This was such a lovely read. A bit witchy, a bit whimsical, with a great story and great representation. The art is a fun mix of toon and manga, the illustrators style is pretty unique but so well done.

I’m dying to read the second one now!!

Very intrigued by Muted Volume 1 and can't wait to continue reading the series! A unique and interesting story that grapples with loss and self-discovery in a great way!

The color and illustrations in this novel will have you wrapped up in the story as you travel alongside Camille. Camille is just learning how to hone her powers in her family of witches, and her familiar, a bird named Soot, is constantly in her ear as an (attempted) voice of reason. The reader is pulled along as Camille learns, the hard way, who is worthy of her trust.

While this is a book for adults, I think teens and new adult readers would gain a lot from reading this coming-of-age story. "Muted" explores themes of what it means to inherit your family name, and the struggles that can ensue when trying to forge your own legacy.

Muted: Volume 1 is a lovely graphic novel with a unique worldbuilding and storyline that'll make you ask for more. I love how it's a mix of lighthearted and hopeful but at the same time, it has the perfect amount of dark and tragic. The art style is gorgeous, the magic system is something I'd want to know more and devour and I am here for it all

5 stars!
Muted: Volume 1 is a gorgeous, atmospheric graphic novel that blends magic, self-discovery, and the early stirrings of sapphic romance into something truly special. With rich themes of grief, trauma, and emotional neglect, the story explores how a young woman, Camille, finds her own power, identity, and healing through the strength of self-belief and found family.

As soon as I was 20% into this ARC provided by NetGalley, I preordered the physical copy. I knew I had to have it in my hands the moment it was released. I absolutely adore this story and am absolutely itching to continue with the series. The illustrations are absolutely stunning, with gorgeous colors that perfectly complement the eerie yet cozy tone of the story. While the narrative does touch on heavy themes, they’re handled with care and beautifully balanced by moments of warmth, friendship, and hope.

This is perfect for readers who love witchy, spooky stories with heart, and especially for younger readers looking for a strong, relatable protagonist who navigates the complexities of family expectations and self-worth. This will be a series that my pre-teen daughter and I will read together for sure. Camille’s journey is inspiring, and I can’t wait to see where her magic takes her next.

3.5⭐️
Ok so I am NOT typically a graphic novel girlie! But I saw this and it looked really interesting with themes that I love!
A polyamorous sapphic which book? Yes please.

For the good- the artwork was great! Even from someone who isn’t into that type of art the pictures were well done and did a great job telling the story that was written.

What I had trouble with was that the flow was very stilted and I don’t mean that in the typical sense as obviously prose can’t flow in a graphic novel like it does in a regular novel but it jumps through some parts really quickly so in 3 pages so much has technically happened but without real explanation. I think that’s the challenge. The book (which is in 2 parts and this is part 1) has so much that it wants to say that is just not doable in a graphic novel format. Whiplash is what I would use.

That being said, I want to read the second one as I want to know what happens! Especially since the romance is not really existent in part one so the description seems a bit misleading. I hope and expect it’ll be fleshed out more in part 2?

Part one comes out July 8th 2025.

I am thankful to have gotten a complimentary eARC from Ten Speed Press through NetGalley to read which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.

My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars

⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

Muted by far was one of the best webtoons I ever read. So of course I had to get this volume to support the author. The art style in this is just absolutely beautiful, that was half the reason I loved it so much. I love these characters with my whole heart for real and I’m happy that the author was finally able to publish this series.

Camille was orphaned by a fire when she was little, and left in the care of her aunt, who hates her and treats her very badly. She was trained to perform a family ritual and summon a demon, but she senses it's not what she wants, that something is wrong, and yes, something goes wrong...

I read it in one sitting, and I really want to know how this story continues.

A darkly woven tale that uniquely spins fairy tale tropes.

I liked Muted. The colors are vibrantly dark with glimpses of light colors conveying warm and safe spaces/characters. Now, for the story? It's a painstakingly slow crawl, and it's too mundane with the magical elements introduced in the beginning that it left me with a bout of whiplash. It's good, just ... not what I was expecting.

There's an audience for Muted. Unfortunately, I am not one of them.

I really enjoyed this story and the art style. It's a very quick read, and I would have liked more time for the plot to develop, but it still does a great job establishing the rules and fundamental relationships underpinning the magical society we're in.
I love the queerness and witchiness, and the familiars are so cute.

It's also always nice to have a content warning up front. Ultimately I didn't find any of the issues flagged to be handled in a way that felt gratuitous or triggering, but it was very helpful to know what to expect.

I'm looking forward to reading the next volume.

I got to the end of this volume and instantly wanted to keep reading. I was curious about the main character and loved the organic way information unfolded to provide the reader with why she is different than most witches and how that could be a problem. It is sad and tragic, but I hope over all the story will end up being cozy and uplifiting.

I loved everything about this book! The images were beautiful the characters were both equally lovable and loathsome (in a good way) and the story was intriguing.
I love a family of witches and secrets and this really delivered. I can’t wait to continue the story!

First off, this is one of the most stunning graphic novels I’ve ever read! The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, and the choices of colors and textures used were so visually appealing!

I adored the main character Camille, a young lesbian witch who reminded me a lot of Poison Ivy! I really enjoyed reading about her lore, her developing plant powers, and her community of witches. Speaking of the other witches, the characters in this story are so diverse and each have their own individual aesthetics which was really fun. The familiars were also very adorable. I’m super excited to read volume 2, I can’t wait to see how the story and Camille’s relationship with Dendrobium progresses! (Fingers crossed Camille develops a ritual that creates a Venus flytrap to eat her evil aunt)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!!! 🫶🏼

Muted by Miranda Mundt is the first volume in a haunting story of a coming of age witch who is trying to figure out who she is and how she fits into the world. The illustrations are beautiful and draw the reader into the story. I can't wait to read the next volume!

Thank you to NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphic for the eARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC copy of Muted: Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt.

There is truly nothing I can say beyond - I am obsessed.

Camille is such an intricate and multi-levelled character (and not just through her bloodline), that as the main character, she's wonderful to follow and learn about as she learns about who she truly is and grows in her magic.

The cast of characters is diverse with both likeable and dislikable (in a good way) people to get to know alongside Camille - with cute familiars as an added bonus. How they all fit within the world and their interactions are wonderfully complex, especially given how people see the Severin family, and how Athalie runs their household as Matriarch. It's a given that people, Camille herself included, act out based on outward judgements but it was lovely to watch relationships form despite that. Every page had me itching to learn more.

The art style was beautiful and really fit the story. None of the panels felt like there was too much going on and it really added to the pleasant reading experience.

What a wild ride!

Muted is a story about a young woman, Camille, with a troubled past that she has almost entirely suppressed. You find out pretty quickly (no spoilers here) that she lost her parents in a tragic accident as a child and she’s being raised by her aunt, living with her cousin.

Along comes the family ritual that is going to determine a large part of the rest of her life and it… doesn’t go well. So, what’s the deal? Why isn’t she like her cousin? She’s talented. She’s practiced and is ready for this ritual. Why didn’t it go the way it’s supposed to go?

That’s where the storyline really picks up. Without giving any spoilers, I can say the plot thickens and it will draw you in. You find out a lot about what happened in Camille’s past and how those events have shaped her present and future. You meet kind, compassionate, diverse characters along the way that help Camille navigate what she’s going through. This is simply volume 1 but I’m here for it and can’t wait to read more.

It's a nice novel so far!

I am liking the story and plot. Nice to see a witchy novel like this!
However sometimes I am in search of who was says what when speach bubbles werent very clear on that.
I also got stuck on the way things were said a couple of times. Overall it didn't bother me to much and it didnt put off from the overall story.
There are a lot of different characters with their own vibes. Some needed some time to grow on me but they are all beautifully drawn in a way that fits their personality. The artstyle is really nice, very expressive whenever something big happens and duller when its a casual dialoge. It stays in the same vibe but adjusts to the moments which gives it a nice dimension. Some of the facial expressions are great too, especially from the little kid!

I am curious to see where it goes from here!
