tbh this was such a treat. the vibes were immaculate.
this was one of the best audios i’ve listened to in a WHILE. the narration was top tier. I loved that it was a duel narration, and the small sound effects throughout were the perfect touch without overdoing and overshadowing the story.

I loved the story. I loved the characters. i just had a great time 🤷🏼‍♀️

It gave twister vibes and truly it was so fun.

it really was just a treat! if you can listen to the audio, i 100% recommend doing that!

was it the greatest book ever written? no. did i have a top tier time and listen to it in 1 sitting? Yes.

Def recommend and will be revisiting this author!

I knew from the very first sentence I was going to love this book. It was soooo good. I only listen to audiobooks while I am working out and I found myself looking forward to my next work out just so I could listen. I loved both narrators. Very good book.

Loved this audiobook! The story was so exciting and compelling! Interesting take on the Professor x Student trope. Both characters are very adult about it and don’t want to see the other hurt by their decision to be together. The storm chasing was fun! And the spice was even better 😘

The narrators were fabulous! They all did such an amazing job with these characters.

Whirlwind was quite the whirlwind of a book to read.

The one problem I had with this book was just how much they focused/brought up the professor element of this book. I get it he was her professor but there were other elements they could have brought up a few times like the yearning they both had for each other or the age difference or how she was a fan of him before, or how he was leading this chase. I felt like there were so many moments that any other element that makes this story or trope appealing could be used but they kept bringing up the same point, even though there were never really in the classroom setting while the story is being told. I think I would have enjoyed the story more with that huge4 focus on that element with more scenes in a classroom verse the flashbacks it had to the classroom to explain the backstory.

That being said this is a perfect read for anyone who loved the movie Twisters but was hoping for more of the romance element in that movie. This book had action and a fast pace and the narration was compelling and exciting. I will read any book with a plus size main character especially one so proud of who she is and not someone who feels unworthy because of that.

I recommend this book to anyone who loved the Twisters movie but was left wanting more romance ... especially if the romance was with a professor. Thank you NetGally for the opportunity to read this story.

I enjoyed the pacing of the romance between Ryker(professor West) and Finley. They are really cute and I appreciate it being medium angst between them willing to sacrifice/put off their own careers for each other just to give their relationship a shot. I love Joey, Hawke and Ezra, an amazing set of friends/side characters. Not to mention my favorite tidbit being the cross over with Jake from Night Hawk, can’t wait for his book next year!!!!

A good concept, well executed - but that's about all there is to it. Nothing wrong with that - it hits the spot for fans of "Twisters" who wanted more spice - but I like a little more nuance in my romance. (I was also skeptical of their "solution" to the power imbalance problem.)

Okay who is ready to give me all the professor recs because DAMN. I was in love with Ryker by the second page and it only got better as it went on. The way Ryker and Finley’s relationship developed was adorable. I loved their relationship, it was both super sweet and hot. I wished this was longer only because I’m super greedy. I didn’t expect to love this as much as I did because they weren’t my go to tropes, but I think that’s changed 😏.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, we were given the audiobook. Duet style is my favorite audiobook narration style, not only was this duet, but also had sound effects which took the reading to the next level! The actors were absolutely fantastic, I loved that each of the characters had clear voices and personalities brought through from the book. I especially loved Joey, to hear his crazy self come to life was fantastic! Highly recommend this audiobook!

I loved this more than I thought I would. A tornado daddy?! Yes please. A storm chaser, a student is literal perfection.

I can always count on Kayla Grosse's books for a good time. They're always short, smutty, and full of amazing rep for the plus sized girlies. This one was definitely just Twisters (2024) fanfiction, but I was not complaining. I had a good time reading. It had the right amount of angst and suspense to keep me entertained. I also love a man who pines and is jealous (which this had in spades).

The thing that always keeps me from giving her books anything higher than a 3-star rating is I feel like they just lack a certain amount of depth. I don't know if its a result of the length or something else, but it just always feels like there is something missing.

I listened to the audiobook and I also want to say that while I loved the female narrator, both of the male narrators were not my favorites.

Thank you to Netgalley for my ALC.

This gives twister vibes if you loved the movie you will LOVE this book!!!! Everyone needs a Twister Daddy in their life and this book does just that. My only complaint is the 3rd act break up but i was able to look past that with how good the book is.

I read my first Kayla Grosse book late in 2024 and I knew that it wouldn’t be my last! I love her writing styles, and her covers…do not even get me started! They are FABULOUS! So as a Minnesota girl that has always loved summer storms I knew that I needed to read Whirlwind! And let me say that this book is awesome! I was lucky enough to get the audiobook. The narrators were all new to me but I am now a big fan! The book was done in duet format which I think is hard to do, Victoria Connolly, Grayson Owens, and Robb Moreira made this book (outside of Kayla’s amazing writing)! The action in the book really lent itself to the duet format and it was super easy to follow with who the characters were!
Ryker West is a world renowned storm chaser and professor. To say that he is obsessed with storm chasing and tornadoes is a huge understatement. He is also enamored with his grad student Finley Buckley. Little does he know that she is also pretty enamored with him, too!
Then there is Ms. Buckley or Finley Buckley has had a dream of a storm chasing her whole life, and she has accomplished those goals. She also is a very accomplished weather photographer…she also happens to have a huge crush on her professor.
I am a sucker for an age gap and this one with the forbidden element really added to the book. The side characters also added so much to this story- I would love to get more from this crew because they are just that great! If you haven’t read Kayla Grosse or are just looking for a great standalone read I highly recommend this book!

Okay, this book was such a wild ride! I was hooked from the very beginning, and let me tell you, the audiobook was 😘 perfection! I love a good age gap! Finley, a 25-year-old grad student has wicked chemistry with Ryker, her college professor... and holy smokes. The man is hot.
What really set this apart for me was the tension. The slow burn, mutual pining, and the way they kept getting caught up in their feelings (and a little something else) while chasing tornadoes?! That’s the kind of adrenaline I’m here for! The narration was done really well. Victoria Connolly, Grayson Owens, and Robb Moreira have all been added to the favorite narrator list. A unique thing the Audiobook had were the sound effects! That really brought the story to life and made you feel the suspense of the storms the characters chased. This book had me laughing, blushing, and on the edge of my seat the whole time. If you're into a quick, steamy, and fast-paced story with amazing narrators and some storm-chasing action, this one’s for you. Huge thanks to Kayla Grosse, NetGalley, and Dreamscape Select for the advanced audiobook.

Is it reckless for a master’s student to blur the lines with her hot, older professor—a legendary storm chaser?

I mean, probably. But it was hot as shit. I love it when the two MCs have that “I shouldn’t be flirting with them, it’s inappropriate” augment with themselves, and this book had it coming from both sides.

Their chemistry was great and the addition of Joey was great for some comic relief and to bring out our MMCs jealousy. The narrators were great and it was just a fun time all round.

All three narrators are amazing!! They all have such distinct voices and characters, and I love that this was a “duet” narration, so each narrator spoke all the dialogue for their characters regardless of which POV the chapter was in.

I didn’t know storm chasing was a ✨ thing ✨ and while I wouldn’t ordinarily pick up a professor x student romance, this was a fun & exciting book!

Thoughts
This was a really enjoyable read/listen! We have an action adventure romance involving tornado chasing, a forbidden element (he's the fmc's professor), and an age gap (42, 25)!

I loved the connection Finley and Ryder formed on their road tripping adventure. There were both pining HARD for each other, so when they both caved with their romantic feelings, it made it all the more satisfying!

The narrators and audio production were so enjoyable! The added sound effects of thunder, etc. really brought the story to life.

Do I wish there was a bit more romance and less adventure, maybe, but nevertheless, this was a very fun, fast-paced, and unique read.

This will be the movie in my head the next time someone mentions the last Twister movie.
Damn, these characters were excellent, and the secondary ones left me thinking "what happens next with you? I need to know” and I love that feeling when a book feels perfect but at the same time short.
.
This is the story of Finley and Riker, a college student working to her master degree and falling in deep with the sexy professor that chase storm and tornados collecting data. An age gap romance with a delicious hard pining and forced proximity that leave you so high.
.
The sounds that were added to the voices made it so easy to slip into this world alongside Riker and Finley, chasing storms, following the wind, and catching more than they had imagined.
.
The narration by Victoria Connolly, Grayson Owens & Robb Moreira, was so perfect that I could see the characters just by their tone, accent, and way of moving through the story before another character described it.
.
The pace was perfect, the adventure, the adrenaline made the steamy scenes fall at the perfect moment where the slow burn is about o burn everything. Just perfection. Now I have plenty of Kayla Grosse books to catch up on.
.
Thanks to Kayla Grosse , her team and Dream Scape Select for giving me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion.

Saying I was excited to be chosen to listen to this book is an understatement. Ever since I read Axes & O’s I have been dying to get my hands on another Kayla Grosse novel.

I had so much fun listening to this because it was just soooo good! I loved the duet narration with all the cool sound effects. It added so much to the story.

I loved Ryker and Finley together! The way they were both willing to give something up to be together was beautiful! Obviously, I loved the spicy bits, but the connection and friendship they formed before they ever crossed the line was adorable.

Can we talk about Joey?! I loved him so much!! The quirky side character, the comic relief, the voice of reason, but above all else a good friend. I would love a book for him and Hawk. Actually, I wouldn’t be mad if we got more books in this universe.

Definitely check this one out!! It’s worth the read!

I received this alc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I love that Kayla Goose has confident plus size fmcs in her books.
The narration really pushed this to a 4 star for me. There was not as much spice as her other books but still good. It’s more of an action romance. I was enjoying everything until the fmc decided to be difficult at the end. If a man is going to quit his job so y’all can be together you don’t argue with him!!
Overall this you’re looking for a professor student dynamic with a unique premise you’ll enjoy this book. Do your self a favor listen to the audiobook so you can enjoy all 3 narrators

ALC Review

4.5 ⭐️

I’ll be honest Twister vibes hooked me with this, I was a big fan of the original movie and ran to the cinema for the remake last year.

And this twister romance absolutely hit the spot, it was fun, spicy, action packed and did I mention totally forbidden! Professor / Student? Yes please, let’s be real that was my second hook!

I read this when it first came out, pretty sure the day it came out, then spotted it on NetGalley and requested the audio, I almost wished I’d listened to it before reading as the audio was absolute perfection, Victoria Connolly and Grayson Owens did a fantastic job and the fact it was Duet narration was the cherry on top!

Thank you so much NetGalley and Kayla for the ALC!
