I absolutely adored this graphic novel. The story is fantastic as well as the illustrations. I cannot wait to read the next one and find out what happens to Camille. This one had me swept up for sure!

3.75, I really liked this I think the next volumes would be in the 4 range now that I know the characters and care about them. I like the plot it's unique and well-done has great pacing, I also ADORE the art style it feels so cozy and pretty. In saying that I would also like to just say the art style is very versatile it expresses the warmer more pretty scenes really well and also does great in the darker "creepier" parts.

This has a little bit of everything I love it; magic, demons, familiars, witch families, possession, a mysterious, messed up family dynamics?! For me??
The art style great, perfectly encapsulating the vibes. The colours are gorgeous. It's a fun fresh take on witch's and hereditary magic. But also the feel of it reminded me of a lot of shows I loved growing up in the 90s/00s. There's no direct parallels I can think of, just the overall feeling I usd to get watching Saturday morning cartoons, but with a much darker edge.
There is some content warnings for abuse and self harm (blood magic) and serious injury and death.

This was a good fast paced start to this new series, I loved the artwork and the color palette the illustrations were beautiful yet simple and the vibrant colors popped off the page. The story took me a moment to get into as we are just dropped into the storyline without much worldbuilding but as the plot develops I became invested in this story. The different magical families intrigued me and the magic types and lore were interesting and fun to see on the page. It ends in a great spot and now I am awaiting the next volume in the fall!
I received an eARC thanks to Netgalley and Ten Speed Graphic. All opinions are my own.

This graphic was amazing !! The ambience is dark, spooky, mysterious... The story is original and the characters are really nice. The drawings have beautiful colors and create the perfect atmosphere to spend a great reading time. I hope it will be translated in french !

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Darkly enchanting and unapologetically eerie, Muted: Volume 1 is a bold debut that melds magic, silence, and survival in a world that demands obedience. Miranda Mundt has crafted a unique tale where power doesn’t come without price, and those who wield it must reckon with their own darkness.
The visuals and tone are striking—moody forests, deep crimson spells, and a protagonist who refuses to disappear. It’s gritty, full of tension, and lays the groundwork for something big. As the first volume in a series, it sets up an ambitious narrative that I’m eager to follow.

It was fine. The art was very pretty, I'll admit, but the story didn't do much for me. Still, I'll try the second volume.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
I never saw this on Webtoon so I was looking forward to reading it. It did not disappoint. I'm interested to learn more about Camille's magic and how it works. I looked into the story and found out its poly and sapphic!! I adore that. I don't think I've read books that had a poly relationship with multiple women. The magic world was interesting too. I'll be looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
How have I not heard of this series before!?! I'm so glad I found it on NetGalley and received an advanced copy, so I am very happy to review this one. The art work is gorgeous and I love anything and everything about it especially because it is full of witches. The storyline is so good. I can't wait to see where it goes and I'm in luck I got volume 2 as an ARC too!!!
13 years ago a fire killed Camille's mother and twin and now she has to return home in the swampland of Louisiana. Her Aunt Athalie is now the head of the Severin House. Now that Camille is of age she now must perform a demon summoning blood ritual that everyone in her family must do. Camille seems to only disappoint her aunt and when its time something goes wrong, and she only has one more month to get it right.

Muted: Volume 1 is an atmospheric and captivating read. Miranda Mundt creates a world that feels both intimate and mysterious, with striking visuals that draw you in from the first page. The characters are intriguing, and the story builds in a way that keeps you hooked without ever rushing. It has a moody, almost haunting vibe that lingers, and I’m definitely excited to see where the series goes next. A strong, memorable start.

This was such a nice quick read. I hate that it took me so long to actually pick it up. The characters, setting, and overall vibe pulled me in. I did not want to put this book down and now I’m sad that it’s over.

Muted, is an absolute visual treat. The illustrations are witchy, moody, and completely immersive. The atmosphere pulls you in right away, and the pacing keeps you hooked from start to finish. I devoured it in one sitting and was left wanting more. The blend of beautiful art and compelling story makes this a standout. I can’t wait for the next installment.

While I am glad there were content warnings at the start of this book, those same warnings should have been on the Netgalley posting. I might have chosen differently if the dark themes were presented upfront.
The artwork is beautiful. Unfortunately, that's about the only redeeming quality here. Nothing is explained about the world of the witches, and no one (even Camille) is particularly likeable. Except the grandma, more of her.

Absolutely adore the style of art, witchy world of magic, and dreamy New Orleans setting! What a wonderful introduction. Can't wait to return to these characters in Vol. 2!

Muted is a gripping story right from the start, with mystery drawing you in and keeping you hooked. The parallels between extremely strict families / cults is really intriguing as well, showing how much prejudice and lies can shape a person's perspective. I'm definitely looking forward to the next volume.

I first started reading Muted on Webtoon, but I struggled with that platform, so I had to stop. I'm glad to see that it's been picked up for publishing, so I get to continue reading the story. I love the art style, and I'm interested to see where the story goes.
Muted follows Camille, a witch who is about to undergo an important ritual for her family. She had a traumatic fire happen 13 years ago, and she lost her mother and sister. Afterwards, she was raised by her aunt, who treated her terribly. The ritual goes wrong, of course, and now she's staying out at the family manor instead of returning to the city. As she spends more time there, she's learning more about some family secrets and developing new friendships with witches outside the Severin family.
I enjoyed this graphic novel. The art is bright and colorful. I love seeing all the familiars and watching the magic come to life. I like that there is a lot of exposition and narration to explain what's going on. It pulls me into the world much more. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of this story to see what other secrets there are to discover and what the creepy demon stalking Camille is going to do. This is advertised as a sapphic romance, and I do see that coming to fruition in later volumes, but that isn't a strong trope in this first volume. Much of the story is still being set up, so I can definitely see it developing more in the future.
Overall, this was really good. I liked it a lot, and I'm looking forward to reading more.

I've already read the beginning of Muted when it was on Webtoon, but it was really enjoyable to go back into this universe with this arc.
The story of Camille isn't easy, but this tale about family expectations, childhood trauma, and self-acceptance is essential. Also, I'm never against sapphic romance, so that's definitely a plus.
Finally, the art style is amazing, full of colors and darkness, which really helps to transport you into this world of witches and power.

⭐⭐⭐.5
Pre-Read Notes:
I thought the artwork on the cover was absolutely beautiful and I loved the last YA graphic novel that I read, Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughn and Cliff Chiang. I really thought I would love this book just as much. Thank you to the author and publisher for including content warnings in the front matter.
Final Review
(thoughts & recs) One of my favorite parts is 265 pages in, which marks a significant quickening of pace. Unfortunately, the story here is built entirely upon dialog. If you've never visually beheld people talking for almost 300 pages, I promise it's as boring as it sounds.
I know some readers are really enamored with characters and their development, especially dialog, and don't really care if everything else is missing. Those are the readers I would recommend this one to. Also readers who enjoy fantasy themes will enjoy this.
My 5 Favorite Things:
✔️ I absolutely adore when authors and publishers decide to include content/trigger warnings. I firmly believe all books should include them.
✔️ This book is completely gorgeous, but I don't have a good handle on the plot or characters. It's hard to tell a story in panels, using only subtext and dialog! *edit Character work is starting to come together.
✔️ The pace picks up by the end of the book. The conflict felt too flat before that though.
✔️ The bonus material at the end is probably my favorite section in the book. It's such an accessible, authentic scene.
✔️ I'm not always big on fantasy but the characters in this book are easy to relate to and very human, while also being whatever else they are, which helped ground me in this story. I enjoyed the demon element also, I think the treatment of this myth is fresh.
Notes:
1. Content notes: witchcraft, self-harm, blades, blood, violence against children, abandonment, demons, ableist language (crazy), alcohol, alcohol consumption, blackout, loss of consciousness/memory, self-harm, cutting, para s*icidal behavior
Thank you to the author Miranda Mundt, Clarkson Potter / Ten Speed Press, and NetGalley for an advance digital copy of MUTED: VOL I. All views are mine.

Thank you to Ten Speed Press for the e-arc of this graphic novel! I remember reading this when it was first published on Webtoon and I knew I HAD to reread it now that it was being published! I actually had forgotten quite a bit of the story and was immediately swept into the New Orleans witch society. It felt so atmospheric, rich, and neo-Gothic., with such a compelling story. I felt for Camille, especially with her oppressive family and the microscope over her actions. I liked the side characters from other families, they were so kind and welcoming, despite all the family politics. I can’t wait to read the next volume!! 5 🌟

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this story!
I think this story was ok. I cant see myself re-reading it but by the end of this I was interested in this. I say by the end because it took me a while to actually get into the story. The beginning was just a little boring to me. I wish they would have showed more of the plant magic but im sure that will come in the next volume.
