A little bit of crazy can go a long way - jilted, cheated on, betrayed, and a bit unbalanced - of course that just leads to kidnapping to escape a mob hit! The whacky family that seems to show up and obsession lurking everywhere. Action, suspense and a good amount of simmer to boiling keep everything interesting.

I needed a palate cleansing on my reading of a different genre and this delivered. To me this was a fun, easy read, that explored two characters that were both dealing with past conflicts that had scarred them.

Sawyer went to be a tourist in NYC after being cheated and dumped by her ex-fiance. Instead of the normal things to do on her tourist checklist, she ended up in with a stranger who kidnapped her for her own good.

Jake a morally gray, grumpy ex-cop with ties to the mafia, is dealing with greif and guilt ends up kidnapping Sawyer to help keep her safe.

Their attraction was instant, Sawyer had a bit of sass, to help even out some of Jake's grumpiness and I enjoyed their banter. The story moved along at a decent pace.

This is book 3 in a series, but it can be read as a stand alone. There are some other characters at play from previous books, but I hadn't read them and was not lost on the storyline.

I enjoyed this story and it does make me curious enough to go back and read the first 2 books.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and review.

Tijan is one of my favorite authors, I've read lots of books written by this author for the suspense, the romance, and the angst you'll typically find in a Tijan book. However, I found this book didn't resonate with me., the writing wasn't up to the usual standard. The storyline was hard to follow and there were moments I felt like leaving the story.

I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for providing an early copy.

Tijan is one of my guilty pleasure authors. Unfortunately this book did not do it for me. The writing wasn’t great and the story was difficult to follow and make sense of. I was disappointed. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the early read.

Tijan has once again crafted a gripping, heart-pounding romance with A Captive Situation. From the very first page, this book sweeps you into a whirlwind of emotions, suspense, and undeniable chemistry that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

The protagonist’s emotional journey is raw and real, caught between the heartache of a broken relationship and the desire to move forward. Enter Jake Worthing: brooding, grumpy, and impossibly hot. Their first meeting is charged with tension, as he’s a bit of a jerk but in that irresistibly magnetic way that makes their dynamic hard to ignore. There’s instant chemistry, though it's complicated by their witty, bantering exchanges.

Things take a serious turn when she finds herself in a deadly situation and stuck with Jake—who she has no choice but to trust. The tension between them builds as danger closes in, and what starts as a reluctant pairing soon becomes a combustible mix of passion and peril. The stakes are high, and Tijan’s mastery at weaving suspense into the romance is on full display.

The mafia’s looming presence adds a thrilling edge to the story, but at its heart, A Captive Situation is about healing and self-discovery. As both characters are forced to confront their pasts, you get a raw, emotional look at their vulnerabilities and growth. The slow-burn romance against this backdrop of danger keeps you on the edge of your seat, eager to see how it all unfolds.

Tijan’s writing is as compelling as ever—vivid, intense, and impossible to put down. She effortlessly captures the complexities of her characters, making them feel real and relatable, even amid the chaos they face. The pacing is spot-on, keeping you engaged while allowing for emotional depth and character development.

A Captive Situation is a perfect blend of romance, suspense, and emotional depth. If you're a fan of intense, steamy reads with high stakes and unforgettable characters, this one is an absolute must-read!

This was so silly and easy to read. Sawyer needs therapy for her past and really needs to contemplate her life decisions. Her family seems absolutely nuts and Jake is so morally grey. Don’t think about this book too much and you will enjoy it. Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
