This story follows a married couple traveling by RV through the breathtaking Canadian landscape on their way to the Olympics. Along their journey, they stop at various campgrounds, embracing the natural beauty and peaceful pace of travel. Their trip takes a dramatic turn when they encounter a young, pregnant hitchhiking couple. Offering them a meal and eventually a ride, the married couple makes a life-altering decision that puts their own safety—and others’—at risk in unexpected and profound ways.
The character development is especially strong, with the married woman’s emotional arc standing out. Her initial fragility is portrayed with tenderness, making her eventual strength in a critical moment all the more powerful. This story explores themes of trust, vulnerability, and the quiet heroism found in everyday people.

This book sucked me in from the very start and I loved following the different twists and turns of the plot. I had such a great time reading it and definitely will be recommending it to others. I had such a great time reading!

Talk about a book that kept me on the edge of my seat! The Hitchhikers was a super intense thriller about a young couple running away from a horrible situation. Unfortunately things just go from bad to worse when a sweet couple picks them up and from there chaos ensues. Loved the entire story, such a great read!

I have been waiting for years for the next book by Chevy Stevens and it was not a disappointment! A little slower paced than her previous books but I still loved it! I already have a copy preordered!

another HIT from chevy stevens.
an absolutely chaotic
emotional rollercoaster.
i felt like I was in it with alice, ted, blue, and ocean. my heart was racing.
i barely breathed for the full 36 hours it took me to tear through this thing
the twists were brutal and perfectly timed. this book left me staring at the wall like… what just happened?
un-put-down-able.
this is an anxiety inducing and suspenseful story filled with characters that i couldn’t figure out if i was rooting for or against or maybe a little of both. a lot of the anxiety i felt while reading this was the fact that alice and tom’s behaviors and reactions felt hyper realistic and relatable. i could see myself trying to behave in similar ways if i was caught in this situation. it felt like i could really understand what they were going through. that’s one of my favorite things about chevy’s other books - how realistic and nuanced the characters are.

I am such a Chevy Stevens fan and this book was on my 25 in 25 list and I'm so happy to have been able to read an advanced copy. And let me tell you this did not disappoint! I couldn't put it down. We are following Tom and Alice who are in an RV driving through Canada when they encounter Blue and Ocean hitchhiking. And there's a reason folks that we are told not to pick up hitchhikers!

3.5⭐️s
This thrilling novel gave me anxiety as well as it also made me angry at some situations throughout the book. I felt like some of the situations the characters were in could have been avoided or dealt with differently and the book could have ended a lot faster. The ending was satisfying, this is my first time reading anything novel from Chevy Stevens and it won’t be my last.
Alice and Tom head on a RV road trip in remote Canada to heal from tragedy. They encounter hitchhikers Simon and Jenny who are not as they appear, and soon Alice and Tom find themselves trapped in a dangerous game where they must figure out who truly has evil intentions. The story is a suspenseful thriller with twists and turns, exploring themes of loss, trauma, and the deceptive nature of appearances.

I really enjoyed this book. While I was expecting a bit more “Natural Born Killers” vibes this was still a solid read. It did a great job of hooking me early in the beginning and while I did find it a bit slow in the middle, the ending was more than satisfying. I wasn’t expecting what we learn about Jenny and her parents and I love when a book catches me off guard like that. She did a great job at building a palpable tension in this book, 4 stars!!

This book was fantastic, character-driven, suspenseful read. It was intense and creepy that kept me engaged throughout. I also liked the nostalgia of going back to the 70s and the story definitely depicted the time. i loved Alice and Tom and I was secretly rooting for Jenny. Thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press. and Chevy Stevens for allowing me the opportunity to read this advanced copy.

Thanks to Net Galley I was lucky enough to get my hands on Chevy Stevens new book and 😮😮
Chevy has never failed me and this book was no different! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I was anxious, mad, sad, happy.. just all the emotions.
I loved Alice and Tom , and I was always secretly rooting for Jenny🧡
I did not see that ending coming , bye Simon 👋🏼

Wow what a ride! I really enjoyed this one. The 70ies vibes, murderous hitchhikers, hippies, RV trip, Canada...all the things!
While I knew the ending the whole time (why it's not 5), I still couldn't put it down. I needed to know how Alice and Tom get out of the mess they encounter.
My first read by Chevy Stevens, but I will be back for more.
Thank you, Netgalley, publisher, and author for the ARC.

What a story to have you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next!!
This was another great one by Chevy Stevens. However, I did find it to definitely be a slow most of the time. I was on the edge of my seat when the action was going on.
Chevy Stevens has been one of my all time top authors and I own every one of her books. I will be purchasing this one for my bookshelf when it releases as well!
Thank you Netgalley & Chevy Stevens for the copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much St. Martins Press and NetGalley for this arc.
Chevy Steven’s is one of my fave authors! I love all of her stuff and I will continue to read every book that comes out and this is no exception. This is my first arc of chevys and it was so good! Well developed characters and such a good story line! I loved it!

The Hitchhikers is tension filled and kept me turning pages well into the night. Alice and Tim are on a RV journey and pick up two hitchhikers. Will they regret it? The building suspense and non stop action make this book hard to put down.

I have been reading this author for awhile, and I feel like her writing just kind getting better. I thought the characters were well written, and I stayed interested in the story.

Chevy Stevens is one of my favorite authors and "The Hitchhikers" proves why. An amazing story that will keep you up all night reading.

"The Hitchhikers" by Chevy Stevens is the ultimate road trip thriller that’ll have you gripping your seat—no seatbelt required, but trust me, you’ll need one. Set against the backdrop of the groovy 1970s, Alice and Tom set off in their camper, hoping the Olympic Games in Canada will heal their troubled relationship. Spoiler alert: their relationship isn’t the only thing that’s about to go off-track.
Told in dual POVs, Alice and Tom’s journey takes a sharp turn when they pick up a seemingly harmless young couple. As they venture through the stunning Canadian landscape, they’re about to discover that sometimes, even a detour can be a very dangerous thing. And trust me, once you find out who this couple really is, you’ll be wishing they’d just stuck to the freeway.
This book is a masterclass in suspense. It’s like Chevy Stevens took all the tension in the world and wrapped it in a 70s-inspired camper van. The "one more chapter" curse is real, folks—I couldn’t put this down. The plot is tightly woven, with every moment building the kind of suspense that has you questioning everything. Are these characters safe? Will Alice and Tom make it to the Olympics, or will they be running from something far worse?
And let’s talk about Chevy Stevens’ writing. She’s the kind of author who doesn’t let you breathe until the last page. I felt fully immersed in their journey—the sights, the sounds, the whispers of danger creeping in. There was never a lull. Every chapter pushed the tension higher and higher. If you’re someone who loves a story with twists, turns, and characters who won’t let you look away, this book is for you.
If you’re in the mood for a rollercoaster ride that starts with the open road and ends in a wild, unexpected destination, pick this one up. Just make sure you’re ready for a wild ride—Alice and Tom certainly weren’t.
Highly recommend for fans of edge-of-your-seat thrillers with just the right mix of nostalgia, suspense, and jaw-dropping twists.
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Chevy Stevens for allowing me the opportunity to read this advanced copy and providing my honest feedback.

I didn’t love this book. The characters were very frustrating and I found the ending to be very predictable. I do typically enjoy all of Chevy Steven’s novels, but this one was a miss for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens due to be published October 7, 2025.
In 1976 in Canada, Tom and Alice set out to heal their fractured marriage in an RV. They meet two hitchhikers who say their names are Ocean and Blue. In reality, they are Jenny and Simon and they have left a trail of destruction and lives behind. Alice and Tom are trapped in a deadly game. Will they make it to their destination?
I have read several Chevy Stevens books – I think this one was my favorite! The suspense throughout was nail biting and the plot kept me interested the whole time I was reading – finished it in two days! I couldn’t wait to see what happened next to Tom, Alice, Jenny, and Simon, and the end was very satisfying. Looking forward to another one of her books!

Well written, propulsive. The perfect read for a long plane trip in that it pulls you in and you're completely immersed. You wonder at the choices people make but there wouldn't be a book if people didn't make stupid decisions. Also, I agree with another who commented that it's important to read to the end.
