I have loved two other books by this author but I really did not like this one. I have since found out that it is a book that has been republished so maybe her writing style has changed a bit over the years to something that suits me more.

Under the midnight sun of Arctic Norway, Cecilie goes online looking for friends, and stumbles across Hector Herrera. They start chatting and soon realise that they might have just fallen in love. But there’s a problem: Hector lives thousands of miles away in Mexico. And he's running from a tragic past.

Cecilie's whole life has been anchored by sticking to what she knows and her job at the cafe in the town in which she grew up. Can she really make a leap of faith for someone she's never met? And will Hector break free to change the path he's on?

An unforgettable story about two people, living two very different lives under the same sky, and whether they can cross oceans, seas and fjords to give their love a chance.

Loved it. This was my first story by the author and definitely not my last. Will recommend to others.

I enjoyed Under One Sky by Zoë Folbigg and rated it five stars. This heartfelt story of love across distances beautifully captures the challenges and hopes of two very different lives. The characters felt real and their connection made the journey truly unforgettable.

enjoyed this novel although it did take me some time to become absorbed.

Cecilie lives in Artic Norway - she is 30, a twin and has never travelled outside Norway or left the comfort of her job as a librarian and working in a cafe. She still lives at home and one day she links in with Hector bonding over their musical interests. A friendship grows but he is living in Mexico and is in a relationship which eventually leads to marriage. Cecilie tries to break off their link and move on but cannot.

Hector deals with his marriage breakdown and yearns for her but can each move on from their current circumstances?

A delightful love story leading to new beginnings and hope.

In this charming novel from Zoe Folbigg, readers follow Cecilie in Norway and Hector Herrera in Mexico in a wild online meet-cute that might just lead to love. Hector, running from a tragic past, and Cecilie, confident and comfortable with the familiarity of her small life in her hometown, both have to make complicated choices for love and run the risk of changing their lives on a what-if. Fascinating, emotional, and thought-provoking, readers will love alternating between Cecilie and Hector’s stories and wait impatiently to see if they will choose new lives and new paths for love instead of waiting for something to happen. The characters are, naturally, the star of this novel, and the fantastic back and forth of the book really sells the emotional tones throughout the book. Character development and the emotional throughline are Folbigg’s strengths, and the novel also does a fantastic job emphasizing the impact that place and home can have on decision-making. Charming, entertaining, and heart-warming, readers will love the slow-paced, emotional coziness of this novel and both Hector and Cecilie’s growth and evolution over the course of the novel, and fans of Folbigg’s other titles will definitely want to pick up this charming book.

Under One Sky by Zoe Folbigg is a heartwarming tale of love, resilience, and the invisible threads that connect people across continents. With beautifully drawn characters and an emotional storyline, this novel takes you on a journey that proves no distance is too great when hearts are aligned.

📚 Story is an amalgamation of how a person can change for good as well as for bad for love.
📚 Long distance relationship is shown, which has evolved because of chating - that is understanding each other over years.
📚 It talks about various subjects such as - how a person can not want anything more financially or physically even when all their family members have achieved a lot.
📚 There are many characters in the book and many stories are told along with that of main characters. It talks about a lot of things at a time.
📚 However, at some point, you would want to know that how will the story move ahead and there are a lot of misunderstandings by the end.

It is a story that would leave you wondering that what type of life you have lived, was it the one that you wanted? If so then have you achieved what you have wanted? No, then is it okay with you? It will make you tumble upon some dark truths about yourself.

It is a dark read romcom for me!!

"Perhaps Cecilie's daydreams take her to better places than a flight ever could."

Folbigg has such a beautiful, cozy-nostalgic writing style. The story flows from moment to moment so well, I felt comforted at the end and didn't want the story to be finished! Her style puts me in mind of Fredrick Backman. The same style of character-centric prose. Beautiful.

Daydreaming Cecilie and sad Hector make such a unique couple, and their story wanders apart and together like clouds in a windswept sky.

And, of course there's a library at the heart of the story.

This is a lovely heartwarming and poignant book that explores the enduring power of love across time and continents. The story centers around two seemingly separate timelines: that of Stella, a young woman living in present-day London and grappling with a recent heartbreak, and that of Nancy, a British nurse stationed in wartime Singapore during World War II.

This was my first book by this author. The chapters are basically about one of 3 different people. You read about Cecilie, Hector and Kate. I wasn't 100% sure why we were getting Kate's story initially - of course once I got further into the book it made more sense. It is mostly about the friendship between Cecilie and Hector and how it starts and then over time changes. I really felt for Cecilie when he tells her what's going on in his life and she tries to move on with her life in her part of the world, trying to forget about Hector. After some time Hector plans a trip to Paris to try and see Cecilie and things don't quite go to plan. I enjoyed how the story ended for all the characters. Thanks to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Zoe Folbigg for the ARC of this book.

I liked this novel, but not as much as Zoë Folbigg’s previous novels. After I read it I discovered that it was a rerelease that had been written earlier in her career. The story is based around Cecilie a girl from Norway who becomes friends on the Internet with Hector, from Mexico. They have long interaction over many years and become very close. The story is about what happens in their lives that stops them from coming together. It is an unusual premise but works quite well overall, thanks to Folbigg’s inspired writing. Thank you to Boldwood books and Netgfor an ARC of this novel.

In Norway quiet, awkward Cecilia struggles with relationships and communication but online she talks freely to Hector in Mexico. Two people living very different lives half a world away. Can their worlds coincide? #netgalley #underonesky

Under One Sky by Zoe Folbigg is the first book I’ve read by this author—but it definitely won’t be my last! This story is filled with both heartbreak and hope, showing that time, distance, and even oceans can’t stand in the way of soulmates and true love.

Told in both the past and present, the story introduces us to Cecilie from Norway, Kate from the UK, and Hector from Mexico. Cecilie, despite having a mother who works in government and travels often, has rarely left her quiet town of Tromsø, where she works in a café and a library. It’s in that library where she stumbles upon a chatroom and connects with Hector, a fellow Depeche Mode fan living in Mexico. Time zones and continents separate them, but their friendship quickly deepens—from chatroom conversations to texts and FaceTime calls.

But there’s a complication: Hector lives with his girlfriend, Pilar, who later becomes his wife. While Cecilie knows nothing more can happen between them, she can’t help the jealousy that bubbles up. When Cecilie finally cuts off communication, it’s too painful to stay in touch… until the messages start again. What will become of Hector and Cecilie? And how does Kate tie into it all? What connects these three lives?

This was such a heartfelt, emotional, and character-driven story that I couldn’t put down. It resonated deeply with me—especially because I once had a fiancé stationed in Japan while I was in the U.S. I completely understood the longing, the dependence on communication, and the ache when time passed without contact.

I absolutely recommend this one—it was a FIVE STAR read for me! Released earlier this March, it's available in both print and audio.

Huge thanks to NetGalley, Zoe Folbigg, and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read and review this beautiful novel.

Cecile is a dreamer. She lives in a world that is familiar, a world she has always lived in, a town she was born in and is comfortable in her world. She is a librarian, plays the harp and works part time in a quirky little café. She is lonely but she is not sure what she is seeking.
Hector lives in Mexico and is a mixture of a past he is running away from, a present he is being forced into, and a lifestyle which is uncomfortable, dangerous and destructive.
They meet on line and what begins as fun, slowly becomes a deeper relationship that develops into love, which they both are comfortable with, as they live far, far away from each other, making meeting almost impossible. Cecile lives in Tromso, Norway and Hector lives in Xalapa, Mexico.
When Hector tells Cecile he is about to be married, she is devastated, destroyed and inconsolable. Hector is struggling with being pressured into marrying Pilar, a young Spanish teacher who came to Xalapa and who has been in his life for some time. He is depressed but has no honourable way out of the mess he has helped create.
Zoe Folbigg captures the very essence of love at a distance in Under One Sky, where she carefully looks at what is considered as love; is it something that can develop even though two people have never met, is it something that can create change, that can destroy and build up, that can be felt deeply.
Played out as on-line chat the style of presentation allows the reader to get to know the protagonists, their cultures and their emotions intimately, creating a more modern dimension to a global romance.
The slow build up to the finale has been well constructed as Folbigg draws together several strings which, during the course of the story seem to mean little, but bind together to create an unforgettable ending based on a massive leap of faith and the knowledge that love really is the ultimate emotion.

I’ve enjoyed previous work by this author, so was excited to read Under One Sky.
Mmmm, difficult one- I persevered but it wasn’t my favourite I’m afraid. The story went backwards and forwards in time, which was ok, but I wasn’t sure if some of the stories of Cecile were actually in her imagination rather than real life.

Under One Sky was a very compelling and unique story! Hector and Cecilie are both complex characters whose individual lives perfectly line up when they begin communicating, and again, years later when they finally have their happy ending. It’s a story about timing and the patience that love requires.

This story is set across the globe from Mexico to Norway, two vastly different places bringing two very different people together. The jumps in time and place kept me on my toes to figure out how the story between Hector and Cecilie ended.

One of the things I most enjoyed about this story was the use of online conversations! I love seeing when romances begin through different ways, and having these characters engage online was a brilliant way to develop their dynamics. I feel like there’s so much to learn about these characters through those conversations and what they aren’t saying as much as what they are.

Thank you to Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read and review this book! I received a free advance copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I sort of found this a bit confusing and difficult to follow at times but maybe it was just me not adapting to this author's style of writing. It wasn't a bad book overall
