Oh my gosh Jessa Hastings always tears me apart and puts me back together. This book was so beautiful!!!!
I’d definitely recommend checking trigger warnings because there’s one pretty big one that’s prominent to the plot. There was great discussion around the trigger warning — these are things that should be talked about!
I love the way Jessa writes about her faith in her books. I find it so interesting and makes me really think about what I believe which is something we should all do. There were aspects of this book that made me so sad for people who experience “Christians” that don’t act like Christ. It makes my heart hurt for them and makes me sad that people claim to love Jesus and manipulate and tear people apart.
I love Jessa’s writing of course — the way she strings sentences together scratches an itch in my brain and I can’t get enough of it.
Now onto the characters:
I loved Georgia — she’s so smart and I found it so interesting how she can read people so well. She also goes to Cambridge and has like a triple graduate degree? Insane!! Also insane how much Jessa knows about reading people/psychology and I need to know if she went to school for it?? I love how Georgia wasn’t afraid of pain and that she faced it head on, it inspired me bc I am avoidant <3
I loved Sam 🥲🥲🥲 I think everyone is going to love Sam. He’s so unproblematic and an angel. He’s always calm and a safe place to land and I love that. I think people who complain about the characters in MPU are going to love Sam specifically.
Jessa is so good at writing flawed but real characters and I think that’s so beautiful!!!! The way she sees the world — I wish I could be her friend!!
The family dynamics in this are quite a lot and hard to read at times but also beautiful in other ways. How family is something you crave even if they can be awful to you?
Anyways this is such a brain dump but this book made me think about so many different things and I highly recommend checking it out!! This would also be a great place to start if you haven’t read her books before!!
Thank you sourcebooks for the arc 🫶🏼

Gosh, I love Jessa Hastings! I'd read her grocery list at this point. I love her writing, so much of this felt reminiscent of MPU and the inner workings of Magnolia. A great family saga full of drama and love, but it was also funny at times! Highly recommend, especially if you're already a fan of her work.
