I’m always on the lookout for witchy and/or magical stories and this one did not disappoint! I’m invested in these characters and I love the illustrations! The magic system is interesting and I can’t wait to learn more as this story goes on!

I really enjoyed this one! The world building was done so well, and the art style was easy to understand (it kind of reminded me of early 2000s cartoons). I love a sapphic, witchy story, and this one has all the best elements - familiars, witch families, mysterious back stories, coming-of-age, and, of course, queer characters. I can't wait to see where this one goes next.

This is a really promising start to what feels like it’s going to be an exciting story. The world that Miranda Mundt has created is really captivating and I was invested right away. The art is beautiful, and the magical elements, especially the familiars, are really well done.
Camille’s story is heartbreaking. The isolation and trauma she experiences, particularly the way she is treated by her own family for reasons beyond her control, make her easy to root for. Beyond Camille, the other characters feel well-developed and distinct.
This first volume does an excellent job of setting up the story, I’m eager to read the next installments.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy.
Camille suffered an unspeakable tragedy when she was young, losing both her mother and her twin sister in a fire. Just to grow up with an abusive aunt. But she is also part of a prestigious witch family that makes deals with demons to get their heart's desires. Can she prove to her aunt and to herself that she can do this?
Camille is 21 years old and is just trying to find a place where she belongs, which is something we can all relate to. I love the art style, as well. Definitely a New Adult title vs a Young Adult title for those looking. An absolutely enthralling story so far and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Muted, Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt is an engaging and visually stunning start to what promises to be an intriguing story.
The vibrant artwork is accompanied by a lot of detail, perfectly capturing the eerie and mystical atmosphere of the world.
The characters, especially Camille, are well-developed and easy to root for as she navigates the dangers and secrets surrounding her family’s magical legacy. It’s so tight knitted that nothing feels out of place.
Camille is a protagonist with a strong moral compass and a relatable sense of vulnerability. Her desire to break free from the weight of her family’s expectations while staying true to herself makes her journey captivating. She’s curious, brave, and determined, though her impulsiveness sometimes leads her into dangerous territory.
As Camille’s best friend and cousin, Marion provides a grounding presence amidst the chaos. She’s fiercely loyal and supportive, offering a sense of stability and warmth that Camille desperately needs. I enjoyed her witty remarks and the genuine friendship between her and Camille.
Renee, Camille’s aunt, is an enigmatic figure who adds tension and mystery to the story. Her cold demeanor and devotion to the Severin family’s legacy make her a formidable presence. While her motivations aren’t fully clear yet, there’s a complexity to her that hints at more layers to be uncovered.
The pacing is solid, with enough tension and mystery to keep the reader invested. While the world-building is intriguing, I would have loved a bit more depth in exploring the magical system and family dynamics. However, I feel like the following volumes will delve into this more deeply.

"Muted"'s Cover is dark and eery and that what I was hoping for!
The best thing: I got that and even more. Mostly I adore the art work. Sometimes it is a little bit unbalanced but that was in only some panels and I like it when the art work also can be simpler and still fits. From the way some things were portraied I felt reminded of the early W.I.T.C.H. comics which I adored as a kid.
Muted is about much more adult themes and interweaves them with an interesting mystery plot. I would love to discover what really happened in the past as Camille doesn't remember a lot of it. The small parts of answers we got were perfectly sprinkled in and made a lot of fun for guessing what will happen next. But Miranda Mundt is really good at keeping my interest even if some questions are still very open.
I love how Camille is able to open up without her strong-minded aunt. I'm a little bit scared that the month she has is not enough but I will happily read the second installment to find that out. The new characters and their quirks and interests were lovable. I especially love the hinted queerness of Camille and want to know if she has also in this part happiness to find.
I really loved this first Volume!

Muted is a coming-of-age graphic novel about witches based on a Webtoon of the same name. The story begins around the full moon after Camille Severin's 21st birthday, where she is supposed to summon a demon to give her wealth and status. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for Camille, the ritual doesn't quite go to plan.
It needs to be said that I am definitely not the target demographic. While I love the premise, it definitely felt like something I would have enjoyed more at 13-14. Personally, I found the plot to be predictable and cliché but it's definitely something my daughter would love, so I'm going to review this from the teenage angle.
The relationships are definitely what makes this graphic novel interesting. There are a great variety of relationship dynamics at play - family, romance, friendship, pets. It's the perfect setting for an age group where friendships are starting to become more dominant and role models need to be chosen carefully. The story revolves around the idea of found family which will resonate strongly with those who feel like they don't fit in.
The scenes are well drawn and visually appropriate for the subject matter and audience. The vibe is creepy without being graphic. When I first started reading, I expected the story to be darker but it's genuinely uplifting in places. The artist manages to blend the cuter aspects into the overall gloom without sacrificing either side which is to be commended.
The representation in this graphic novel is also excellent! I am very happy with the disability, race and LGBTQ+ inclusion. There are scars, wheelchairs, grey hairs and more. It felt natural without being overbearing and I'm sure the redheads will be equally thrilled with how many Muntz has managed to cram in.
Overall, I don't know if I would read the full series but I would absolutely recommend to my daughter, confident that she would adore it. I'm sure this time next year, I'll be presented with a birthday list full of Muted merch and I'll be overhearing conversations quoting, 'It's okay if you like "PLANTS"' followed by many giggles.
This review will be published to Pending Plays on 7th July 2025.

WOW! I read this in a day! I honestly had no idea I was at the end until it just ended. I need Volume 2 right now! This was so well written, and the graphics were great! When I got to the part where it said, "An Eloi Along?" "Which means that the girl that you saw was probably.... POSSESSED" gave me chills. I love the story line of being torn between what you have been told your whole life to find out you are something so much more. The graphics and photos are beautiful and really pull you in with the story. I will be reading Volume 2 once it is available!!
I will wait and share my reviews online closer to July 8th as asked when ARC was approved. Thank you.

Review of Muted: Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt
I was initially drawn to Muted: Volume 1 because of its intriguing premise; witchcraft and magic are always a great foundation for a compelling story. The comic started off strong, with an immersive atmosphere and the potential for rich world-building. However, as the story progressed, I found myself losing interest. What began as a promising tale of magic and mystery veered off course into something entirely different.
While I appreciate diversity in storytelling, Muted seemed more focused on ticking every representation box rather than maintaining a cohesive narrative. Instead of feeling organic, the diversity felt forced, as though the story was being shaped around representation rather than the other way around. As a result, the initial premise, the very thing that made the comic intriguing, got lost. The shift in focus took away from the magical elements and led the story down a path that felt muddled and, ultimately, disappointing.
Overall, Muted: Volume 1 had great potential, but it lost its way. While some may enjoy its approach, I found that it sacrificed its original strengths in favor of something less engaging.

This was a lovely graphic novel. I was intrigued and wanted to know more as it went on. Also the art was beautiful, it fit the story well.

“My world has gotten so much bigger in such a short amount of time.”
I loved every single page of muted. The world allows escapism, even though it’s also very easy to identify oneself to the MC, Camille. She’s different –in many ways– and she has difficulties finding her place in the world. The demon she evoques during the ceremony at the beginning of the book –and that scares her later, making her having panic attack and sensory overload– is such a great representation of “everyone’s difficulties” but as an autistic person it felt a great way to picture the “dark” side of autism, when the world begins to be too much and overwhelming, and when you can’t have dragon anymore (I usually call it the dragon to my unicorn, but well…).
I adored the art of this book, the lines, but also the vibrant colors, and probably even more the choices for framing that made the whole even more impactful.
I can’t wait for the next instalment in this story to be released, as in this one Camille discovered a few things about herself, found (more than?) friends and extra family. I can’t wait to know if she’ll embrace all this identity… Also the romance feels very promising so… I’ll be there for book 2!
Thank you to the author and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for the eARC via Netgalley. My opinions are my own.

I LOVED this! It is beautifully drawn and the story is captivating and kept me wanting more. Camille is a likable and interesting character that you can't help but root for. Mundt does a great job at fleshing out her backstory and letting the reader know exactly where she is coming from. The family dynamic is very interesting and I am looking forward to reading volume 2 and learning more about the Severin family.

I loved this graphic novel. It isn’t perfect, sometimes a bit hard to follow, but overall a great, intriguing story. I loved the art, which feels perfect for the story. Didn’t realise it was queer when I started reading it, so that was a nice surprise. And it’s always fun to read a mystery about families, and why a community might be the way it is.
Really look forward to reading the next one! Recommended for those who likes mysteries and secrets, a dark past sprinkled with some lovely light.

I loved this book and am definitely anticipating the sequel I hope Camille get all the good things she deserved and her terrible aunt gets locked up because I think she started the fire that killed her mother.

*Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a copy*
This graphic novel was so good! I loved the art style so much, it reminds me of like 2000s cartoon style for some reason? And it was SO CUTE. I loved it!
The story itself is the beginning of a coming of age story, and I’m so intrigued to what will happen next. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENSSSSS!!!

his graphic novel is SO pretty! I loved the way different styles of witchcraft were presented, and the setting in New Orleans. I feel like this one did a great job of introducing us to the characters and world and setting up for future volumes. I was engrossed all the way through it and connected easily with the characters.
Thanks to Miranda Mundt, Clarkson Potter, and NetGalley for the chance to read and review! I can't wait to pick up the next volume!!

"Muted" is a great new graphic novel by Miranda Mundt. It follows a young witch, raised by a powerful family. She had a tragic childhood where nothing seemed too good or enough. In this first volume she learns more about her true powers and more secrets about her family.
The art is gorgeous. The storyline is gripping. This is definitely a series I will be following!

Super fun graphic novel! Can’t wait for the next one after the ending. Felt like it could have had more depth.

You're drawn in immediately by the intricate and vibrant art and kept engaged by delving into the complex and intriguing witchy world that the characters live in. There's so many nuanced relationship dynamics and Camille's development is already promising so far. Volume #1 establishes a great story foundation and leaves you wanting more. So ready for the romance subplot to develop more, as well.

Beautiful art style, incredible world building, and a fast paced interesting plot! I really enjoyed this, and would definitely recommend sitting down and reading this. I was so enthralled by the plot and art that I read this volume in one sitting!
I will say that it was a little difficult to pick up on what was happening at first, bit that was resolved pretty quickly and could have homestly just been a learning curve.
