Wow - I did not expect this to be as sweet, wholesome and joyful as it was but I adored this graphic novel and I'm already so eager for future volumes. This builds an immediately romantic relationship (that's t4t!!!! i was so excited to discover that) and a character that uses multiple pronouns. Ugh there's not a ton to say about graphic novels so I will just spread out the short bit I want to say: I looooooooooved it.

This was a cute read! I loved the art and the characters’ interactions with one another. It was great to see Marcus and Cog work out their feelings for one another and I appreciated how the author helped me feel the excitement that goes along with first crushes. I didn’t see a whole lot of plot here, which lowered my rating, but overall it was fun reading.

This is absolutely adorable! The character designs are super cute and diverse, and the art style is bright, soft, and fun to look at. Marcus and Cog have great chemistry and it was a joy to watch them become friends and gradually start expressing their feelings for each other. The supporting characters are also delightful. My favorite thing is how absolutely besotted Marcus is, and how Cog is pretty oblivious at the start. Their conversations and interactions made me smile and laugh. Overall, a sweet and lighthearted comic that I'm eager to read more of!

[Thanks to the publishers for a NetGalley proof!] This really won me over. Some webtoons don't translate too well to a traditional page format, and I feared Daybreak would fall victim of this, but you can see the artist's progress throughout and the two protagonists grew on me. Lovely, light-hearted, sweet as syrup. I love the enby rep, and I love that Cog isn't just a one-note personality, as can be the case with 'grumpy' archetypal characters. All I can say is I wish we'd had a little more backstory, and wanting more is hardly a critique. Would reccomend :)

Staaaap it, it's so cute! I can't even remember the last time I read such a cute story. I smiled so much, my cheeks hurt lol.
I picked the book solely based on the cover. Black love, you feel me?! And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. I don't usually read YA or cute stories like this, but I'm so glad I read this one. It literally lifted my entire mood.
I loved loved the art style, the hair styles, the durag, the bonnet...you name it. My only grips are that I couldn't figure out Marcus' pronouns. I don't think I've ever seen they and him use in the same sentence to talk about the same person. I'm not sure if it was intentional or just overlooked? I also had troubles figuring out at times if the story was happening the same day or another day, especially the scenes at the high school.
But I absolutely loved this story! I was yapping to my sister about it, and she told that me she followed the creator on Tumblr way back in the day. How cool is it to witness the journey?!

Ah! They are so cute! Ive seen this one around in social media and I am so glad I got the opportunity to read it. I love the artstyle they do Black characters so well plus the main characters are adorable and I love them!

This is so cute and wholesome. I've been a big fan of the webcomic since it first came out so I'm soooo happy it's getting published. I love Marcus and Cog. I can't wait to have this on my shelf to reread whenever I need something feel good.

Firstly, the illustrations - colourful and fun and cute!
Secondly, Cog and Marcus being the ultimate grumpy X sunshine couple. I couldn’t help but have the biggest grin on my face whilst reading this!
Thirdly, I loved all the different representations within this! It really is a graphic novel I think anyone could love/ relate to or just find some comfort in!
I’m so glad I saved this to read during pride. I’ll be picking up the second volume!
Thank you to Netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

This was so cute and lovely!! A slice of life graphic novel with a blooming romance between queer Black teens Marcus and Cog and their going-ons with their families and friend groups. The art style was amazing, perfect for the vibe of the story and Moosopp created very distinct and memorable character designs that I will definitely be thinking about for a while! The story itself was also very adorable, with a lot of chemistry between Marcus and Cog and wholesome interactions with the rest of the cast. I wish we got to know more about the characters individually and the romance itself only picked up towards the end, so I am excited for what the next volume will bring.
This graphic novel has been on my TBR for a while because it's one of my partner's favourite Webtoons, so I am extremely happy to have gotten to finally read it and will definitely be looking forward to the future releases!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the ARC in exchange for a review.

kicking my feet, blushing, squealing, and blowing up
this was one of the sweetest things i've read in a long time

Oh my god this was so fucking cute. I am definitely gunna read more of this on Webtoon. Absolutely adorable! Cog and Marcus are the cutest babies! This slice of life high school graphic novel is perfect.
Thank you to NG and the publisher for a free review copy. All opinions are my own.

This was absolutely SO sweet and fluffy! A perfect story about two people falling in love with each other and trying to figure out if the feelings are mutual. I loved the art so much, and the way expressions were displayed. Just a really sweet book!

Beautiful artwork and inclusive queer representation are definite strengths here. The themes around identity and self-discovery are meaningful and timely.
That said, the reading experience was often disjointed. Dialogue was hard to follow, thought bubbles were confusing, and some visual elements disrupted the flow. A few characters felt overly chaotic, which made it hard to stay grounded in the story.
Important message, strong visual style—but the execution didn’t fully land for me.

Absolutely adorable!! A very sweet romance, definitely appropriate for the whole YA range. Thank you so much to NetGalley for the ARC!

“They’re both surprisingly calm”
***internally: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Oh my gosh this was ADORABLE. Marcus and Cog are the cutest! Everything they did together I was swooning. Marcus is such a sweetie pie, and poor Cog is oblivious… until he’s not and is in a constant mode of gay panic!
Cooking food for them, warming their hands up, the compliments. It was so wholesome! I could explode over the cuteness. And don’t get me started on their jealousy. Oh my goodness my heart can’t handle it.
I looooved how they shared their interests with each other and how much they enjoyed watching each other be passionate. Then to try it for themselves because they knew the other liked it (like reading Cog’s favorite series omggg)
The drawings were beautiful, and I was absorbed into the story. I need the next Volume!! Like ASAP!! Pls I’m begging. I can’t take the cliffhanger!!
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to ARC read!

Day break is a Relatable Wholesome Queer high school first love story. Cog and Marcus are the main characters. It does a good job at making you feel their crush feelings for each other. I love Marcus’s character design.

2/5 ⭐️
I really wanted to love Daybreak, and there were definitely some bright spots. The relationship between Cog and Marcus was super cute, with that fun, giddy energy that comes with first crushes and young love. I also really appreciated that it was a queer storyline—it’s always great to see more LGBTQ+ representation in books like this.
That said, the plot felt weak overall. It focused heavily on Cog and Marcus’s connection, but the background storylines were almost nonexistent or forgotten. At times, it would start building a plot point, only to completely abandon it on the next page without resolution or transition. It made the pacing feel off and the story a bit disjointed.
One thing that also stood out to me was the confusion around Cog’s pronouns. While Marcus’s pronouns were clearly listed at one point (he/him), it wasn’t as clear with Cog. The narrative shifted between “he” and “they” for Cog, and I couldn’t tell if that was intentional or just inconsistent. It would’ve been helpful—and respectful—to have some confirmation within the story to avoid that ambiguity.
All in all, while the romance was sweet and I loved the queer representation, the lack of plot structure and clarity brought this down for me.

"Daybreak" by Moosopp is a delightful dive into the sweet, awkward, and utterly endearing world of first crushes. Following senior-year students Marcus and Cog, this Webtoon comic perfectly captures the essence of young love blossoming amidst everyday "hijinks."
The premise of two individuals from different social circles slowly discovering a connection is a classic, but "Daybreak" elevates it with its genuine characters and relatable scenarios. Marcus, the "wholesome sweetheart," and Cog, who is "easily overwhelmed," create a wonderfully balanced dynamic. Their interactions, from Marcus thoughtfully preparing lunch to Cog walking him home, paint a picture of burgeoning affection and a natural rhythm between them. The mention of "accidental paper-eating incidents" hints at the charmingly quirky humor that likely permeates the series, adding to its overall appeal.
What truly makes "Daybreak" sound special is the emphasis on their cluelessness and the unhurried pace of their developing feelings. In a world often focused on instant gratification, the idea of Marcus and Cog "taking their time" to confess their crushes is refreshing and authentic. It allows readers to savor every small moment of connection and anticipation. With almost 90 million reads on Webtoon, it's clear this endearing tale has resonated with a vast audience, eager to witness Marcus and Cog "brighten each other’s day" as they navigate the sweet uncertainties of senior year.
This collected volume, spanning episodes 1 to 52, promises a substantial and satisfying read for anyone who enjoys wholesome romance, relatable character development, and a good dose of will-they-won't-they charm. "Daybreak" seems like the perfect comic to pick up when you're looking for something to warm your heart and bring a smile to your face.

Cute but also maybe too cute? I would've liked more plot and a character arc or two. The potential is there but this wasn't at Heartstopper levels.

Thank you NetGalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled for this arc. All opinions are my own. This was adorable! It was so fun getting caught up in those feelings of a crush. The uncertainty, the hope, the butterflies! The art is gorgeous and I appreciated the Black queer representation as well. Can't wait to continue this story.
