This book is so cute! It starts off with the monster not wanting to read and wanting to get rid of the books. The girl in the story starts by saying that she got carried away which in turn caused the monster to become overwhelmed and not want to read anymore. The monster runs away and the little girl looks everywhere for him. The monster later shows up with all of the books he threw away and at the end, they finally learn to read together.
This book will definitely help kids learn many different sounds and words

How to Teach Your Monster to Read is a children's book that tells the story of a little girl who is helping her monster, a member of her family, to read. The monster, an anthropomorphic realization of her id, is hesitant to try and learn new things about reading because they're difficult. Through a story set in a comfortable space, the home, the monster is eventually found opening up to learning new things despite their initial hesitance. The illustrations and setting give readers the chance to learn about word families and identify new concepts based on recognizable objects and experiences from their lives. Recommended for young readers learning about rhyming schemes through a fun and silly story.

I gave this to my ten year old son to read. He said he liked the overall story but feels like it was not appropriate for his age group (I should have checked before requesting). He said he wishes there was more to the story but thinks kids in first grade would enjoy it.

This is such an adorable and fun book! As a pre-k teacher I can absolutely imagine reading it to my students and them enjoying it! My favorite part of teaching is literacy. I highly enjoy reading and teaching my students to read. I love the illustrations in this book. They are bright and engaging. When I read to my students, I love using books where they can try to fill in a rhyme and this book is designed for that. Some children might feel scared or intimidated about learning to read and this book addresses those fears as the monster in it feels just that way. The little girl, on the other hand, loves to read and wants to ease her monster’s worries. As she hunts for where he has disappeared to, she creates rhymes and we see in the illustrations, other words that also rhyme with that. This book is a fun way to not only read, but to teach my students some new rhymes and have them help me come up with others. I will definitely put this book on my wish list to purchase for my classroom!

Such a fun and cute read! The title, story, and artwork are very appealing. This would be great to read to Children to get them interested in books!

What a wonderful story! This will be a great book to recommend our families read aloud to their kids.

So cute! A prefect way to get children excited about reading. The fun play on words and rhymes was prefect and a good way to make kids want to interact with the story.
I also don't want to neglect touching on the artwork. The color and images were very adorable and will do a great job at drawing a child's eye and keeping their attention.

What a delightful., silly and fun book!
A great way to learn word families - fun and rhyming to get little ones interested! I loved the monster and it's journey to getting comfortable with the idea of learning to read after struggling at first!
Perfect for new readers, especially ones that may have had a rough start or feel overwhelmed!
