A darkly woven tale that uniquely spins fairy tale tropes.

I liked Muted. The colors are vibrantly dark with glimpses of light colors conveying warm and safe spaces/characters. Now, for the story? It's a painstakingly slow crawl, and it's too mundane with the magical elements introduced in the beginning that it left me with a bout of whiplash. It's good, just ... not what I was expecting.

There's an audience for Muted. Unfortunately, I am not one of them.

I really enjoyed this story and the art style. It's a very quick read, and I would have liked more time for the plot to develop, but it still does a great job establishing the rules and fundamental relationships underpinning the magical society we're in.
I love the queerness and witchiness, and the familiars are so cute.

It's also always nice to have a content warning up front. Ultimately I didn't find any of the issues flagged to be handled in a way that felt gratuitous or triggering, but it was very helpful to know what to expect.

I'm looking forward to reading the next volume.

Sapphic fantasy graphic novel with some family drama and amazing artwork. I'm excited to continue the series.

I got to the end of this volume and instantly wanted to keep reading. I was curious about the main character and loved the organic way information unfolded to provide the reader with why she is different than most witches and how that could be a problem. It is sad and tragic, but I hope over all the story will end up being cozy and uplifiting.

I loved everything about this book! The images were beautiful the characters were both equally lovable and loathsome (in a good way) and the story was intriguing.
I love a family of witches and secrets and this really delivered. I can’t wait to continue the story!

First off, this is one of the most stunning graphic novels I’ve ever read! The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, and the choices of colors and textures used were so visually appealing!

I adored the main character Camille, a young lesbian witch who reminded me a lot of Poison Ivy! I really enjoyed reading about her lore, her developing plant powers, and her community of witches. Speaking of the other witches, the characters in this story are so diverse and each have their own individual aesthetics which was really fun. The familiars were also very adorable. I’m super excited to read volume 2, I can’t wait to see how the story and Camille’s relationship with Dendrobium progresses! (Fingers crossed Camille develops a ritual that creates a Venus flytrap to eat her evil aunt)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!!! 🫶🏼

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me access to this Volume before release.

I read this story in one sitting! It's a great storyline followed with beautiful artwork. I love how the story is also inclusive and sweet. The pacing is great, it kept my attention the full time.
I will not hesitate to read the other volumes as soon as I can!! 🧙‍♀️

Muted by Miranda Mundt is the first volume in a haunting story of a coming of age witch who is trying to figure out who she is and how she fits into the world. The illustrations are beautiful and draw the reader into the story. I can't wait to read the next volume!

Thank you to NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphic for the eARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC copy of Muted: Volume 1 by Miranda Mundt.

There is truly nothing I can say beyond - I am obsessed.

Camille is such an intricate and multi-levelled character (and not just through her bloodline), that as the main character, she's wonderful to follow and learn about as she learns about who she truly is and grows in her magic.

The cast of characters is diverse with both likeable and dislikable (in a good way) people to get to know alongside Camille - with cute familiars as an added bonus. How they all fit within the world and their interactions are wonderfully complex, especially given how people see the Severin family, and how Athalie runs their household as Matriarch. It's a given that people, Camille herself included, act out based on outward judgements but it was lovely to watch relationships form despite that. Every page had me itching to learn more.

The art style was beautiful and really fit the story. None of the panels felt like there was too much going on and it really added to the pleasant reading experience.

What a wild ride!

Muted is a story about a young woman, Camille, with a troubled past that she has almost entirely suppressed. You find out pretty quickly (no spoilers here) that she lost her parents in a tragic accident as a child and she’s being raised by her aunt, living with her cousin.

Along comes the family ritual that is going to determine a large part of the rest of her life and it… doesn’t go well. So, what’s the deal? Why isn’t she like her cousin? She’s talented. She’s practiced and is ready for this ritual. Why didn’t it go the way it’s supposed to go?

That’s where the storyline really picks up. Without giving any spoilers, I can say the plot thickens and it will draw you in. You find out a lot about what happened in Camille’s past and how those events have shaped her present and future. You meet kind, compassionate, diverse characters along the way that help Camille navigate what she’s going through. This is simply volume 1 but I’m here for it and can’t wait to read more.

It's a nice novel so far!

I am liking the story and plot. Nice to see a witchy novel like this!
However sometimes I am in search of who was says what when speach bubbles werent very clear on that.
I also got stuck on the way things were said a couple of times. Overall it didn't bother me to much and it didnt put off from the overall story.
There are a lot of different characters with their own vibes. Some needed some time to grow on me but they are all beautifully drawn in a way that fits their personality. The artstyle is really nice, very expressive whenever something big happens and duller when its a casual dialoge. It stays in the same vibe but adjusts to the moments which gives it a nice dimension. Some of the facial expressions are great too, especially from the little kid!

I am curious to see where it goes from here!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!

I love a sapphic, witchy read, so this was right up my alley. My favourite part of this graphic novel was the drawings. The colours, lines, and movement of the drawings were so wonderful to look at.

The storyline was really intriguing, it gave perfect magical vibes and I loved the inclusion of the family dynamics. It took me a second to get into the book, but once I was in, I was in.

After reading this book, I am interested in reading the next volume. I really want to see how the story and the relationship play out.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of Muted.

Sometimes there's comics where I may enjoy the story but not the art style or vice versa but Muted was a solid book on both fronts, an enjoyable read with a nice art style. I'd not heard of Muted before picking up the ARC but the premise was intriguing off the bat. I also love a good witch familiar and Muted didn't disappoint on that front. I'll definitely keep an eye out for volume 2 in the future to see what happens in our protagonist's future as the world that's been setup so far is interesting and I'm rooting for a queer romance to unfold.

Thanks to NetGalley & Ten speed press for an advance copy of this title.

I'd have to say my biggest complaint is I really wanted to read the next volume as soon as I finished this one!

Muted is volume 1 of a witchy graphic novel series about found families & magic gone awry.

Be prepared for LGBTQ themes.

I'm dying to discover more about these characters & their world. There was just enough back story about Camille & the tragedy surrounding the death of her mother & sister to leave me eagerly waiting for the next volume to get more answers,
There was so many things to love between the art & the story. I adored each witches familiars--from the foxes to Camille's woodpecker Toben & they fit their characters perfectly. My guess is the next volume will explore some of the darker themes hinted at in this volume & I am here for it.
I can't recommend this highly enough.

I absolutely loved this! I was instantly drawn into the world and the characters! I thought that the plot and idea was very well thought out.

I really liked the relationships between the characters and the different families. The art was also very nice!! I loved the colors and character designs! I especially loved the plant and nature elements!

I am very excited to read more about Camille and her journey discovering herself and her magic!

OMG what a fun magical witchy comic! I loved the art and the story, and she's sapphic too! Can't wait for the next volume!

Thanks to NetGalley and Ten Speed Graphic for a copy of this ARC!

This art style is amazing! I loved seeing Cammie come into herself more and the potentially new family she has found herself with! I thought this was going to be darker than it was which is a lovely suprise (I can't always handle super dark themes). The balance of the timelines has been handled so well and I feel like the choices being made by Cammie are somewhat sensible. Can't wait to read volume 2!

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

This was a great witchy comic about a young woman in New Orleans in a complicated situation after surviving tragedy in her youth and being Brough up by her severe aunt. After her ritual goes wrong, she stays on at the manor without her aunt and learns more about herself, the other witch families, and their different relationships to magic and each other.

Look, you show me a black sheep doing her best with a shitty family and there's witches and she's sapphic?! I'm a happy gal.

The art and writing are great.

I had a really good time and I'm excited to get into the second volume!

This tragic story had me from the beginning. love the idea that the main character is more than just a witch like her mother, there is more to her. the art is fantastic and such an enjoy to read. . some grammar was off but i think because it was a digital copy.
