Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

The Last Hamilton is a gripping legal thriller with a refreshingly sharp edge. Jenn Bregman weaves together high-stakes courtroom drama, political intrigue, and historical threads with impressive skill. The plot moves at a brisk pace, and the legal aspects are well-researched without ever feeling overwhelming.

The protagonist is smart, driven, and easy to root for, making it all the more satisfying to follow her through layers of corruption and twists. I especially enjoyed how the narrative balanced suspense with character development, offering both intensity and heart.

A few minor pacing issues near the end kept this from being a full five stars for me, and some secondary characters could’ve used a bit more depth. Still, this is a smart, entertaining read that kept me turning pages late into the night.

The Last Hamilton" by Jenn Bregman, unfortunately, was a significant disappointment for me. I just could not get through this book. I found myself incredibly bored, and the entire read was quite off-putting.

The story simply didn't resonate, and I couldn't connect with any of the characters or feel invested in their journey. Every page felt like a chore, and I just could not find it in me to continue about halfway through.

What a fantastic ride! The Last Hamilton had everything I look for in a legal thriller—tight pacing, high stakes, and characters I could root for. From the very beginning, I was pulled into the story and didn’t want to stop listening. It kept me engaged the entire time, and I found myself sad when I reached the final chapter.

Jenn Bregman’s writing is sharp and compelling, and the audiobook narration was absolutely top-notch. The narrator brought energy and emotion to every scene, making the characters feel real and the tension feel immediate.

If you love fast-paced thrillers that keep you guessing and leave you thinking about the story long after it ends, this one’s for you. Highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley, Jenn Bregman, and Dreamscape Media for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I’m sure this is a nice enough murder mystery but it was just too cutesy for me - I had to give up when some of the characters said a handkerchief looked like it had been made by angels!

The Last Hamilton
by Jenn Bregman
Narrated by Leanne Woodward

Rating: 3.4/5.0 Stars

I was quite excited for this book. It sounded like National Treasure for Hamilton fans. Especially with the recent success of the musical, I was hooked, after reading the description and couldn't wait to listen. I rounded my rating to three stars, but this book needs a bit of reworking for it to really shine. Elizabeth, the last descendant of Alexander Hamilton, is dead. Her last text (or call, I forgot) was to her best friend Sarah. Sarah and Ralph, Elizabeth's husband. The two are thrown together to discover what Elizabeth was on the hunt for, and unbeknownst to them, there are some dangerous people after the same thing.

The narration was performed well, but the story just felt like they were running in circles. Clues just popped up, and the bad guys were doing there thing as well. It just didn't catch me and keep me listening. By the end of the story, I honestly didn't really care what happened. This was no Dan Brown novel, though I was hoping for a book a bit more like that!

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and the author for the chance to listen to and review this ARC!

I loved this book. I have always been interested mysteries especially conspiracy mysteries. This book had me anxious and on the edge of my seat for most of the book. I enjoyed the characters and the way they worked with each other.

As a descendent of Aaron Burr, I was ecstatic to read this one! However it fell flat for me. And no, not because I
On team Burr. It was incredibly hard to get into. I loved the idea but the execution did not work for me.

Ugh. The premise sounded good, like a campy kind of National Treasure like adventure. It wasn't nearly as clever as it thought it was. The characters themselves weren't the problem, and that is why it has 2 stars. It was the plot, the fact that there were SO many POVs, and the repetition of all the "clues"..."See this clue? It's important! It's so important that I am telling you 5 times why it is important! I'm telling you, it's SPECIAL!" And repeat for every "discovery" they had throughout the book. It was incredibly predictable and, frankly, disappointing.

First I must say the blurb for this book and the cover describe it as a thriller. I would not do so, I will admit that the first chapter or two had me very interested but as I figured out the storyline and the plot, I found the story very hard to buy. It was so wordy about the gold deposits that I actually lost interest in the story. I found the story implausible and really did not care for it at all.

Thank to NetGalley, the audio house and the author for the opportunity to listen to a complimentary advance copy of the book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

Thank you to netgalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

A quick, fun and twisty read with an historic edge. I loved the idea of a secret society that was started by Alexander Hamilton. This would be a fun series and I really hope it happens.

For me, this book was flavourless and unenjoyable. The dialogues were stiff, the language repetitive. The narrator made it a bit nicer, but couldn't conceal the fact it was unrealistic and didn't provoke any emotion within me

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, the publisher and the narrator for this audiobook

This was a delightfully twisty and fun mystery with some references to the musical Hamilton, making sure to blend in the story into the "real world", even though the story itself is not real. I found the main character interesting as she was trying to figure out what happened to her friend, teaming up with her late friend's husband. It got a bit fantastical, but I still enjoyed the ride.

Thank you NetGalley for a ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I am so disappointed 😞 I downloaded this when I first got approved but it was just before I went overseas so didn't have time to listen to it until now. And I found that my download was gone 😢

I tried to buy the audiobook to listen to it but it is not available in Australia. I was so excited to listen to this.. I hope it comes out here soon and I am so sorry I didn't get the chance to review it properly

The Last Hamilton by Jen Bregman and narrated by Leanne Woodward. The book is about the mystery of Elizabeth Hamilton Walker, who sends her best friend Sarah a message saying call Ralph he knows and then jumps in front of a train or did she? The mystery starts off with a bang but sadly when it gets into the stuff about the bank towards the end of the book my eyes were really glazing over and although I thought it was a good mystery very deathly plotted I just think the ending was quite abrupt and after that great beginning felt like a letdown. leanne Woodward has narrated some of my favorite books and I love her soft melodic tone and have always enjoyed her performance in my writing really has nothing to do with her I think this is a mystery for the thinking reader and or those who can use both sides of their brains at the same time. i’m not going to say I didn’t like it because I am a big fan of our founding father and found all the history of him his cello and the other members of the Hamilton family very interesting but when I got to the secret society in the financial happenings many times I got lost and didn’t know what they were talking about. having said that it would always come back to something that got me back into the story, I just don’t think this is a mystery for those who are fans of cozy mysteries I just really hate to say anything bad about a book but sadly I wasn’t the biggest fan of this one.#NetGalley,#DreamscapeMedia, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #JenBregman, #TheLastHamilton, #LorraineWoodward,

I really struggled through this book. The beginning was so intriguing. Who is Elizabeth really? What were her motivations for jumping in front of a train? What secrets were worth her life?

I liked Sarah and Ralph. I thought their characters made sense to be in the positions they were in. Elizabeth trusted them with the potential future of America.

Once it got into Pierce and Timothy’s parts, things went off the tracks for me. I was disturbed by the casual self harm and found the explanation of Pierce’s anxiety to be lacking.

60% of the way through the audiobook, I asked myself “do I even care what happens in the end?”

Unfortunately, I think this story is hindered by the narrator of the audiobook. Her tone strikes me as AI generated and lacks the appropriate emotional depth for the tragedy of Elizabeth’s death. I think alternating male/female narrators might’ve given characters like Pierce and Ralph more believable performances.

I generally love all things Hamilton, and was ALL IN for this historical fiction. Unfortunately the lackluster dialogue heavy writing could not hold my attention. I was simultaneously annoyed by the characters and annoyed that I felt like I had the mystery figured out halfway.

I received this to review as a audiobook from NetGalley. This book grabbed my interest from the beginning. It is paced well. I hope to finish it in print one day, but the audio version is unbearable and I had to stop by Chapter 7. The narrator enunciates clearly. That’s the positive. Imagine Siri reading a book. The dictation is almost robotic and lacks engagement. The additional attempt at a male character voice shift is dreadful. If this book had a different reader, I’m sure I would’ve been enthralled.
