Chevy Stevens is an auto-buy author for me. Ive been reading her books for a long time. I was not disappointed by The Hitchhikers at all. I liked the way the story was shared between Alice and Jenny.

The beginning of this book really had me hooked, i was so intrigued. Then towards the middle and end it felt like i'd read a lot but yet nothing had really happened. I did enjoy it though and overall it was a good read.

Oh Chevy Stevens, what has happened? I have read several books by Stevens, and I have enjoyed them all. I was SO SO thrilled to see her new release and be approved. I dove into this one with high expectations. I am very sad to say that I was already disappointed by the 15% mark. This book did not feel like I was reading a Chevy Stevens book. The only thing I enjoyed about it was the era, the 70's. The descriptions of that decade were very well done from the clothing, camper, current events, food, etc. The characters and plot were just annoying, unrealistic and repetitive. I wanted to punch Alice and Tom. They were so stupid. "Ocean and Blue" got on my nerves as well immediately. I wanted to love this and tried hard to do so, but I just couldn't. I would not recommend this book at all.

I loved this thriller! Definitely 4 stars for me, I couldn't put it down. The book was fast paced throughout the entire book which I love. The book begins with a couple from Seattle taking a vacation to the Olympics in 1976 in Canada and I actually really enjoyed that it took place in 1976. So many books are focused on the now with all the electronics available, cell phones and tracking, etc but this one had maps, landlines and pay phones which was refreshing for a change of pace in a thriller. I've only read one Chevy Stevens book prior to this one and that was Still Missing which I loved and now this one is another book of hers that I love. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author.

Chevy Stevens is a favorite author of mine. I've been anticipating her new book for years! This was another good read.
The characters made me frustrated, I honestly wasn't rooting for any of them. The suspense from each new tense situation kept me glued to this book.
Some of the scenarios were a little farfetched but if you can get past that, you will enjoy it!

Sadly disturbing story about a young couples encounter with a pair of hitchhikers. Tom and Alice offer help to a couple they meet at a campground who unbeknownst to them are on the run from law enforcement. Fast paced, full of twists, not to be missed.

This one is a wild ride! Some of the characters were making me a little mad (wanted to jump in the story and choke em) but they were very easy to get to know fast in the beginning of the book. Super fast read!

I received this as an ARC and my review is my honest opinion.
Still Missing is the first I read from this author and it wowed me. I’ve since read a couple that were okay and was excited to try this when I saw it.
It just fell flat for me.
The journey wasn’t thrilling or psychological. The antagonist was honestly just a horrible person out for blood. The partner and story made me sad for what she had endured, but the emotional connection there still wasn’t thrilling.
I like a good dual POV, and that part of this was fine.
I just struggled to get through this one and had to make myself finish it because I don’t like DNFing ARC’s. This needed a solid psychological twist. The ending I could see a mile away.

I knew I would like this book because I've liked everything I've read by Chevy Stevens. Even so, I am usually pretty good with only reading at night, but this book had me hooked almost immediately, and I finally put it down LATE at night.... but then I spent the next day reading in bed until I finished it. It was obvious that there was something really wrong about the hitchhikers from the beginning, and it didn't take long before the good people who had picked them up realized they had made a BIG mistake. I found myself alternating between feeling sorry for "Ocean" and worrying about her, and I love how we heard little bits and pieces all along about what made her who she was today. The pace of the book was great - not too fast, not to slow, and always tense and believable. The characters were well defined. I liked it enough that I will probably read it again to feel the suspense again and see if I missed anything the first time around.

This is an author I love to read. I was excited to get this book and started reading it immediately. The book kept my attention with twists and turns. Although I found some of the story unbelievable if it happened to me, it was a great story and I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC! Solid 4 star read. Get ready for a thrill ride through Canada. Very descriptive on the journey through Canada. The author keeps the reader enthralled with her story telling. Great character development not one dimensional. And the twists that I did not see coming.
Highly recommend

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. While I thought there were some slow parts towards the middle that drug on a little, this was a great suspenseful adventure the author took us on. There are some trigger warnings (child loss and child abuse) I think should be included. The author made me feel for the characters who aren’t necessarily likable, and her writing really played like a movie in my mind. I would definitely read more by this author.

I am a huge fan of Chevy Stevens and I’m so grateful I was able to get an ARC of this book. Tom and Alice take an RV trip to watch the Olympics. Along the way they meet a young couple and they decide to give them a ride. After a few days with the hitchhikers they realize they are wanted for murder and their vacation turns into a nightmare. I couldn’t put this book down! I had to find out the fate of Alice and Tom. Great story I really enjoyed it!

This was dark, twisted, and if you’re familiar with Chevy stevens writing, filled with heart pounding thrill. I’m not a stranger to Stevens writing. I’ve loved her work for many years now. Never let you go and Dark roads are two of my favourite stevens books. From the treacherous and despicable actions from the characters, to the unlikeable nature of said characters and the twists and turns I rarely see coming, Chevy has some of the best thriller work out there. So I knew I’d love them as soon as I picked it up. This is set in the 1970’s, not much communication out there, in an RV on a remote Canadian highway. Our main characters are eager to mend what is quickly becoming a broken marriage. What could possibly go wrong…until you stumble upon a pair of hitchhikers. Recipe for disaster. Some of my favourite movies and tv shows of all time have the best and most memorable plot lines with hitchhikers. This was really no different. It was like watching a movie only I’m reading the words on the screen of my kindle. This was fast paced and creepy to read but I loved it and cannot wait to get a copy of my own. Once again, I highly recommend another thrilling read from Miss Stevens. I hope to read more from her again soon!

I read this book in one afternoon! I really enjoyed it. So exciting and tragic and suspenseful! Good ending!

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC of 'The Hitchhikers' by Chevy Stevens.
Decent but overlong thriller along the lines of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate.
In an unspoken effort to try to overcome a tragedy in their lives, a salt-of-the-earth American, mid-30s couple embark on a summer-long RV odyssey across Canada, intending it to culminate with their attending the 1976 Montreal Olympics. They're barely across the border when the husband's open generosity (against the suspicions of his wife) is rewarded by being glommed onto by a pair of young people on the run from a violent crime.
What transpires is a seemingly endless narrative where they trek up and down British Columbia and into Alberta with the criminal couple (who, remarkably and via a convoluted backstory, both lack basic skills like cooking and driving) trying to outrun their crime(s) while committing new and ever more violent and deadly ones as they go.
There's a little bit of playing with stereotypes and assumptions and who's the real baddie in the story but, honestly, you could see it coming from the far end of the Trans-Canada Highway.
It's well done - if a little slow-paced and just too long and repetitive - but I'm afraid the whole thing somewhat fell apart for me near the end when the character Alice did something daft and totally out of context with her feelings and behavior throughout the previous bulk of the book.
I can see this making a decent streaming service thriller film.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this early! Absolutely gripping and edge of your seat type of thriller! My favorite type of book. 5/5 would recommend

Sometimes I feel like a jerk telling people to push through a book and wait until the end before forming their final thoughts. BUT…I’m going to say it anyway. This was one of those books where I found myself almost frustrated with the situation the whole way through, but the ending pulled it together enough that I ended up liking the book overall. I’m not bold enough to say the ending completely saved it, but it definitely helped put things into perspective. I also appreciated that there were hints sprinkled throughout, so the ending didn’t feel like a total 180.
This one leans more thriller than mystery, with a dash of angst—not too much, but just enough to keep me invested in seeing how it would all unfold. There were definitely moments where I thought, “Okay, these characters could have handled this better,” but I also get that it’s easier to judge from the outside looking in.
It’s my first time reading this author, so I can’t say how it compares to her usual style. That said, I still found it enjoyable even if I got bored here and there. This isn’t my typical kind of read, but I’m glad I gave it a chance. I might be a little conflicted on my feelings overall, but I feel good about my rating especially since the ending had me shedding a few tears!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Alice and her husband Tom needed to get away. Healing from a traumatic situation in their life, Tom buys an RV in hopes of turning their lives around. Being happier and seeing the country. While getting to a campsite they meet a young couple, Ocean and Blue. Alice befriends Ocean, a young pregnant woman, and takes her under her wing. One day Alice finds information that Ocean and Blue aren't Ocean and Blue but Jenny and Simon, a couple wanted for the murders of her mom and her stepdad. When Alice slips and uses Ocean's real name, Jenny, things change. Simon essentially holds Tom and Alice hostage, which starts a series of events that lead to turmoil for many people. Will they escape? Will the couple get caught? At the end of the story, a surprise, may just help everyone out in the long run.
This story started off a bit slow but it had an amazing finish. Told by the four many characters you see background that influences the character's present situation, almost to the point where instead of disliking Jenny and Simon, you have empathy for them. I loved the ending and it really closed out the story perfectly! Would definitely recommend! 4.5 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley, Chevy Stevens, and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to review this ARC!

Another incredible book by Chevy Stevens!! This book had me staying up until 2am saying “just one more chapter!”
This book was perfectly written and explored so many emotions.
