A Captive Situation by Tijan has a gripping and emotionally charged storyline. This one follows Sawyer who finds herself in a city far from home, trying to escape the heartbreak of seeing her best friend marry her college sweetheart. The betrayal from them both really cut Sawyer deep and she struggled with it.
She finds herself riding the subway, seemingly on the verge of a breakdown. I did find this rather unusual, given she was expecting people to break out into song. I was quite surprised when I found out her age. Her behaviour was that of someone who was much younger.
It is on the subway that Sawyer sees Jake. Right away she is intrigued. I did find their insta-attraction a bit unusual, but I did push through.
Tijan's writing style is unique, with vivid descriptions and a strong sense of atmosphere that brings the story to life. She weaves a tale of love, danger, and suspense as the protagonist becomes entangled in a series of events that lead to her being kidnapped by Jake.
The way in which she was kidnapped also, felt a bit odd. Sawyer finds herself in the police station after stalking a cousin she has not yet met. This is where she runs into Jake again and his cousin.
The chemistry between Sawyer and Jake is palpable, and their interactions are filled with tension, humour, and undeniable attraction. The plot is fast-paced and full of twists and turns that keep the reader engaged.
Overall a decent read for readers of contemporary romance and romantic suspense.

A fun, mysterious, romance! Sawyer and Jake had an interesting meeting. From there, these two struggle to navigate the situation they are in.

I loved this book. I love how Jake and Sawyer met. And everything that happened after was hilarious. Poor Sawyer goes to New York for one thing and ends up entangled in something else completely.
Sawyers family is something else. The way Jake describes them is hilarious. The way Sawyerβs family text is out of control. Jakeβs cousins are exactly how he describes them. The things he says to his uncle when heβs trying to get answers is something else.
I love how things heat up instantly, all the action and every twist and turn.
I highly recommend this book.

A Captive Situation by Tijan continues her King of New York series about warring mafia families. Jake Worthing is an ex (dirty) cop and de facto head of the Worthing mafia family, and he is begrudgingly (and temporarily) allied with the other two local mafia families. While picking up his cousin from the local precinct, he meets Sawyer, a tourist who has come to the city to escape after her fiancΓ© dumped her for her best friend. To make herself seem less pathetic, she's also in town to try to connect with a cousin she's never met, to try to mend the rift in her family, only she wound up in a police station after a semi-public meltdown. But now there's a problem--Jake has a bounty on his head, and after she's seen with him, her life is now in danger, too. So Jake does what any good mafia boss would do in that situation--kidnaps the beautiful woman for her own safety.
Is it dark? A little. Violent? Sure. But it was just as addicting, propulsive, and sexy as the first two books. If you love mafia romance, this series is a must read. I've loved every installment.

This was a complete rollercoaster. A story packed with suspense, mystery and an awful lot of questionsβ¦.
It took me a while to settle in to the charactersβ¦especially Sawyer. However once I did and started to understand the dynamics of Jakeβs lives I really got into the story.
Jake is a wonderful surprise, I loved how protective he was of the two most important people to him. Sawyerβs family is completely bonkers but in a great wayβ¦they had me chuckling although it did get a bit chaotic at times!!
This is another gritty trawl through the mafia world of New York. The suspenseful moments were written really wellβ¦you could see the drama unfold with such brilliant story telling. My only quibble would be some of the inner ramblings from Sawyer did drag out a bit.
Iβm really excited to see if we get back to these Kings of New York as I feel there may still be a couple of interesting characters stories to comeβ¦..hereβs hoping!!

I love all of Tijanβs books! This one was a little different because you had the female who had a loving, if not semi crazy, family behind her. Jake on the other hand does not have that so she helped him in that regard. He definitely opened her eyes to what true love & happiness is though. I will need to do a reread for the 3 books in this series together. Cannot wait for her next book.

This was a great read. I enjoyed the connection between Jake and Sawyer.
"You're not a woman that a guy leaves. l know that much."
Sawyer was a woman who'd lost everything. Jake was a man who was on the brink of losing everything. When Sawyer gets caught in the crosshairs of his life, there's nothing he won't do to keep her safe. I really liked Sawyer and how she gets swept up in the events of Jake's life. I swooned at what he was willing to do to put Sawyer first and keep her safe.

Not going to lie when I first started reading I wasn't sure about Sawyer. She had me a little confused but I'm so glad I went with it because she sure grew on me. She made the story line just that more enjoyable. I loved how even though it's a mafia romance how there where times you just couldn't help but laugh. I would've love to have seen a little more into there future but over all it was a great book with a great story line I highly recommend.

This is the first book I have read by this author, overall, I liked the story, most of the characters, the words did flow. However, the FMC had a hard time getting into her story line, just something about her, and I believe maybe this was planned, to make us question it, lol. She is 36 years old, and she didnβt see the signs around her for 20 years of what was going on around her. But at the same time, I understand it.
.
Some of what you will get in this read:
#emotional trauma
#mafia situation
#deadly & heated
#insta love
The FMC her name is Sawyer, 36 years old, sheβs a strange one and really struggling mentally, she is lost. She just moved to New York to get a fresh start after she found out her finance of 20 YEARS was cheating on her with her best friend for a very long time. She never saw the signs. Well one day she was on the subway, and she met a man, his name is Jake, they were talking, then he was gone, chasing some guy. Thatβs just her luck another one ran. She encounters him again, witnesses something she shouldn't have seen, and ends up at the police station where she sees Jake once more. Something about that man, she leaves and then she is kidnapped, by Jake! Who is this Jake?
Well Jake Worthing, only good thing about this man is he is loyal to his word when given and loyalty to those he cares about. Otherwise, he is a hot corrupt cop, in with the mafia. Just someone you want to date after a 20-year breakup. He kidnapped her to protect her; remember she witnessed something she shouldnβt of seen. You need to read, if I keep talking, I will give it away. However, I have a couple favorite quotes I saved from the book:
I was a cougar, a total cougar. βIβm the older than you, βIβd never been the older woman. I was now the older woman. I didnβt know how I felt about this. βMi like your sugar mama.β A grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. βYouβre a year older than me. And that is not a sugar mama situation.β
Jake gave Sawyer the perfect nickname. βLittle Lunatic.β
βI was taking her whether she wanted to go or not. She was mine. It was that simple. My captive. My cross to bear. My woman, mine.β

This one was an interesting team and took a while to settle into. This is my first book by Tijan though they have been on my radar for a while. It was not a hooked from the first page read, however the start did intrigue me enough to carry on and once the main portion of the story kicked in, I became fully invested in this plot and this duo.
I enjoyed the book and the pacing was good, the characters were interesting and sawyers family are great with the added comedic elemen. I will need to go back and read the first two books and see the stories for previous couple that make an appearance in this story. All in all it was enjoyable and entertaining and I look forward to reading more.

Such a great read. This book focuses on Justin's older brother Jake Worthing(formerly a cop). After his brother's death, Jake has a contract on his head and he is willing to do anything to be remove from the list and try to find out who's responsible for it. Along the way, he unexpectedly meet Sawyer(the lunatic a nickname that was given by Jake) on the subway train. Sawyer on the other hand, left Montana because of the tumultuous situation that she was dealing with. She ended up in New York because she wanted to see her cousin, to do tourist things so she can cross it off from her bucket list and most of all trying to escape the harsh reality of her failed relationship with her ex. However, it wasn't her plan to end up getting handcuffed and taken to the police station, get kidnapped, and worse of all, her name ended up on the contract as well. Jake and Sawyer are trying hard to stay alive together, protecting their love ones and also at the same time, trying to take down their enemy. Betrayal, sacrifice, and love comes with a price. A deal was made and a war was already happening. Can't wait to find out what happens next in book 4 - Creighton and Blake.

3.5βοΈ After spending 18 years with her boyfriend Beck, two of those years finally engaged, Beck admits to her that heβs been cheating on her with her best friend. Sawyer then flees to New York where she meets Jake on the subway who has Mafia ties. Her second meeting with him leads her to being kidnapped by him after witnessing an attempted hit on him. Now stuck in this captive situation, Sawyer doesnβt expect to fall in love with him.
Iβm a big fan of Tijan, but this one was a bit of a miss for me. It was hard to get into this story. Once it got got going I did enjoy it and the dynamic between Sawyer and Jake, but it took awhile for me to get there. I also didnβt really understand Sawyer. Youβre telling me youβve been with the same dude since college and it took him SIXTEEN years to propose? Thatβs a bit wild lol. Overall a fun read that I read as a standalone, but it is book 3 in a series.

A captive Situation is a mafia dark romance with forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and lots of suspense.
After Sawyer ends things with her fiance' for cheating on her with her best friend and getting her pregnant, she takes a trip to meet a distant cousin. She bumps into a guy in the subway but her thoughts are on her ex and the situation, she doesn't really pay much attention. But when she's hauled off to the police station later on in the day, that same guy shows up. His name is Jake and he's a former police officer. She ends up accompanying him and his cousin, but ends up getting stuck with him when he's attacked in the street. They find out a hit has been put on them and they need to find out why. At first Sawyer doesn't believe any of it, but she soon realizes how wrong she was. She also realizes, she's feeling things for Jake she never felt with her ex.
I loved the tension and the banter between them. They have such great chemistry together and when they decide to give in to what their hearts and telling them, they are explosive. It's spicy!! Sawyer becomes a completely different person with Jake. And Jake knows in his heart, Sawyer is his and will never be anyone else's. He will burn the world down before he lets someone harm her.
I didnt read any of the other books in the series and this can be read as a standalone. I didn't feel like I was missing anything, but now, I can't wait to see what's next or whose story will take shape next.

Dang Tijan You did it again. It seems every book that I read of yours you end up ripping my heart out at some point during it. But then you put it back together and bring me great joy. Masterful. Loved how action packed this story is. And as usual, your write damaged characters like a genius. Thank you for another wonderful book and an excellent addition to this series.

The long awaited third instalment in the Kings of New York series and A Captive Situation features the morally grey undercover detective Jake Worthing who throughout the earlier two books has been a bit of an ambiguous character leaving readers never been quite sure just how dirty a cop he was, well heβs about to show everyone just what he was capable of after what I suppose could be termed a βNew York meet cuteβ when after a run in with Sawyer on the subway leads to several random run ins with her before he ends up kidnapping herβ¦..for her own safety of course which ultimately leads them on an adventure across the city with a mysterious Kingpin hot on their heels and a contract on their heads.
As with the previous books the hero is torn between two worlds with detective Jake forced to choose between law enforcement and his mafia family and while I liked his character and his story I donβt think this will be my favourite book in the series. For some reason it felt like two different authors were writing it and their flow was off. The opening chapters felt a bit angsty centred around Sawyer and her drama. It seemed to drag, and Iβll admit I was shocked when I discovered her age as she came across as being a lot younger and immature at times. She seemed quite needy with stalkerish tendencies. It also didnβt read true how Jake went from looking at her as an inconvenience to a severe case of instalove especially when heβd already planned his future which sounded like he didnβt care what happened to him, heading on a suicide mission and that was before hitmen started trying to kill him. Things did pick up as the story progressed and the action gained in momentum and, just saying Iβm looking forward to Creighton Laneβs story and his obsession which sounds like it will be epic. I did love Sawyerβs family even though they let waste half her life on her cheating fiancΓ© and there was needed levity brought to the story by Sawyerβs nunchuck wielding aunts and the visual Tijan inspired of these senior ladies leaping from the back of a minivan in a crouching ninja style will stay with me for a long time and even now Iβm smiling about that particular scene.

This book definitely had a lot of potential but it just didn't hit for me. It felt a little disconnected. It was part of a series but it can read as a stand alone (even though you will be missing some context). Overall ok.

Tijan strikes again with A Captive Situation, a gritty, fast-paced romantic suspense that hooks you with heartbreak and drags you into a chaotic whirlwind of danger, sizzling chemistry, and emotional reckoning.
We meet our heroine in the emotional wreckage of what should have been her wedding dayβonly itβs not her walking down the aisle. Instead, sheβs dodging feelings and subway crowds in a brand-new city when she collidesβliterally and emotionallyβwith Jake Worthing. Heβs grumpy, infuriatingly attractive, and has the subtlety of a freight train. Their first encounter is sharp and awkwardly funny, setting the tone for a dynamic thatβs all heat, tension, and reluctant attraction.
But just when you think youβre getting a snarky enemies-to-lovers rom-com, Tijan flips the scriptβhard. A shooting. A kidnapping. A deeper, more tangled backstory. And suddenly, our heroine is pulled into Jakeβs shadowy world, where every move could be life or death, and trust becomes a currency sheβs not sure she can afford.
Tijanβs writing crackles with emotional intensity. The heroineβs voice is raw and vulnerable but never weakβsheβs layered, scarred, and surprisingly resilient. Jake, for all his stone-faced attitude, hides depths that unravel slowly and satisfyingly. Their relationship is messy, passionate, and often infuriatingβbut it works. There's also the signature Tijan blend of dark intrigue and slow-burning romance that fans will recognize and devour.
If thereβs a critique, itβs that the plot occasionally leans into melodrama, and some turns feel a bit over the topβbut in true Tijan fashion, youβll be flipping pages too fast to care.
Bottom line: A Captive Situation is a chaotic thrill ride of emotion, suspense, and heartache-turned-desire. Itβs for readers who love their romance with danger, grumpy-hot protectors, and a heroine who finds her strength in the most unexpected of situations.

This is a wild ride with plenty of action and amazing characters. After a bad ending to a relationship that spanned close to two decades, Sawyer heads to NY for a change of scenery. She is trying to meet her estranged family and mend fences. She gets so much more. She finds herself on the run and in the middle of a mafia war. We get to see her character grow strong and confident as she goes through her NY adventures.
The story was fast paced and so much fun. The danger and excitement was blended with laughter. Jake was the serious, broody, morally grey ex police officer with mafia ties. His story is tragic. He does what he had to go to survive and keep Sawyer alive. Some of the things he did were not exactly the best but they kept her alive. He is loyal and will burn down the world for her.
Sawyer and the aunt brigade added a lighter side filled with laughter and love. This family could be more dangerous than the actual bad guys.
The epilogue gives us a glimpse of their HEA.

So this book was interesting it started a little slow for me and the ending I dint know if Sawyer was just a little bit crazy or what it seemed a bit extreme but whatever Jake seemed to like her brand of crazy. So we're did these mutual exclusive crazy people first meet well it all began on the subway in New York but let's just say Sawyer was already at a loss before she got dragged into Jake's world of murder and mayham and Sawyer really need a change maybe not the one she expected who new when your ex betrayed you after 18 years and your supposed wedding that she would get the shaft and her ex bestfriend would get the ring so Sawyer decided she needed to meet her cousin and that's how these to crazy lovebirds met one train ride and arrest and some equally crazy family and you get kidnapped and caught in the middle of a mafia war and some love. This book is crazy its allot and some of the twists it took I'm just wondering if it's really over for Sawyer and Jake would I read more about them yes because as over the top as this book was it was fun to read. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review
