My daughter loved this book. It’s such an adorable way to teach rhyming to a little kid. She had fun guess which rhyming word was on the next page.

This is such a fun and sweet story about reading and that it's not as scary as some people maybe think it is. The rhymes and different word families make it fun to follow and I can imagine that when you read it with a child, you could also let them guess the matching words. In the end of the book are also the different word families a bit explained.
It's also really beautifully illustrated. The monster is cute and doesn't look scary at all.
Thank you to Netgalley and Capstone for this EARC!

This is a cute story, and will be fun for any young students who are familiar with the computer program, Teach Your Monster to Read. I love the emphasis on phonics and word families, the rhymes, and illustrations. This would be an ideal read-aloud for a mini lesson before learning about word families.
I recommend this book for schools and libraries.

This book is adorable! I’m a huge reader and am hoping to facilitate an environment where I can help kids in my life love reading too. This book helps take some of the anxiety off of learning in a fun way! The illustrations are great, and I loved the word family charts spread throughout the book that would help facilitate conversation outside of the text.

Teaching can be one of the best ways to learn, and that’s exactly what happens in this charming story when a little girl tries to teach her monster friend how to read and ends up learning new things herself.
The little girl is excited to teach her monster friend how to read. But she gets a little too enthusiastic, and her friend gets overwhelmed and runs off and hides. As she searches for him, she uses clues from word families (like red, bed, fed, led, shed) to track him down.
In the end, they find each other and agree to continue the reading lessons at a pace that suits them both. The true magic here is that the human reader of this book is also learning all about phonetics and how to read! Definitely a win-win!
This adorably illustrated book, written in charming verse of course, is a cute homage to reading and a fun lesson for pre-readers.
Thank you @netgalley and Capstone for the eARC of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

As a mother of my own little monsters, one who is autistic and struggle to read this was the absolute best book to read to them. My daughter who is easily disinterested in books was enthralled every page and said she couldn't wait to be like Monster and learn to read too! This has definitely inspired a whole new love of reading within my 6 year old and can be relatable for even nuerodivergent monsters who are easily distracted. You will love this book, that is cute and inspired a want for knowledge, and so will your little monsters.

My brother loved this book!
Cute, full of nice designs, and don't forget the word families. Quite educational, and if my brother loved it, kindergarteners definitely will

This was so cute and my son was so invested in this! He loved reading this with me and has been asking to read it multiple times since! This would be such a cute book to have in a school setting!!

Mother of a 5yo and 8yo here and we LOVED this book! This is such a fun rhyming children's book and anything that promotes reading is an added bonus! Looking forward to finding other books by Christianne Jones to read with the kids.

This is a fantastic choice for emerging readers and for making literacy connections! The rhyming word families were fun to read aloud and got my kids chiming in at every turn!

I am an elementary librarian and I cannot wait to get a copy of this for our library! Our kindergarteners and first graders love rhyming and this book is absolutely perfect for teaching word families! The pictures in this book are very colorful and keep the reader engaged. The monster and girl are the sweetest and I love that she is trying her best to help her monster! Can’t wait to bring it to our library!

What a cute book! I read this to my 3 and 5 year old daughters, and they both loved it. The pictures were engaging for my 3 year old, and the rhymes were intuitive enough that my 5 year old was able to confidently finish the sentences. As a school psychologist, I love the age appropriate way that the word families were presented and would happily recommend this to any emergent reader.

Super cute way to introduce word families to kids or support prior knowledge! I thought the pictures were eye-catching and fun. The text would hook my students and word family lessons would be easy to tie into this. Adorable!

I will be SPRINTING to get this in print once it's published—this is gold.
Even though my son is only 2ish, I don't want to risk not having this on hand in the next few years. I had totally forgotten about the concept of word families until this book :') What an adorable presentation of the idea.
The overarching story of her monster's fear is also as adorable as it is valuable.
& the illustrations? ADORABLE!
A must for our lil family bookshelf.

This delightful book features an endearing monster character who guides young readers through an engaging journey of word discovery. Through clever rhyming patterns, it expertly weaves together word families and vocabulary building, making learning both fun and interactive. The story brilliantly encourages children to participate by guessing words aloud, keeping them thoroughly engaged from start to finish. The interactive format transforms what could be a simple reading session into an exciting learning adventure. An excellent educational resource that manages to be both entertaining and instructive - truly a must-have for young learners developing their reading skills

I requested this from NetGalley to keep my little kiddos entertained at the Gymnastics gym, and they loved it. The "word families" or rhyming was really fun for them and we found some new fun rhymes for our nightly "down by the bay" before bed.
The illustrations were also on point. My 4 yos (twins) like to "read" from the pictures, and they clearly could read and comprehend the story from the illustrations.

A fun, interactive picture book that makes early literacy engaging! I love how the reader becomes part of the learning process—helping the monster read by finding hidden words and solving playful riddles.
The story is bright, kind, and full of humor, making it an enjoyable way to introduce phonemic awareness. A great pick for little ones starting their reading journey.

A playful but informative story that helps children with their phonemic awareness. When our protagonist attempts to teach her monster how to read, the monster is NOT having it and runs away! Can she save the day and find her monster by using her knowledge of word families and rhymes?
With vibrant illustrations and a silly story to match, this is sure to keep a child's attention while teaching valuable skills to set them up for successful reading.
