Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!
Can we just take a second to appreciate the awesome art style of this book? I'm obsessed!😍 Honestly, I have zero complaints about this read. It was such a fun and cute experience! The characters are so adorable, I love them all and can't wait for Volume 2. If you're in the mood for a warm, fuzzy, lighthearted read, this is definitely the book for you!

This is the cutest, most wholesome comic i have ever read, and yes that includes heartstopper. This was a very adorable and hilarious YA comic about two people in high school having a crush on each other.

Adorable, this was a slice of life high school romance with not one, but two black queer kids learning to awkwardly flirt.

Marcus absolutely is a smitten sweetheart from the very start. He’s tall, handsome, and has great hair. Con on the other hand is absolutely obliviously adorkable until he finally figures out he’s crushing on Marcus.the supporting characters are also fun and just as diverse (a headscarf wearing girl with vitiligo?! Ok girl I see you!

I do plan on checking out the next installment, but also hope there is a bit more direction latter in the series.

Thanks to Netgally for the ARC and ability to review.

Daybreak is a super sweet full colour webtoon about queer romance between Cog and Marcus, two black high school students who deal with their crushes on each other. The art is really cute, and the cast of characters is wonderfully diverse. This is a title I would definitely recommend to middle grade and high schools to add to their libraries.

I love these sweet, lovesick dinguses <3

I've been reading Daybreak for years on WEBTOON, so I'm very proud that it's getting traditionally published now. It's a sweet, fluffy queer story about schoolboy crushes slowly turning into romance. My only critique is that there could be either smoother transitions or chapter breaks to better disguise that this was originally written for a serialized weekly comic. I've technically already read what comes next, but I'm still looking forward to the next volume!

Thanks to NetGalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was so cute! At first it did sort of feel like I was thrown in part way through, and the characters didn't really have what I consider a proper introduction. That being said, I loved the characters and the story!

I thought that the art was very cute and I absolutely loved the character designs! Having distinct character designs is super important to me in graphic novels, and this perfected that!

The story itself was super cute, it did feel like the ending wasn't super well rounded, but knowing that this is only the first volume and there is more on Webtoons, it's not much of an issue!

I think my favorite thing is that the characters queerness was already established and normalized! None of the issues revolved around being queer, which we need a lot more of in queer books!

All in all, a very cute little high school romance! I will absolutely be reading the rest of this on Webtoons while I wait for more volumes to come out!

This graphic novel is adorable! Wow! Both Cog and Marcus are so cute. I love a book featuring a non-binary character where their gender isn't a common topic of conversation. They are normal - like everyone else - and everyone isn't talking about their gender every five pages. Cog is just vibing and living their best life. I love the friendship Cog and Marcus have before there was any reference to romance. Their relationship is realistic and endearing.
I am disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Marcus's friends. The couple of moments they had together were genuine. I want to see more of their interactions going forward. It goes without saying - everyone is so supportive throughout the novel. After some of the books I've read recently, it was nice to fall into a happy queer book where the characters and the people around them are all supportive of one another. Speaking of friends, I could go either way on Toma, but I appreciate his inclusion. It was nice to see Cog interacting with friends and living his life outside of the main relationship.
Outside of the characters, the art style is one of my favorites. Every character looked different from the others. From different body types to the different clothes each character wore to express themselves. The design choices made the world feel real and like the characters were people you could meet on the street. The diversity of the characters doesn't feel cheeky or forced, but rather a representation of humanity today. Additionally, I enjoyed the incidental details the author includes around the dialogue. For example, the flowers change color depending on who was speaking or the different reactionary details.
The backgrounds were often plain, and I found them boring after some time. I want to feel more immersed in the world by knowing what was going on around the main characters. However, as this was originally a webcomic, I can't complain. The author does a great job focusing on character design rather than worrying about making every frame full of background details. The other note about the art style were the expressions. The author did not hold back when creating exaggerated expressions, and I love them. They add an element of humor outside of the jokes that I appreciate.
Overall, this was an adorable start to a high school romance series. I've always been a sucker for webcomics, and I love to see them getting the printed treatment. I will definitely be reaching for the next volume when it is released.
As for this volume, Daybreak Volume One will be available in stores near you on July 1, 2025. Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the opportunity to read an early copy. To catch up on this story now, you can read Daybreak on Webtoon.

The art style was so so cute I can't get over it 😭 & just the overall formatting of the graphic novel was simply amazing and made it super easy to follow the story without getting confused or anything, which is an important factor for me when reading graphic novels.

I was hesitant about the comparisons of Heartstopper and Bloom because I loved Bloom. That being said, this exceeded my expectations. The development of the romance felt very fitting for their ages and still very light. I also found the very frank and heartfeltness of how the two characters spoke to each other really refreshing to read. Will definitely be tuned in for more volumes!

This is an incredibly sweet and heartwarming queer romance graphic novel that’s sure to be loved by Heartstopper fans.
The art has some light similarities to Heartstopper but lots of manga inspiration with cute chibi style renditions of the characters to show feelings.
The two folks involved in the romance are Black, one who uses he/him pronouns and the other possibly using he/they pronouns, although this is not made very clear.
The art helps the two, Marcus and Cog, fly off the page and adds even more dimension to their sweet, enthusiastic and kind natures.
It’s a beautiful thing to have a positive and heartwarming queer romance like this one available!
Sure to be a popular book with teens and young people.

This is such a cute start to a romance between these two boys. I loved the journey of coming together through food. Marcus is so precious and adorable and Cog was a little clueless at first. I would recommend if you enjoy Heartstopper and it can be read on Webtoon now.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! They’re so cute!! My head may explode from the overwhelming amount of cute lovey dovey-ness that I just ingested into my bloodstream. This was absolutely perfect and so Heartstopper core that I may not survive!!!!

These boys are utterly adorable and I want to wrap them up, put them in pocket and savor every moment of this experience getting to know them. Until reading Volume 1, I hadn’t heard of Daybreak, but now it’s all I can think about. I don’t know if I can wait until Volume 2 comes out to see where their story goes. 😱🤯

“So will you be writing me notes too? Because I’d like that a lot.”

Daybreak introduces Cog, Marcus and their friends during their senior year of high school. Cog and Marcus slowly become closer friends as they both realize in their own time that they have a crush on each other-and aren’t sure what to do about it.
.
This sweet and cozy LGBTQ+ rom-com slice of life comic was created by Moosopp on Webtoon! It’s now being released as a Webtoon Unscrolled graphic novel. I’ve never read this comic before. In fact, I had never heard of it but had to get my hands on it as soon as I saw it was releasing! this first novel covers episodes 1-52 of the digital comic and it was so sweet! It had funny moments of realizations on Cog’s end. Marcus’ reactions to Cog info-dumping were so adorable. I love seeing when the MC’s stare at their partner lovingly like that. Absolutely adorable. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to WEBTOON to read the rest.

Perfect for fans of cozy LGBTQ+ romance like Heartstopper and Bloom, this slice-of-life rom-com by debut creator Moosopp is the sunshiny story of Marcus and Cog falling for each other.

A swoon worthy telling of 2 boys first crush. It's everything you could want Ina sweet little romance. They respect each other, they start as friends just hanging out, their friends are supportive, and you can't help but root for them to find their happy ever after together.
A real delight to read.

4.5/5 stars

I absolutely loved this. I thought this was super cute and so enjoyable. I need more Marcus and Cog NEOWWWWWWWW. I took off .5 because it ends really abruptly, but i think thats the norm for graphic novels. Plus the rest can be found on webtoon, but I'm going to wait until the next part. This was so cute omg. I legit was giggling and kicking my feet so bad. The art in this made me so happy to see black characters expressed this way and in this style, and it was just so good!

⚝ Rating ⚝: 4✩ / 5✩’s

⚝ Review ⚝: Well, this was certainly adorable and fun. All the characters are as loveable as can get, every single one of them. When looking further into Daybreak, I found out that it is a sort of spin-off of another comic by Moosopp, Sunshine Boy. However, I don't feel having not read Sunshine Boy took away anything from the story. Daybreak is a slice-of-life graphic novel that follows the developing crush between Cog and Marcus and the fact that every person around them knows...except for them. Despite having come from different social circles, Marcus and Cog are constantly running into each other, accidentally and well, not so accidentally. All the interactions are adorably awkward as to expect from two young high schoolers who are navigating unexpected emotions.

My one issue lies in the 'ending'. Now, I do know that this continues on Wattpad and that this ARC is in preparation for Daybreak being released for physical printing and sale, but I did not know that before I finished reading. The ending was...awkward? Not in the adorable awkward way that the the rest of the story was, it was just an extremely weird place to end. Not a scene end, not a cliffhanger, it's almost like a page or two is missing.

⚝ Illustrations⚝: I absolutely loved the art style used by Moosopp. It was exactly what I expected from the cover (as sometimes the art inside does not match the style of the cover). The illustrations are rich, vibrant, and expressive.

⚝ Representation ⚝:
Marcus - Transmasc, bisexual, dyslexia, half-Mongolian half-Sudanese, Buddhist(?)
Cog - Non-binary (He/They), Afro Dominican
Toma - half-Korean half-Japanese, Bisexual and aromantic
Duy - Vietnamese, ADHD
Winnie - Chinese
Percy - Transmasc, Inuit
Heidi - Sierra Leonean, Muslim, vitiligo
My monthly reading breakdown for April will be posted to TikTok, IG, and Threads the first week of May.

This was SO ADORABLE. I enjoyed all the characters and how the attraction between the two main characters played out. I instantly wanted to be on to the next volume!

Daybreak Volume One is a really cute beginning to a high school love story between one grumpy non binary teen and a sunshine trans boy who slowly grow closer as Sunshine boy wants to cook meals for grumpy teen every now and then...
It was sweet, fluffy, slice-of-life low angst, perfect prescription for a grumpy day.
