This is a fantastic installment in the Lumine series! Readers will be clambering for volume four after the cliff hanger finish! A must have for all collections where the first two volumes are popular.

Honestly loving this series! So much happens in this book. I'm so excited to see how Kody and Lumines story progresses after all that happens. Lumine is exactly what Kody needs.
This review is my own and honest opinion. Thank you to Netgalley and Webtoon for the ARC.

I loved this book so much! I have read this and have re-read this book. It is such a fun and at times suspenseful read! Lumine is a unique story and I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy, especially werewolves. It tells the story of Lumine who is a werepup and Kody a boy who Lumine saves. This story is action packed and will surely leave you wanting to read more!
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me a copy to review.

Love this comic! Following it on Webtoon is delightful and I'm so happy it's getting a physical run!

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Lumine series (and have had a ton of Lumine pins pop up on my Pinterest!), so I was super excited when the publishers approved my NetGalley request to read an ARC of its Volume III! Notably, I had not read the series before, so I went through the events that happened before this volume on Webtoon. While some of the previous segments of plot [mostly volume I] had a few recurring events (school days, Kody pushing Lumine away and Lumine following anyway, etc) that made not as fresh for me at times, this volume of Lumine had a very gripping and original plot different from the previous segments; I was genuinely very invested in the lives of the protagonists. I also really enjoyed the character development of Kody, Lumine, and Calla in this volume. In overview, the character art was (as was in previous segments of this graphic novel) stunning and full of beautiful value and chroma variance—I love Krogell’s art style (like her wolves and humans are genuine masterpieces and especially love how cute she illustrates Lumine in his puppy form; the characterization and writing were very good! I really recommend reading this graphic novel. I’ll go into more detail about my thoughts of the various aspects of it below:
Note: While I'm rating graphic novels through these 4 ideals of a perfect graphic novel, their score in these three categories will not relate or correlate to the 1-5 stars I give the novel in general.
Concept: 4.75 Stars [What the graphic novel is supposed to be about.]
All the stars!!! I love the idea of found family in a world of witches and werewolves, and Krogell does an amazing job both illustrating and animating through dialogue this vibrant world. I also love the mystery and intrigue behind nearly all of the characters, especially Kody, Lumine, and Aiden (just what does his “company” do??)—it keeps the reader interested, and it feels satisfying when drops of knowledge are revealed in segments. (Though I personally became a little frustrated by lack of knowledge or like felt a bit discombobulated at times because of this—will go into more detail in “characterization” section) I enjoyed seeing the magic system and the were(wolf/dog) and witch fights and the central conflict of Kody not being able to use magic.
Writing Style / Characterization: 4.8 Stars [How the author chooses dialogue and adds personality to their characters.]
Krogell does an amazing job with giving each character a dynamic and interesting personality, from Aiden’s charm to Sherry’s no-nonsense attitude. Also, the facial expressions she illustrates are beyond on-point and really expressive in an amazing way! You can tell how a character is feeling without even reading the text bubble. I love everything about the main protagonist Lumine—especially his loyalty to Kody and his naivety of the world (he is truly adorable and makes for a great person to root for!).
One aspect of the graphic novel I didn’t like as much was the ambiguity behind Kody’s aloofness and general distaste for having friends. In these first three volumes, we haven’t really seen much to justify his adverse reactions to people reaching out to him other than his one rejection by Elijah and feeling like he isn’t welcome in the world of witches (though he could still pursue relationships with humans). I think his character would work better if he were caught between both worlds: too “magical”/abnormal to hang out with normal humans but too weak to hang out with the other witches, but this isn’t the case (Elijah, a human, is fine being friends with him). If he generally doesn’t want to have friends or isn’t the type to like friendship, then that’s fine by me, but the narrative really pushes the idea that Kody must find friends—that he secretly longs for friends—and when he keeps pushing them away for no good reason, I feel torn and confused. I have the feeling that there’s some background on Kody that I haven’t gotten to yet that explains this, but until I get to it in a further volume, I feel a bit confused by his motivations and am not finding him as compelling a protagonist as Lumine.
Plot: 4.75 Stars [How the author executes the concept. What happens? How does the first panel lead to the last?]
Compared to the previous volumes (especially I), the plot picks up quite a bit and leaves the reader in suspense throughout the volume. There are a lot of emotionally charged scenes and adrenaline-rushing fight scenes in this segment that are executed with amazing mastery; it was a joy to read. I especially love the transition spreads in this volume! Krogell uses panels as an animator uses frames in these to really bring to life a drive through the verdant woods, a menacing move during fight, or a simple walk to school. And unlike some other graphic novels I’ve read in the past, Krogell does not jarringly skip from scene to scene—she always uses smooth transitions: a bus ride to get from home to school (Kody scanning the card with Lumine in his arms) or a contrasting spread showing the sunset coming over the school to bring us from day to evening. I really appreciate these transitions as a reader and find they make a great read.
Art Style / Visual Aesthetics: 4.2 Stars [How the graphic novel is illustrated and spreads are presented within the pages.]
As I said above, the character illustration in all of the volumes of Lumine is nothing short of phenomenal! I love the way Krogell draws expression into each characters’ faces and brings their forms to life with great proportions, perspective, and value/chroma contrast; I especially love the colored cast shadows Krogell uses in some scenes (like casting very warm or cool shadows based on the background). Her line art is amazing, and she does a great job at making Lumine utterly adorable. I also like her illustrations of natural backgrounds a lot—from grass to piney woods, they are beautiful. But, seriously, these characters are some of the best illustrated I’ve seen, both feral wolf and human form—amazing!
Two aspects I didn’t like as much about the art style were the architectural drawings and the use of negative space in spread design. It’s hard for me to say exactly what makes the drawings of the houses and schools in this volume unappealing to me, but I think it’s a lack of texture on them. The walls in the background of some scenes are very well done with brick lines and shading, but when the school or house is shown in its entirety, it’s almost too smooth. Also, I did not like the lots of negative space used in spread organization (though it’s more of a personal preference thing). I’m used to graphic novels like Ultramarine Weather with panels very close together, and their colors dominate the spread, bringing saturation to it. In Lumine, there’s a lot of white space in between the panels that makes negative space very prominent in the display, which I don’t like as much. On the plus side to this, though, Lumine has much larger panels, which I enjoy a lot as a reader since I get to absorb them more easily, and there’s less confusion on the page with many things happening on it at once.
Overall, I really liked reading this third volume of Lumine and look forward to seeing what’s next in the adventures of this werewolf! It is obligatory to read the first two volumes first for plot purposes, and if you enjoyed those, you’ll definitely like this one (maybe a little better, even!) In terms of the series as a whole, I really recommend it—characters are drawn amazingly, the plot and characterization are very compelling, and the story is immersive—but some aspects of it don’t make it an all-time favorite of mine.
Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 Stars)
A big thank you to NetGalley and Webtoon Unscrolled for this ARC in exchange for my honest review! ✨

Full of adventure and fight. This story about a friendship between a witch boy without magic clearly has a lot going on. The premise seamed good but the book was too short in my opinion.

I'm really enjoying this series, curious about where this is going and I liked getting more backstory.

Thank you Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group, WEBTOON Unscrolled, and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this book. This is the continuation of the series and at first it kept dragging for me. There was more action toward the end and the book ends on an interesting cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next installment.

As the beginning of Lumine’s story is focused primarily on world and character introduction, delving into the action of the adventure as volume two came to a close. Now, gearing up in volume three, we see Kody and Lumine finally reaching a moment of coming together, now that Lumine has saved Kody’s life. The experiences of children are wrapped up somewhat as bullying gets addressed just in time for a new danger to crop up for our two boys.
As usual, the artwork is a ton of fun and I love watching the characters move through the story. This particular addition to the tale was rather dark in nature, even more so than the action of the previous volume. It feels like the stakes are increasing and this has the natural affect of heightening our emotions with each turn of the page. With the characters established and built upon, the emotional connection has built to the point that when readers finally reach the cliffhanger at the end, they’re even more invested in picking up volume four when it finally comes.

This is not the first nor the last time I will rave about how much I truly enjoy this story.
In this volume Lumine and Kody barley get away from the witch hunters. During this ordeal we find out Lumine is more than just a meager little werepup. With Lumine coming into his own and Kody starting to trust him. Aiden does the only plausible thing, and fires Lumine...stay with me here, I promise you it's a good thing.
Calla goes back to school and tells everyone to now leave Kody alone, so when he returns, he's just ignored. Except by Lumine, Calla and an old friend trying to make amends.
All seems to be going well, until more dark secrets start to rear their heads. Will Kody and Lumine be able to face what comes next?
The relationships are growing and developing. The story remains very well written. This volume has some slower parts but after all that happened in volume two, they deserve a little bit of a slowdown. Near the end of this volume, you can tell the action is back to ramping up.
Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group | WEBTOON Unscrolled for the Digital ARC.

Thank You NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoying how the story is unfolding but for every answer I get I have several more questions. A few new characters have been introduced and still figuring out how it is all connected, which keeps me coming back! Watching Kody and Lumine's relationship evolve into a real friendship makes my heart happy. Kody ahs constantly been bullied and Lumine is just what he needed.
The only issue I can say that I had is when the writing is in white in a black bubble. The text was difficult to read.

Lumine has been a slow build on action, creating characters I have very much enjoyed getting to know, including the titular character who is the bodyguard, an admittedly cute fluffy one, for Kody, a witch boy who can’t perform magic and is ostracized by his fellow students. One of his main antagonists is a witch girl named Calla who the series set up to be distinctively bullishly in a mean girl wish someone would throw a bucket of water on this witch kind of way, but her backstory in this volume reveals she was once close friends with Kody and outs her on a redemption path. Also, Lumine’s past comes calling and may cost Kody what is left of his family in the process. Much mystery and intrigue abounds and I eagerly await the next volume. The art as always is stunning and greatly enjoyable and Lumine, though more powerful, remains his adorkable self.

In Volume Three, we learn Kody and Lumine survived being napped by witch hunters- barely. Kody’s father Aiden surprises Lumine by firing him from his bodyguard job in preference for being Kody’s friend instead. After a discussion with Calla, Kody returns to school only to find it eerily quiet amongst his classmates. It appears Calla has convinced the students to end their bullying. Despite the good news, more trouble befalls Kody and his family. Will they be able to escape it this time, too?

Lumina holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the very first Webtoons I ever read on the app years ago and now here I am reviewing the ARC copy of Volume 3. 🥹 Just as it did years ago, the story pulled me in and held me watching Aiden fight. Lumine’s ability to sense danger and protect Kody is shows his nature to protect his pack and I love seeing that relationship grow.

I received an e-ARC and am giving my honest review
Lumine was one of the first webcomics I got into in early high school, now I’m a junior in college and this was such a refreshing nostalgia trip. I had forgotten how much I adore these characters and how stunning the artwork is!! This is such an incredible graphic novel and I’d highly recommend to anyone

I regret to say that I was unable to finish this book. Despite multiple attempts, I found myself unable to engage with the characters or the narratives. Unfortunately, I did not develop any lasting interest in the story, which ultimately hindered my ability to continue reading.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC copy.
I have been following Lumine for years over on Webtoons. And seeing this story grow outside of the app has been amazing. Vol. 3 explores some of the darker areas of this world and leads you wanting more.

I enjoyed this volume a lot. The pacing was good and it left off on a cliffhanger. I don't really remember what happened in the previous volume too much since there's a big enough gap in publication between volumes, but it looks like we're finally going to get more information about Lumine's past. I was sad that it looks like things are going to get harder for Kody.

a gorgeous, fun and adventerous story of friendship, family and strength
Kody is hospitalized after using magic while being kidnapped by witch hunters
lumines true form is revealed but he admits he cannot control it properly and the pup form is still available to him.
lumines past, family and memories are shown bit by bit with little to no information
the shadow cats identity is revealed with a sad and shocking back story
calla returns kodys belongings and apologizes for the way shes been treating him, slowly wanting to become friends
aiden, kodys father, has been keeping secrets about lumine that are also slowly revealed

Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the Arc!
The end of this book was absolutely gut-wrenching in the most exciting way, and I can't wait what the next volume has in store! The art is great to look at and absolutely love the blooming friendship between Lumine and Kody and how they slowly open up to one another.

I am obsessed with this webtoon, as soon as volume 3 was available to pick up i grabbed it and dropped my current read because its Lumine, i can't get enough of the cute protective wolf.
OH dear the ending was heartbreaking, but also the start to a new beginning in a new place. I am so ready for what happens next.
