“It’s the kind of effortless knitting when all you need do is pick up your needles and knit one simple stitch over and over. The knitting becomes a part of you, like breathing: no effort involved.”
The author’s stated goal for this book was to create designs for all levels, with a range of soft yarns, using easily memorized stitch patterns, and producing beautiful results. I think she achieved her goal. The patterns are extremely simple and include blankets, scarves, hats, mitts, a poncho, a placemat and a bath mat. If you have a need for one of these objects and you want a stress free knitting experience, these patterns might appeal to you.
The instructions are clearly written and the illustrations are good. There are some basic knitting instructions. The book begins with instructions for meditative knitting. I confess that this did not read the interest me.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

This is a great book for all things knitting.
The designs are lovely and easy to follow. The set up of the book makes it easy to follow and while, I read this on a Kindle, which means no color photos, it does look as though everything is well photographed, enticing me to buy the actualy book.
We have precious few recent knitting books in our collection, so this will be a great addition,

Unlike previous years I’m reviewing these books without having tried a single pattern. I unfortunately don’t have the time. The author begins by qualifying the purpose behind the book and elaborates on the title. Meditative Knitting is not supposed to be the usual knitting with background noise and these almost single page instructions are supposed to ensure that.
A brief look at each of the patterns seems to show that it might just be possible to follow the author’s instructions easily – both to complete the pattern and to participate in the meditative aspect of things.
For people looking for something different in the experience and some reasonably simple but pretty designs, this book might be welcome.
I received an ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

This book has very fun patterns that will definitely want to try someday soon! I learnt how to knit earlier this year and I am still leening but these patterns feel very beginner friendly!

As a beginning knitter, found these projects were right up my alley. Carefully curated and done with lovely yarn.

I like the approach, as knitting is very meditative for a lot of knitters, it's nice to have a bunch of patterns made with that state of mind. One thing just got me thinking a lot concerning the shawl pattern : there is no indication for wool size. Needle size is indicated but it's huge compared to the model's photo and there is no way to get gauge with that needle size and what looks like a fine wool. And there is no indication as to hold thread double... so... yeah, it got me thinking a lot ^^ it makes the swatch mandatory if you want to avoid a very very opened and loose fabric. Which potentientally breaks the meditation thing a bit...

I love the idea of simple knitting projects used as a form of meditation. I love to have my hands engaged, but don’t always want to think too nard about the project at hand. This is a great book!

This is the first knitting book I’ve read where there is a combination of teaching, patterns, and philosophy and that’s really refreshing. As a neurodivergent who often knits for relaxation and grounding, this deeply resonated with me. It’s always nice to have reassurance that the things that help you, also help others. It’s a beautiful form of human connection. I enjoyed the patterns that Barbara Breen teaches in Simple Designs for Meditative Knitting. The book is informative by teaching a variety of knit stitches but also simple enough for readers and knitters of all ages to enjoy. I love the little tidbits of wisdom sprinkled in between the patterns. This makes for a very calming, educational read that can enhance any knitters practice who is looking for than just a beautiful finished object. I will be recommending this to my knitting group!
A huge thank you to Landauer Publishing, Barbara Breen, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
*I will add my review to Amazon on the publication date.

Thank you Fox Chapel Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
I’m an almost complete beginner to knitting, having not picked up any needles since I was a child. I was immediately drawn to this gorgeous book. The photographs are beautiful and the instructions are clear and seem to be easy to follow. I am keen to finally pick up some needles and wool and start knitting.
I am often pulled to beautiful wool products based on their colours and feel so I was happy when the author, Barbara Breen explained this is the first step in meditative knitting, choosing the wool rather than identifying a pattern.
The premise do meditative knitting is not perfection, just being gentle with the material and allowing yourself to become mindfully immersed, perhaps by using simple terms as you knit such as knit, slip, knit or similar.
This lovely book is aimed toward both novice and expert knitters alike.

This book invites knitters to follow simple patterns as a means of focus and meditation. For me (and many others, I suspect!) busy hands help keep my mind focused, so translating that focus to a time of centering and meditation makes a certain amount of sense. And in today's tumultuous world, a meditative experience can certainly be valuable.
The patterns are simple, often plain or with textured patterns. They're not revolutionary, but they are effective. The occasional literary quotes enhance it.
Useful for a newer knitter, or one looking for mindfulness.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Such a great knitting book. It’s always nice to have a simple knitting pattern on the go. Something you can work on while watching your favourite show or work on while traveling. Some great patterns in here!

As another reviewer mentioned, these patterns are not really things a beginning knitter could handle. I am very new to knitting and felt overwhelmed looking through the patterns. Not many of the projects really jumped out at me either. I wasn't like, "Oh! I'd love to get better so I can make THAT!".

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC. I enjoyed the simplicity of this book and found the designs to be very relaxing while knitting.

The cover of this book immediately caught my eye as a knitter and yarn lover. There are SO many amazing projects in this book that I am excited to try. I’ve already purchased the yarn to try the waffle bath mat pattern! I would absolutely buy this for and as a gift for my knitting friends.

Simple Designs for Meditative Knitting is a book that is exactly as the title states. Thank you NetGalley and Landauer (Publishing) for making this ebook available to me.
First things first, this is a perfect book for a beginner knitter. It really covers basics. For the more advanced knitter this is a book that will open a window to a more calming knitting, as the title suggests. Knitting (or any hobby for that matter) should bring the heart rate down, right? This book provides techniques to do that while enjoying our craft. You can sit back and knit mindlessly while also truly resting the mind and allowing yourself to sink a little deeper into that state of mind.
The patterns included are fairly basic, for the most part. The final products are delightful. The author, Barbara Bree , has done a wonderful job at curating the patterns included, while considering the reader/knitter and what she hopes to teach others. New knitters or experienced, I think that this book will be an asset to your mental health (and WIP stash) all while enjoying our fantastic fiber arts!

As a new knitter (crocheter of 23 years but dabbling in knitting now) I found this book wonderful! The patterns are beautiful, and simply enough that I can follow them easily, but not get bored. What a great book to use to work on my skills!

This title is not lying, these are extremely simple designs. That doesn't mean that some of them aren't lovely. Unfortunately, they also feel very repetitive. There are multiple hat and fingerless mitt patterns, but they all look basically the same. And while I very much love the idea of meditative knitting, hats and mitts are not the best designs for unfocused knitting. Scarves, shawls, blankets and other rectangular patterns are great for this. If I have to count my rows and remember when to decrease, then this is not a good design for meditative knitting. Basically, this is a repetitive book of simple and boring patterns, most of which consist of nothing more than a garter stitch border around a specific stitch pattern that can be found for free on the internet. This might be a good book for a beginner knitter, but even then, I would find something more interesting.

Impressed. I have been on the search for a simple knitting book with easy to follow patterns, a good description of the yarn used (such as the weight and what the yarn even is, which surprisingly a lot of knitting books don't have), and good diagrams, This is a good book. Easy to follow for beginners and you can make these patterns and relax at the same time, because a lot of them are just so simple. A great variety of useful patterns for different skill levels and different times of the year. Pictures are amazing, well formatted and such.

A wonderful introduction to meditative knitting. The creation of art to enter a meditative state is not a new practice. This book gives instructions on how to enter that state through your knitting including what types of patterns and yarns work best for meditation. The patterns are basic but that is necessary for meditative knitting. The book contains basic knitting instructions that may not be clear to someone who has never knitted before but are useful reminders to beginners.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for an honest, thoughtful review.

This is a really lovely book of simple and basic knitting patterns. I have attempted the fingerless gloves and the pattern was basic. I liked the facts throughout about the meditative qualities of knitting.
