The number of incomplete sentences in the beginning of the book was distracting. Proofreading is in order.
The characters seem to veer between emotions at an unrealistic pace and yet I didn't feel they were being adequately developed.. I found myself interested in where the plot would go but uninterested in the characters as presented.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Chevy Stevens because she’s a wonderful Canadian author. I love reading about my province and all the history she integrates

I raced through this one as it gripped me by the throat! Tom and Alice are traveling through Canada in their RV when they stop and pick up hitchhikers, Ocean and Blue--otherwise known as Simon and Jenny. Things seem to be going well until Alice sees a newspaper article that has her worried as the couple in it look a lot like their hitchhikers....So buckle up and get reading!!!!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Holy Moses! Chevy Stevens knocks another one right out of the park! Fabulous characters that had me totally captivated from beginning to end. I love her writing style and felt like I was a part of the story. Picked with tension and thrills. Don’t let this gem pass you by.
Thank you NetGalley, Chevy Stevens and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

(2.5 rounded down) This is a thriller about a couple in their 30’s who help a pair of hitchhikers they meet at a campsite. The hitchhikers are not who they say they are and things go off the rails. The premise to this sounded fun and also reminded me of a great early Nicole Kidman movie I love (Dead Calm), but I was disappointed by this. I felt like the twists were telegraphed, the characters were pretty boilerplate, the dialogue felt forced, and the choices the characters make were not really realistic. I’m also a little tired of narratives including a violent upbringing as part of a character’s motivations, but that’s my own oversaturation, not a fault of the book. I did like the fact that the story is dual narrative, told by the wife of the couple and the girlfriend of the hitchhiking duo and the setting of the mid 1970’s - it was very atmospheric and also made plot sense, which I can’t elaborate on without spoilers. I preferred the front half to the back half and I do think this book will have an appreciative audience - that just wasn’t me!

Chevy Stevens is one of my favorite authors and once again, she has hit it out of the ball park with her riveting new book The Hitchhikers. I devoured it in one day, turning pages as fast as I could, long into the early morning hours. I was lucky to receive an ARC and I can’t wait for everyone else to read it!!

This one was a mixed bag for me. It's a solid story with an interesting cast of characters that were engaging. The suspense falters a little in the middle. I found myself putting it down easily and not feeling all that compelled to pick it up again. I was interested in how things would end up and wasn't really all that surprised by an ending that seemed a bit too neat and tidy.. Still, it was a solid read, just not a fantastic one.

I am a big fan of Chevy Stevens so it really pains me to say that this book just didn't quite hit the mark for me. Something about Alice was unlikeable. I can't pinpoint it exactly but I struggled with her character. Tom seemed to be kind of an afterthought and easily forgettable. Simon had really no backstory other than a drunk dad. The ending was a bit anticlimatic and I saw it coming. It's worth a read but won't be going onto my "absolutely recommend" list like some of the other books by the same author.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin Press for the E Arc of this book. I love every book I have read by Chevy Stevens and this one didn't disappoint. It was definitely a heart pounding, page turning adventure. The ending was shocking, I never saw that coming. I can't wait to read more of Chevy Steven's book catalog.

This was a fun read! I loved the 70s feel! No cell phones no easy way to communicate! It was intense in the beginning got a little slow for me and then picked up again towards the end. And at the end when I tell you I gasped I gasped! I absolutely loved the ending! Chevy doesn’t disappoint!

Incredible story! Be sure you clear your day before you start this novel, you won't want to do anything but keep reading! I have been a Chevy Steven's fan for awhile, this one surely cements her place as one of my favorite authors. I really cared about the characters, even though I probably shouldn't! Not a thriller, not a mystery, but excellent story nonetheless. Very entertaining and the only downside is now I'll have to wait for her next novel! Definitely read this one!

I am a huge Chevy Stevens fan. I loved all of her books but found this one a bit underwhelming and predictable. It was action packed and a fast read but in my opinion lacked the “psychological thriller” edge that I’ve always loved about her books.

Whew, I was up all night finishing this book because I had to know what happened! This was definitely a creepy thriller that kept me captivated the entire time. The only thing I didn’t like was how the ending didn’t really seem to fit in with the rest of the story. I was left wondering how one of the characters even got wrapped up in the entire situation.
Thank you, NetGalley for the arc!

Chevy Stevens did it again!!!! As soon as I saw that I could read her book now before it's October release, I immediately downloaded it and started my journey of Alice,Tom,Simon and Jenny. Such a great book, with so many emotions at once. The story is of a couple in their early 30s Alice and Tom. They are a very loving, devoted couple who have had problems conceiving. They recently bought an RV and are on a camping trip from Canada. While lodged one day they meet fellow campers Blue and Ocean, a young couple who seem down on their luck. That's as much as I can reveal as the book takes off from there and doesn't stop. I read this book in two days only because I had to stop because.....life.😂. The ending has a few twists and I was both surprised and happy with the outcome. Great book, highly recommend!!!!

Twisty, tension-filled read that kept me flipping pages and ignoring my to-do list! I loved that it was a Canadian setting and Canadian author. I could picture the places as I read. I'll admit to being frustrated with the pacing in the second half. It detracted from what could have been a five-star read.
Will Alice and Tom Bell regret picking up the hitchhikers? Only time will tell.
To say any more would be treading on dangerous ground. You deserve a thrilling read with no spoilers. I’ll be checking out the author’s backlist!
I was gifted this copy by St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Married couple taking an RV trip to rekindle their relationship goes horribly wrong when they pick up innocent hitchhikers. I wanted to like this so much more. Good story, good suspense but I wanted more depth in the characters. Alice was toooo weak, Tom was pretty much out of the picture most of the book and the hitchhikers - only the girl had a some background that helped to explain why her passiveness. Would recommend for a quick suspenseful read though.
Thank you for the ARC NetGalley!

This book kept me on my toes and had me glued to my kindle. It was suspenseful, captivating, and held your attention the entire time.

I was so excited to get my hands on this book! I feel like I've been waiting forever for Chevy Stevens to come out with something new. I didn't realize it wasn't a thriller until after I finished reading. It's categorized as fiction and definitely reads as such. It's more of a character-driven, psychological descent into two separate hells. The POV of Alice, who is held captive and doing whatever it takes to ensure her and her husband's survival, and the POV of Jenny, who is fighting her own inner demons and struggling with her insecurities. The story was very well written, from a psychological aspect, but the high level of tension or suspense that I should have been feeling wasn't really there. Instead, all I felt was anger throughout the entire story. I simply couldn't relate to Alice and her feebleness with the situation. Just do something already! It was not as fast paced as I would have liked, and the ending was a little too abrupt and dissatisfying. I needed more action and a final Eff You. I would recommend this book for what it was...a psychological drama, not a thriller. I think many fans will still devour it and love it.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for granting me a digital ARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review!

Wow just WOW there’s so much to unpack with this book I don’t even know where to begin!! I went into this book knowing very little, but was very impressed and left speechless!
Let me start by saying if you don’t have this book on your radar YOU NEED TO! Chevy Stevens never ceases to amaze me with her talent for telling a chilling story. You’re instantly hooked and can’t put her books down!
It’s 1976 when a married couple, Alice and Tom, buy a camper and travel to Canada for the Olympics. Along the way they stop at rest stops, camp grounds, and state parks. One night they meet a very young couple that are also traveling. Little do Alice and Tom know this couple is about to destroy their world.
This book was full of action, gut wrenching moments, and so much more. I truly couldn’t put this book down once I started it. There’s so much that happens in such a short amount of time and you have no idea what to expect next! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
My only complaint? I wanted the villain to face even more consequences. He was such a terrible person that I was hoping for a more satisfying downfall!
Thank you so much @stmartinspress & @chevystevens for letting me ready this one early and review it!! I couldn’t wait another second to start this one once it arrived!!
