My son enjoyed this sequel to the first book. He liked that it gave you the personal experience of someone in the war.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to preview this book.

This one didn’t hook me in like the first one did. The narrator, Ansel, was a very verbose young man, so some of his speeches seemed to slow the plot down at times. Still, it was very interesting historical fiction, set in Germany in the years just prior to WW2. Several characters, such as Rolf, returned from the first novel. As in that book, the author does a masterful job of showing how carefully and cunningly the Nazi Party planned and implemented its rise to power. The author’s notes at the end are interesting, and also chilling…
Looking forward to the next one in this series!
