Caton’s Protection AUDIO by Diana Palmer is a romance, if somewhat difficult. Janine Curtis is a mystery author, in the middle of writing a book. She is in Cancun with her twelve-year-old brother while their parents are on an archeological dig further into Mexico. He is bored. She is busy. It turns out their neighbor has a daughter about the same age, so that solves the boredom problem. Of course, twelve-year-olds don’t always think so that is a new problem. Carrie, the daughter, has a father that makes Janine’s knees weak, but he is a grump. As she gets to know him, he is less of a grump but early on makes it clear that he tried marriage and it didn’t work. They deal with a plethora of problems including Carrie’s mother hiring people to kidnap her, some pot hunters coming after Janine’s parents’ finds, and a tropical storm. They weather it all and find one another in the process (no spoiler, this is a romance).

Canton is a good character, stoic and self contained. He built an empire once and lost it and is determined to rebuild. His marriage didn’t last because she married his money, not him, and he is determined to never repeat that mistake. Janine is younger than Caton, but very successful, a fact she hides from him as she knows his dislike for successful women. The two kids together are creative, talented, and fun. It turns out to be mostly a fun two months. The plot was not terrible for a romance. Kidnappings are always good and there was a twist. The pace was good. Diana Palmer is a solid author. Worth the read or listen.

The narrator was Todd McLaren who was simply not right for this book. I have listened to him before and like him. He wasn’t able to differentiate between characters smoothly and it hurt the experience.

I was invited to listen to Catnon’s Protection by Harlequin Audio. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #HarlequinAudio #ToddMcLaren #DianaPalmer. #CantonsProtction

I've read Diane Palmer before and thought I'd give her another shot. I surmise that
she just isn't the author for me. The book is short, but even so, it did not harbor any great story. 3 stars

Many thanks to Net Galley and Harlequin Audio for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a Drama filled Romance. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I found the narrator to be ok. I really got pulled into this book, and I do not want to put this book down. I found the kids to be cute and funny. I loved that there is a writer in this book. The romance is cheesey at times, but I was living for the drama and cute kids moments in this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Just couldn't put this down. The kids were doing everything to make the dad and sister watching them stressed at every turn. The adventure and mystery kept me engaged along with the sizzling attraction between the two main characters.

This narrator was not good with distinguishing between male/female voices nor adults vs. children. To be honest, didn't get very far in the audiobook before I just couldn't tell if the voices were adults or children. I got lost in the story very fast. a DNF for me.

Why do I keep doing this to myself? 😂

I was so happy with this one until the end. There's no freaking way he said one month abruptly and without explanation, then went two months AND was seen with another woman, and she didn't say a single word!
