Enjoyable action thriller with a fun and exciting plot. I did find myself skimming towards the end because my attention was beginning to wane. The ending was a bit predictable.

The way the book started out I wasn't sure how the storyline would survive until the end of the book. Nonetheless, Stevens did a masterful job building in numerous well times twists that kept the story fresh and moving at a nice pace. American Express Travels Cheques! I had forgotten all about them and the process for keeping them safe. Nice historical fact that fit seamlessly into the primary storyline.
I had only one problem with the book and it wasn't anything Stevens could have prevented. In 1976 I was working in the Middle East and have no memories of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal ... or the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck as well .There was no internet and no television access, so they have no reality in my mind. The only memory I have of either Olympics was seeing the ski jump in Innsbruck in the Spring of 1977.. That was the Olympics that was scheduled to occur in Colorado, my home state, but Colorado backed out in 1972 due to ecological pressures. That is a story for another time.

Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC of The Hitchhikers. Chevy Stevens is one of my favorite thriller writers, and this did not disappoint. I loved it. Fast paced and hooked me from the opening pages. I really enjoyed the journey of Tom and Alice. While I sorta knew how it would end, it was an exciting ride. Buckle up - this one is GREAT!

The hitchhikers is set in the 1970s. We’re following a married couple Tom and Alice as they travel in their RV from Seattle to Canada to watch the Olympic games. Alice and Tom have been going through some tough times in their marriage and both are hoping that this trip helps. Early on in the trip Tom and Alice cross paths with a hippie couple named Blue and Ocean, Tom invites them to share their campsite and have dinner, their stay turns longer and we soon realize that Ocean and Blue are not who they seem to be.
This book was SO fast paced, I could not put it down. The characters were so well developed, I was so invested on how this would end. 5⭐️
Thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy.

Let me first say I'm a fan of Chevy Stevens but this one just wasn't one of my favorites. I just found it hard to get into and kept thinking that Alice could have done something sooner to get away from then. I know I know then there would be no book but I just kept hating Simon and then Jenny for going along with him. It was kind of repetitive of what was happening until the end. I did however really like how it ended and it was exactly what I was hoping for!
Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the chance to read!

I have been waiting for a new Chevy Stevens book! I could not put it down! Alice and Tom are on a camping adventure with their new RV. They encounter two hitchhikers that seem innocent and unsuspecting. However, Alice learns that their new guests are not who they appear to be and are very dangerous. The book takes off with twists and turns of how to survive.

It’s 1976 and Alice and Tom are traveling in their RV through Canada to get to the Olympics. They have had some marital problems and see this trip as a way to reconnect with each other. While stopping at a campground one night, they meet Blue and Ocean who are hitchhiking. They are so young to be on the road by themselves, the couple take pity on them and give them food and a place to stay for the night. The couple decide to give them a ride to the next city. While they are driving they stop at a store. Alice goes in and gets a newspaper and finds Blue and Ocean are wanted for murder and their real names are Jenny and Simon.
What I loved about this book was that you really cared about the characters. I was WORRIED about Alice and Tom! I had to keep reading to know if they were going to be ok or not. There were parts of the book that were slow but those parts just added to the suspense of what was going to happen next. Overall, this was a great read! Thank you NetGalley!

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reader copy! I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

I love Chevy Stevens and I’ve been waiting so long for her to write another book. Unfortunately for me this one was a bit of a let down. I found the pacing very slow and the book very predictable from beginning to end.

The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens. A fast paced, suspenseful read. Many unpredictable twists and turns and well developed characters especially Alice and Simon. More than a satisfying and heartfelt ending. This story is an excellent reason why there are “Do Not Pickup Hitchhikers” signs along the highway and byways.
Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

This was a wild ride! It was pretty intense and had me wanting to see what happened next. I loved the setting and everything was explained in great detail. I loved the way it ended however I had a feeling that was the direction it was going. So good! This is my second book from Chevy Stevens and I can’t wait to read more!

~3.75 ⭐️
This is a bit of a tough one to rate. The beginning totally caught my attention, and I really enjoyed the ending. The middle is where most of my critiques lie. Was it a pacing issue? Was the book just a little bit longer than it needed to be? I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but I'm still glad I stuck with it...

Thank you NetGalley for a digital copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
The Hitchhikers is set in 1975, when hitchhiking was rampant. Tom and Alice are going to the Olympics, traveling by RV. They see a young couple and decide to give them a ride. But Alice soon realizes, they lied. Their names aren't really Blue and Ocean and they are on the run from the heinous crime of murdering "Ocean's" family. Alice and Tom are quickly taken as hostages and they try everything they can to escape,
This was a very well written story and I highly recommend.

I was so excited to get to read this book early ever since I read "Still Missing" nearly ten years ago and loved it. Her books were one of the first thrillers I ever read and helped get me into the genre!
Unfortunately, this book was a bit of a letdown and I agree with a lot of the other reviews in that the book was frustrating to get through. I liked the beginning and the ending but you really just want to shake some of the characters for their lack of inaction which makes a big portion of the book drag. This got to the point where everything felt a bit contrived just to serve the plot. There were easily endless ways for the characters to get themselves out of situation but instead make half hearted attempts that shockingly go nowhere. I don't think the ending saved the book, but it did a good job bringing everything together and helping the reader connect more with the characters.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens is a chilling and suspenseful thriller that keeps you hooked from the first page. Stevens masterfully builds tension as she weaves a dark tale of survival, secrets, and trust on the open road. It’s a gripping, fast-paced read with strong characters and unexpected twists.

I received an advance copy of this book from Net Galley via St. Martins Press. I am fan of Chevy Steven’s novels. This one was not my first and won’t be my last. The story takes place in the 70s so a bit historical fiction and a lot of suspense. A husband and wife who are taking a vacation road trip in their RV are taken hostage by a young couple on the run.
I don’t want to give anything away because there are good plot twists in this book. Initially the vacationers are friendly to the young couple. But when the young couple realizes the wife knows they are on the run, and why, the suspense kicks up. The tension builds as the young couple now have the vacationers and their RV on the run. It seems like there is no way this can end well. I will only say that I loved the

Tom and Alice a nice middle aged couple from the USA decide to take a road trip across Canada in their brand new RV when trouble ensues.
This is an intense story of what can go wrong when you try to help strangers and that things are not always as they seem. I liked the fast pace and character development in this book and couldn't wait to finish it! I will be reading more books by Chevy Stevens in my future!

The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens, begins in July 1976 with Tom and Alice starting a road trip in their RV to the Summer Olympics in Montreal. They meet and take in a young hitchhiking couple (Simon and Jenny)not knowing that they are on the run from killing the girl’s’ parents. Throughout the novel as Tom and Alice try to escape the couple, we learn more about what drove Jenny and Simon to commit their crimes as well as more about Tom and Alice’s relationship. At the end of the ordeal everyone is changed and some have experienced redemption. I really enjoyed the pace of this thriller while also growing to care about the characters. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced reader copy!

I have read every novel by Chevy Stevens! I am thrilled that I got to read The Hitchhikers months before publication. As a child of the 1970's, I was drawn into the story immediately. I love a book that takes place in the era of orange and brown shag carpeting because it makes me nostalgic. The premise is outstanding with Alice and Tom in their new RV heading for a road trip into Canada to get to the summer Olympics. Living in 2025, it is hard to imagine the days of paper road maps, no cellphones, nor any emergency alerts. However, this lack of technology in 1976 is what makes the story possible. Simon and Jenny are on the run after Jenny's parents were murdered. Alice and Tom happen upon the teenagers at a campground and they offer them a ride. They end up together for a day or two before Alice learns what the teenagers have done. By then it is too late, and Alice and Tom become their captives.
Alice was an amazing, strong character, Her grit and determination was admirable and is typical of the female leads in Chevy Stevens' novels. I don't want to ruin the book, but I loved the big plot twist and the tidy, serendipituous ending. I rated this one four stars because I thought it had a slower start that may cause some readers to abandon it.

Chevy Stevens has done it again with The Hitchhikers, an absolutely riveting thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. Her ability to create raw, emotionally driven characters while weaving in suspense is unmatched, and this book is a perfect example of why I love her work. The tension is palpable, the pacing relentless, and the twists land with real impact. Stevens never disappoints, and The Hitchhikers might just be one of her best yet.
