I didn't know what to expect from this book even until the very end. Was this all about what fear can do to you? Was this all in their heads? What was real??? These are just some of the many questions this book will have you asking throughout its entirety.
A haunted highway, haunted pasts, can they become one in the same?
Interesting concept with relatable characters. I felt the creep factor of the story from the beginning. I could not put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

For anyone who reads my reviews you know I don't read most of the synopsis of books before I dive right in- I wish I would have with this one.
The only reason I say that is because I don't really do paranormal/mythical kind of stuff, but I am going to rate it fairly and equitably.
There are trigger warnings that need to be added/addressed before I begin. If child abuse/parent child neglect bothers you, you may want to stray away from this one.
White Line Fever starts off a little slow and honestly I wasn't quite sure where things were going for a little bit. It wasn't until about 30% in that I felt like I had an understanding of what was actually going on and where the book was headed. And then I got into it a little more. And it is a walk through the lives of these women as they try to make it to the other side of this psychotic forest to find their spa weekend.
I can understand why people struggled with this book, but I enjoyed the ride when I finally figured out the destination and the passengers with me.
This book is for you if:
✔ you love books about friendship
✔ you love paranormal
✔ you don't mind being a little lost at the beginning/enjoying the ride
✔ trigger warnings don't apply
❌ you need a straightforward story
❌ clear cut mystery is necessary
❌ can't handle anything ambiguous.
So if you're looking for something a little different, this is for you. This was 3.5 stars for me rounded up to 4.

This book was just not for me. It may have been the writing style or just the theme of the book. I was interested at first but eventually I sort of lost interest and sometimes had a hard time following what was going on. I was close to a DNF but it did interest me enough to listen to the end to try and find answers. It just sort of fell flat for me. This was just not a book that was up my alley.

You know what, this was a pretty good horror novel imo. It's full of tension, cliffhangers (sometimes literally!), and monsters — human and otherwise. I relished every high-stakes moment where I knew for sure the next chapter would switch from the present timeline to the past or vice versa. I liked the parallel journeys our main characters went through to heal and confront their childhood traumas throughout the novel. The paranormal horror was often less horrific than the characters' real experiences — I imagine intentionally so. Try this audiobook next time you have a road trip to soundtrack!

KC Jones delivers a chilling and mind-bending horror thriller with White Line Fever, a novel that grips readers from the first page and doesn’t let go. Set along a desolate county road, the story takes on an eerie, almost supernatural quality as those who travel its path begin experiencing terrifying hallucinations—visions of their deepest fears brought disturbingly to life.
From the moment the characters embark on their journey, the tension is relentless. Jones masterfully builds an atmosphere of dread, making the 15-mile stretch of road feel like an endless descent into madness. The novel reads like a psychological horror film, with reality twisting and shifting in unpredictable ways. The uncertainty of what is real versus illusion keeps the characters—and readers—on edge, turning every mile into a test of endurance.
The pacing is tight, the stakes are high, and the sense of unease lingers long after the final page. Jones crafts a uniquely unsettling experience, blending psychological horror with a creeping sense of cosmic dread. Fans of The Twilight Zone or Stephen King’s more mind-warping tales will find White Line Fever a thrilling, unforgettable ride.
Verdict: A nightmarish, pulse-pounding journey into fear and paranoia—KC Jones delivers an unrelenting horror experience that will keep readers up at night. Highly recommended for fans of surreal, psychological horror.

Well, what can I say?
A few years ago I read this author's previous book and I was not impressed by it, but because I usually am prone to giving authors a 'second chance' I requested Jones' new novel to see how it'd work with me. Sadly, again, this one also didn't work for me.
I liked the idea and the premise of the plot, but the execution failed to hold my attention.
I didn't care for the characters, the sci-fi elements were too weird for my taste, and the story dragged on and on and on. This book is, in my opinion, way too long for the story that it is.
The horror aspect of it didn't amuse or entertain me, either.
The audiobook narrator is a very decent one, so that's a good thing.
I'm not sure to whom I should recommend this book. Probably to readers who are into horror with sci-fi elements to it or to readers who have read a book by this author before abd truly enjoyed it.
Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, for allowing me to listen to a free audio copy of this novel.

3.5 stars. Much longer than it needed to be. This is the story of the Girls Trip from Hell. Or maybe to Hell? Since the ladies have to travel down the Devil's Driveway in order to get to their destination of a relaxation spa. They take this road as a shortcut and come to the very limits of their sanity. Something terrifying has been haunting Rt 951 for a long time. It will take all their strength and willpower to fight the demons on this road.

🎧 Book Review 🎧 Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman…and a haunted road. Trauma breeds its own kind of horrors that are indescribable; pair that with a dark and windy road with its own curse and readers are in for one dark and twisty ride. K.C. Jones writes a beautiful story, intertwining the complex human emotions of generational trauma and the lore of urban legends. The Devil’s Driveway may be a shortcut to the destination, but the journey is one of true horror that leaves everyone questioning what they are experiencing. White Line Fever builds at a perfect arc, narrated brilliantly by Kate Handford…I dare you to read this one alone in the car at night!

This was a SICK book!
Imagine your worst nightmare... then multiply that by about 100... that's this book!
Livia is having a hard time with her husband. She needs a break from reality, if just for a short time. Her BFF's decide to whisk her away for a quick weekend getaway.
As they leave, they see a shortcut on the GPS, and decide to take it... Not a wise decision... But, it is only 15 miles long....
(Hint... Don't EVER take the shortcuts in a horror book... !!!) 😮😵😮😵
As they are driving along, very strange things start to happen... but, EACH of them experiences a different account!!! It's hard to describe, but if you do read this, you will understand....
In any case, they end up basically just trying to stay ALIVE!!!
It kept me on the edge of my seat for the last several hours of the book!! 🫢😮
#WhiteLineFever by #KCJones and narrated nicely by #KateHandford.
4 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 5!

White Line Fever was a decent read, but it didn’t fully grab my attention. While the suspense kept me turning pages, I found some parts confusing and a bit disjointed, which made it hard to stay engaged. The story had its moments, but overall, it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. If you enjoy suspenseful books and don’t mind a bit of a challenge in following the narrative, it might be worth a read.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

This was an interesting story with a supernatural touch. It kept my attention and I was curious to see how this would play out. County Road 951 AKA the devil’s driveway, is one stretch of road you definitely want to skip driving on. After discovering some devastating news, Olivia and her childhood friends take a quick getaway to relax and decompress. They discover a short cut, and despite the signs that pretty much stated to stay away, they see how much time it will save them and decide to take a chance anyway. Very odd and strange occurrences begging to take place on the stretch that’s called “The Nighmare Mile.” There is also a group of young adults investigating the occurrences, and when these 2 groups collide, they try to determine exactly what is going on. Overall a decent read for those who are horror and supernatural fans. The narration was great in this audibook!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this advanced listening copy. All opinions are my own.

I generally enjoy books with dual timelines and a good mystery or thriller element, but this one just didn’t do it for me. It simultaneously felt overstuffed and underdeveloped. The story follows a group of friends, each with traumatic upbringings, as adults on a remote, closed-off road on their way to a getaway. While the inclusion of paranormal elements was a bit of a turn-off for me personally and having a hard time picturing descriptions of scenes, I pushed through. It just wasn’t my jam.

This creepy, mind-bending tale of horror forces the main character Livia and her friends to confront a mysterious and terrifyingly haunted stretch of highway and their real-life demons. I found myself invested from the first chapter and glued to the page as the suspenseful and scary story unfolded. Kate Handford did an amazing job narrating the audiobook. I highly recommend this book for fans of psychological horror.

I had such high hopes for this book; however, it just fell flat for me. The synopsis really grabbed my attention, but unfortunately, as I listened to this audiobook, I just felt like the execution of the story was just ok. To be honest, I think that any suspense there was, that it was increased with the narration which was great. However, the writing was not as suspenseful as I would expect from a book that is billed as a horror novel. I gave the audiobook 3 stars. If I had read this one as a physical book, it probably would have been a DNF.

4.75/5 stars
I Stay up until 2 AM listening to this audiobook while doing homework, and I was spooked! I don't scare easily when it comes to horror or thrillers, but this book had me constantly looking over my shoulder- it genuinely felt like someone was watching me. The eerie atmosphere, the unsetting tension, and the way the story slowly crept under my skin made it one of the scariest books I've read in a while.
The plot was gripping from the start, with a slow-building dread that kept me hooked. The writing created such vivid, eerie imagery that I could see everything playing out in my head like a horror movie.
There were moments when I had to pause just to take a breath because the suspense was that intense.
And the narration? phenomenal. The narrator didn't just read the story- they performed it. The voice acting, the pacing and the way they delivered every chilling moment made it feel even more immersive. I honestly think listening to this in audiobook format made it even scarier than if I had read it physically.
If you love horror that gets under your skin, keep an eye out for this one!
Release date: 3/17
Highly recommend the audiobook version!
Thank you! @netgalley and @macmillanaudio

CR951 in central Oregon has been deemed by the locals as the Devil's Driveway. Livia is embarking on a much needed getaway weekend. What started asca nice pleasant drive turns into a horrific race against all the ghosts of their pasts and those wretched souls trapped along the Devil's Driveway. A pulse pounding thrill ride, spooky and atmospheric horror at its best.
The narrator Kate Handford was great, multiple characters with superb ease.
4 stars

This was a DNF for me. I gave it multiple tries and just could not get into it. I was confused by the timeline as well.

I tried really hard to keep an open mind while listening to this audiobook, but the story failed to keep me engaged. I found my mind wandering on some parts and having to start back at the beginning of the chapter to stay on track. I loved the idea for this book, the characters, etc, just disappointed on the execution. Thank you Tor Publishing and NetGalley for the ALC.

White Line Fever by KC Jones’s multi-character non-linear timeline failed to capture my interest. Because the supernatural entity, The Harrower, feeds on the things that haunt people ; the story focuses on a lot of negative, scary and sometimes traumatic events in the characters pasts. For me, it was an unfortunately unpleasant and unsettling listening experience. I had no issues with the narrator, Kate Handford. At 50% in, I changed my listening speed to 2x in order to finish the audiobook faster. ALC was provided by Macmillan Audio via NetGalley. I received an advance listening copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

White Line Fever by KC Jones is a heart-pounding, nerve-wracking thriller that takes friendship, trauma, and terror to their absolute limits. When Livia and her three lifelong friends decide to take a shortcut through the notorious County Road 951—known locally as The Devil’s Driveway—what begins as an innocent joyride quickly spirals into a nightmare that tests not only their endurance but also their bond.
Set in the isolated Cascade foothills of Central Oregon, the road is infamous for its history of deadly accidents, and the women quickly discover that the rumors about The Devil's Driveway are terrifyingly true. As danger looms around every curve, their friendship is pushed to the brink, and they must fight not only for their survival but for their sanity as they race against time and an unimaginable horror.
Jones skillfully builds tension, transforming what starts as a simple road trip into a relentless ride of fear and psychological suspense. The writing is raw and visceral, pulling readers into the emotional and physical turmoil of the characters. With each twist and turn, the stakes grow higher, making this more than just a chase story—it’s a deep dive into trauma, trust, and the dark forces that can upend even the closest relationships.
White Line Fever is a gripping ride, perfect for fans of thrillers that combine psychological terror with heart-stopping action. Jones expertly navigates the complexities of friendship while weaving an intense, relentless narrative that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.
