This was so precious. It was just absolutely adorable, I really loved the art style. Cannot wait for vol 2 cause I love these characters so much!

A very quick and cute BL manga!

It's a really sweet love story between the two neighbours. I especially like Nagi's character, though Saki's great too. The confession part felt a bit rushed. Overall I would have liked the story to be longer, to get to know the main as well as the side characters better as I took a liking to all of them.

3.5/5 rounded down

A helplessly wholesome BL manga between two college students Nagi Kitagawa and Yu Yumisaki.

Their relationship and development is slow and steady, they communicate well, they are very cute together.

The pace is very fast paced but almost to it's detriment, I don't feel like I know these characters. The ending leaves them love stricken and seems like a HEA, this could easily be a standalone, so I don't exactly know how the future volumes will develop. We'll see.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for providing an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own

A sweet slice of life love story. Our characters both have distinct personalities and find a quick growing bond between them despite having just met. They grow closer little by little emotionally and a gentle relationship blooms from that. This is a cute oneshot I think people will easily enjoy, it doesnt have anything overly dramatic in the plot and instead shows a healthy "honeymoon" stage of a new couple being in love.

This was a super cute read. Simple and perfect. I really enjoyed this story. Nagi and Yu are great characters with very different personalities that work well together. Although I would have preferred a slower development of their relationship—to better enjoy those situations that often arise in stories where the feelings of one of the protagonists seem one-sided. The art was also very calming and gentle. Can't wait to read more of this adorable couple!

This was adorable!!!

A few other people have mentioned that the romance moves a bit fast and that it would've been nice to see a little more of their backstory but if you were here for a cute first love romance, this is exactly what you're hoping for.

Super cute, super quick, and I'm curious to see what the next volumes are about (especially since they get together book 1 and not, say, drawn out for 20 books).

The blurb made it sound like that it was Nagi's first time bringing Yu home, and that they aren't very close. But chapter 1 starts in the middle of the semester, where they’ve known each other for a while and it’s become a habit for Nagi to bring a drunk Yu home.
However, we do get flashbacks soon to their firsts (first meeting, first time out partying, first time bringing him home, first time falling asleep next to a drunk Yu, etc).

The pace is quite fast, not bothering to make it realistic, throwing in some cliche Tropes in (like losing the keys and catching a cold) to make sure they get closer asap. It was cute, but that felt a little too rushed sometimes – there wasn’t much from their friendship shown where I was like, “ah, yeah, I get it why you’re crushing on him”. And once I did feel their romantic chemistry, they were already a level further.

I’m not quite sure where this series is gonna go, though. As the whole story was pretty cliche and nothing new at all, I feel like it could take any direction. Anyhow it could as well be a stand-alone.
Based on the bonus chapter, I have a feeling this might toggle bad habits in relationships and perhaps gonna take a toxic/unhealthy route. But really, I have no idea what the author is planning.

Their romance was sweet though, occasionally funny as well. Consent was (almost) always present, and even though I did feel the sex scene rushed, it did feel natural.
I love how the mangaka worked with symbols, like showing the clothes on the floor to indicate them having slept together, or Yu grabbing tissues after becoming flustered, without actually showing the act. I love these artistic symbols/choices.
I also love the artstyle in general. The more rounded faces, than it’s usual for Mangas, also add to the lighthearted, soft feel.

This was absolutely adorable and what I was needing to read. A fresh breath of young love 🥰🥰
The cover was what caught my eye straight away and we all know that beautiful covers do not mean great readings, however, I adored the relationship between Nagi and Yu and thought the whole volume was heartwarming.

I would like to have had a bit more of backstory to be able to see more moments of how their friendship grew into a romantic relationship.

In any case, I definitely recomment this to anyone who enjoys BL manga!

This was so cute! I was melting the entire time. Yuu and Nagi are so good together. This entire manga just radiated warmth. Add to that the beautiful art style that just added to the softness - I was completely swept away.

This was SUPER cute! Set in college but very much a sweet first love story, and aside from the initial misunderstanding (they both think the other is rejecting them when they’re not) there’s basically no conflict. I’ll keep an eye out for volume 2!

AHHHHHH Love on the Horizon is absolutely adorable! 😚.
Nagi and Yu are such a charming pair—they completely melted my heart with their cozy interactions 🤗😋. Their dynamic, filled with forced proximity and mutual pining, had my toes curling the entire time. The story is executed beautifully, and the artwork is just as captivating 🫶. It's sweet, swoon-worthy, and impossible to put down. I can’t wait to read more about these two lovelies! 😍🥰.
📖 A heartfelt, delightful read!

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc.
How cute! My heart is so full after reading this. Adorable slowburn friends to lovers. This felt very human. I squealed with happiness at the ending.

I will say, I do wish we had more of a backstory on the characters because it seemed like the story had already taken off at the beginning.

The illustrations were amazing and I loved looking at all of the characters on each page. The relationship between the two were adorable and I loved reading their story.

Thanks to both Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC copy. This has not affected my review at all, which are my own thoughts.

I'm 100% sure now that romance manga is a hit or miss to me. Not only BL, like this one, but any type of depicted romance😂 Anyway, LOTH was definitely better than other works I've read, but it let me confused and wasn't that groundbreaking.

But, first, what is “Love on the horizon” about? Well, two college students, Nagi Kitagawa, and his senior, Yuu Yamasaki, who also lives next door to Nagi. And Nagi may or may not be harboring a romantic crush towards Yuu, but these feelings get more defined and the boys start to get closer after an eventful night, where Yuu gets drunk, Nagi takes him home and they end literally sleeping together because Yuu doesn't let go of Nagi. And so it goes toward a beautiful relationship, or so they say.

And it does, it does. Such is the point of the romance genre, after all. And since this one is quite short, I don’t want to say much more about the plot and, instead, let ya’ll find it out. But, I will comment on the romance and why the mentioned “confusion”; though I’d say is more with promises and the fact that this is not a standalone volume than with the romance itself.

It’s cute, they communicate, their relationship develops slow and steady… As I said, probably one of the healthiest relationships I’ve seen in BL manga in a while. I’m not saying there’s not conflict, but they get through it together talking and getting to middle ground. Until they get together, in a romantic relationship and it’s all color pink around.

And that’s my complaint. If they already get together, they achieved a happily ever after and are lovesick with each other, what’s going to happen in next volumes? So, my complaint is that, if they get together in this first volume, and there’s nothing wrong with a fast-paced romantic story, at least end it hinting to some future conflict.

Anyway, it may not look like it, but I enjoyed Love on the horizon. The characters are relatable, their chemistry palpable and the plot, though thin, engaging.
Do I recommend it? If you’re just in for the romance, then sure, it is a good read, entertaining and with a well-built romance. If you’re looking for more, maybe this is not the manga for you, just like it happened to me.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. At first, I was a little put off by the whole sharing the bed while drunk thing, but it was handled okay. The plot was incredibly fast. They like each other yet know nothing about each other. I don't think that it should have been a slow burn, they should still know some things about each other. This BL does not do what most do where they make one a submissive feminine one nor did they have an unnecessary "rivalry" with a female character, so I will give the author props for that. The sharing a bed and forgetful dream trope has been done various times, this time I think it was done extremely well. The plot was just too rushed. We have no time to feel anything for the characters. Nami especially has no originality or personality. Hopefully in the second volume we can learn more about him!

These two are just so cute. The story was so good and the art work is stunning. Nagi and Yuu are so cute!!! They have real connection and they’re just so wholesome. The confession to the first dates was adorable. I can’t wait to see what else Machi Yamashita writes.

Love on the Horizon is a cozy BL manga that was a quick read but one I enjoyed massively nonetheless. The two main characters are both likeable and mesh together quite well, the art style was really nice, and I liked the side characters. I do hope there are more volumes so we can see how Yuu and Nagi grow together and overcome challenges together, especially any college challenges. I had a smile on my face the entire time and am eagerly awaiting the rest of their story!
Also, as a queer person, it was nice to read a nice queer manga without blatant homophobia being their big overcoming challenge from the git-go, because that's not the only issue we face in life and it can get very stagnant just to read about that. We deserve to have more books like this.

Thank you to netgalley for the arc!
