It's been years since I read Tuck Everlasting, but I was thrilled to find that it also has a graphic novel adaptation.

The art was so beautiful, and the story was condensed yet descriptive enough that I want to re-read the novel. I loved the extras at the end - a page from Natalie Babbitt's early drafts, an interview between K. Woodman-Maynard, and the artistic process of creating a graphic novel.

This is a must add to every library, and a must read for fans of the original work.

Thank you, Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for the opportunity to read this ARC!

“When Winnie closed the gate on her oldest fears as she had closed the gate of her own fenced yard, she discovered the wings she’d always wished she had.”

“Winnie saw again the wide world spread before her shimmering with light and possibility. But the possibilities were different now. They did not point to what might happen to her…but to what she herself might keep from happening.”

I first read Tuck Everlasting in 1997 as a 7th grader. The story immediately drew me in and I fell in love. I have to admit that I am always drawn into a story with a little magic and a wood where the story takes place. Sweet little innocent Winnie is such a precious main character and I also love the Tuck family. The idea of living forever is both enchanting and scary. I’ve enjoyed several graphic novel versions of my favorite classic novels over the years and this one is exceptionally well-done. The illustrations are beautiful and the story remains the same captivating tale, true to the original. If you’ve never read Tuck Everlasting before, do yourself a favor and introduce yourself to it! You won’t be disappointed!

Thank you to NetGalley, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for this advanced copy! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillian Children’s Publishing Group for the opportunity to read Tuck Everlasting: A Graphic Novel by Natalie Babbitt and illustrated by K. Woodman - Maynard.

Winnie Foster is very bit a young child of 11 years old. She is restricted to her home and yard. Unfortunately, Winnie feels lonely and lost and looking for an adventure. She ends up running into an older teen, named Jesse Tuck. Jesse introduces Winnie to his family and they share their life stories with her.

The story follows Winnie’s journey to personal growth and understanding life.

The images are beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Great emotions depict through the images.

I really really adored this graphic novel and the new life it breathed into a classic story.

The tale of the Tuck family is one that has stuck with tons of readers for decades. There are so many things that stick out: the family's desire for life even though they're stuck living, the tragedy of their loved ones casting them aside, Winnie's struggle against her own familial ties, the questions asked regarding a life's value, etc. And while these are all things readers consider long after the final page is read and the cover is closed, it develops a whole new meaning when paired with the art of this graphic novel.

The art in this adaptation is not hyper realistic, but it does a great job of giving the characters personality and depth. It's easy to see Jesse's almost disastrous childlikeness. You can tell by the color schemes when the scene is truly carefree or when it's intense. Each Tuck family member has their own silhouette page, and the designs, while very different, perfectly portray their differences and even their varying view of life. This also ties into Winnie's silhouette at the end.

I thought the use of visual art really helped to establish the highs and lows of the story, and it made it even easier to care for the characters. It was a quick read, and even in that small time reconnecting with this story, I was near tears by the epilogue. Tuck Everlasting is such an incredible book, and forming it into a graphic novel - especially one of such high quality - is going to make it so much more accessible to younger audiences. I can't wait for young readers to have this book in their hands.

This graphic novel adaptation of the Tuck Everlasting story is a beautifully reimagined version of the beloved childhood classic. From my recollection, all the main moments of the story were appropriately captured in this adaption while taking out some of the details making this a shorter and enticing introduction for new readers and a nostalgic revisit for longtime fans. .

The stunning watercolor artwork breathes new life into the story, with vibrant illustrations that capture the essence of the original tale. Notably, the integration of text into the scenery adds a poetic dimension, enhancing the narrative's immersive quality. The inclusion of charming chapter title pages featuring animals is a gorgeous and whimsical touch.

I would highly recommend this for all readers!

I loved this book when I first read it as a kid. It was one of my favorite books I read and I remember having so much fun discussing it in class. The movie was also a fave.

I'm so happy to have this bit of nostalgia available to me. I love the illustrations and the use of watercolors. this was perfect.

5/5 stars -- it would appear that i need to reread tuck everlasting because boy did ya girl cry. the graphic novel adaptation did such a beautiful job of conveying natalie babbitt's gorgeous prose and the themes and messaging of the story. i'm obsessed with the silhouette pages (iykyk) and i love how the color palettes were so integral to the setting/time of each panel. it's hard to trim down a story to suit such a visual medium but, in my opinion, it was done perfectly. finally, i loved the end interview between the artist and lucy babbitt (natalie's daughter). not only did it reinforce the beautiful themes of tuck, but it also pointed out a small detail in the illustrations that i had missed which (surprise!) made me cry even more.

When I was in 5th Grade, my class read “Tuck Everlasting,” and I absolutely loved it. And after reading this new graphic novel adaptation of the book, my love for the book has grown even more. K. Woodman-Maynard’s gorgeous watercolor illustrations bring this book to life, and I absolutely loved it. This is my favorite graphic novel adaptation of any book that I have read, and I would recommend it to everyone who read and loved the original book, along with kids and teens from 4th to 9th Grade. This book is amazing, and I hope it is shared with kids for generations to come.

3.5 Stars.

I first watched Tuck Everlasting as a young child, and I still remember being completely captivated by its aesthetic and the magical concept behind the story. Years later, I discovered that it was actually based on a book—and as a lifelong bookworm, I had to pick it up immediately. The novel left a lasting impact on me, just as the movie had.

Recently, I had the opportunity to be an early reader of the graphic novel adaptation based on the book. Revisiting the story felt deeply nostalgic, and I loved experiencing it in a new format. The pacing was fast, and the artwork was beautifully drawn, bringing the world of Tuck Everlasting to life in a fresh, visual way.

However, my only issue was with the dialogue—or rather, the lack of it. Many speech bubbles were left blank, and I wasn’t sure if this was intentional. I even flipped through to the end of the graphic novel to see if there was any note or explanation, but found nothing that clarified this choice.

Despite that one hiccup, I genuinely enjoyed seeing Tuck Everlasting reimagined as a graphic novel. It’s always a special experience to revisit a beloved story in a new form.

As someone who read this book when she was a child being able to read the graphic novel as an adult is so refreshing! This graphic novel is so beautiful, the artwork is stunning and everything flows together well. I have always loved this story growing up and I think it tells a wonderful tale about the circle of life. As I kid I felt like I would always be upset about Winnie’s decision but now as an adult I makes more sense.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC! This was a wonderful experience!

The basic story of Tuck Everlasting, is that a family stumbles on a spring that gives them immortality, by drinking from it. But it also, like when you change into a vampire, fixes them in time, so that they are all the same age as they were when the drank the spring water.

Mostly, they keep to themselves, until Winnie, a 10 year old who lives by the spring, stumbles across the family, and finds out their secret. So the family kidnaps her while they figure out what to do.

The graphic novel is a quick read, and has lovely pictures. Some bits have the words on top of the images, such as when the narrator is explaining about the wheel of time, and we see it in the rays of the sun.
I enjoyed revisiting this story, in graphic novel form. I thought ti worked quite well.

The novel, Tuck Everlasting, came out 50 years ago, this year. In celebration of this, K. Woodman-Maynard to has envisioned how it would be as a graphic novel. At the end of the book, in the notes, she explained how she moved some events around, and truncated the beginning, because it didn’t work well to have it, and would slow the story down.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review. This book will be published on the 2nd of September 2025.

The writing sometimes in the books was difficult to read, as someone who is dyslexic. It may not bother you, but I kept having to the turn my phone around to read some of the writing. That was my only compliant. This is so nice, the art style was nice to see, I was worried it would be childish but it is nicely for all ages. They kept a good amount of the writing in the book and did not have to cut a lot out with having it interfere with the importance of the storyline. My kids will love to read this, I am glad to see more selections in the graphic novels especially those with difficulties reading, dyslexia, or lower attention span. This will be a hit.

“life’s got to be lived, no matter how long or short. you got to take what comes. we just go along, like everybody else, one day at a time” 💔

all of the stars — i can remember reading the original novel back in the third or fourth grade during independent reading time, and it had such a huge impact on me back then. the emotions held up over a decade later.

the art in this graphic novel was absolutely stunning — i adored the water colors, and the color palette the artist chose, and it made reliving this story all the more special.

I’ve been a fan of this story for a long time, so when I saw there was a graphic novel of it coming out, I knew I had to request it.
Tuck Everlasting makes for such a great graphic novel, and I think this one is probably my favorite middle grade graphic novel I’ve ever read.
The way this was illustrated was so beautiful, and I loved how some panels integrated the words with the artwork rather than white text bubbles every time text was displayed.
It’s funny, just now at 31 am I practical enough to finally understood why Winnie doesn’t drink the water. I vividly remember being 9 years old reading the original book for the first time, borderline mad at Winnie for not wanting to be with Jesse and the Tucks forever.
This was a beautiful portrayal of a classic and beloved story that I think will find a whole new generation of fans due to this graphic novel.

There’s something quietly magical about this graphic novel adaptation of Tuck Everlasting. As someone who’s loved the original for its timeless reflection on life, death, and the bitter-sweetness in between, I found this version to be more than just a retelling—it’s a visual poem.

The illustrations are breathtaking. Every panel feels like a watercolor dream, evoking that hazy, golden stillness of a summer you once had—or wish you did. The way the text is sometimes woven into the art itself feels like the story is not just being told, but lived. The emotional weight of Winnie’s journey, the mystery of the Tucks, and the ache of time standing still—all of it comes through with a kind of softness that invites you in and gently holds you there.

What I found especially moving was how the artwork preserves the contemplative tone of Natalie Babbitt’s original writing, while also adding new dimensions. Small visual choices—like the way the landscape stretches, or how the sky shifts color—mirror the emotional landscape of the characters. It deepens the experience in a way that feels fresh and reverent at once.

Whether you're already in love with Tuck Everlasting, or discovering it for the first time, this graphic novel is a gift. A quiet, golden, unforgettable one.

This is a beautiful version of Tuck Everlasting, it's stunning visually and brings the original story to life in a wonderful way. The art in this story is captivating, and it captures the tone of each different part of the story.

The graphics in this novel add dimension to an already loved story. I have to say one of my favorite parts about the art was the words written into the art, it made the story feel like it was coming alive. I especially loved the interview between the artist and the author's daughter at the end. It was touching to read and made the project even more special.

If you love seeing your favorite stories come to life I would recommend you pick this up! Thank you to the publisher for providing an advanced readers copy via Netgalley in Exchange for an honest review.

I have never felt like "I have ARRIVED" as an ARC reader quite as much as getting approved to read the graphic novel adaptation of Tuck Everlasting. So, deep thanks for Macmillian and NetGalley for the opportunity to read it.

For most of my childhood, Tuck Everlasting was my favorite book. I fell in love with the whimsy of the story and spent many days wishing I could enter into this world.

I was nervous to read the graphic novel because I wanted it to do justice to the book, which I haven't read in many years, but still carry a deep affection for.

When this releases, I am buying three copies: one for me, one for my daughter (as she is the age I first read the original), and one because I may need to frame some of the absolutely STUNNING artwork, done in watercolor, through out this new interpretation.

I also loved that the end includes a "behind the scenes" at the making of this absolutely beautiful homage to Natalie Babbit's classic.

I wanted to revisit a beloved childhood story when I saw this graphic novel. I was stunned from the beginning because I forgot how beautiful the writing is. This is a short and simple but very powerful story that makes you think about life in a totally different way. The illustrations are gorgeous. I can't wait until this is published because I know someone who's going to love this just as much as I do.
