I enjoyed the 1970s setting of The Hitchhikers, and in general I found it an interesting read—it just wasn't quite as suspenseful as I hoped. While I was motivated to keep reading, I also felt parts a bit repetitive, as the same sort of scenario played out over and over.

I'd have loved more about Simon's back story, like we got with Jenny. He wasn't at all sympathetic to me but a back story might have given more color to *why* he was the way he was.

I also saw one aspect of the ending coming from a mile away; I imagine some readers have conflicting feelings about it as a plot device (justifiably), but I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up a little.

This book had me feeling all sorts! In a good way! At first when you meet the character Alice you definitely feel for the woman who has lost so much trying to grow a family with her husband. You can tell theres so much love between the two so when they meet Simon and Jenny and have them go through even more at the hands of Simon and Jenny, you’re left with so many emotions. There was times where I sympathized with all the characters tbh. Overall such a good easy fast read for me.

WOW! This was a great fictional book! I absolutely loved reading it from beginning to the very end. This story made me emotional! It is dark, suspenseful, unpredictable, and heartbreaking. This was my first book written by this author and it definitely won’t be my last! It took me on a journey that I will never forget! This book comes with short chapters, a dual POV, and great character developments! It is a medium paced read and is very easy to follow. Some of the themes in this book include good versus evil, lingering effects on trauma and the dynamics of trust. Picking up these hitchhikers is something that nobody could be prepared for!

“The Hitchhikers” is about Tom and Alice going on a trip in their RV in the 70’s, after suffering a loss of their own. They are roadtripping to Canada, then see two hitchhikers! Stranger danger!! These hitchhikers are named Jenny and Simon and they are full of secrets and deceit. These hitchhikers end up being two people they should have never picked up! Things get wild and there are twists and turns you don’t see coming! Be sure to read the trigger warnings prior to reading this book. I give this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars!

I have loved every single one of Chevy Stevens books so far, so I was stoked to get early access to the Hitchhikers!

As usual with her books, the story was suspenseful from the start. You're immediately drawn in and want to scream out to the characters to be careful. Then you're second guessing yourself wondering who can actually be trusted as the story progresses!

I read this book in a day and enjoyed every minute of it. She built up the story so well, and the ending was the perfect touch after all the suspense. Highly recommend!

Chevy Stevens delivers another gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller with The Hitchhikers—a haunting exploration of what people will do for love, survival, and the desperate choices that blur the lines between right and wrong.

I read a Chevy Stevens book many years ago and enjoyed it, so I figured I'd give this one a shot. I'm glad I did, even though I was so very frustrated with the characters, but that was kind of the point.
The "who's next?" vibe of the entire book kept the pace going and I knew there would be a twist eventually. Somewhere along the way I picked up on what I thought it would be and turns out I was right for once! That's not to say this book is predictable, there's plenty of action and crazy turns.
My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advance reader copy of this title in exchange for my honest review.

🚨 Review: The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chevy Stevens does not mess around—and The Hitchhikers proves it. This book is an edge-of-your-seat, heart-pounding thriller that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go. Gritty, emotional, and hauntingly real, it explores trauma, resilience, and the terrifying truth that one decision can change everything.

Tense twists, raw emotion, and that signature Stevens suspense—this one’s a wild ride you won’t forget.

This was a good book that gave me some serious bonnie and Clyde vibes. I loved the character development in the story and the growth of Alice and Jenny. It was a slow burn I think that there were parts that didn't need to be included and some of the spots were very slow and I felt like not much was happening. I am glad that I pushed through because the ending was great the twist was good. The ending was emotional and I loved it and so glad that I stuck with this book the ending was worth it.

This story is unravels the lives of 2 couples who's very different lives unravel under dire circumstances. One couple is holding the other hostage. Through out the book you grow to deeply know the characters. While a few points were a little slow it's good a great ending. Overall it is a good story, but it's didn't fully capture my attention like her other books.

This book grabbed my interest from the first page and kept my attention until the last page. This story is told from the perspectives of the two female main characters. It is the story of two young people from troubled homes whose lives intersect with a married couple. There is a twist in this one. How far would you go for love?

Book Review ‼️
The Hitchhikers - Chevy Stevens
Thriller / Suspense
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Blurb:
“It’s the summer of 1976 and Alice and Tom set out on the remote Canadian highways in their new RV, hoping to heal their broken hearts after a devastating tragedy.
They’ve planned the trip perfectly, taken care of every detail. Then they meet two young hitchhikers down on their luck and offer them a ride. But Simon and Jenny aren’t what they seem. They’ve left a trail of blood, destruction, and madness behind them.”

This read was suspenseful. I felt like I was a fly on the wall in every single scene. I love Chevys’ writing style.

This story is told from dual POV, which I am a fan of. It is easy to follow, the characters are well written, & it’s rather quick paced.

The story is all the way believable and the sequence of events is exciting, I didn’t want ti put it down.

The ending is where you lost me. I hated how she chose to end this book. I feel let down. It was lackluster in my opinion and I finished this read feeling a little disappointed.

Thank you to Chevy Stevens, St Martin’s Press & Netgalley for a copy of this digital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have enjoyed Chevy Stevens previous novels and this one did not disappoint.
The Hitchhikers started off with a bang and was pretty fast paced but also quite a bit of character development.
Tom and Alice are an American couple on vacation with their new RV in Canada, the novel is set in 1976 during the bicentennial.
While at a campground they encounter a young couple traveling with no vehicle or camping gear. They invite them to dinner and then offer to give them a ride to the next town.
Soon Alice discovers they are wanted killers and then everything goes sideways from there.
I don’t want to give anything away. There are some very tense moments and there is quite a bit of violence.
I found this to be very well written and engaging.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review the hitchhikers.

The final.two sentences of this book truly touched my heart as it showed how much Jenny wanted to belong and be loved by a family. She gave Katie what she knew she needed and deserved. Growing up, Jenny was alone and suffering. She had an apathetic mother and stepfather that knew no boundaries. She was forced to rely on her body image as a means to make her mother happy. It is no wonder that she behaved in the manner as she did and clung to Simon. She was willing to do anything to make him happy despite his acts of pure evil. Alice and Tom were simply a lovely couple who were traveling in their RV as a means to reignite their relationship given what Alice had Bern through. They took the couple in because they wanted to help and feed them and gave them shelter. Unfortunately, that was not what Simon had in mind and the novel took on.violence both physically and emotionally. He was a true sociopath that only wanted what served him in that moment. Jenny was there just to help him out. I thought this book was extremely well written and would recommend it to others.

Wow, what a ride! This is a dark and violent story of two hitchhikers and the people they meet along their journey (no spoilers here!)
Set in the 70s, with vivid and accurate detail, this a story of a cross-country crime spree that examines the reasons behind our dark behavior. The characters were relatable and compelling. And kept me reading till the end.
Once I thought I had the ending figured out, the author threw in a couple of curveballs.
Overall, emotionally draining, but entertaining story.

This had great atmosphere, good character development and twists I didn’t see coming. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and couldn’t wait to see how it turned out!

Tom and Alice set off on the trip of a lifetime.
Hoping to put some magic back into their faltering marriage, they pack up their camper
and head out on the byways.
When two young hitchhikers seem down on their luck and are looking for a ride to the next
town, they decide to let them ride along with them.
Mistake number one and they just compound from there.
Murder and mayhem follow.
The storyline was easy to follow: a simple case of "what were you always told not to do"".
What comes next was never a mystery or a surprise of any kind.
Just 3 stars for me.
