Tanika’s growth and ability to take accountability is refreshing. The spice is spicy. The supporting characters felt real and fleshed out. Tati Richardson is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors

I’ve been eager to dive into this book ever since I first saw the cover. A Black romantic comedy featuring mature main characters? Yes, please!
The description promises a “high-heat and hilarious rom-com that harkens to the golden age of Black romance,” so I went in expecting plenty of laughs. But while the story was engaging, it felt more like contemporary fiction with romantic elements than a true rom-com. Enjoyable? Absolutely. Hilarious? Not so much.
That said, I had a great time following Tanika’s journey as an on-air sports journalist, meeting the vibrant supporting cast, and enjoying the spice—with just a sprinkle of magic for good measure.
As for the audiobook narration, the male character’s performance was solid, but the female narration felt a little wooden, almost robotic at times, which pulled me out of the story here and there.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book—it just didn’t quite deliver on all the rom-com magic I was hoping for.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This just might be my fave Tati Richardson book yet ! Tanika & Gideon were a good good time.
There are so many layers Tanika and Gideon and I love it. Tanika is a mature baddie with a successful career that is literally stalling out because she’s getting in her own way (kinda) lol then we have equally successful Gideon who had it, then lost it when his wife passes away.
Their journeys to each other are rooted in finding the way back to self and embracing the new. I love when the love story has depth. Oh and as a fellow visionally impaired girly I LOVED the name. Quite clever. The glasses being a main character was such a vibe and it allowed me to discover another fave micro trope: when glasses wearers take em off to be grown 🤭
Andddd that *sprinkle sprinkle* of extra help but way magical realism…. Too cute. I really could go on and on because I loved this so much. I was reminded of Mickey Chambers shakes things up and that was one of my fave books in 2024.
Thank you Tati for sharing this story! Thank you NetGalley and Spotify audiobooks for this ARC

I love the representation for us 40 year old men and woman who struggle to keep up the younger version of ourselves. Starting over or change is difficult but later in life is the ultimate test. Tanika who’s dedicated to her career and her only focus is excelling in the male dominated sports broadcasting industry. Gideon an optometrist is dealing with grief and trying to pick up the pieces of his life after the death of a loved one. The two find themselves exploring a relationship with all the ups, downs and turnarounds that’s come with a new relationship. This was such a light hearted romcom with some added spice.

🌟 Book Review: Losing Sight by Tati Richardson 🌟
I absolutely loved “Losing Sight,” and it definitely deserves ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars ! So good! Gave me all the feels. I would and have recommended this.
The story follows Tanika Ryan, a talented news reporter who was at the top of her game—until she wasn’t. One moment, she was sprinting towards the teleprompter, and the next, she found herself sidelined, losing her Thursday Night Football position to a younger, and less qualified woman. Yikes! 😬
Just when it felt like life was throwing her curveballs, her friends step in and encourage her to visit the fine, widowed optometrist Gideon Miles. This is where the magic happens! With a pair of special glasses, Tanika discovers a new way to view the world and, more importantly, a fresh perspective on her own life.
Tati beautifully captures the essence of a spicy rom-com while highlighting the golden age of Black romance and the sweetness of second-chance love. Each page is filled with humor, warmth, and relatable moments that kept me hooked from start to finish.
Losing Sight isn’t just a love story; it’s a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and finding love when you least expect it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful read that leaves you with a smile! 📚💖

This is a grown-up romance with spice. Losing Sight takes you on a journey of two 40+ individuals trying to navigate dating later in life. This was such a great read; I enjoyed everything about it.

Losing Sight is THEE romantic read for every middle-aged woman finding love in their prime and learning to embrace the tides of time. Tanika Ryan is the IT sports reporter who has hit a midlife crisis. Though she is THE meal, she feels as though she is a jumbled mess of ingredients that she can’t mix well to be seen that way. Throw in some ill-fated circumstances, a hot shot young rising beauty queen, and her aging eyes and graying hair, and it quickly turns into a recipe for disaster.
But a not so chance meeting with a new optometrist and a pair of magical glasses begin to turn her views around and help her figure out what’s been missing all along. Gideon is suffering from a loss that he can’t quite move on from, but meeting Tanika proves to be the healing balm that he needs to revamp his future.
This story is not linear and has its bumps, bruises and bad boy Brits to prove that even when the road is clear, it’s filled with curves. It’s how we tackle the challenges that makes or breaks us. A lesson that not only Tanika and Gideon must learn, but everyone in life, too. This read will make you evolve and embrace. Mostly, it will make you fall in love with Black love, destined love, and self-love. Kudos to Tati and the narrators Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L. Wood (that British accent, superb!)
I received an ARC copy from the author and from audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The cover says this is a romantic comedy. It is not.
Ok, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way….
This is a cute romance. There is a little bit of everything you need in a good romance story, dates, a well meaning friend group, lust, and a little bit of magical realism. There is conflict, chaos and loving with this couple, its takes them a minute to get it figured out but I think you will enjoy the ride.
The narrators did I good job. I recommend this book.

This book is such a wonderful ride through the laughs, the emotions, and heartful storyline. I truly enjoyed listening to the audio of Losing Sight by Tati Richardson.
Read this for:
Characters in their 40s
Celebrity romance element
A bit of sports romance
Forced proximity
Workplace
Magical realism
Tanika Ryan is a well known sports reporter having issues with seeing causing her to not be able to read her teleprompter properly. She finally gives in and goes to the eye doctor who is one of her best friend's cousin. Gideon Miles is the luck optometrist who gets to help Tanika with finding her a new set of glasses. Immediately the two have chemistry, and Gideon wants to pursue a relationship with Tanika, even though he's still trying to move past the death of his wife.
Tanika gets her first pair of glasses that end up being magic glasses. They allow her to see other people's auras which help her navigate her personal and professional life. After she has her new glasses, her luck seems to be changing in her professional life and things start to get better for her with more opportunities opening up.
I really enjoyed the bit of magical realism in this book. I thought it enhanced the story and made the connection that happens between Tanika and Gideon so sweet. I love that this takes place in Atlanta and Tati mentions areas of Atlanta I know well. It was also really great to see the prospective of a woman navigating her career as she got older and being able to be successful. I loved that this book focuses on characters in their forties showing that you can find love at any stage of your life. I also really enjoyed the fun friend group Tanika had. I could see some more books for the love stories for those characters!
This book delivers on the spice too. The chemistry between Gideon and Tanika was HOT! I enjoyed seeing how Gideon would take control of things in the bedroom which was what Tanika needed.
I had so much fun listening to this one. The narrators were fantastic and I had all the laughs and the feels!
Thank you to Row House by Spotify Audiobooks for this ALC. All opinions are my own.

When Tanika meets Gideon, an optometrist, her eyesight is causing her so many issues personally and professionally. After a magnetic connection, Tanika and Gideon’s spark is unquestionable with their spicy banter and love for sneakers. With a little magical realism from Tanika’s new glasses she able to read auras and avoid the bs, or so she thinks!
The representation in this book made it so enjoyable from beginning to the end. Also, I love when black women have it ALL…the love and the career of their dreams!
Thank you Generous Press, Row House by Spotify Audiobook and NetGalley for this advanced listener copy.

This was a fun read of a romance that had more teeth to it than typical. I really enjoyed the more mature 40+ characters and the glimpse into an industry that values youth… when it comes to women.
I am thankful to have gotten the ALC for free from Row House by Spotify through NetGalley to listen to which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
Because I was tasked with reviewing the audiobook I’ll leave the ins and out to the other book reviews of the content.
This was a dual m/f narrated audiobook with Jaime Lincoln Smith and Charlie L Wood at the helm.
Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the narration from Wood. She can off almost (but not quite) monotone throughout. While I enjoyed Smiths parts they were out of synch with each other in their narration speed with Smith reading considerably faster than Wood.
This made it difficult to adjust the narration speed which I needed because Ms Woods parts were very slow and drawn out which didn’t fit the character in my mind at all. Plus since speeding it up also changes the pitch, that helped with the flatter voice. However, when you speed it up, it of course speeds up the male parts which then zoomed through.
So for the narration I would give it 3⭐️ but I’m not
Going to diminish the overall books rating for it.
The book comes out February 11, 2025
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

I loved this, it was both light hearted but also deeply heartfelt. I loved the element of maybe magical realism that could also be passed off as just being attuned to the environment. I also love when romance novels have subplots with character growth, challenge and development. This was an all around. 5 star read.

I adore these two. I read the ebook earlier in January and I highly recommend the audiobook too. Great narrators. You'll adore Tanika and Gideon.

4.5 stars—Who knew glasses could be the real MVP? Tanika fumbles her job, crashes her car, and somehow ends up with a pair of magic specs—and a fine widowed optometrist to go with them. Between the steamy romance, hilarious chaos, and her ride-or-die girl gang, this book proves life (and love) only get better after 40.

Thank you to Generous Press, Row House by Spotify Audiobooks, and Tati Richardson for allowing me to have a ALC of this book.
I absolutely loved the story of Tanika and Gideon! It was so well developed on both ends of the characters. The book had just the right amount of spice that kept up with the plot. I would say this is a semi-slow burn but it keeps you engaged from beginning to end with all of the dynamics and changes in setting for the FMC Tanika.
I loved how Tanika and Gideon's plot lines collided all because Tanika was aging and needed glasses.; and who better give them to her than a fine a** optometrist. The progression of their relationship seemed very real and relatable which I enjoyed reading. But Tanika definitely had other prospects which kept the story interesting and helped her realize "she still got it".
I love the "3rd act" plot twist which really wasn't a twist that lead to spice hahah it was really good.
Overall, this is a well rounded story and I enjoyed every minute of reading it! The narration was perfect and elevated the plot. I would 100% recommend this Losing Sight!
PS: Bronwyn and Jackie are such good friends! They were so different but so alike in their love and support of Tanika. I loved that aspect of the story too. We love to see solid friendships in real life and it was nice to have it on the page!
