I confess I never read Tuck Everlasting when I was younger. And I never read it when I grew up either. And I’ve also never seen the movie. I always wanted to read it because I’d heard how good it was, how it was a modern classic, but somehow other books always took precedence. So when I saw a graphic novel adaptation was available, I thought that would be a great introduction to the story.

I loved this graphic novel. I genuinely didn’t know how this story went before reading this book, but it was great. The ending was excellent too, and not one I feel like would be done in modern literature.

The artwork was also very nice. It has a soft, delicate look to it that worked very well for this story.

Overall, this was a very delightful book with wonderful illustrations. Reading this graphic novel made me want to add this book to my physical collection and also read the original novel.

This beautifully illustrated graphic novel immediately caught my eye with its unique, watercolor-like style. The warm, inviting color palette creates such a cozy atmosphere. I especially loved how the narrator's words were cleverly woven into the scenery itself, it was both stunning and immersive. The visuals and storytelling flow together perfectly. If you love the original novel there’s no doubt you’ll love this graphic novel adaptation.

To be honest, I went into this adaptation feeling skeptical. I loved this book when I was younger. I still remember my sixth grade language arts teacher reading it to our class. She captured Winnie’s spunk and Mae’s grounded, loving strength in a way that made me fall in love with the story. I cried at the ending, and I think it offered one of my first nuanced perspectives on death. As one can imagine, my eleven year old self was absolutely livid with the movie adaptation.

I was back and forth on requesting an ARC of this from NetGalley. I’m so glad I did, though. K. Woodman-Maynard’s adaptation is a love letter to the original novel, crafted with the upmost respect and deep understanding of its purpose and characters. The art itself is beautiful- it’s a blend of digital sketching/inking and actual watercolors that perfectly suits the time period it’s set in (and the timelessness of the story itself). There are some gorgeous visual motifs and visual metaphors that carry over from the novel that my ELA teacher brain immediately imagines using for a close reading while discussing the figurative language.

I would still hope one reads this in conjunction with rather than in lieu of the original novel, but it is a faithful and beautiful adaptation. I think new readers to the story will love the comparisons between what they pictured and how it’s shown. Meanwhile, readers like me should be prepared for a nostalgic punch in the gut. I didn’t expect to still cry at the ending (it’s been so long since I read it, but I read it so many times when I was younger), but I was wrong. There’s also a lovely interview at the end with Lucy Babbit (Natalie Babbit’s daughter) that also made me cry (and made me google Babbit’s headstone and cry again). I think a class reading the novel together would also have a lovely discussion based around that interview.

This was a beautiful graphic novel adaptation crafted with so much love and reverence for the original novel, and I will absolutely be adding it to my classroom library. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

This was such a beautiful adaptation of such a timeless story. The illustrations were lovely and I particularly liked the visualization of Winnie’s fears. I was a little nervous about how so much narrative could be condensed into a graphic novel, but it stayed so true to the original story.

Beautiful! This was a condensed version of the original but still very faithful to the story and tone. The watercolor illustrations were gorgeous, and the conversation between the author and Natalie Babbitt’s daughter at the end was a really nice addition.

The graphic novel version of Tuck Everlasting is beautiful because it both captures what makes Natalie Babbitt’s original novel special and provides its own unique additions to the story. The beautiful watercolor artwork depicts the themes of life, death, and growing up in the gorgeous reds and yellow tones of summer. K. Woodman-Maynard’s version reminded me of why I fell in love with this story when I read it at Winnie’s age, and I am thrilled to see it adapted into a graphic novel, so it will reach a new generation of readers in a format they will appreciate.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I read the original Tuck Everlasting for the first time in 5th grade along with my class. I remember it having a strong impact on me even then, and still recall specific moments and discussions about the book quite vividly. It's one of my first memories of really diving into media literacy and understanding the meaning behind little intricacies in books.

This graphic novel is a solid adaptation of the original novel. It chapters the story and characters in this child like art style with beautiful imagery. I've never seen any adaptions of the book before now, so seeing the man in the yellow suit was especially nostalgic to me. I always thought he was so interesting in the novel, especially considering we never even learn his name and he is just known by what he wears.

I was hoping that I miss remembered the awkward crush that seventeen year old Jesse had on eleven year old Winnie but... alas, it is still here, and definitely did not age well. But ignoring this, the story is full of childlike wonder and magic that is sure to keep anyone captivated.

This adaptation of Tuck Everlasting is just as beautiful as the original.

The lovely watercolor and use of narration along the landscape were a brilliant addition to the first story. The plot made sense, the characters felt real, and the pacing was perfect. Obviously, Woodman had amazing source material to work off of, but plenty of other adaptations have failed.

This is worth a read, even if you have not read the original material.

Wow. This might just be the most beautiful graphic novel I’ve ever read. The illustrations are lush, vibrant, and absolutely full of life—I caught myself lingering on nearly every page, soaking in the colors and atmosphere.

It’s been years since I first saw the movie (my only experience with this story until now), and reading this graphic novel felt like discovering it all over again. The timeless themes of life, choice, and immortality hit just as deeply, with visuals that elevate every moment.

Whether you’re new to Tuck Everlasting or returning to it in a new form, this adaptation is an absolute treasure.

The graphic novel adaptation of Tuck Everlasting brings Natalie Babbitt’s classic to life with stunning illustrations and a faithful retelling. The story of Winnie Foster and the immortal Tuck family remains as moving and thought-provoking as ever, exploring deep questions about life, death, and the value of time.

What sets this version apart is the breathtaking artwork. Each panel is rich with emotion and detail, capturing the magic of the forest, the stillness of time, and the quiet sorrow of immortality. The illustrations beautifully mirror Winnie’s inner struggle, enhancing the emotional depth of the story.

This graphic novel is beautiful. If you’ve read the original Tuck Everlasting or watched the movie, this version brings the story to life in a totally new way. The watercolor art is dreamy and fits the vibe perfectly—soft, a little mysterious, and full of emotion.

The story still hits hard: the whole “what if you could live forever?” thing really makes you think, and Winnie’s journey feels just as meaningful in this version. It’s gentle, deep, and kind of magical without needing any flashy action. Whether you're revisiting a childhood favorite or discovering it for the first time, this is such a cozy, thoughtful read. Great for all ages!

Following the popular trend of turning children's classics (cult and literary) into graphic novels, K. Woodman-Maynard transforms Natalie Babbit's "Tuck Everlasting" into a slim 261 page adaptation of Winnie and the immortal family. Many of these graphic novels do a wonderful job of retelling the story through illustrations, bringing in readers who might otherwise be intimidated by the original books (Gareth Hind's the Odyssey), or welcome a chance to update the stories into more contemporary settings (Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley Twins), but Woodman-Maynard's book is masterclass of maintaining the essence of the book with such fidelity that it still feels like the novel in many ways, even though it is abridged.

Some of the credit is Woodman-Maynard making sure to showcase the narration just as much of the dialogue, Significant sentences are configured into the landscape, embedding the words into the plot as they wind across the sky and hide among leaves. She does not simply export the major story beats, but captures the feeling of Winnie leaving her front yard and going out into the woods with warm monochrome watercolors and Babbitt's own words. The tension with the man in the yellow suit is present, but restrained through unease instead of visceral images that would scare children. Emphasizing that his true threat is just how mundane he is in his selfishness and cruelty.

Illustration wise, the character designs are very child friendly without losing that classic otherworldly feeling of bygone days. Woodman-Maynard makes use of the backgrounds to divide her panels and create tensions where there is one, although most of the story is really a rumination about what living truly means. In particular, the side profile spreads of each Tuck family member as they explain their viewpoint of (im)mortality is very poignant and does a great job of showing kids how they are juxtaposed.

It is not an exact beat for beat story, and I understand why some of the smaller moments between Jessie and Winnie or Winnie and Mrs Tuck had to be excised to make the story work as it does, the relationships do carry over for the most part. If anything, I would hope reading this graphic novel would make a child very interested in reading the original, as it is such a loving homage to Babbitt's world.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing for a chance to read Tuck Everlasting Graphic Novel. This story will forever hold a place in my heart. The movie was first introduced to me in elementary school when I was 10 years old and it changed me forever!! Never ever will I forget this amazing story. This graphic novel added a cute and fresh look on the tragic story of the Tuck family. Yes it’s very sad but also exciting and inspiring. Winnie always followed her heart and passion to protect the Tuck family and the forest. And the yearning Jesse had for her was so cute! They both fell hard for each other but how Jesse tried protecting her was even more cute cause it was more than not having her live the kind of life him and his family live. BUT THE ENDING. I will forever be sad for Jesse. Overall great story, love the art style, great way to introduce kids to this amazing story without them being bored!

I’ve read Tuck Everlasting so many times, but this graphic novel brought the story to life in a whole new way. The artwork is absolutely compelling. It really deepened my connection to the characters and the emotions throughout. Even though I knew the story, my heart was still torn out by the end. This was a beautiful, fresh experience of a classic tale that I’d highly recommend to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Thank you NetGalley & the publishers for sending me an ARC of this amazing book. 💕

This was a childhood favorite when it came to books so of course I had to ask for the graphic novel. As someone who does not read the most amount of graphics, this one was one of my all time favorites. I loved the way the text was often written into the images but the organization was still clear. I also loved the colors of the story, & the layout of when each family member shared their opinion on the water with Winnie. I will be getting a physical copy for home and my classroom. Will read again. 💕

I haven't read the original or watched the movie adaptation so I didn't have a lot to compare it to but I enjoyed this graphic novel! I liked the art style as, to me, it fit with the era it was set in, as well as the colors used. I think this is a great way to get more people to read/watch Tuck Everlasting as it drew me in to wanting to do so!
