*The Wonders of Doctor Bent* is one of those novels that pulls you in with its gripping narrative, leaving you on the edge of your seat while also making you ponder some heavy questions. At its core, it’s a dark psychological thriller that spins a tale of murder, revenge, and the kind of abandonment that sticks with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
The story unfolds around two main characters: Jason, a man whose quest for justice sends him spiraling into a world where trust is hard to come by, and Dr. Bent, the well-meaning Medical Director of Foston Hall, a high-security psychiatric hospital. Now, you might think a story centered on a psychiatrist would be all about healing and hope, but let me tell you, this book is anything but light and fluffy. Dr. Bent has his own demons to battle, and as he tries to reshape Foston Hall into a sanctuary for his troubled patients, his own mental health issues loom like dark clouds overhead.
What makes this book so engaging is how it delves into the complexities of psychological trauma. Both Jason and Dr. Bent are grappling with their own struggles—Jason is determined to track down his twin brother’s killer, while simultaneously dealing with the unraveling of his own life. That quest for vengeance is unsettling, to say the least.
As the plot thickens, we’re left asking crucial questions. In a world filled with danger and betrayal, how do you even begin to trust someone? This narrative thrives on the tension of uncertainty. The juxtaposition of Jason’s frantic search for answers and Dr. Bent’s noble yet flawed attempts to reform Foston Hall keeps readers riveted, because let’s face it, we all love a good character development arc, especially when it’s as messy and raw as this one.
In the end, *The Wonders of Doctor Bent* isn’t just about survival; it’s about how the death of trust can leave life feeling bleak and unmanageable. As Jason and Dr. Bent navigate their dark journeys, we’re left to wonder: will they find solace in each other’s company, or will the chaos swallow them whole? It’s a tantalizing read, perfect for those late-night book binges when you want a little thrill mixed with some deep thought. So, buckle up and get ready for a wild ride through the twisted corridors of Foston Hall!

this book was pretty good! I did feel lost a few times while reading. At some moments there was too much going on, and some moments I feel like there was no resolution and no closure. I think it was just okay for a book, was not a huge fan of it
Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complimentary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!
