My daughter (age 8) loved trying multiple recipes from the cookbook. We felt that the recipes were straightforward and easy to understand from a kid who is new to cooking. The additional hints and information also helped to explain more about what things meant and why we do certain techniques eith cooking. The tortilla pizza and street tacos were her favorite while we also enjoyed the potato wedge nachos. The pictures looked appealing and the recipes had a nice assortment to choose from.

Recipes are in chapters on breakfast, lunch and snacks, "Dip, Drizzle, and Dunk," dinner, sides, and sweets. I enjoyed that the book was written for kids, that it was very colorful, and that it started with a section that covered some basic how-to's and cooking terms.
Recipes had symbols for being gluten free or able to be modified to such, and for when they needed heat or knives. The book had nice color photos of each dish.
I wish there were more recipes - with just 60 total, some of the chapters were pretty short. There was a good variety of flavors and most things seemed kid friendly.
Dinner was the longest chapter, and I don't think I would recommend this book for vegetarians, since most of those recipes (and many in other chapters, too) featured meat.
Overall, a nice book for kids but I don't know that this one is all encompassing or has something truly unique to it.

Thank you, net galley, Danielle Kartes and Tommy Nelson for sending me this book to review!

I really enjoyed this cookbook!!

I recently made a recipe from it for my nieces, and it was a hit. The pages is clean and easy to follow, with soft, simple colours that make it easy to understand and read without it being overwhelming. I especially love that every recipe has a clear picture of the finished dish, it’s such a helpful reference for kids (and grown-ups, too!). The cute little cartoons are a lovely touch, each sharing a tip about an ingredient used in the recipe. Overall, it’s a great book for children to explore cooking in a fun and approachable way.

My kids and I loved this cookbook. It is full of fun and easy recipes that the kids will actually eat and the fact that they are simple enough that they can make these with little help made it such a fun experience for them. The graphics are eye catching that they pull your attention in right away, the instructions are easy to follow, and it was an overall enjoyable experience for the whole family.

'The Best Kids Cookbook' is an accessible guide to bring kids into the kitchen. Equal parts fun and educational, it offers 60 straightforward recipes across six sections n- from make-ahead breakfasts to sweet treats. Importantly, Kartes also teaches essential kitchen skills: cleanliness, safety, measuring, tool use, and even how to adapt recipes.

Bright and inviting pictures with clear instructions. A great book to encourage kids to get involved in the kitchen.

The Best Kids Cookbook by Danielle Kartes is an absolute gem! I had the joy of reading and baking through this book with my 7-year-old granddaughter, and we had such a wonderful time together. From the moment we opened it, we were both hooked—her by the bright, fun pictures and easy-to-follow steps, and me by the delicious recipes and heartwarming moments we got to share.

We loved picking out which recipes to try (it was hard to choose—everything looked so good!), and the directions were perfectly kid-friendly without ever feeling overly simplified. This book strikes the perfect balance of being approachable for kids while still delivering real, tasty results that the whole family can enjoy.

The layout is engaging, the photography is beautiful, and the recipes are designed to empower little chefs and build confidence in the kitchen. Plus, the shared laughter, a little flour in the hair, and a warm batch of something delicious out of the oven? Absolutely priceless.

Highly recommend this cookbook for parents, grandparents, and anyone looking to create lasting memories in the kitchen with the young cooks they love!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you for my review copy! I really enjoyed the colored pages, as well as the clear instructions. The recipes are simple enough, I believe, for the kids to make, especially for first-timers. I am not the best cook myself, so I will be using the cookbook to find some simple, but delicious, recipes.

The Best Kids Cookbook features enjoyable and straightforward recipes that children can prepare independently, depending on their age. The instructions are clear and easy to follow; my 11 and 10-year-old successfully made overnight oats without needing any help. We are eager to try more recipes from this book.

As a mother to two young children who equally enjoy cooking and baking as much as I do, I love when NetGalley has family and kid-friendly cookbooks. They're my favorite! I enjoy spending time in the kitchen with my kids and making new, fun recipes that we all can enjoy. This cookbook offers just that! The Best Kids Cookbook is a great cookbook for all ages with fun recipes that anyone would love. My kids are 4 and 5, and the recipes that we tried were easy enough for them to do "on their own" (with some assistance, of course). There's a little bit of everything, from breakfast to lunch ideas to snacks and even recipes that picky eaters would enjoy (like my son)! The pictures are beautiful and vivid, very inviting, and the directions are very clear. I'm looking forward to grabbing a copy in August and making it a staple in our kitchen!
Thank you NetGalley, Tommy Nelson, and Danielle Kartes for this wonderful kids cookbook!

The author gives good prep advice: ask an adult to help you use the oven, stove or any machines or utensils you do not know how to use!
Prep the ingredients you are going to use by chopping, slicing or liquefying them.
You will learn how to grease a pan, mjuice citrus fruit, how to slice vegetables and garlic cloves, and how to test if something is done.
Remember to be safe by washing your hands with soap and water, wearing short sleeves, using hand mitts and always ask for help if you are unsure about something!
You are given specific directions about measurements, how to use the appliances, and how to test for doneness.
Enjoy making chocolate chip waffles, English muffin breakfast sammies, blueberry overnight oatmeal and breakfast piggies in a blanket.
For lunch enjoy The big turkey melt, cheese and pizza pockets, spicy watermelon fries and tangy tomato turkey burgers.
You will also learn to make desserts such as layered chocolate cake with cream cheese fluff, pumpkin muffins and raspberry parfait.
The age range is probably from 10 years and up due to the use of the tools and complexity of the recipes.

With all the fast food, frozen dinners, and convenience items, many people have forgotten how to cook. But with the price of food, parents need to teach their children the basics of cooking. Children’s tastes have changed over the years, and kids like different dishes than their parents or grandparents. Luckily, Danielle Kartes has released an excellent children’s book, The Best Kid’s Cookbook: 60 Fun and Simple Recipes to Get Kids Cooking, that takes into account the changing palates of children, as well as basics that kids need to cook dishes on their own.

This cookbook is colorful, and includes dozens of cute illustrations. It also includes easy recipes that are written in the traditional manner so that kids can learn to follow a recipe. The ingredients are listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions, as well as notes from the author to help the junior cooks complete the recipes successfully. The recipes are also accompanied by beautiful, professional photographs of each dish.

Another excellent aspect of this cookbook is instructions for measuring and basics, the importance of having an adult present, cleaning up, and safety guidelines.

All told, this is an excellent cookbook to present to children; it includes dishes that kids (and many adults) will want to eat, and will make learning to cook fun.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This review will be outside my normal scope because I have never reviewed a cookbook before! I went through every single recipe with my picky eight-year-old son, and he picked THIRTY THREE that looked so delicious, he wanted to make them. We have made two so far, and they were delicious! Danielle Kartes did a fantastic job of making the dishes exciting and appealing to a kid's palate, while still being flavorful and nutritious!

The directions are clear, and the photos are beautiful. It is my experience that including kids in the cooking process greatly increases their willingness to eat things, so I am particularly grateful for this book!

Author Danielle Kartes presents over 60 delicious recipes designed to teach kids basic kitchen skills while having fun creating nutrious meals, snacks and desserts. The book itself uses bold colors mixed with useful icons to bring attention to key concepts with the recipes. Both illustrations and tantalizing photos are found throughout the cookbook giving children an idea of what the finished product should look like as well as plating suggestions. From Breakfast Burritos to a Kids Charcuterie Board to Spicy Watermelon Fries, these recipes will give children pleasure both as they make them and as they eat them.

Although the recipes are geared towards children, parents should consider supervising as some recipes require using knives or heat which may hurt inexperienced cooks. Overall though, this book will delight kids and make mealtimes more engaging for them.

I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This one had so much potential!! The pictures are stunning and the bright colors definitely captivate not only the parent but children, as well. The biggest issues I have are that these are by far the”simple” recipes, my 7-year-old would maybe eat one or two of them at best and he definitely would not be able to assist me in making it in the ways that this book thinks they could. 😂 I was just hoping for a bit more of a simple approach with completely kid-friendly recipes. The organization and layout behind it all is really good though.
