I absolutely loved this story! Muted is the story of a young witch learning all about her powers and certain family secrets. Along the way she makes new friends, reconnects with old ones and begins to learn who she is when she lets go of harsh expectations.
I am obsessed with this story. I absolutely love Camille and her story line. Camille's story is so tragic in the beginning but she's a firecracker determined to become more then what's she's been trained to be.I'm really enjoy the supporting characters as well. I can't wait to see how some of these relationships play out.
I think this book was a wonderful introduction to the amazing story that is sure to come and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Always love seeing Webcomics make their way into print format!
This was my first time coming across Muted and I am already in love with the art style! The story itself too has a really cool premise and I can already tell Camille is on her way through an incredible character arc. The touch of romance is cute and the mysteries brought up make me want to read more!
I do wish there had been just a little more time developing some of the world building --- is all romance between witches forbidden or just any romance resulting in a child? It was briefly mentioned that Camille thought only women could do magic; is that a fact or something she was made to believe by her family? Little things like that that kept building some confusion for me throughout.
All said, very much enjoyed this and looking forward to Vol 2!
(I'd also like to note this copy had some typos and speech balloon errors which I am assuming have been fixed for the final copy)

Thank you NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphic for the ARC!
I absolutely love the artwork and the attention to details. The plot itself is great, just wish it were less info dump, since there's a lot of things going on. I also love the attention and respect towards the main characters feeling of loss and grief, and how she feels through her struggles of trying to understand her life and who she really is. Just a few grammatical errors here and there that need some editing, but for the most part was well written.

I missed reading this series! I remember waiting for the episodes to come out on webtoon.
A great story about self discovery in all aspects. Family, sexuality, and personality.
A witch who has no memory of who she is from the age of 8 rediscovering herself at the age of 21. Beautiful artwork and I'm already craving more!

Review:
I had read this as a Webtoon a while ago and I almost forgot how much I loved the story. Camille is amazing and though this is just the start of her journey, it's amazing. It keeps you engaged and wanting to learn more alongside her. I loved so many characters and their connections to Camille, even those just forming like Nyra and Tobin, Camille's woodpecker familiar, the plant demon, Dendro, which Camille summoned, and even her father's family. I loved the art so much, it's really vivid. I do think there are many more secrets to learn. Athalie was a character I almost instantly hated. She is rigid and unkind and not just towards Camille but her own daughter, Avaline. I am glad that she had her after losing her family, even if she had to stay with Athalie. Overall I enjoyed this beginning to Camille's journey and can't wait for more.

I was so excited that I got an ARC for this graphic novel as it was already on my wishlist! I love a magical story and this one is just so fun and intriguing. Had some funny moments and a couple little twists! I am so excited to see what happens in future installments :)
Thank you NetGalley for the arc! 💗

I devoured this book in one sitting! It was amazing and I loved it!
This one started with two cousins: Camille and Avaline. Camille's mother and sibling died in a fire that no one has ever figured out what caused. When both cousins reach the age for the ritual coming-of-age summoning, Avaline knocks it out of the ballpark, but Camille, not so much. She was unsure, and hers did not work out how it was supposed to.
However, Avaline returns to New Orleans with her mother, and Camille stays behind to work on her summoning and healing. It was nice to be introduced to the different witch families and learn about their strengths and the different magics associated with them.
The illustrations are on point and the storyline is engaging overall it was a really great experience! I loved it and I recommend it! However, there is one downfall: Volume 2 will not be out until October!!! 😭
Thank you Netgalley and Webcomic for the opportunity to read this one! It is addicting!

Fun concept! It could use a thorough edit - I found a handful of typos and stumbled through a few trudge-y sentences, but the story is well-told.
The illustration is top tier with a masterful use of color and movement.
Characters are well-rounded with good setup to delve further into their motivations. I hope this happens in the next installments.
I’m looking forward to the next one, but not champing at the bit. I’m sure this will change as the plot unfolds (one way or the other lol)
Solid. Huge potential. Not quite ready for pub

The artwork in this is STUNNING. So vibrant and colorful. The story? It was alright. I think that this first volume just had too much going on - it was too big and didn't allow for much development and substance. There are various kinds of representation in the book that I appreciated and that added an enjoyable element to the story.

I absolutely adored the witchy vibes and vibrant colors in this graphic novel! It was an enchanting blend of charm and creativity that made the whole experience so much fun. The artwork was captivating, and the story had a playful yet intriguing tone that kept me hooked from start to finish. It’s a delightful read that truly stands out with its whimsical style!

I got this as an arc on Netgalley and it will come out in July. I loved this comic so much! It's a witchy queer found family, with heavier themes in it. It's the first novel in the series and it is setting up next installments fantastically.

It is a rather emotional fantasy graphic novel that can connect with a large number of readers, either because they like fantasy, stories about witches or because they have feelings similar to those of the protagonist or a similar childhood/past.
In Muted we explore a world where there are several families of witches distributed in covens. Every family has a type of magic that defines them, and our protagonist's family's magic is blood magic. However, she feels alienated from her family and her magic, as she “fails” every time she has to cast an important spell. The day she was supposed to summon a greater demon, everything went wrong (or at least that's what she thought), and she ended up injured and left in the old property for a month. During these days she will discover great secrets about herself and her family.
I really liked how grief is treated and the weight of wanting to please others, trying to be what they want you to be and not what you really are or what you are destined to be.
I loved the author's art style, but I feel that in some panels it loses some details and becomes more flat. As if the design loses the strength that we see in other pages.

I love a good witchy ya book, but this one had a plot twist that made it even better! It is beautifully drawn with interesting characters and I'm super excited for the second one!

A couple of typos and inconsistencies aside, this is perfect! I love a NOLA witch story, and even though some of the story beats are predictable, they're still very satisfying and the read is an exciting one! I'm looking forward to purchasing Vol 1 and reading the next installment(s)!

I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did! The art and plot really held my attention and by the end I was begging for more ! I’m glad that I’m giving graphic novels/mangas a chance this year or else I would have missed out on the beauty that is Muted.

I’d never heard of this webcomic before I read this ARC. Muted follows 21-year-old Camille, a niece of the Severin witch family matriarch (and daughter of the former, before her mother and twin sister died in a greenhouse fire). Camille and her cousin, her only confidante, are coming up on the Severin ritual to summon a demon and … choose the next matriarch? I’m not totally clear, but things go awry and Camille discovers that her past and future may not be what she thought.
This graphic novel is gorgeous. The colors are vibrant but definitely fit the witchy vibe of the story. The chapter cards in particular could be sold as prints. Stylistically this novel would be a nice crossover from superhero comic books that middle grade audiences might already like. I could see it being a good gateway into new topics and plot lines—and there was certainly more diversity seamlessly woven in than in most traditional comics I’ve seen. I loved the budding (no pun intended) sapphic romance and all of the mystery within the plot. Some of my students would eat this up.
Even though this first volume didn’t really get anywhere conclusively, it was still satisfying to learn a bit about the different covens. I’d read the next volume to see not only where this story goes, but also to hopefully learn more about the other covens and the members of Camille’s own family who have clearly been hiding some secrets. I’d love for more depth from the characters we’ve already been introduced to—Camille’s cousin Avaline needs more screen time as the daughter of the wretched Athalie! And I need more of Nyra and why she’s even at the Severin estate without Athalie knowing… I want backstory on Camille’s parents. I want to know what’s going on with the demon witch (???) and greenhouse demon (???) and if everything will wind up being connected. Basically, there are A LOT of threads here, and I’m apprehensive about whether this series will stick the landing, but I’m interested to go along for the ride. (So many mixed metaphors.)
I am very much hoping that the many, many typos are fixed before this is published because they often took me “out” of the story, but I’m trying not to worry because this was just an ARC!
This ARC was provided by Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press via NetGalley in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Soft DNF at 20%. I enjoyed the artwork and found the premise of this graphic novel really interesting, but I was having a hard time connecting with the story. There are also a few grammatical/spelling errors (e.g., "witches genetics" instead of "witch's genetics") that were a bit distracting to me even though I imagine they'll be fixed in the final version. I might come back to this at some point but don't want to force myself to finish something I'm not really liking.

This graphic novel was so good! I can’t wait for volume 2! I just read 3 bad graphic novels back to back and this was a breath of fresh air. Loved.

I really enjoyed Muted: Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt. The story is gripping from the start, with a dark atmosphere that really pulls you in. The art is gorgeous—there’s something about the color choices that perfectly sets the tone for each scene. I loved how the illustrations helped bring out the emotional depth of the characters.
The characters themselves are well-developed, and I found myself really connecting with their struggles. The theme of mental health is handled with care, and it made the story feel both powerful and real. I can’t wait to see where the next volume takes us!
Definitely looking forward to continuing this journey. Big thanks to NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphic for the early copy

Muted is set in Louisianan and follows a young witch Camille, struggling with her witchy powers and disappointing her family. The story follows her as she learns more about herself and this is definitely only the beginning of her story. Loved the diverse characters and the different types of witches we encounter in this story.
The art style was super cute and fun. My only complaint is that it wasn’t longer! Looking forward to when they publish more.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!
