Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book had so many twists and turns in it! I totally thought I had it figured out and I was so wrong. Liz Alterman did an amazing job with this book and had multiple red herrings in this book that really kept me guessing. I really enjoyed the way this story was told and my jaw was on the floor in the end. This was the perfect thriller and was amazing! I can’t wait for more books like this one!

Liz Alterman delivers a gripping and twist-filled domestic thriller in You Shouldn’t Have Done That, a story that masterfully unravels the secrets between two families whose lives become dangerously entangled. From the very first chapter, the tension simmers, fueled by lies, betrayals, and the subtle unraveling of relationships built on shaky foundations.
The suspense is paced exceptionally well, with each revelation adding a new layer of intrigue. Alterman excels at crafting characters that feel real—flawed, unpredictable, and often hiding more than they reveal. The narrative is packed with detail, heightening the sense of unease and pulling readers deeper into the tangled web of deceit.
What stands out most is the constant escalation—the twists don’t just shock; they build upon one another, making the story more addictive as it progresses. Alterman’s sharp writing and tight plotting make it nearly impossible to put down.
You Shouldn’t Have Done That is a compulsive read, perfect for fans of dark domestic dramas where no one is quite as innocent—or guilty—as they seem.

All the characters are terrible and therefore that made it hard to get absorbed in the book. The story dragged for me and I didn’t really like the ending.
Although this book wasn’t for me, I do really like this author and will read more of her work.

The perfect winter mystery book for readers who enjoy a chilly thriller where no one can be trusted and everyone is suspect.
When Cal Whitaker goes missing after a ski day with his childhood best friend Brad Chapman, years of friendship begin to show their cracks as both families hunt for answers. Brad seems to be leaving out crucial information to the investigation, angering the Whitakers, and Cal's younger sister Emerson takes to her online platform to demand the truth from Brad. But this new spotlight does more harm than good, and the growing divide between mothers Jane Whitaker and Ivy Chapman becomes increasingly hostile. How far is each family willing to go to protect their sons, and will Cal be found alive despite the harsh Wyoming winter?
I loved that this book switched between many different points of view, as everything is clearly not as it seems on the outside. The dynamic between Jane and Ivy is what really hooked me in this book, as well as the slow reveal of the other aspects of Cal's life that may have something to do with his disappearance. The beginning of this book was a bit slow for me and I had a hard time getting into it, but after the pace started to pick up I was hooked. I was also completely surprised by Ivy's actions at the end of the book but thought it was a great twist.

This is a gripping psychological thriller that explores the toxic underbelly of a seemingly perfect friendship. When Cal goes missing during a ski trip with his best friend Brad, the two mothers, Jane and Ivy, who have been inseparable for twenty years, find their bond severely tested. As suspicions mount and hidden secrets surface, their loyalty is shattered, leading to a relentless pursuit of the truth and a shocking examination of how far mothers will go to protect their own. This is a twisty, fast-paced read with well-developed, morally ambiguous characters that will keep you guessing until the very end.

You should have done that by Liz Alterman, is a suspenseful thriller of a book.
Jane and Ivy have been best friends for 20 years, since their sons Cal and Brad attended the same preschool. But when their now adult sons go on a ski trip to Wyoming, and only one comes back, their friendship is tested.
Cal has disappeared and Brad hasn't reported him missing...fearing for his safety his family begins to think that Brad knows more than he is letting on.
You shouldn't have done that is the first book I have read from Liz Alterman and it won't be my last.
Thank you Liz for partnering with NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The beginning of this one had me hoping it'd pick up, because i really enjoyed her last novel. And then...it just took off.
Just wait til you hit part 2 whoaaaa buddy. It did not go where I thought it was going. But I ended up loving every minute.
I couldn't wait til we found out all the truths and had exposed everyone for all their bad decisions.
The ending had me wondering about a few loose ends but all in all, this was a good one!

Jane and Ivy have been friends forever, both as neighbours and because their sons Brad and Cal have grown up together from their kindergarten days. In fact, Cal even moved out to Wyoming to room with Brad for a time, while figuring out what he wants to do next.
So why, when the two boys went skiing together, would Brad return without his friend and then fail to report him missing to the police? As alarm begins to grow over Cal's disappearance, hostilities develop between the two families and his sister Emerson turns up the temperature with her online campaign, which points the finger at Brad and riles up sentiment against him.
This is a forensic examination of human interactions - in terms of marriage, friendship and sibling relationships. A cleverly plotted and slick thriller, the book insightfully observes the actions of a set of well crafted characters. Alterman has done a really good job here, taking her authorial skills up several notches. This one is not to be missed.

An ordinary thriller that gave an enjoyable read. The twists are there, but not that original.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I quite enjoyed my reading experience with is one. It was thrilling and I loved the ride. Would recommend it!!

Whoa—this was dark, layered, and deeply unsettling in the best way. I read this frantically, needing to know who was lying, who was protecting who, and what really happened on that mountain. This one had my “I’ve figured it out” brain bouncing back and forth more than a Wimbledon match!
Longtime best friends Jane and Ivy have raised their sons like brothers, but everything shatters when only one boy comes home from a ski trip.
As grief and suspicion take over, the two mothers find themselves on opposite sides—each convinced the other is hiding something.
With shifting perspectives and layered backstories, the truth becomes harder to find, and the stakes keep rising.
This is a chilling, character-driven thriller about loyalty, loss, and the devastating cracks that can form beneath even the closest relationships.
Big thanks to NetGalley, Liz Alterman, and Inkubator Books for the opportunity to read this five star book in exchange for a review.

A good read
Had me hooked from the first page to the last
Told from different POV’s
Lots of twists and turns
Thanks Netgalley

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC!
This was a fun, twisty ride for most of the book. There are multiple POV's who each hold their own secrets and loyalty to their family. There were a few parts that moved fairly slow, but overall the many twists made up for it.
⭐⭐⭐.5, rounded to 4

Goodness me, this was such a good book. Highly entertaining. Would definitely recommend to others, that's for sure!

This one was just okay for me…
I liked the overall plot, guy goes missing and his family is desperate to find him and they start pointing blame at whoever is closest which happens to be his roommate.
But the characters in this book are all clueless and self absorbed and drove me nuts most of the time. It was really hard to connect with any of them or feel sympathy for any of them which made me struggle with this one as I was going.
I also thought the end fell a little flat - there wasn’t a big reveal or a tidy conclusion for everyone.
Just wasn’t for me.

Fantastic best friends always make the best enemies in my opinion. Secrets suspenseful just brilliant loved it

This book is insane. So much going on at one time and you just have to ride the ride. The different aspects of the story have you questioning everyone while you read. Then just once you think the book will end a new set of twists pop up and you're back at wondering what will happen next. If you're looking for a great thriller and suspense book this one is definitely for you.

This fast paced thriller explores family feuds, gambling, failing friendships and marriages.
Cal and Brad appear to only be friends because their mums Ivy and Jane are. on the surface, everyone appears perfect, however as the story goes on, like an onion it slowly reveals the cracks in each and every character. Each character in this book has a dis likeable quality at the forefront of their personality, and I couldn’t help but hate Cal despite the fact he was missing. This adds to the drama of the book and shows that we are all messy and flawed. I loved the alternating POV’s, This is everything I look for in a psychological thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

This was my first book by this author but will certainly look out for her in future. Lots of twists and turns with interesting characters. It’s 5 stars from me.

Life is about choices. All of which have consequences. This was one of the books that makes you want to shake the characters and ask them what the hell is wrong with them. It was easy to see how complacency can take an ugly turn. The interweaving of the characters lives was done well and the ending was unexpected and left you wanted a bit more....so that karma could do it's thing....but alas....such as life....didn't happen.
