So excited to have the opportunity to read this! I have loved every Chevy Steven’s book that I’ve read and this is no different. The plot. The story. Everything. Still have this on my mind! 5 stars!

Love Chevy Steven’s! I devoured this book in less than 24hrs. I do, however would have liked to read what happened on the farm after Jenny tipped off the police.

•As Tom and Alice set out in their RV, eager to get away from the heartbreak at home, they’re expecting a trip full of beautiful pictures and amazing memories. But after they meet two hitchhikers, Blue and Ocean, that vision of a idillic vacation goes out the window.

•Blue and Ocean— better know as Jenny and Simon— are actually on the run and wanted by law enforcement. Tom and Alice end up trapped in their web of destruction and violence as they try to stop the couple from hurting anyone else.

•Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Chevy Stevens for this ARC. It will be available on October 7, 2025.

The Hitchhiker is a tense and atmospheric thriller that pulls you in with its eerie premise and keeps you hooked with its emotional depth. Chevy Stevens does a fantastic job blending suspense with the psychological toll of trauma, especially through the perspective of the main character, who feels raw and real.

The story unfolds with a strong sense of dread, and the pacing is just right—slow enough to build suspense, but never dragging. Stevens knows how to make you care about her characters, which makes the moments of danger and heartbreak hit even harder. There are a few moments where the plot edges toward the predictable, but the emotional weight and well-drawn relationships more than make up for it.

It’s not just a thriller—it’s a powerful story about survival, sisterhood, and the scars that violence can leave behind. A great read that sticks with you long after you finish

Cool setting--1970s in Canada... back when hitchhiking was a thing. Fun read with some interesting twists.

I absolutely loved this book! The suspense was great. I felt like I was in each scene, the writing was that good. I couldn't wait too see how it would end then was sorry to have finished the book. The characters were very well written. I will definitely recommend this book!

I struggled to get through this one. The characters and plot just didn’t suck me in like I was hoping :/

Still Missing is one of my core memory reads – it’s burnt into my brain, it gave me nightmares, and I recommend it often. Unfortunately, The Hitchhikers didn’t hit the same way. The 70’s atmosphere was good, and the front half of the story was fine, but it eventually became so much violence that it was no longer entertaining to read. Both FMCs were pretty grating, and that made it a little harder to suspend reality and just go along for the bloody ride. I do also wish we had more clarity at the end!

I enjoyed this even with seeing the big “twist” a mile away. I enjoyed the characters, story, and pace.

Alice and Tom set out on a Canadian road trip in their new RV hoping to repair their damaged marriage. The couple has been through a recent trauma and have started to drift apart. A cross-country road trip to the Olympics seems like the perfect chance to reconnect. When they meet two young hitchhikers, Ocean and Blue, they make fast friends as the young couple is a nice distraction rather than focusing on healing their relationship. Soon Alice and Tom learn that the hitchhikers are not who they present themselves to be.

Jenny and Simon are on the run after committing murder. When they meet Alice and Tom, the couple strikes up a reluctant friendship based on necessity. Jenny and Simon have very little as far as resources while Alice and Tom have an RV stocked with supplies and a willingness to take the young couple under their wing. As Alice and Tom become aware of the hitchhiker’s true identities, tensions begin to rise and the situation spins out of control. Can any of them stop Simon’s trail of blood and violence from spreading across Canada?

Whoa, what a wild ride! This story kept me on the edge of my seat through all the twists and turns. The story is told in Alice and Jenny’s alternating points of view. We also get a couple of glimpses into their pasts. There were quite a few surprises that I didn’t see coming! I found it really compelling how the author evoked feelings of contempt and compassion for Jenny and Simon at different points during the story. I adore Chevy Stevens, and I will continue to be a lifelong reader :) This one is definitely a nail biting five stars!

This is only my second book by this author but I can see why she’s so popular.

This was a unique thriller that had me gripping my kindle unable to put it down.

Perfectly set in the 1970s following two hitchhikers on the run after murdering the girls mother and step father (queue Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen).

I loved the road-trip across Canadas western provinces wondering what Simon’s end game was.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I want to say thank you to netgalley and the author Chevy Stevens for the ARC copy of this book. It was horrifying and I couldn’t put it down. One thing after another with these hitchhikers. The book is very descriptive so get ready for some drama. You’ll
Be on the edge of your seat as you read this book. It definitely has an unexpected ending.
I was given a copy of this book for free for my honest opinion. Enjoy!

Looks can be deceiving. Isn't that what the old saying is? What a ride! The Hitchhikers takes the reader on a journey of two unsuspecting young adults passing through a campground when a sweet mid-thirties couple invites them to camp out in their RV and have dinner with them. From there, begins a chain of events that have devasting consequences.

I always love Chevy Stevens' thrillers and this one kept me turning those pages. A few times I thought the couple could have done a bit more to disarm the hitchhiking duo, but overall, a satisfying ending.

This will be a perfect thriller for fall so be sure to add it to your TBR. It is due to be published Oct. 7, 2025. Thank you to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for this ARC.

Chevy Stevens writes another hit with her new story The Hitchhikers. The story takes place in the 1970's with a married couple picking up 2 young hitchhikers and ending up on the ride of their lives. The action and suspense are intense, making you not want to put down the book even for a minute. The story also takes on some tough topics like loss of a child, assault, and child abuse. It is an absolutely intriguing and emotional story.

Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the advanced copy.

Wow, I have always enjoyed Chevy's books, but this one was very hard to put down.I'd have to say she knocked it out of the ballpark with this book. I was very please that Chevy had a new book coming out. It did leave a few questions in my mind, how did the police know to go to the hospital? how did they find them there?

Chevy Stevens does it again! This book kept me hooked and I could not put it down! I felt like the characters were well developed and I really got to know them. There were a few questions I had at the end but I felt like it wrapped up nicely.

This book is a solid and enjoyable thriller. It started out strong, but I lost a little interest in the middle. It picked up, and by the time I got toward the end I was racing through the pages. Highly recommended.

I had the pleasure of reading The Hitchhikers before release day. I was hooked before I hit 30 pages. I loved the dual narration, especially since it was written in 3rd person. The way Chevy Stevens wrote this book was brilliant. We see how Simon and Jenny evolved; we see the love they share. There is suspense, there is room for the reader to have their own opinions and thoughts. During the period while they were driving in the car, I never felt bored or as if the plot was stagnant. This book is very well-written, and I will be purchasing a physical copy.

There was only two parts that I felt could've had improvement or that I didn't like. Number one: at about 32% , there was a paragraph that mixed up the names of the two women. This is what is written, "In the morning, she and Simon took turns in the bathroom, then Jenny changed into a lavender sundress that had puffed sleeves and floated loose around her belly. Most of her clothes needed to be washed now. She and Simon had run away in such a hurry she'd barely had time to grab anything. She needed a shower. Alice probably wanted one, too." This segment was written in Jenny's point of view, but it's written as if it was Alice.
Secondly, we never find out what happens with Ruth and William. Did they survive? How did they get out? How did Tom escape? I know some authors like to leave this up to the imagination of the reader, but I tend to wish I knew how things played out.

In the end, I rated this book 4/5 stars.
