Detectives Kane & Alton #25
As Sheriff Jenna Alton and he deputy Dave Kane the remote pine forest surrounding Black Rock Falls, Jenna's pulse races when she sees the glint of metal behind a line of a prison bus, the lifeless body of its driver slumped over the steering wheel, and it's four prisoners escaped into the wilderness. Jenna's heart pounds at the thought of the violent murders each of the fugitives committed. among them The Ice Pick Killer who drove women to remote locations before taking their innocent young lives. And worse, female warden, Amy Clark, is missing from the bus.
Although she is now heavily pregnant, not even Dave can persuade Jenna to take it easy. All Jenna's team are back alongside Jo, Carter, Beth Katz, Dax Styles and Jenna's new recruit, Raven. They are all chasing the missing prisoners while Dave and Wolfe are off on a top secret mission. This is another fast-paced read and it's action-packed from beginning to end. I could not put this book down. I was fully invested from the first page, knowing I wouldn't be disappointed.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #FearForHerLife in exchange for an honest review.

This is a brilliant crime thriller, and one of my favourites in this great series.
I think I enjoyed this one so much as there was lots going on and Jenna and Dave called on their friends and acquaintances to help.
With Jo, Carter, Styles, Beth and Raven on hand, the escaped criminals were on borrowed time.
I really felt for the prisoner officer they held hostage after their escape and the others who were victims of their twisted ways.
With Jenna being heavily pregnant, Dave tried to keep her protected, but if someone needs her help, Jenna will do all she can to get to them.
This is an action packed crime thriller that I’d highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

I was lucky to be an ARC reader for this book. This was my first read by D.K. Hood and I have to say, I was hooked. The story was gripping and there was so much going on that I was constantly wanting to find out what was going to happen. Even though this was a series, I think the author did a good job with background information on all of the characters where I could read this as a standalone. However, I think reading the books before this one would help a reader have a better idea of who the characters are. I’m a big fan of true crime stuff and having a book with 3 serial killers and a cartel boss as the villains was crazy!! I could vividly picture everything in my head for this book so I would recommend to anyone who enjoys thrillers or true crime

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Fear For Her Life’, book 25 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A fire has been started deliberately in the prison at Deer Lodge, Montana, and four of the most dangerous prisoners are in a bus heading for Block Rock Falls County Prison. As a helicopter hovers over the bus there’s the sound of gunfire and the driver is shot dead and the men break free taking with them the female prison officer who was accompanying them. These men are dangerous and Sheriff Jenna Alton with her husband Deputy Dave Kane gather everyone available to help capture them before there’s more killing.
‘Fear For Her Life’ is another heart-stopping thriller and probably the most intriguing and scariest yet. Based at Black Rock Falls, or Serial Killer Central’ as it’s often called, are Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane who I love to read about, and it’s great to have them working again with FBI Agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter together with Agents Beth Katz and Dex Styles based at Rattlesnake Creek. Although this is book 25, this series never gets stale as there are always new characters and new situations to get my heart thumping and my pulse rising, so please Ms Hood never stop writing about them especially as Jenna and Dave are about to meet the newest addition to their family.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
I have followed this, and other D. K. Hood series, and I have enjoyed them, however, with this one I found the writing slightly awkward, and it was more romance story then I personally enjoy.
Looking forward to the next one in this series, and thanks again for the eARC.

Crazy exciting & crazy dark😳
Dark suspense through & through😰🏞
4.5🌟 stars
Thrills and unpredictable killers run rife in this latest in the Alton and Kane series based in Black Rock Falls, Montana.
Sheriff Jenna may be weeks away from giving birth to their anxiously awaited child, but no one can stop her from getting in the mix when escaped serial killer convicts wreak havoc in her neck of the woods and start murdering locals. Hubby Deputy Kane branches off with Dr. Wolfe in their own thriller subplot. Both sides of the story are heavy on action, deadly deeds and victims, both innocents and dangerous criminals . From the moment a young girl sees her murdered grandfather dragged away and a female prison guard escort finds herself at the mercy of sadistic killer convicts, this story had me totally immersed.
An added thrill: cyber expert Agent Beth Katz/aka the vigilante Tarot Card Killer, a main character in a break off series set in Montana, gets involved and ready to exact deadly justice if the opportunity arises. With so many serial killers of women about the area, how could she resist!
When I'm reading a DK. Hood thriller everyday concerns slip away and I'm there. The author is so good at creating suspenseful, life and death plots.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Review shared on 3/17/25 on Goodreads, Bookbub and with Barnes & Noble and BAM. To be shared on kobo and Google Play when published.

This series keeps getting better and better!
I love all the characters. Especially Jenna and Dave. We have gone a long way with both of them throughout the series.
When a prison bus crashes….a bus containing serial killers….it’s up to Jenna, Dave and their team to get things under control before things escalate.
Fast-paced
Suspenseful
Page-turner
Twisty
Gripping
Fear for Her Life is another brilliant addition to the Detective Kane and Alton series.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Escaped violent prisoners on the loose just outside Black Rock Falls have Jenna and her team working hard to keep them from getting to town and killing more people. Even all our favourite FBI agents come to assist. An extra layer of danger is added when the team learns that one of the escapees is a cartel kingpin that wants Dave dead.
This was an action packed and gripping thriller. I really like the continued character development and having Beth come in to help. I look forward to the next book

I really don't know how the author continues to keep this series so fresh and gripping.
Number 25 and it is as addictive a read as the first. Brilliantly fast paced, I read this in one day and not only didn't I want to put it down I didn't want it to end.
All the characters, including those from the Beth Katz series, are here, bringing with them their unique personalities, which just adds to the intrigue.
Another brilliant addition to this excellent series by this oh so talented author.

I adore these characters so much. This was another great book! Fast paced and solidly written. These stories have such a solid character foundation when you have read the prior books you feel like you know them. This one was a tiny bit slower in my opinion than most of the book series but it was no less great. I enjoy the team and family parts as much as the high suspense and action. Over all it was a great read

Book 25 in the brilliant Kane and Alton series. I love these books and hope this series runs and runs. This was certainly a fast paced thriller with the action barely letting up from start to finish.
One thing to note though - the blurb isn't an accurate description of what happens. Jenna isn't as involved as it makes it seem, But putting that aside I was totally hooked and I can't wait to read number 26.

Following a fire, 4 prisoners are being transported to another prison by bus. Three are serial killers, the other is Eduard Souza the cartel boss who took Deputy Dave Kane and his son Tauri prisoner. The bus crashes, Souza escapes in the helicopter and the three remaining prisoners disappear into the woods taking the female prison officer escorting them hostage. On hearing the news Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane put plans in place to ensure that they and their son are protected at all times with the assistance of their existing Black Rock Falls team and their FBI colleagues from neighbouring counties. With the serial killers closing in on Black Rock Falls Jenna and her team do all they can to keep the townspeople safe while Dave Kane and his colleague Shane Wolfe leave on a separate mission to ensure Souza can never threaten the family again.
Another great instalment in the Kane and Alton series.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

This is a series with excellent characters that are both smart and capable, and the setting is great. The plot is good, and the story is fast and no-nonsense. An entertaining book that can be read as a stand-alone.

Fear for Her Life is the 25th book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. This book can easily be read as a standalone mystery or enjoyed as part of the series!
This book was fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat. I did not want to stop reading this book! I love the characters and I found the story to be absolutely captivating! This book was intense and I loved every minute of it!!! There were so many moments was I was scared for the characters that I’ve come to love. I was so happy that this was a crossover with the Special Agent Beth Katz series!!!
I highly recommend reading Fear for Her Life!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Fear for Her Life (Detectives Kane and Alton Book 25) by D.K. Hood
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Expected Publication Date: March 25, 2025

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review "Fear For Her Life", the 25th book in D.K. Hood's enormously successful Detectives Kane and Alton series.
When Eduardo Souza, the drug kingpin whom Dave and Jenna put in prison after he kidnapped their son to use as leverage, engineers a prison break, allowing three other homicidal maniacs the freedom to wreak havoc on Black Rock Falls and environs, it's all hands on deck. And the gang's all here: Jo and Carter of the FBI, Beth Katz and Dax Styles, the newest members of the team, Raven and his dog Ben, and of course Shane Wolfe and Norrell.
Nearing the end of her pregnancy, Jenna is nevertheless determined to protect her town and townsfolk, and when it appears that the escapees have left the forest (where they terrorized more than one person), she's even more determined to see an end to them. But then, Dave Kane and Shane Wolfe take off on a top secret mission, and the rest of the team are left to protect not only Jenna and Tauri, but all of Black Rock Falls.
As high-stakes as it gets, the suspense never lets up from page one to the end.
Highly recommended, but not as a standalone - there's just too much back story.

Here is to on another fantastic installment in the Kane & Alton series by DK Hood, it does not disappoint. The entire team is back, with Jo, Carter, Styles, Katz (The tarot card killer), and Raven all playing significant roles in book 25.
The story links back to a previous case when prisoners escape, and the team is on the hunt to track them down. One prisoner, in particular, has a vendetta and plans to eliminate them for putting him behind bars.
Overall, the story is both engaging and entertaining, making it a must-read for fans of the series.

Jenna is highly pregnant and insists on working a case where a cartel boss and four brutal serial killers crashes and the criminals escape into the forest.
Black Rock Falls is definitely Serial Killer Central!
Another absolutely stunning instalment of Detectives Kane and Alton.
I enjoyed this book immensely. Some parts made my heart pound uncomfortably, as the characters were in terribly dangerous situations.
I really like the way the author includes personal aspects of Jenna and Kane's family life as well, making the characters real, and not just detectives married to their work.
Looking forward to the next instalment, hopefully with a new addition to the family.
4/5 stars from me. I wholeheartedly recommend.

This action packed, addictive series never disappoints. Book 25 is just as fresh as book 1 with detectives Kane and Alton in pursuit of 4 escaped killers from a local prison. It's fast paced, jam packed full of suspense and held me enthralled until the last page. I really enjoyed seeing Beth appear in this book and hope we see more of her in future reads. I highly recommend the whole series to lovers of crime fiction. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This is book #25 of the Kane & Alton series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book as past storylines are explained briefly. We are back in Black Rock Falls and there are a group of escaped prisoners on the loose. Sheriff Alton is heavily pregnant and whilst she should be putting her feet up awaiting the imminent arrival, her and her team find themselves in the middle of a manhunt for several highly dangerous serial killers.
I love this series of books and this one was gripping right from the very beginning. If you've read any of the previous books, you know that Black Rock Falls is nicknamed Serial Killer Central, so you know there was going to be a serial killer to track down again...but having more than one to find seems more trickier. When one of those escapees is an old enemy of Deputy Dave Kane, we find that he needs to go on his own mission to track him down. The book is fast paced right from the very beginning and the action continues as the storyline moves on. All my favourite characters from the previous books are back to help Alton with the investigation and there are even some ones I haven't met before. I did love how Raven was more included in this storyline, and I'll look forward to future books to see where his character's story goes - I think he might now be my favourite character! We also have a plethora of our four legged canine friends in the storyline who are just as welcome as the two legged ones!
The storyline had me hooked, and I had my heart in my mouth for most of the book. It was filled with tension and suspense, and the location of Black Rock Falls and the surrounding forests made it all the more nerve-wracking! It is a little gruesome at times, but that makes it all the more fun!! If you are looking for a high action crime series, then look no more! This series is still just as exciting as it was at the beginning, despite being 25 books in!! I can't wait for the next instalment! Would recommend!

Fear for Her Life (Detectives Kane and Alton, #25) Fast paced, intense with interesting characters, convoluted murders and motives. Black Rock Falls more than earns the serial killer central title in this story. All the team is involved in the investigations of the multiple cases. Engrossing read and hard to put down. One of the best in the Detectives Kane and Alton series
Thank you to the DK Hood, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview
