Wow! This was a really fascinating book! A fast paced mafia romance story between two lonely and heartbroken people.  This was the third book in the series that can be read as a stand-alone yet there were spoilers. Jake was the head of his mafia family for unknown reasons to him. His quest was to find out why and get those responsible for trying to kill him. The bad guys were shooting at him and Sawyer was the unfortunate bystander to all the bad shit that was happening.  She suffered from a bad break up and needed/ wanted to find her distant cousin in New York. She needed a lot of love and self care. She didn’t warrant that she would be kidnapped by the sexy ex cop. Together they were great. There were many yummy and steamy sex scenes. I was definitely cheering for them to get together as a couple. Sawyer’s family were absolutely adorable! She was very blessed to have such a caring and badass family. The bad guy was a distant cousin that was more meh than anything else. I was a bit sad that the other two main guys from the previous books didn’t do much in this one. I wanted to know more about Blake. She was an enigma to me. Hopefully there would be a book on her! The ending was adorable for a mafia love story. Overall, this was a really great and fun story. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for my review.

This book had me on the fence the entire time! and the humor was so good!
This was such a good palate cleanser for me between my romantasy books I've been reading and I am so happy I picked this up!
I will say the plot line was pretty rushed in my opinion and the insta love wasn't great but it wasn't too bad either. I will definitely be picking up more from this author.

ooo goodness the insta love was strong in this one.....
i feel like throughout this book there just wasn't a connection between our main characters and the conversations they would have were jumping all over the place and very confusing at times. the wild thing is... this romance was over a few days and I just don't think that is realistic at all....

I’m not a fan of insta love, I didn’t pick up on any chemistry between the two main characters and honestly the whole plot was convoluted. I hadn’t read the earlier instalments of the series and this did add to the confusion so maybe it won’t quite work as a standalone, but also I assume Walden and West are the MMCs in the previous books and this just made them look like jerks.
Not for me sorry.

Jake and Sawyer had a very not so cute, meet cute!

This story starts off with Sawyer in the big city trying to escape the pain of her hometown while trying to reconnect with family. She gets caught up in a very unconventional situation and thus begins the wild ride!

Jake and Sawyer should not have crossed paths and yet fate decided these two need to be a part of the others life. It’s a very intense story and the end was a surprise I didn’t see coming but I loved how Jake showed Sawyer that she is enough.

A very interesting and absolutely amazing story!

Tijan has done it again. Every time I read one of her books it gives me the best butterflies and with this one, it was all because of Jake and Sawyer. Something about a mafia backdrop and a grumpy MMC that falls first was what it made it such a good book. Make sure you read Canary if you’re looking for another Tijan read with suspense and spice!

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley the eARC from Author Tijan. This my first book by this author. This was an easy read that had some funny moments and spice 🌶️🌶️ as well. Swayer travels to New York from Montana leaving behind her ex-fiancé for her bucket tourist list. She gets more marked off her list than she planned and finds more on this trip and really starts to live her life.

The instant lust felt unreal and there was no character development. The MFC has some funny internal dialog but it’s feels like she has ADD with some of the dialog between her and the MMC. It’s a dual POV which I do love. If you are looking for a fast pace romance read, this if for you.

This was an easy read, but a little too silly for me. It’s perfect if you are in the mood for a mafia/ forced proximity/ enemies to lovers vibe.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 Stars
I'm a big fan of Tijan's books, but I have to admit that this series is a little harder for me to get into than her others. It takes me longer to get into the characters, the plot, and the romance. That continued with A Captive Situation. I felt like I wasn't completely sold on this book until the halfway mark. I think that is because that is where the romance truly started to bloom. Jake and Sawyer were both slightly unhinged and it made them work well together. The action also ramped up at this point and was more fun when it involved both of them together. In the end, I found Jake, Sawyer, and all the wild friends and family to be a lot of fun.

Mafia romance is usually my go to for a pallet cleanser. While I enjoyed this book, it felt incomplete to me. I wanted to see a resolution to sawyers past or at least what her aunts did to Beck. I loved Sawyers family they were the perfect amount of crazy, wild and funny.
While this book wasn't something that was life changing, it was a good time, and I enjoyed my reading it.
Thank you for NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC copy of this book.

A Dirty Business / A Cruel Arrangement was my first introduction to the world of Mafia romance a couple of years ago and I absolutely ate them up. They were such a fun time and getting to the end of the second book was a really bittersweet moment as I had had enjoyed them so much but it also felt as though the story had concluded in a satisfying way. Needless to say, I was very intrigued and excited when I saw that we would be getting more books in the Kings of New York series; I was also a little bit nervous because where would the story go?

A Captive Situation follows Jake Worthing who we saw a little bit on the periphery of the story in books 1 and 2 as he navigates being made the head of his Mafia family after spending his adult life working as a cop and doing his best to avoid the dirtier side of his family. He is paired with Sawyer, a sweet woman who has come to New York after the man she was supposed to marry has left her for her best friend.

This is a book that doesn't take itself too seriously and made me laugh out loud at times due to the sheer ridiculousness of it and I was so on board for it every step of the way. If you enjoyed the slightly unhingedness that we got from Molly in her and Ashton's book, you will also really enjoy the joie de vive that Sawyer has at finding herself in the world of contracts on people's heads and feuding mafia families. We also get to see a fairly decent amount of Ashton with a hint of Trace and his family too.

I really appreciated the way that this book expanded out the world that had been established and played with some of the hints for the future that we had in the first two books. It also sets up at least one further book in this series which I am so incredibly fascinated to read and follow some more dangerous mafia characters. I am in particularly looking forward to more Blake 👀

The third book in the series was different than the other two. A little more rough on edges but a great story. It was funny with Sawyers crazy family in the mix. I can’t wait for the next book! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC

Too many things happened but also not enough. Felt like ages passed but actually only a few days had. It felt rushed but slow. It was enjoyable, entertaining and steaming but also predictable and a bit boring. I did really love the characters of Sawyer and Jake.

A Captive Situation by Tijan, published by Montlake is book 3 in the Kings of New York Series.
Every book is about another couple and can easily be read as a stand alone. And yes, there are a few cross overs.
Sawyer has had a rough time. Sorry not sorry no spoilers here. And then there's hot grumpy mcgrumperson, mrally fragwürdig Jake who doesn't give a d.
An highly entertaining high quality story from one of my few one click authors.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. I request4ed this book based on the author alone. I read a book of hers a few years ago. I stopped mid-way to Google what that book was called and realized I read book 1 and was in the middle of book 3. I instantly bought book 2 and kept on with 3. Tijan has such a great writing technique! I love any mafia romance mostly because it combines smut and the mob,. This one did that all and more! I smiled, i laughed, i giggled, i got hot and bothered! You need this book in your life!

A captive situation is a brand new book by Tijan. As someone who's enjoyed her previous works, i was anticipating this one. I had so much fun while reading this and it took me out of a reading slump. Tijan's writing is always perfect to me. It captures you from the get go and i couldn't stop reading this book. It was dark but delicious and i loved the plot, the romance and the dynamics we get to see. The main characters are perfect for each other and I loved their relationship dynamic but also them as individuals. I think it's better to go blind into this book and knowing as little as possible, so you can be surprised. Highly recommend this one. Another fantastic read by this author!

A Captive Situation is a fast-paced Mafia thriller filled with angst and intensity!

All Mafia leaders have a weakness if you know where to look...

The story is told from both Sawyer and Jake, the main characters. Jake is a lethal dose of danger and dominance - his character screamed 'Mafia'. It set the mood for A Captive Situation and had a great contrast between Sawyer. She was fierce, yet gentle in many ways. With these two parallels, the book had a balance of crazy action and high-strung sexual chemistry 🙈

The fast plot was highlighted with fight scenes, kidnappings and many spicy scenes! However, the composition of the writing lacked detail. With this neglect of world-building and character development the impact of the novel fell flat. A swift plot develops a weak romantic connection as well, which was rather disappointing...

Sawyer and Jake's story held my attention, though, and I found myself wanting more. I'd recommend A Captive Situation to those who love fast-paced, spicy reads 💘
