Love the witchy vibes and the different families.the familiars are really cute and the hint at the romance is kind of cute. Still intriguing mystery surrounding her mother's death.
The plant demon seems kind of cute.

Thirteen years after a tragic fire, Camille is forced to return to her ancestral home in the Louisiana swamps to perform a powerful summoning ritual required by her coldhearted aunt. When the ritual fails, she escapes into the wild, where she finds unexpected peace, companionship, and time to uncover hidden truths. As she reconnects with lost family and learns more about her unique magic, Camille begins to unravel the mystery behind her mother and sister’s deaths.

The first volume in this WebToon graphic novels sets the stage for a witchy romp in NoLa where mysteries abound. I loved everything about this book. The story was captivating and the illustrations were superb. I was hooked from the onset and cannot wait to get my hands on Vol. 2. I need to see what happens next!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

“Muted: Volume 1” has a beautiful art style, especially the character’s outfits really stood out to me.

The storyline is intriguing and full of mystery, it left me with lots of questions.

There wasn’t much romance in this volume yet, but it seems like that part of the story will develop in the future.

Overall, this was a good start to the series, and I’m looking forward to reading more.

This is a captivating graphic novel that intertwines witchcraft, familial secrets, and queer romance within the atmospheric setting of New Orleans. This debut volume introduces Camille, a young witch from a powerful lineage, whose life takes a tumultuous turn following a summoning ritual gone awry. As Camille delves deeper into her family’s enigmatic past, she uncovers layers of mystery, magic, and personal identity.

The illustrations utilize vibrant colors and expressive character designs which not only complements the narrative but also enhances the magical ambiance of the story. The novel also presents an intriguing magical system, complete with unique familiars and diverse witch families. I also really enjoyed each of our characters, their unique personalities, and how they all relate or interact with each other.

Overall, this is a great graphic novel for those who love witchy vibes and full color artwork. I am personally very excited for the next installation in this series.

While I enjoyed this first installment of "Muted" I think this series would be more appreciated by a young adult reader. The themes regarding growing up and what path to take I think would resonate better with a young adult audience. I did find the plot of the story to be intriguing and this it will be a great series to read.

I really enjoyed this and I'm super excited to get to the next volume! The art was so beautiful and perfect for the type of story this is. It's such an interesting storyline.

I read Muted during it's initial run on WebToons, and fell deeply, deeply in love with it. That love still remains, and I look forward to owning a physical edition of it. Being a comic that was originally formatted for the scrolling nature of WebToons, there are one or two points where I think it'll lose a touch of the impact that turning a page necessitates, but that is the most minor of qualms. In all other respects, for me this is a perfect story, and I'm happy we get a bonus chapter, as well!

The artwork is beautiful but the story didn't hold my interest and there were typos. Maybe subsequent volumes will be better.

Muted is a graphic novel about witches.
The main female character, Camille Severin is a part of the Matriarch bloodline of witches. It is her turn to draw the sigil to summon a bird demon that will grant her any wish she desires. For her bloodlines sake, she needs to make a wish that will ensure the continued stability of her bloodline for future generations... but it feels wrong to her.

Camille's aunt and Matriarch (which means shes the head of the family), Athalie holds nothing but contempt for Camille and almost doesn't allow her to perform the ritual and considers her dead weight. She is cruel and harsh, and as an orphan, Camille feels alienated and like she doesn't belong with her extended family. The ritual goes wrong and certain secrets come to light.

The characters were loveable and I enjoyed their roles in the story. The artwork is gorgeous and I loved all the details and colors. I literally yelled "NOOOOO," when I suddenly came to the end. 😂 I really enjoyed the story and I'm excited to see where it goes.

I wasn't sure what to expect with Muted but I was quickly surprised, I enjoy all aspects of this story, its beautifully drawn graphic novel.

Following the story of Camille, who had experienced a great loss as child and starting her tale with a summoning gone wrong.
I enjoyed watching her figure out some hidden truths and learning about her own/family history.

I am excited to see Camille find her place in a world she feels so lost and abandoned in, finding her own happiness that she deserves.

I have quickly requested volume 2 as I need to know what happens next!

This book is gorgeous and engaging enough that I immediately went and grabbed the ARC for Volume 2.

This isn't quite five stars for me because it ended on a cliffhanger that would have made me pretty upset about waiting for Volume 2.

There are also a few too many characters for some of them to get proper story time, even in a relatively large volume, and a lot of politics that I only just feel like I'm beginning to understand. If I were coming here from the webcomic, maybe that would be different, but I'm not and a lot of the folks who pick this up when it launches won't be either.

ARC provided by Netgalley.

"It’s okay if you like.. plants"

I didn't know how much I needed this story until I got my little goblin hands on it. I devoured this volume like it was my job. This was a webtoon I had skipped over reading in the webtoon app and feel awfully stupid now for doing so. The artwork is stunning, from the actual character art to the color pallet and the scenery, it all draws you in and sets the mood.

Camille is a young witch who lives with her aunt and her cousin after losing her twin sister and her mother in a fire when she was very young. Before the fire she had lost her father in an accident. Shes been repressing her true self ever since the fire. She feels as if who she is and what she can do is never going to be good enough for her aunt and the rest of her family.

A series of events leads her in to discovering the truth about herself, her family, and the world of witches that she thought she knew, but is learning she knows very little about.

As Camille discovers herself, her heart, her family things start to take a turn for the better, and somewhat more chaotic.

This is a world of witches, familiars, demons and more. There is so much love, diverse representation and acceptance.

I'm rooting for Camille to find her path in this magical wonderful witchy world. The Cliff hanger has me hanging on and reaching for volume two!

Muted: Volume One totally surprised me—in the best way. It’s got this dark, magical vibe set in New Orleans, and the main character, Camille, is super easy to root for. The whole thing kicks off with a summoning ritual gone wrong, and from there, it just keeps pulling you in deeper.
The art is seriously stunning. The colors, the character expressions—everything just works. It’s one of those graphic novels where you want to linger on every page. And the story has heart, too. It touches on family, identity, and figuring out who you are without getting overly heavy.
If you’re into witches, secrets, and beautiful storytelling, this one’s definitely worth a read. Can’t wait for volume two. out. Can’t wait for more! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5!

I originally read this on Webtoon a few years ago. I was so excited when I heard it was getting a physical release. It was really great to see how the panels were adapted to fill a page. It would be difficult to tell that it was originally published in a scrolling format.

The first volume reminded me just how strong of an opening this story has. It really draws you in with the atmosphere. The art definitely makes the book, each panel looks so polished but dynamic.

I’m really excited to dive into the next volume!

I had a great time reading this book. The art style was gorgeous with great colors. The first volume was really interesting, with great lore, great characters. The sapphic romance will be interesting as well as the development of Camille.
Can't wait for the second volume

Muted reads like an original fairytale, carrying an immersive sense of magic that flows through every page and illustration. Mundt’s art possesses the lush, atmospheric intensity of some of my favorite graphic novel illustrations, calling to mind the intense, dark art of Molly Knox Ostertag’s The Witch Boy, and with all of the complex characters. Camille is a truly wonderful protagonist who I couldn’t help but root for—her genuine heart and desire to find somewhere she belongs made me immediately like her, and she propels this story forward. She’s often flawed and confused, but that makes her even better, making her someone I don’t just want to succeed, but can empathize with myself. I also love this entire world, augmented by the illustrations—it feels so close to ours and yet utterly more magical. This series is definitely one I’ll want to be keeping an eye on!

Thank you to NetGalley and Ten Speed Press for the e-arc!

Muted follows Camille, who is still grieving the loss of her mother and twin sister. The last thing Camille wants to do is return to her old home deep in the swamps of Louisiana. When the time comes for Camille to perform the demon-summoning blood ritual that every prospective matriarch in her family must complete, she is afraid of making a mistake. No matter how hard she tries to be a witch worthy of the Severin name, nothing is ever good enough for her aunt. Camille has practiced and practiced, but instead of the beat of demonic wings or the snap of talons, her blood calls forth evergreen vines and leaves. Terrified of what this might mean, she flees into the swamps. But her failed ritual gives her something precious: time away from Aunt Athalie. Time to spend with her beloved familiar Toben and kindly cousin Silvia. This series tackles some dark themes within the first few chapters, and it felt like more time could have been given to process them. In the end, I couldn't vibe with this series, but I would recommend checking it out if you are already a fan or the synopsis speaks to you.
